Very friendly staff. Doughnuts are fantastic. They are fresh and you can customize them anyway you want with glaze and topping, etc., or select from the gourmet Doughnuts they have made. Coffee is average. They have a variety of breakfast sandwiches, as well.

Honestly the BESTGORMETDONUTS you’ll ever have! I ate the samoa and raspberry, and my wife had the apple pie. WOW!!! We’ve come here for three years, and they have been consistently spectacular! Now they serve lunch too.

The time is 7:30 on a Sunday.(4÷3÷2016). No lights on, door locked. Very disappointing to have such a wonderfully reviewed place, not open for posted business hours.

This was a fabulous find while vacationing in VA Beach! I needed to pick up a quick breakfast for myself and friends during the shamrock marathon. I tried this shop because it was across from my hotel. Not only were the doughnuts AMAZING, but the owners were super friendly and helpful. I ended up getting way more than I planned because all of the flavors looked so good. They went above and beyond to help me get my haul packed into my stroller and back to the hungry crowd. My husband loved the maple bacon and the cinnamon sugar was simply perfect. We have found our new breakfast spot for future visits, I highly recommend trying it out!

LOVE this place! After being told there was 1.5 hour wait at Doc Taylor’s; we happened upon Dough Joe’s across the street. The donuts here are delightful gourmet masterpieces at a fraction of the price we paid at the Fractured Prune franchise when they were in MD and SO much better(only $ 1.29 per donut — less if you buy more). We also had the smoothies — Mango Bango Colata was fantastic. The breakfast sandwiches are made from scratch — our Texas toast with ham, egg, and cheese was like a grilled cheese stepped up a few notches, yum. Their coffee was fresh and hot, a little too hot but they have frozen coffee cubes for iced coffee I was given to cool mine down to enjoy sooner. Super friendly service. I would come here often if we lived in the area. Well done small business!

We made a quick stop at Dough Joe’s on our way out of VA Beach this morning, as recommended by a friend. The little shop is not a place that would catch your eye and draw you in-in fact, I was quite skeptical upon arrival, because the shop is quite sketchy in its appearance, and the interior is not much better. The doughnuts, sitting in a glass case in the back of the store, were kind of sad to look at and I was starting to feel disappointed with the choices offered. However, once the friendly shop owners described the«doughnut customization process,» things began to look up. There were a ton of options to customize your own doughnut, with a variety of toppings and fillings. After taking quite a while to choose, we headed out of the store with a dozen and a half of doughnuts and 2 cups of coffee for only $ 23. Now was the moment of truth: the taste test. Dare I say that I like Dough Joe’s doughnuts better than the amazing Duck Donuts? What sets Dough Joe’s apart from Duck Donuts is the fact that you can not only get your doughnut topped with your choice of toppings, but you can also get your doughnuts FILLED. Filled doughnuts are the only way to go in my opinion, so this excited me. Some of the doughnuts we tried included the Apple Pie(a Dough Joe favorite), Bostom Cream(Boston Creams are my personal favorite), Raspberry Filled, Almond Joy, Whoopie Pie, Samoa, and Maple Bacon: all which were amazing. What was just as amazing was the friendly and patient service we received as we struggled to pick out our perfect doughnuts. Don’t let Dough Joe’s appearance fool you-this place has amazing doughnuts. Next time you’re in VA Beach, pass Duck Doughnuts and come to Dough Joe’s. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Duck Doughnuts, but you can’t get the variety and the filled doughnuts there like you can at Joe’s!

We bought a dozen the first day. The favorites were apple pie, Oreo on chocolate, peanut butter bacon, and French toast. We went back the last day of our vacation for breakfast. You can make your own creation. We had apple pie with vanilla ice cream inside. My husband had a BLT with an old-fashioned donut instead of the bread. I had a ham, egg and cheese on a French toast donut. What a delicious place and the owners are super nice.

