So glad I found this place through Unilocal!I love how all of their ingredients are locally sourced, I’m pretty sure they have a large garden by the parking lot. My friend and I ordered a burnt honey cappucino and a lavender latte, and it was so good! The flavor was very light and it combined well with the coffee. We then had zucchini fritters which were so good with the mayo sauce that it came with combined with the mustard seeds. I only had a problem with the burnt edges, it was good at first until it became a bit overwhelming. My friend is vegetarian and she was happy that she had a good amount of items to choose from, she really enjoyed the Shrimp Roll that she ordered. I ordered a burger and it tasted so good with their homemade ketchup! Our waitress was really kind and informative, all the staff were very friendly too! I would definitely stop by again to see what new dish they have for the month/season since they have new dishes based on whats locally available! The prices are fairly priced and very affordable, would definitely stop by for brunch again.

I’m a Ghent resident who drives into Virginia Beach once a week for a standing doctor’s appointment near the Town Center area. By the time I leave, it is time for lunch, and it has long been my habit to stop into one of my favorite restaurants nearby. Unfortunately, I had fallen into a rut. I was going to the same places over and over again, sometimes with diminishing returns. After seeing so many beautiful photos of the dishes at Commune, I finally decided it was time to venture outside my comfort zone and try this restaurant. I had not driven this close to the oceanfront in at least a decade. It wasn’t as difficult to find as I thought. Driving down Virginia Beach Boulevard, I easily spotted this restaurant at the intersection of Baltic Avenue during my first trip. I hung a right and parked against the curb with no problem. Ditto for my other two visits. It was my personal goal to visit this restaurant three times during three consecutive weeks and then write my review. Today I completed my third visit. The seating arrangement consists of a variety of wooden communal tables and a few wooden bar seats. I managed to find a seat at a different wooden table during each visit. During my first visit, I ordered the following: OATMEALWITHYOGURT: Warm Cracked Barley Oatmeal, Yogurt, Bee Pollen, and Hickory Syrup. I loved the contrasting textures of the rugged whole grain oatmeal and the smooth creamy yogurt. The bee pollen and hickory syrup provided taste dimensions I had never before experienced. The composition was profoundly delicious and one which left me feeling with a healthy afterglow. My Rating: 5 Stars. For my second visit: PUNGOCREEKHEIRLOOMGRITS: Creamy Heirloom Cornmeal Grits, Slow Roasted Shredded Beef, Sunny Side Up Egg, Seasonal Roasted Veggies, Fresh Greens, Smoked Peanuts, And Chili Oil. This dish was beautifully photogenic and delivered an unforgettable taste experience to match. I especially loved the taste and texture of the kohlrabi beets as shown in the photo. The grits, greens, egg, and chili oil combined together beautifully for an exquisite taste combination. My Rating: 5 Stars. For my third visit: HUERVOSRANCHEROS: Organic Buckwheat Crêpe With Refried Organic Black Beans, Crumbled Sausage, Fried Egg Salad, Cheddar Cheese, Cilantro, Pickled Leeks, Tomatoes, And Garden Greens. With Homemade Sour Cream On The Side. The buckwheat crêpe delivered a hearty wholesome texture and another new and enjoyable taste experience. The serving size was humongous, and I enjoyed the supporting ingredients. Yet, this dish did not sing to me quite as much as the others, Something was missing, and I knew what it was. This dish was screaming for some hot sauce. When I asked my server for some, she graciously told me that everthing they serve is made in house, but that they did have a creamy cayenne sauce available. I tried it, but it didn’t quite deliver the heat I wanted. I would have even preferred some Texas Pete. But I knew better not to make such a request. It would have been an insult to the ethos of this restaurant, with its emphasis upon locally sourced ingredients and with everything made from scratch. I managed to eat about half of this dish and took the rest home. I immediately broke out my favorite hot sauce, Dave’s Ghost Pepper Hot Sauce, added a few splashes, and devoured the rest. It was just what it needed and made my hot tooth sing. My Rating: 4 Stars. Such a minor little nit was not about to prevent me from giving this restaurant and my dining experiences here a well deserved 5-star review. I will be looking forward to returning in a few weeks to experience another new and wholesome taste adventure.

