Came here late one night and saw roughly 2 other customers so I was expecting top of the range service. Deeply disappointed. We waited around 15 minutes just our waitress to come to our table to ask for drinks. Food was mediocre. After our waitress delivered our food she didn’t come back to check on our table once. The entire table had to get up to the soda machine and refill our own drinks. It’s almost as if this place just knows their reputation is trash and doesn’t care cause it’s the last resort if you’re hungry at 2am.

Vernon Diner is like my breakfast frenemy. I go often because it’s so convenient and has so many options. I love breakfast and my fiancé prefers lunch. Eggscellent! They have your lunch and my breakfast at the same time, genius. Except… I am equally often frustrated by what I call the price to tastiness ratio. I understand they are open 24 hours and that adds significant overhead. I accept this but my days of eating at 2 am ended with my twenties so I do not care so much that they are open in the middle of the night. I do care when I get charged nearly $ 10 for a pastrami breakfast sandwich because I technically MODIFIED the menu. So, TECHNICALLY a pastrami egg and cheese does not exist at the Vernon Diner until I order it and get way overcharged. They also don’t have spicy mustard which is a cardinal pastrami sin… I just made that up, much like I invented the pastrami egg and cheese. So for $ 8+ we would think that the level of deliciousness would be out of this world. We would be wrong. Let’s discuss this rolls royce of breakfast sandwich. They put a quarter pound of pastrami on that bread; the balance was all wrong. There was so much pastrami that I had to pick half of it off. So, there’s your overhead problem… I don’t want a quarter pound of pastrami… a few slices will do… charge one dollar. Great, done. Dear Vernon Diner, get some spicy mustard and never think it’s ok to charge over $ 8 for a breakfast sandwich. The end. So I don’t order that anymore. It’s a damn big deal to me. Don’t you judge me. Here’s the good stuff: I like their cannoli cake. Their banana cream pie is BOMB. It is so yummy. They do this brilliant thing: they add a thin layer of white cake to their banana cream pie. It makes the fat kid in my heart do a little tango. The whole bananas in the cream pie make my little fat kid cry a little but the massive bananas are easy to mine out being that they are massive, whole bananas. When I order a piece of pie and a coffee, with tip… $ 10. That’s a lot; best frenemy ever. The dessert cases really are beautiful. I could watch them spin around all day. Their omelets are decent, their potatoes are a waste of my time… mushy and unseasoned, not even ketchup or salt can save them. One of my favorite people at Vernon Diner is a waitress with salt and pepper hair. She is super bossy and outgoing and good at her job. I don’t have to ask for anything, she just notices and brings it. I love unique people and she makes me laugh because she’s smart and her mannerism always makes me feel like I am in trouble. I watched her make a baby cry the other day and I laughed about it all day. I’m laughing about it right now. I love her.

Love this place! Its 24⁄7 and they have really great food! The staff is really friendly and despite how busy they get, you can usually get a seat within 15 min which is really nice. I have only tried their breakfast/lunch menus but their french toast is pretttttyyyt amazing!!!

Came here on Sunday… Absolutely awful… After 45 minutes waiting for our food and seeing other people who sat AFTER we had been sitting and Getting served BEFORE us, my boyfriend complained to the manager. The manager told us our food would be right out, a waffle and omelet… Does NOT take 45 minutes to cook either of these… Even on the busiest days ANYWHERE! My boyfriends waffle and bacon were both cold, as was mine. My omelet was mediocre. I’ve had much better for much better prices and a far less of a wait… Next time I’ll wait 45 minutes to be seated at reins deli right across the Parking lot rather than waste my time and money here ever again. Not to mention the waitress was awful… Didn’t check on us or let us know what the deal was With our food once… And I do waitress nights after my day job… I always keep my customers updated… No matter the situation… My number priority is that they do not leave upset!!! Will not be going back to this dive of a place… Very disappointed. Wish I could leave negative stars…

I have fond memories of this place because I remember coming here on a date in college at 2AM in the morning when nothing else was open. They really are a 24 hour diner. I thought it was pretty good then. I came back when I drove past I-84 for nostalgia sake. I have to say while the service is very good and they are indeed open 24 hours a day, the food was pretty terrible. Especially bad were my hash browns, which were soggy and had this very strange taste. The texture was also very odd. The rest of the food wasn’t good either. I would say unless it is between the hours of 1am and 5am and other much finer eating establishments are not open(such as McDonalds, Taco Bell), or you won’t physically starve to death until those places open, then don’t eat at this place.

