Aside from my favorite pizza joint in Bloomfield, Famous Rays is the best… ok, the staff leaves something to be desired, at times they have really bad attitudes. This isn’t the smartest thing what with all the competition there is out there… they should do everything but feed you when you walk in there. This aside, the pizza is soooo good the crust to sauce to cheese ratio is spot on. The flavor of the sauce is exceptional and they still use real cheese which is a rarity these days. The only thing that would make this pie better is if they put a little extra oregano on top and a sprinkle of parmesan too, then it would be perfect. The price is a bit high for a large plain pie but one person could literally get four meals out of one pizza — when you do the math its cheap! Don’t get me started on the parking lot tho… total nightmare.

I’m gonna agree with Andrew Ps comments below. I love the pizza here. The chicken bacon ranch is the best I’ve had. They aren’t stingy with their servings. They use like 2 pounds of mozzarella per pie. The sausage and pepperoni rolls are also pretty good. Eating more than 1 slice requires a nap shortly after. The parking is definitely a problem. Going north/west on the Guinea gulch(Bloomfield ave for you non sopranos watchers), avoid the temptation to make the right onto 23/pompton ave. I usually just go straight and make a couple of rights through the neighborhood behind which puts you right into the chase side or the parking lot.

My first time back since over a year ago. Enjoyed a thin slice Sicilian with fresh tomatoes and basil. Not the greatest but not the worst. Still decent and you can sit outside

The most unfriendly staff I have ever come across my God. The guy behind the counter refused to give me a box to take my extra pizza to go! Lol crazy what a shame oh and don’t ever ask for water you will get the worst attitude! 16 $ for a couple slices of pizza you would think you could get a glass of water and a to go box right? Damn

10 years ago this pizza was the best thing going. Now it’s just bleh., it’s fallen off. I was in north jersey and thought I’d try. Probably won’t come again.

This used to be my favorite place. I now find it overpriced for ok pizza. My favorite was the plain slice. Was very crunchy with plenty of cheese and sauce. Now soft crust and skimpy on the cheese and sauce. Too bad I used to really like it.

They have the best pizza hands down! Maybe a lil expensive which is why they are getting four stars from me but at the end of the day the pizza is worth it!

Hands down best slice around. Buffalo chicken slice is absolutely amazing as well. I definitely recommend to anyone who loves pizza.

I went to this place in the 80’s when I was in high school in Montclair. It’s not like it used to be. Still beats any pizza south of the Mason Dixon line

There are so many great places in Jersey to get pizza and they are all unique. It depends on what you want. If you want a thin and crispy crust, don’t come here. There are others that make it that way. If you are in the mood for a huge slice of pizza with tons of sauce and cheese dripping oil, then come here. I’ve been coming to Ray’s since it opened back in the 80’s. Lots of memories. The same guys are still behind the counter. I’ve heard a complaint that, «they aren’t Italian.» Ummm… last I checked that wasn’t a requirement for making pizza. LOL!

I really don’t understand all of the bad reviews of this place. I think people expect this place to be some extravagant experience, but this is a pizza parlor… nothing more. I will start by saying that I absolutely love the pizza, it always tastes fresh because they have consistent business, nothing really sits out for too long. The service is very fast, you will be in and out in 2 minutes or less. Their Buffalo Chicken Ranch is THEBEST I’ve ever had. Almost all other places do it wrong, but Ray’s is absolute perfection! I will never get another at any other place because I always compare it to Ray’s. Yea, the customer service is pretty lacking, but that’s what I like about it. They aren’t rude or anything, but they just ask what you want, you pay, and you leave. When coming in before work, this is exactly what I need. The prices are also great, I rarely go over $ 9 when I get my two slices and a fountain drink. It’s also very relaxing the way they have it setup inside and outside, you feel like you’re on vacation. There’s no chairs or tables inside, just stools and counters lining the windows looking out to the busy streets and when the weather is nice, you can always sit at the benches outside. I come here at least 2 – 3 times a week and I am always satisfied The parking situation: It’s very frustrating when coming from the Bloomfield Ave side because you can’t make a left into Ray’s, and the street after, you ALSO can’t make a left. So you have to make an awkward run through of some medical building just to make a U turn. Also, the parking spaces are very specific. Each spot is tied to a different business written on each sign… just have to read before you park

I eat here almost every weekday on my lunch break. I usually get a buffalo or plain slice. Or both, if I’m feeling really hungry. Just delicious. Some of the best NJ pizza. Friendly and quick service too.

I like the pizza here. It’s our go to pizza place in the area. We’ve tried a variety of pies and liked them all. I’ve ordered the calzone a few times and while I do like it, the edges are never sealed shut(odd for a calzone) and it never has enough pepperoni. My main complaint is that they don’t deliver and their odd location is such that you have to be driving towards Bloomfield to enter their parking lot. That makes it a pain for us.

If this place only received three stars on Unilocal, then Jesus needs to hurry up and come back. I have not tasted better pizza(plain and buffalo chicken)! Seriously, the people are friendly, the cheese is melt in your mouth yummy and gooey. This pizza is made with love!

This is the best pizza in New Jersey and my personal favorite. The ingredients are top notch. And they aren’t stingy with the sauce or the cheese. Ray’s costs a little more than other pizzas, but is worth every penny. A Ray’s slice weighs much more than an average pizza slice. You are stuffed after eating two regular slices. This is the only real Ray’s in Jersey. Don’t be fooled by imitators.

Their pizza is ok, but their customer service skills need a lot of improvement! Went there for pizza with the family, and felt like ordering a salad to start with, when I asked if they served salads, their answer was…“this is a pizzeria, we don’t sell salads!” In a very obnoxious way. I have been to pizzerias where they do serve salads, and they chose to stick to pizzas and no salads… that is fine too, but treat the customer with some respect!

What was once the Staple of Pizza with Cheese gooey and oozing off the plate back in the 90’s has gone by the way of the standard Pizza type place with OK food nothing fantastic… Not Bad just not anything special. Place is spaced out nicely with long place to view all the different types of pizza slices from Sicilian to regular with various toppings etc. They also have some pastas and other items which were not tried. The regular traditional pizza was average with very good crust but absolutely nothing going on with the cheese and the sauce. The Square Sicilian was much better with again exceptional crust but it simply is lacking the burst of flavor found in top quality pizza places especially in the North East. Bottom line here is they are average at best with only fountain drinks to choose from as well. Simply stated not what I remember from the 80s /90/s and certainly nothing I’m going to run back to.

We came here for a quick bite to eat last night. With a name like«The Famous Ray’s Pizza» and it’s central location between two very busy roads I was expecting some amazing pizza. I pictured it to be like the oversized jersey shore boardwalk slices, but when we walked in it was just a regular pizza place. The pizza was good, but nothing special. There are way better pizza places in NJ!

I always loved the place. They have by far the cheesiest pizza on the planet. Just as good as it was 30 years ago.