My family and I had an absolutely miserable experience at Commune. I’ve been meaning to try this place for a while but it’s hard to get to with their hours(closes at 4pm). I knew it would be busy on a weekend. I was prepared for that. The wait for a table was quick, 10 minutes. We were seated at a larger table w/another group(they do table sharing here). The tables are high & the chairs are low so that’s a bit awkward. Our server was very slow to come over. She told us about a special mimosa & appetizer dip. I could barely hear anything she was saying. It was noisy & she was speaking softly. Someone in my party told her he was able to hear her & she just paused so I repeated to him the parts I heard. A long time goes by after we ordered drinks. Our tea & coffee plus one of the featured mimosa weren’t delivered so we wave her down to place our food order. The mimosa was described as mint sorbet. When it arrived it literally looked half drunk(see picture) there was a hint of mint, no sorbet, & something else I couldn’t quiet figure out. Meanwhile, the staff turned the fan on above us on high. Napkins & silverware wrappers blew off the table. It was intense cold wind. We asked our waitress if it could be turned down. She said she would ask the mgr but no one turned it down. We asked the mgr who said no bc it’s 80° in the dining room which was absolutely untrue. Next we saw her talking to customers at the table beside us. I assumed she was asking them if they mind if we joined them at their table to remove us from under the fan. This was not the case, they were asked to move to our table to give their table to some customers w/an unhappy child. Children were screaming everywhere bc everything was so chaotic in there and taking forever. Full out pitching fits; five of them across the room. Parents were visibly stressed. Food was taking almost an hour to come out. The nice people moved for that family w/a crying child. One of the ppl who joined us had the same mimosa I was drinking only hers was poured to a normal serving. I asked her if she liked it. She quickly responded no bc it tastes like a bitter cucumber. That was it! A bitter cucumber. I didn’t think of that when I was trying to figure it out bc cucumber was not in the description that I heard. We had empty drinks for a long time. We had to wave our waitress down again. I don’t know why she was doing a lot of pacing but not checking in. I think she must have been completely inexperienced & overwhelmed. The mgr asked us how we were doing, brought us refill for water after 40 minutes and still waiting for food. We asked for coffee and cream refills. She came back without the cream. I was ready to ask for the check before the food came. The people next to us said it had almost been an hour since they ordered their food and thy came in after us. I saw food sitting in the window. The kitchen rang the bell, our waitress looked at it then walked away. The kitchen rang the bell twice more, our waitress went back to look at it again & the kitchen told her to take it. There was some sort of discussion going on & the cook started digging through order slips & showing the waitress where the food goes. Sure enough it was ours & to no surprise, just like us, it was very cold. We asked for syrup for waffles that never came. The mgr. asked us how everything was. We said we were physically uncomfortable bc of the wind blowing on us for an hour & our food & drinks were cold too. It was also uncomfortable that she just kept apologizing without doing anything to improve the situation & was kneeling down near our faces asking us questions while we were trying to eat the food before it got colder. Seriously we waited over an hour, we have food in our mouths, now is not the time to be asking us questions for an extended period of time. She didn’t believe us that our food was cold. We showed her how the butter didn’t melt, even slightly, on the pancakes. We told her syrup never came so she brought it. It was in a chilled metal sauce cup that had been in the refrigerator. When we went to pour it it was so cold we have to get it out with a knife. Trying to pour the nearly solidified chilled syrup for our cold waffles is what caused me to bust out laughing. At this point, that’s all you can do. She said well it’s refrigerated. Right! Sure was! She offered to take the food off the bill. We said no that we just want them to know for future reference that this was an extremely unpleasant experience & the reasons why. She gave us cupcakes & a $ 30 card for next time. We used the gift card for this transaction…3 people ordered breakfast items was $ 55. When I learned that pitiful mimosa was $ 10 I was extremely disgusted. That’s extortionate for all it was. Later on I tried the cupcakes(also pictured). They were much nicer to look at than to eat. They were dense and bland. It appeared vanilla but didn’t take like vanilla. The icing was very thick & overwhelmingly sweet.

Very friendly wait staff. We sat at the bar and ordered outstanding service. My bride had the sourgum pancakes, my son had the buckwheat crepes which where huge and tasty. I had the eggs Benedict over spinach ham and sweet potato biscuits. It was all presented wonderfully and tasted Devine. This place is wonderful. Loved it

I’ve been hearing so many great things about Commune that I had to stop in and give it a try before a perfect beach day. I loved the feel as soon as I walked into the restaurant. There was cute décor and great lighting. My friend and I chose to sit by the window since there weren’t many tables available during that time. Although the menu wasn’t very large, everything I read was so mouth-watering that I wanted a bite of everything! I chose to order the Croque Madame Brioche waffle to get away from my typical eggs benedict for brunch. It was so delicious and reminded me of the sandwich I got in Paris. The only complaint I had was that the ham was pretty salty, but that’s expected of Virginia ham. I liked the greens that came with it because it truly gave you that brunch feel. For dessert, I HAD to try the dulce de leche ice cream sandwich since everyone has been raving about it. I would come back just to get that ice cream sandwich! Although the graham cracker was a bit tough, the ice cream was so good! Commune is definitely a great addition to the art-deco area of Virginia Beach.