I had high hopes for this place after my girlfriend talked up how great their breakfast menu was. Sadly this was not the case. We ordered the Italian omelette with a side of bacon, and I the Belgian waffle with a side of bacon. It took nearly 45 minutes to get our food. Yes I realize it was early Sunday afternoon and they were busy, but it’s quite irritating watching several groups of people sit down after you around you and receive their meals before you do. After I expressed my dislike for having to wait to the manager, he responded with apologizing and explaining to me that the other couple I used as an example had a Cobb salad and something else so their meals came out first. Are you serious guy? THAT’S NOTHOWTHISWORKS. You don’t make bullshit excuses. I’ve worked in a kitchen before, in a place with that volume the batter is already made. The flat top is already hot and the contents are all cut and ready to go. There is 0 excuse. Next, watch out if you order a side of bacon. Mine was $ 1.50, while my girlfriends was $ 3.75. It’s not the two dollars that upsets me, it’s the ridiculous pricing structure that raises the price for no reason for the same item. Then finally was the offer of a piece of cake on the house for our wait. Rather than not even comp, but discount my waffle which when asked I told him was cold, I get offered a piece of cake. This is what they do to try and minimize loss of profit. The funny thing here too is that when he came back after I spoke with him the first time, I was told«the waffle is just coming out of the press right now.» He didn’t finish his sentence before the joke of a waitress showed up with the food. That’s some serious thermal loss on the waffle in the 25 foot walk from the kitchen! I should of checked Unilocal first before going in. Would of saved myself $ 26 for cold mediocre food.

We went here for lunch, I got a tuna wrap and my husband a chicken wrap. Nothing on there was fresh and it all tasted like refrigerator. Mozzarella sticks weren’t the best quality, two different brands on my plate. One good the other mediocre. We left in such a bad mood with total regret. We won’t be back.

We ate breakfast here. My husband requested French fries instead of the home fries that are cooked with bacon grease. My husband does not eat any pork products for religious purposes. The manager refused to substitute the home fries. Vernon diner concern for the customer is extremely poor.

We have been loyal customers of Vernon Diner for years. My 90-year-old mother-in-law looks forward to her matzoh ball soup every week. We order a bowl of soup to go and put it into smaller bowls with one matzoh ball in each. This week my husband was told a to go order of a bowl would only consist of one matzoh ball, a cup size. This is very unfair. We are disappointed that they would charge more for a to go order than if we sat at counter. When we tried to question the discrepancy the man did not want to rectify the situation. To update… Went back today and talked to owner. she agreed the manager was ridiculous and gave us the two matzoh balls.

What a find during our regular trips between Massachusetts and New Jersey. Food is good — very good, and the portions are enormous. Service was quick and friendly and the place was very comfortable. This will definitely be our go to when we travel now.

Very American Diner with decent food. American sized portions. It was my cheat day and I ordered waffle fries. $ 4.25 for a gigantic portion too big for me to finish,(even on cheat day eat ’til you pike rules!) big eaters will be quite happy. A table next to us got a Sunday that would have fed a family of five. American style service lost them a star… A little sassy,(great personality, talkative, smiling) but also a little sloppy,(handed my mate a flat soda, gave him no warning and when he sipped and made a face that’s when she told us the CO2 wasn’t working) American food. Not great, not bad, kind of MEH, but if your goal is to scratch the diner junk food itch, they fill this nitch. I’d stick with fried things, milkshakes, and burgers. American Prices lost a star $ 9.25 for disco fries? For realz??? Whaaaaaaat? I mean, really? Weird. Just weird.

We love Vernon Diner. Food is all delicious, with reasonable prices and generous portion sizes. However, they have stopped accepting takeout orders via phone. They will take your order but won’t begin preparing it until you arrive. This is the policy they state if you call to place an order. We will happily return once this policy is changed.

