Owner is very sweet. It took way to long for lunch service about 45 minutes. The collard greens had entirely to many stems which made them bitter and also were not cooked with any meat which the menu doesn’t suggest. I’m assuming to stretch the servings«hint to cook, stems make green bitter». For 2 people it was $ 30 way to much for lunch. Probably won’t ever go back. Also it’s not really restaurant setting at all more like cafeteria setting with homeless folks walking through.

Let me start by saying the people who work here are pretty nice. I wish I could say the same about the food. I ordered 4 wings, Mac and cheese, yams, and fried okra. The total was over $ 14.00. WHY!!! Wings were cooked well, but had no seasoning. Mac and cheese(which I thought would be excellent once the name of the restaurant has Mac and cheese in it) was awful. It was dry Mac and cheese. It seemed to have no binding ingredients like eggs or a roux. It was just macaroni with some stringy cheese. The fried okra lacked seasoning. The best part of my meal was the yams. And to top it all off, it tasted like the chicken and okra was fried in old rancid grease. I am so disappointed. I wanted to package it all up and take it back for a refund of my money. Overly priced food that is not well prepared. Unfortunately I won’t be back. This is not how my mother, grandmother, or great grandmother made southern food in Virginia. Please change the grease and your recipes. Oh and okra is not a side so I had to order as a main dish.

So I tried this place this week because I had heard nothing but good things from people about it. Unfortunately, it was terrible. Soul food is my favorite type of food, so I could not have been more disappointed. I ordered the Fried Red Snapper. The meat was dry and it tasted like they forgot to add seasoning. My side was Mac n’ Cheese, which was horrible. Tasted like someone dumped nothing but black pepper into it. I also had greens. The greens were actually pretty amazing and the best part of the meal. I also had cornbread, which also lacked flavor. My husband had Fried Chicken. The chicken was cooked perfectly, however it also tasted like they had forgot to season it. He ordered pinto beans, which had been overcooked and looked more like refried beans. The meal for 2 of us was $ 30. This was a big waste of money due to the poor quality of the food. I would not ever go back.

Disappointed. The chicken was bland, and was really looking forward to fried chicken after having some out of this world fried chicken In Utah. This place is not for me. The sausage was the only good thing. But the sides were bland and cold. Nice people though, would like to see them get better.

I’m sorry but this place was not great. My mac n cheese was cold and my hubby wanted chicken it took them 30 mins to cook it and it came out dry and flavorless. It was not worth the price at all and the staff was rude giving my hubby and I dirty looks. Anyway if you want good soul food just go to your moms or make a trip to LA because you wont find it up here. I have tried every place up here and they are all disappointing.

Fried chicken lacked flavor. Bbq beans good. eh it was just okay for me. Mac and cheese dry. Took a while for my order but then again it’s cooked to order. I like to try new places at least once. Maybe I’d give this place another try and order something else.

I went in at lunchtime. The service was great. I ordered the lunch special for 5.99. Two prices of bbq chicken and two sides. Mac and cheese and baked beans. Delicious. Well worth it. The bbq sauce was perfect and home made. I ordered the tri-tip. With greens as my side. It was so good to die for. I could see they receive take out orders and they deliver so I advise call your order in. They have growing pains right now I waited patiently for my order and it was well worth it. I made 3 meals of all this food and it was so satisfying. I will go back. It is to die for.

Great people food is great. I’m from the Bay Area and it has been hard to find one of mom and pop places that do real home cooked food like grandma. This is the place. You will not be disappointed

ORDERFOODHEADOFTIME. It takes awhile for food to be ready about 30 minutes and there was two tables ahead of me. I ordered the meat loaf, baked beans, cornbread, and macaroni. The cornbread was a little dry, burnt, and lacking flavor. The macaroni has lots of pepper with a small amount of cheese. The baked beans are very sweet and delicious. The meat loaf is the best meat loaf I ever had! I get meat loaf almost everywhere I go, and this place has the best meatloaf. The dinner comes with two big slices of meatloaf. PRICESARENOW $ 1INCREASED.