Back again. This place is only a hop and a skip away, so we just keep coming back. Found my NEW favorite. The stuffed brioche waffle, salty, savory– DELISH. Had a latte, but their straight up coffee is still my favorite. It’s strong and has good flavor. If you’re in the lunch mood, the crab cake sandwich is very yummy. A lot of the«lunch» items are great for breakfast, just add an egg.

The day we came here it was literally 97 degrees outside. All of the shacks and other restaurants in the area were serving up fried this and fried that. When we found commune on Unilocal– only a half mile off the beaten bath of the beach we were overjoyed. With both inside and outside seating there is somewhere for everyone. We were happily greeted and seated at a window with tall bar stools. The menu had a lot of fresh and flavorful options and we started with coffee and the the muddled mimosa. It was more of a champagne and bitters type concoction but great none the less. We also had the yogurt cupcake which was tasty as well. For our mains I had the big breakfast sandwich with bacon and pepper mayo. It was a little salty but for me that was nice. My wife had the croissant bread pudding French toast — with a side if Dulce de leche ice cream. Seriously out of this world good! Easily the best French toast we have ever had. Our waitress was tentative and awesome and we hope to come back soon.

Update: I came back a week later and the long table had been separated to make more tables, they had a hostess to seat people, and their mimosa grew in volume. Thumbs way up! Let me start of with the pros. The food. The food here is amazing. My husband is not a huge breakfast/brunch person but I forced him out this morning to try this place because the pictures looked so damn good at 11pm at night that all I could dream about was coming here. My husband ordered the croquet Madame with brioche stuffed waffles I believe. I probably totally got the name wrong but it was delicious and he loved it. I don’t think he was expecting it to be so delicious. It came with a side salad that he actually ate all of so the dish was that good! I had the Sorghum pancakes with French style eggs, ham, and vegetables. It was delicious. The eggs were cooked to perfection, the pancakes were perfect in flavor and consistency(for gluten free) and the vegetables were cooked just enough to where they still had some crunch. Now let’s talk about the mediocre. We both ordered the burnt honey latte and I also ordered a strawberry mimosa. From what I had read, I thought I was going to fall over from this latte because it would be that good but for one when it came out it wasn’t all that hot, in fact it was actually so luke-warm I could’ve chugged it. I didn’t mind too much. But also I didn’t think the flavor was anything spectacular. Don’t get me wrong, it was good, but I don’t drink my coffee usually with sugar, just milk, and it was slightly too sweet for my own personal liking. Especially towards the bottom I felt like I could feel the sugar between my teeth which made me kind of nauseous. Also the strawberry mimosa comes out in a glass half full. It’s kind of odd. It’s like a shot instead of a full glass and for $ 8 I feel like my glass could’ve been filled up. On to the bad. I had really high expectations coming here but unfortunately this part of the experience really bummed me out. When we arrived it was pretty full but we were the only ones in the waiting area and a couple was leaving by the window counter so the girl behind the bar told us we can just seat ourselves. That is my first real qualm here. In my opinion, seat yourself only works when you aren’t a busy establishment or you are a coffee shop. It doesn’t work for sit down meals because it causes too much chaos and stress amongst patrons to try and find a seat for themselves and wander around looking. That just needs to be changed. They need to have the hostess seat people. And I’ll tell you another reason why in a moment. Anyway we sat down at the window counter and I’ll admit, even for a cloudy day, with the way the sun was trying to poke through it was almost impossible for me to look forward because of how bright it was. So that was ok I guess, my husband and I faced each other. The stools were not comfortable, the counter space was not big. This was seating i’d expect in a Starbucks or a small bakery but for a brunch place, especially farm to table– come on! Get rid of the counter and put in more tables. As the sun began trying to peek it’s way through the clouds my husband and I began getting more and more uncomfortable. By this point we just wanted to move and were scouting the place for people who looked like they were going to leave. We asked our waitress as well as another whether we could move because the sun was starting to bake us in the window, melted the ice in our water immediately after it being poured and made me start sweating uncomfortably in my sweater. Both waitresses said we could as soon as we saw something open so when a group of four left from one of the picnic benches we ran towards it. Here comes the second issue with seating yourself– a group that had been in the waiting area came over and confronted us that they had been waiting for that seat and were told by the hostess that they could sit there. We backed off because they had a baby and we didn’t want to make a scene but we were awkwardly standing there trying to figure out where to go now because our previous seats had now been taken. Eventually a spot opened up at the Main table and my husband went and sat down across from me but ended up having to move next to me because I couldn’t hear anything he was saying as the distance was too far between us. The seating needs to change because that was chaotic and it could’ve been avoided. Now for the icing that really downed my experience. We ordered our lattes right away when our waitress came to greet us and yet it took 25 minutes for them to come out!!! 25 minutes? For coffee? It took about 15 minutes for my mimosa to come out. I understand that on Sunday’s it’s busy and a popular day but to me that’s just an inexcusable wait time. Secondly– our food came out about at the 40 minute period, which is a long time for breakfast food in my opinion. I know this is long but if these things get changed I’ll definitely return!

