yes, the beachfront means much higher prices, but among the many places here, Chops represents the best of best. Tonight i had a nice clean cut NY strip, excellent crust, perfect sear, a perfect medium cook. not over seasoned(i hate steak houses that leave a burn on your tongue from salt). with a side salad, asparagus, and risotto. Of particular note the risotto was a creamy finish with a firm body, flavored with button mushrooms well mixed throughout. Service was prompt, frequent and very attentive. Robert was my server, polished, personable and detailed. I did notice surrounding tables were well attended by the other servers as well, but Robert was an absolute star. The GM circulated often and i felt assured any issue would be attended to, but I had no need to test that, dinner was perfect. the restaurant has both open energetic space around the bar, and intimate booths in the dining room. Ambiance overall is modern upbeat while not over the top. I had a tough day, i needed to indulge in a diet violation. I left in an incredibly good mood. In another review someone compared Chops to a Ruby Tuesday, and all I can say is that must be one hell of a RT(let me know where it is), because I believe Chops is what steakhouse aspire to be when they grow up.

Best steak I’ve ever had! My favorite drink there is the expresso martini. The food is worth every cent! They serve an excellent brunch & dinner! Great wait staff and ambience.

We came here for brunch, and it was the worst food I’ve ever had at a restaurant. Our potatoes were not fresh, the french fries were stale and cold, the chicken was tough to cut and tasteless, along with the bun that was extremely soggy. We didn’t finish the food & we asked for the check. My sisters burger was brought out as a medium instead of well done, so she asked for a Rise & Shine which is $ 5 cheaper. Our burger was left on the bill instead of the Rise & Shine. Fortunately our waitress discovered the mistake before we pointed it out, but we waited over 15 minutes just for her to reprint the check. We ended up paying cash because we did not want to see how long it would take to swipe the credit card. Did I mention that we were the only ones in the whole restaurant? There were only two other people there and they were sitting at the bar. Today was my first & last time eating at chops.

Excellent customer service with good foods! I have been eaten out there for a few time but they never disappointed me. I ordered for the scallops for appetizer and it was big scallops and creative. My entrée was a 8oz steak, it was so juicy and seasoning well. I used a groupon deal this time but I don’t mind to come back there. Next time I would try to their happy hour too.

The food here is pretty good. The wine was good. The ambiance is good. The waiter made the experience awful. He was a complete slob. Missing teeth, buttons open showing his belly, and grossest of all, his entire face and forehead were completely covered in sweat and he wiped it all off with his right hand and wiped it on his clothes, right in front of me while he was taking my order. I was so disgusted that I just couldn’t enjoy my meal. This guy needs to be a mechanic or a plumber or a junk yard laborer, not a server in a high end restaurant. He reminded me of Fred Sanford. So, the food is a 4, the service is a zero. I’m being nice by averaging that out to a 3.

Shut this place down, it’s like a nice Applebee’s or Ruby Tuesdays. Service and food were absolutely terrible. Save your money!!!

Disappointing experience — made reservations for 5:30 pm to celebrate husband’s birthday. Server was Shannon — no one else was seated in restaurant area. Server never mentioned any specials, food was fine but nothing plain for dessert. I told the server to bring me the check, they still handed it to my husband. There was no point for the hostess to ask about our reason for the meal, when they never acknowledged his birthday — for a 110.00 bill without alcohol, the level of service was very, very disappointing. I’d recommend either Byrd and Baldwins in Norfolk or even Ruth Chris…

Absolute amazing experience. No need to get the 50 $ steak. The top sirloin is the cheapest steak on their menu and I was blown away. Along side the bacon mac and cheese, my meal was complete. Must go! Not to mention I found it on groupon which saved is 20 $.

Another place I wanted to be great… its just not great. Virginia Beach needs a high end steakhouse on the beach and this still has the potential to be just that. Atmosphere and location have everything going for it. It has the place … it just needs to deliver. First — I had several of the house drinks from the drink menu. They were pretty bad. They need a mixologist to come up with some real good crafted drinks that set them apart. Second Food — it was good. It just wasn’t great. I just didn’t think the flavors all went together. I’m also fond of béarnaise sauce for my filet in a high end steak house. Most have — here they had no sauces or toppings to add to your steak. They just need to step up their game before it is too late. I will probably go one more time maybe next summer and see if it gets better. Hopefully they are aware they need to get this place to the next level.