Been sick & stuck at home, so was delighted to find this great place with delivery! Have an allergy to all peppers(yes, even black pepper!) So was looking for a good Mac n’ cheese I could enjoy. Figured I would give Renee’s a try. Delivery took a long time, but for the most part, the food was well worth it. I found that everything had way too much pepper for me to enjoy, but the boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed everything!

Waited more than one hour for our food. Extremely slow service, the 3 tables before us were complaining that they waited an hour for their food too. As we paid for the food, we couldn’t leave. And they could just take their own sweet time. Worst experience ever! Avoid! They were rushing to serve deliveries while everyone seating in the store waits at least an hour each. I guess they knew the people in the restaurants were all passing by, so gave us such disgustingly despicable services. But we noticed they were shouting and rushing much faster for local delivery service! Avoid this place if you are passing by! Totally disgusted

Went back tonight for the second time, tonight we tried the meatloaf which was OK, Fried chicken which was absolutely amazing, The yams again which were absolutely amazing, Red beans and rice was pretty good, The cornbread was OK, and we also got the baby back ribs which were good! So as long as this place doesn’t change any flavors up, and stays fantastic like it is, we’ll definitely be coming back as regulars!

So friendly. So delicious. Ordered the tilapia and had enough for lunch and dinner! And it was better warmed up last. The cole slaw — raisins, secret ingredient makes it better with just a hint of sweet. You can tell they really care about their food. Thank you for a terrific lunch experience today.

Food is really good especially the Mac and cheese! But the restaurant is in a odd place and parking is far away around a block away, it would be great if they moved into a more accessible area I get their business would really take off

Who would’ve known? Little gem in a greyhound station. Real deal SOUL-food. Not greasy. I tried the fried catfish, fried chicken, sausage links, fried okra, collard greens, and mac and cheese. From the taste of the food you can tell they change the oil. Fresh. Crispy fried catfish. Collard greens seasoned just right, not bitter. Mac and cheese was not too cheesy or sloppy but tasty. Very friendly courteous staff. Food was better than expected. Will definitely come back.

Wow! This is some down home cooking! I cannot wait to go back and eat more! The service feels like you are also at home and you can feel the warmth. They are actually happy to have you dine in their place. The mac and cheese is creamy and delicious and the ribs melt off the bone! My daughter enjoyed the BBQ chicken and she said it was the best! Cabbage was also a plus! The prices are way good and I should have purchased another dinner to take home for tomorrow!

This was our first visit. I called in a take-out order for my Husband to pick up on his way home from work. I ordered a 2 piece fried chicken dinner and the ox tail dinner. I was so excited to try the food… as good home cooked southern food is hard to find around here. Sadly we were disappointed. The fried chicken was cooked too long and was VERY dry. The ox tail was served over a ton of white rice and was very soupy. The liquid was even spilling out in the bag and made a big mess! They forgot to give us the cornbread I was so eager to try and unfortunately the Mac and Cheese was greasy. I don’t know if they were having a bad day or if the staff was new. But we were very disappointed. I guess if we want good home cooked southern food we will have to make it at home. *sigh*

Didn’t realize this place was here. Its inside the transportation building, right next to greyhound. The place is small, only 9 tables, so it isn’t much, but the food is great for the location. The staff was very friendly and courteous. The BBQ is fresh off the grill. I had the hot link combo with red beans and rice, and Mac n cheese. Give them a try!

Visited Renee’s for the first time tonight and really enjoyed it. I had the smoked baby-back ribs with mac-n-cheese and cornbread. I also wanted to try their fish, so I ordered the red snapper on the side. It was all very good, and the mac-n-cheese was outstanding. The food was great, but I also really enjoyed meeting the family that owns and runs the place – they are super friendly, genuine, hardworking people, and they made it a very pleasant experience! They are just the kind of people you enjoy doing business with. If you’re tired of the chain restaurants, give this place a try. Great food, great people!