We were looking for a great brunch place and Commune gave us so much more! Farm to table fresh and unique flavors were evident throughout. The thought of the Stone ground cornmeal waffles with sausage and a fried Sunnyside up egg is still making my mouth water. By far the best waffles I have ever eaten. We also tried the local cider(delicious) and the strawberry mimosas(beautiful). This is a hidden gem of uniqueness and culinary mastery in a land of cookie cutter options designed for tourists. The décor is wood filled, laid back, relaxed vibe. There is a bar, harvest table and individual seating options. If we’re ever back in VA Beach we will be going out of our way to come back!

Sunday finds Chris and myself at Commune for some of Barry’s Sunday breakfast — I have been a few times with others, but this was the first for chris…17th street in va beach — few blocks west of ocean front — across the street from the tiny sharpening shop with big red ax on roof. If you are old like me, back in time it was the Meekins Pontiac dealership. Fine spot for very good food and many things different — you will have to experience it for yourself to truly understand my meaning — and you will not be disappointed I guarantee. Chris had rice bowl –veggies — egg and I had sorghum pancakes-eggs-ham-pumpkin — both were truly outstanding as all of the other items we have tried. Now the coffee — OMG it was some of the best I have ever had — they sell it also, but were sold out for carry out — «Haitian Blue»…wow…be back soon mr barry.

So far I’m amazed. Starting off with my lavender coffee latte. I like that you seat yourself. Music indie, coffee shop music, peaceful ambience. Farm to table. it’s a nice and rustic atmosphere. The table seatings are so inviting, great for big groups definitely meant for communing… hence«commune» with people! Very local. In a great location near the oceanfront. The bar area is perfect with cute wooden stools. The stools were not as comfortable but does the job. I enjoyed the taste of their fresh local coffee with many options to choose from including adding as simple as putting lavender in your coffee. It adds an aromatic and makes soothes your senses while drinking your cup of joe. U can request the drip coffee, latte, macchiato, cappuccino. However u like it. I can’t believe I ordered the WDF crêpe! It was ginormous and I had to take the rest to go. It was super stuffed. I chose to have my crêpe made with buckwheat which is great for those who have a gluten intolerance. It had everything to awaken your palate. The sweetness of the beets, the freshness of the greens. It was pact with a lot of depth in flavor. The menu is has so many good options. It was hard to choose because they all sounded good. Can’t wait to come back!

I love the concept, that is what drew me in, and the lavendar latte! On a rainy Tuesday morning, I came in on my mental health day to try this place for the first time. I love the cozy atmosphere and the seating is communal. I ordered the lavendar latte and the eggs benedict. The latte was everything! Every flavor was well balanced with enough foam and rich espresso. Oh and the bits of lavendar was perfect. The eggs benedict was pretty. The biscuit was moist but I never would’ve thought it was a sweet potato biscuit. Lots of kale! The eggs were perfectly poached. The ham though, it was really salty. I mentioned it to the waitress and she was very sweet and polite and apologized but informed me that’s standard. Next time, I will try the burnt honey latte, skip the biscuit and the ham and try something different food wise. They had a small assortment of baked items at the front that would have gone great with my latte.