I’d like to give 3 stars but I ordered a turkey burger and received a hamburger. Not the end of the world– something that could easily be misheard and mistakes happen. But yeah, not too sure where on the bird that cut of meat came from but it sure was darker than what I’ve grown accustomed to. I’m not expecting a life changing meal from a diner but there’s nothing that would draw me back here. Points for cleanliness and aesthetics though.

The best diner in CT! They have a delicious breakfast burrito. Sandwiches sometimes do not come with fries so be sure to order them as a side. And of course all the salads are worth a try!

I think the Vernon Diner is pretty solid all away around, because I’m not in that area often when I do go, it is for the Matzoh Ball soup and Greek desserts. Teddy, the owner, once had a restaurant in the Garment District in Manhattan; hence, the reason he knocks the Matzoh Balls and soup outta the park. His Greek desserts are very good occasionally he has Reveni which is one of my favorites and of course the ever present standbys: Baklava, rice pudding and Galakoboureko. Whether its breakfast, lunch or dinner you are sure to find something that pleases; the service is always very good.

I used to go to the Vernon Diner all the time and I loved it! It had been about 2+ years and my Dad and I decided it was time to go back. I wish we hadn’t because I would rather remember it as it was not as it is. They have completely changed their menu and it had way too many items. We ordered 2 paninis to share and they were both wrong in so many ways. One was the roast beef panini. They forgot the bbq sauce and bacon and it was soggy. The chicken panini was missing the honey mustard, was also soggy and i the chicken was still pink. I sent the roast beef back to be corrected and she took the whole plate with the rest of the food. I told the waitress(who barely spoke to us) I was still eating the other food, she offered to bring it back but I was a little skeptical so I declined. Anyway, she finally brought back the new roast beef panini, still not crispy and still missing bbq sauce and now with the wrong side and it was cold! I am beyond frustrated at this point and just want to leave. My dad has already finished what was edible of his food and i have barely had a bite. Our waitress asked us at least 5 times how everything was and each time I politely expressed my displeasure and all she did was say sorry. She never offered to correct anything and clearly she noticed all the uneaten food. She finally brought the check and it came to about $ 30 for 2 coffees and 2 miserable paninis. We still left her a 15% tip, maybe because we felt bad for her? So I then went up front to pay the bill asked to speak to a manager to explain what happened. The gal at the register said she could help so I explained. They eventually took one of the paninis off the bill which really is the least the could do. Needless to say, I regret that I may no longer visit the Vernon Diner after being a regular appreciative customer for years.

Vernon Diner is a great 24 hour place with a ton of choice! We stopped through here on Christmas Eve, and were pleasantly surprised to find them open. The food is good, but especially the French onion soup and scollops. Hands down, this was the best French onion soup I’ve ever had. The scallops were surprisingly good; flavored well with a nice pan sear on them. Portions are also hearty, so prepare to take home left overs!

We visited here twice during the overnight we spent at the adjacent motel. FYI said motel was scary and gross. I felt like the entire time we were there it was the 1st30 minutes of a horror movie. Anyway Vernon Diner was the best part of our stay and a refuge to say the least. After check-in we enjoyed coffee and dessert, the strawberry cheesecake was creamy, not too rich, and very satisfying after 8+ hours on the road. Having lived through the night we came back the next morning for breakfast. Very friendly service, big portions, and good food. I also love that they have little bar/drink menu. Diners with bars are the best!

If you’re on your way to Boston going through Connecticut, this is a great little diner stop just off of I-84. Super friendly service(the lady server called us «Hon» and asked my son, «And what would you like, Honey?»). I love diners in Queens, but they can be expensive. Not so here because the prices are really good. Imagine you were back in the 80’s. All the diner favorite burgers, sandwiches & breakfast served all day are in their voluminous menu. Add in the nightly dinner specials and you probably won’t eat the same thing twice. For dinner, we ordered the mixed grill(chicken, sirloin steak & shrimp), stuffed mushrooms & grilled shrimp and the chicken marsala. They were all very good and dinner specials come with your choice of soup or salad and a big ol’ bread basket. Definitely be back here on the next roadtrip!