I do not know if the palates of the population of Victorville have never experienced good home cooked comfort food or the only people that have reviewed Renee Allen’s are friends of the owner, but I have to tell you I found the food to be disgusting and damn near inedible. I ordered the fried chicken with three sides; first the chicken was under cooked(pink at the bone) and extremely greasy, the potato salad was so salty I had to dump it after one bite, the mac and cheese was cold and congealed, and the black eyed peas tasted like they had been in a refrigerator for days. The only thing remotely edible was the corn bread. The service was very poor all teenage kids who seemed more concerned about texting and socializing that customer service. Avoid this place like the plague, there has to be better food establishment choices in the High Desert.

Sadly disappointed. We ordered fried pork chops with rice and gravy– sides of mac & cheese and black-eyed peas. We added a la carte ribs and corn bread. Asked for glasses of water… Brought out side dishes of water– very awkward to pick up to drink from. The corn bread was very flat flavored… Almost like something was missing. Black-eyed peas– lacked flavor too. The Mac and cheese was only fair… Ehhhh… Not great, not bad. The ribs were also fair– nothing spectacular– though the bbq sauce was good. Pretty sure the ribs were oven ribs– not bbq. The fried pork chops were pretty good– stayed moist inside. But we didn’t get the rice and gravy we’d ordered– so told the boy, he immediately took the styrofoam container and said he’d fix that– several minutes later brought it back. The gravy was extremely peppery! To the point of distraction! While we were eating the chops, rice, and gravy, the lady in charge(owner maybe?) made a point of letting us know that the boy had under-charged us– hadn’t charged for what we ordered– rather for the chop dinner without rice and gravy… If I hadn’t been turned off by the sub-par food already, that would definitely have done it! When we finished and were leaving, same lady kept asking questions about how we liked it… We tried polite evasive answers– but she kept prompting– so I told her what I’ve told you here! Highly doubt I would ever return.

Yum! Try this little hole in the wall for the best Mac n Cheese ever! My husband had the fried chicken special, which is cooked to order. Next time we are driving through Victorville we will be stopping here! Also had cornbread & baked beans which were delish.

The folks at Route 66 Museum suggested the restaurant to my wife and I. I went there today. I had the 2 pc fried chicken lunch, with collards and black-eyed peas. As a multi-gen Southerner I know these are at once the easiest to get right or really mess up. The chicken leg was fried perfectly. It could perhaps have used a little more seasoning, but was very good. The thigh’s skin was a bit overcooked but the meat was good. The collards were cooked perfectly, and much more important, the pot likker was exactly on target. For non-Southerners, pot likker is the resultant juice from cooking collards in water. If undercooked, there is no flavor in the pot likker, and if overcooked, then it is nasty. However, the taste was exactly what it should be. There was a little more pepper used than I expected, but not so much that it overpowered. The black-eyed peas were also just about perfect. They were cooked right and served hot. The sweet tea was just right, enough to know it is sweet tea, without being too sugary. The price is fair for the food, and service is friendly. The setting is basic but nice and kept clean. I will be back to try more of the menu. The only suggestion I would make is add a blackened catfish!

I stopped by Renee Allen’s Mac and Cheese & More’s new Victorville location to try out some genuine Southern style cooking and I was not disappointed! This hidden gem is situated in the Old Town Victorville Transportation Center building right next to the Greyhound bus terminal. There’s even plenty of parking right across the street. Service was friendly, décor was nice, but it’s the food that really shines here! I ordered a pulled pork sandwich with a side of coleslaw. The flavor of the pork was amazing, it tasted like eating pork ribs without the bone! This was hands down the best pulled pork that I have ever experienced, even besting my own homemade versions. The cole slaw had the perfect tanginess to it balanced out with just enough sweetness. It was so amazingly good. I don’t know about you, but I love to top my pulled pork sandwiches with coleslaw and combining these two was a real treat. I decided to try an Apple tart for dessert and I was not disappointed there either. Portions were good sized too. If you leave this place hungry it’s your own fault. The kitchen area is in full view of the counter so you can see they run a clean and tidy place. No frills here, all of the dining accoutrements are disposable. So don’t come in expecting silverware and stoneware and feel disappointed by styrofoam and plasticware. Come here for the food! All in all I had a great experience here and would recommend you give it a shot, pulled pork is not the only thing on the menu but in my opinion it’s one of the best things. Don’t forget it’s the mac and cheese that made them famous, maybe I’ll give that a go next time.