My first thought that came to mind when I approached Commune was«COOL!!» It’s got this cool, rustic vibe from the moment you pull up to when you pick a seat to enjoy your meal. A lot of wood, metal, and natural furnishings. It’s quite trendy with the shiplap wall, open air feeling with high ceilings and neat little bar stools. I love the clean concrete floors, too! Oh, and the wooden ceiling and beams! Beautiful! So I noticed a few tables and chairs set up outside but today was just a tad bit chilly for me to have an al fresco lunch so we chose to sit at the bar. I was lucky enough to snag a seat also in front of the food window so it was fun to watch the cooks do their thing. The waitresses are super friendly and personable. The place was pretty jumping at around 2 pm on a sunny Sunday. Although a relatively small restaurant, it was brightly lit inside with the 2 huge corner windows. Not a whole lotta tables(no booths either!) but they do have this one huge, long table that runs in the middle of the dining room. Anyone can sit there and take my word when I say, «Get in where you fit in!,» because it’s pretty much the«communal» dining table. Hey, hence the name, «Commune,» right? I read that their menu items change from time to time and prior to arriving I kind of had my heart set on this Caramel Apple Crêpe but sigh… It’s no longer on the menu! Insert sad face here. Anyway… I decided on the Heirloom Cornmeal Waffles that came with chamomile butter(I think), country sausages, and eggs. The boyfriend ordered the Big Breakfast Sandwich and coffee. Unfortunately the sandwich came alone but according to him it was rather tasty and filling. About halfway into the sandwich, though, he had to stop and ask if the sausage was cooked all the way because it was sightly pinker than we are used to. He was quickly assured it was ok so he happily proceeded to consume! My waffles were delicious upon first bite! It was one of those moments where I even closed my eyes and did a lil shoulder shimmy! The waffles were already sweet and I didn’t have to add or ask for more syrup. It was perfect. This time I didn’t order any special drinks even though they do offer an abundance of teas and types of coffees as well. I was too full to even take advantage of the pastries they had available in the front window. Price tag for the two of us to eat today was around $ 23. Not bad when you get a cool atmosphere, cool waitresses, and awesome tasting«farm to table» cuisine. I noticed that after eating here I did not have that oily, greasy feeling in my mouth. I loved that. I didn’t visit the restroom there but I did notice the fridge with a variety of bottle beers. Several people walked up to it to see what was being offered. I’d say it’s definitely a place to come and enjoy breakfast or lunch as they close at 4 pm. Probably because next door is Esoteric, which opens at 4. They share a parking lot but not at that same time, which to me was a well thought out idea!

Virginia Beach has really stepped up their game with the amount of delicious food that I have had in the past few months and Commune is no exception! Their concept of food is farm to table and that’s exactly what they do when they source local and high quality ingredients; they even have their own garden on site. How cool is that? Their menu is constantly changing due the sources of their local ingredients and the seasonality of certain fruits and vegetables. Process: you order your food at the encounter and choose a place to sit. The only service you get is when they bring out your food/drinks but I am not sure if you need to tip or not? They intentionally display their pastry/croissant case right as you walk in but I didn’t fall for it although we almost bought something to go. I decided on the cornmeal waffles with sausage and a runny egg. This is the BEST brunch meal I have had in recent memory! Waffles were cooked perfectly and wasn’t overly sweet with the syrup; the sausage patty was one of the best patties I have ever had– savory and delectable, I could eat a whole plate of them if I could. I recall almost licking my plate, it was that good. My girlfriend got the beer/cheese sandwich and said it was good but she definitely enjoyed my meal a lot more and I don’t blame her. Service from the ordering counter to when they bring your food/cleared your plate was friendly and great and the prices were also very reasonable. I would pass on their specialty teas though as it wasn’t exciting as I thought it would be. No reservations. Please come and eat here. It’s delicious and I am afraid to get anything else from their menu and be disappointed.

Great local place. The staff was very friendly and attentive even though the place was packed. The sandwiches are tasty. The bread is baked fresh and it was really good. The cubano was a little different than what I expected, but it was good. The chicken salad was also a favorite. The burger was huge and delicious. Portion size is generous. There is a nice selection of local craft beers. The Smartmouth IPA was delightfully hoppy. I would definitely recommend Commune. Good stuff here.