We dined with no wait around 6pm saturday night. Our seat was along a wall, as requested at a little table for two. The atmosphere was pleasant and a bit romantic. And the service was wonderful! He ordered the bone in rib eye Pittsburgh style. It was cooked perfectly with great flavor. With a side of mac n cheese and spinach. I ordered the Mahi Mahi on the gouda risotto rice with asparagus. It was delicious! Not even a tad bit fishy. We were also offered the most delicious bread with whipped herb butter. My mouth is watering remembering it now! We order our food no onions, no garlic and both the spinach and mac n cheese came wrong. Nevertheless, the rest was palatable. The food and service were good, but not so good for the bill when it arrived. I’d still rate it the best, but will consider less spendy restaurants with bolder flavors minus the garlic and onions.

The service here was impeccable. Our waitress had great recommendations, was extremely professional, and was very personable. The appetizers were excellent. One of the best spinach artichoke dips we have ever had and the calamari came with a delicious basil pesto aioli. The entrees were definitely good, however the steak prices were a little high. My steak was really good but I’m not sure it needed to be so expensive. The other food our party got(mahi mahi, burger, chicken saltimboca) was also excellent. We also splurged on desert and enjoyed the cheesecake and gelato. Our first choice was crème brule but sadly they were sold out early in the evening. Overall I would eat here again, just not too often on a budget.

Fantastic ambiance and environment. Very clean and upscale. The food was quite good but I didn’t care for any of their staff. The hostess acted like she was put out to be there. The waitress pulled the old, «microwave my coffee» bit.(Strike 2) the bussers and food runners were kids with zero personality who, apparently, were never taught to return a «hello» when someone says hello. The food took a very long time so the waitress offered to give us free cheap champagne as a sorry for our wait. Again the environment, décor and food quality was good but the staff needs an overhaul.

Excellent service and great food! I ate the French Dip which was Prime Rib on French Bread served with Au Jus. It was really delicious! Also comes with a side of steak fries. I would definitely come back here again!

Not a locals place, prices, atmosphere and food are more for tourists. Service was good but not over the top like other steak houses. The bar is first when you walk in and the hosted stand is in the middle of the restaurant, with several giddy scantily dressed hostesses attempting to secure a clean table. Not impressed by the lack of professionalism. I was looking forward to the Tasso braised pork shank that had received the highest reviews on Unilocal, however I was disappointed in several aspects. Positive: it was very large. Negatives: not flavorful, dry, bland except for the fennel salad on top that was vinegary. The Parmesan risotto was very al dente and did not pair well with the other flavors on the plate. The plate as a whole was a disappointing mix of flavors. My husband had the fish and chips, three fish pieces and three very dark potato strips. The fish was more greasy than expected. As though it was left in the oil too long. Our salads(the wedge and spring greens) were very good and sizable. As locals, we will not return.

Nice restaurant for special occasions. Exceptional service and good food. Awesome wait staff. The waiter was very polite and attentive. The menu has variety but small. If I went again I wouldn’t order the pork dish. It was massive and I didn’t enjoy the flavors. My boyfriend had the chicken and waffles. So jealous!!!

Wish I would have found this place earlier in our trip! It was definitely a place I would have eaten at multiple times. I enjoyed my perfectly cooked sirloin and the seasonal risotto! The wait staff was timely and kind! And the restaurant hired some great live entertainment! It was a great night spent with the family.

We went there for my husband’s birthday and it was just okay. He said his steak was pretty good so thats a relief. My salmon was just average and the arugula salad was too sour. My plate needed salt, everything was pretty bland. The waiter was great, until he made an obnoxious comment about us using a groupon for the occasion. Well there goes half your tip buddy… We wont be back.

Had Restaurant week fare. Mahi sandwich on Brioche. Over-seasoned frozen fish tastes just like you’d expect it to. Steak fries and french onion soup were pretty good. Definitely a filling meal for $ 10. Mahi sandwich is on the menu, though, and it needs work. It’s a nice space with outside seating. Good ambiance. Good service.

Came here Friday night with another couple. Surprisingly their happy hour is AWESOME& has KILLER prices. I got a house white wine for $ 5 my fiancé got a tall shocktop for $ 3. They weren’t very generous with the wine portion but this place was super fancy. We ordered the nachos which I don’t think they were worth 15 $ there were 4 chips on the plate. I mean they were good but not good enough for $ 15. I had the peppered seared tuna steak(rare) and holy crap it melted in your mouth it was absolutely perfect my fiancé had a delicious aged steak. It was perfect. Absolutely perfect. The place was pricy but the steak was well worth 50 $ and the happy hour drinks were well worth it. We definitely will be coming back for happy hour again. One suggestion is adding another bartender or 2 for Friday night happy hour. The bartenders were swamped with table and bar drinks and couldn’t keep up. It took about 20 mins for our drinks while standing at the bar. Our waiter was an older gentlemen named Daniel and he was so sweet!!!