I have been wanting to go here for quite some time(well, at least since they opened) so when I had the opportunity to suggest a place for breakfast I was too stoked to con my friend into going to Commune with me. I showed up at 7:55am(GRANNYSTATUS), and parked in the Esoteric lot(I am guessing they share) and walked up and saw them putting the sign out by the street and walked in. I was instantly greeted by both the people AND the delicious, albeit interesting variety of baked goods. I struck up a conversation with a worker and we discussed some of the goodies and the menu when my friend walked in. We were told we could sit anywhere and we selected a nice table by the Windows. She had a Burnt Honey Milk Steamer(a latte with no espresso) and I had Yaupon Tea for the first time ever. Very interesting flavor and I actually enjoyed it. We split the Peanutella Croissant and I thought it was very good-not a lot of peanut or honey flavor like I was expecting but a good buttery, flaky croissant. Then I had the«W.D.F» crêpe(Whole damn farm-it was a whole wheat crêpe filled with roasted root vegetables, crispy ham, fried egg salad, cheddar, fresh greens and kale pesto)-pretty much the BOMB.COM! She had the Sweet Potato Biscuit Bread Pudding French Toast with yogurt, hickory maple syrup and apples-I personally loved how the flavors melded together but she thought it was a little dry(I am chalking one up to her pregnancy here). A great farm to table restaurant. I am giving it a 4 star because I was a little disappointed in the lack of flavor in the croissant but I will definitely be back and will try a few other things.

There were several things I really enjoyed during my first visit to Commune. The décor is simple and very open — communal tables and bar seating that is first come, first serve. When you first walk in, there is a small waiting area for placing your order for food/drinks/baked goods and it can get a bit crowded until you find a seat. The staff was very friendly from the start which is always a plus. I decided on the beef and beer cheese sammie and a burnt honey latte and my bf had the cornmeal waffles with the breakfast sausage. His meal took a little longer to come out but it was SERIOUSLY worth the wait. Every bite that I stole off his plate was well worth the dirty looks! The sandwich was just okay in comparison, honestly. I loved the slaw but the meat wasn’t very flavorful. I wish I had gotten the waffles instead! I may just be used to the crappy syrup infused stuff from Starbucks so I hoped that the latte would have ben a little sweeter, but overall I liked it. Customers were coming in and out like crazy during our lunch this past weekend. Tables were cleared quickly and everyone seemed to really enjoy their food. I really love what Commune is doing with their concept of sustainable, local ingredients and creative menu! I can’t wait to go back!

I don’t know where to begin but here goes. Commune is what it is all about. It is about eating and celebrating and living and respecting yourself, your food, the way you live, your community and the people around you. Commune literally is a form of communal respect for all things. You will taste the love and the joy in every bite and feel better when you leave than when you came in. The restaurant, which uses much of its greens from its backyard garden, sources locally what they don’t grow. And they use it in inventive ways. Think beets in your breakfast crêpe or catnip tea, or a garnish of flowers that even taste good on your plate. I have had sandwiches here, Pleasure House oysters, salads and pastries but it is the WDF crêpe that has me singing still. It is phenomenal. Filling and warm and new and inventive and yet seemingly familiar. The pumpkin fritters are a close second but I didn’t see them on the menu again after the time I shared them with my daughter. Besides the food that just tastes amazing and the restaurant’s philosophy that makes you have all the feels, you will grow to love how people are seated. Next to each other in big communal tables. It forces you to acknowledge strangers next to you and smile at them, and therefore feel and experience humanity. Again, the feels. This place is busy though. You just grab an open seat(if there is one) and order from the front counter and on the weekend it might feel a bit chaotic. But it isn’t — just wait for a few minutes and a seat will pop open, or at least that has been my experience.

Is it bread pudding or is it french toast? I can’t tell. It’s such a fine line, and they know it, so it’s both. And it’s bomb. Commune has a small menu of sandwiches, crepes, and interesting entrees such as stuffed rice balls, porridge, and cornmeal waffles. I so obviously devoured the brioche bread pudding french toast. The syrup was very light; it helped temper the sweetness level. Perfect brunch.

Pollinator! Buckwheat crêpe? I’m not even sure what buckwheat is, except DELICIOUS when crepeified(new word, meaning to turn something into a crêpe). This was a great dish. The creamy goat cheese was spread thin with the crushed peanuts. It was all very savory, but then they add the honey on there and everything in the world is right again. Also, the service size was sane! Nitpicks. Lot of dishes with egg, which I’m allergic too. While I know I can hold the egg, the whole profile of the dish is probably thrown off(losing that creamy yolk.). Not a deal breaker though. Also, no diet sodas. I know the cool thing is to take soda water, throw in some syrup and call it good, but it’s just not what I’m craving. Again, not losing a star over it. Communal seating is non-uniform and very cozy. Really, everything about this place is cozy, the décor, the bubbly and friendly staff, the art work. The walls are lined with colorful jars and cookbooks. It’s a nice solid offering at the beach that doesn’t come off feeling pretentious. Great job.