They have some great donuts! They are cake like and they have some really good flavor combos! They were so fresh and if they didn’t have any left of the flavors they had for the day, they will make it for you right then. I will defiently come back for more!

I never knew this place existed until I was waiting to be seated at the restaurant across the street. They’re small, but in a good way. They have your breakfast items covered and your hot summer day icecream stacked high! I had the Apple Pie Donut and it was a slice of heaven. I always ate apple pie as a child and even though this wasn’t exactly pie, my brain lied to me and tried to make me believe it was. Simply incredible!

I am not that serious about donuts, I think they smell amazing and find that I am usually disappointed by the taste, but Dough Joes is the exception! I had a Samoa donut… tasted just like the girl scout cookie but in a cakey donut version, the salted caramel and the peanut butter donut… yes I bought three… don’t judge me! All three of the donuts were amazing in their own way and all were fresh. If I lived in the area I would be eating these all the time! If you are in the area you must go here and try the donuts!!! on a side note I also had a coffee here which was mediocre. not bad but not great.

Good donuts. Over-hyped. But then again I’m getting donuts at 1pm so they aren’t freshly made

There is nothing wrong with the donuts here. But I was a little let down. With all the reviews I was expecting to be blown away by the donuts. These donuts are FRESH don’t get me wrong! Being from Boston, I’m surrounded by Dunkin Donuts everywhere and I grew up eating Dunkin’s. Those can be stale and old and just disgusting so comparing this place to Dunkin’s, Dough Joes wins in freshness and taste. I was let down by the selection of donuts. Also to me, and maybe because I grew up eating Dunkin’s, the donuts were a typical plain donut with extra toppings. Which there is nothing wrong with that, but I was expecting more based on reviews. The coffee wasn’t bad, but nothing I would say is fantastic. They use iced coffee chunks for the iced coffee, which is AWESOME. Instead of watered-down coffee at the end you just get more coffee. I don’t think you can screw up coffee, unless you over-brew it, but a lot of the taste comes from the coffee beans. The coffee was fresh but the beans they use just wasn’t something I’d crave or want on a daily basis. Overall, good place. Friendly staff, fresh food and beverages. Try it out.

Local local local. It does not get more local than this! I got a super chocolate glazed donut, a huge cup of coffee and a breakfast sandwich(egg, cheese and bacon on a bagel). All were awesome and the sandwich was made-to-order(I watched the donuts being made in the meanwhile), tasty and massive. Totally would return to this spot again.

I love donuts so I had to stop in and give them a try. The donuts are a lighter version of a cake donut. We ordered a variety and our top favorite was the double chocolate, next came the salted caramel and in third was the red velvet with cream cheese. They were very nice in the shop and said they could make any donut that was not in the display. Bonus customer service!

Items Selected: Red Velvet Cream Cheese Bavarian Cream Triple Chocolate Strawberry Sprinkle Apple Pie French Toast Sea Salted Caramel Exiting Pocahontas Pancakes with a three hour drive to Ayden ahead it was just a short jaunt to a space I’d noticed when leaving Tautog’s two days prior that saw us gather provisions for the road, and although somewhat new and still finding their footing both locals and tourists should take notice as Dough Joe’s may just be not only the best hidden gem in the Virginia Beach, but also the best donut shop in whole area considering the mediocrity of Duck Donuts and closing of Paradise downtown. Every bit a mom n’ pop operation, with limited parking an issue being worked out according to the young female owner who took my order and offered me a «baker’s half dozen» at the price of six for coming out in the cold, Dough Joe’s is currently a cake-only operation with several pre-made signatures as well as made-to-order options on offer to those willing to wait, and opting to sample only those items concocted by the team behind the fryers one would be hard pressed to name a single sub-par bite amongst the seven donuts sampled — a first bite ofrich Red Velvet topped with subtly sweet cream cheese proving moist yet virtually greaseless, accordingly making it difficult to hold off on sampling the rest until later in the day. Eventually finding the willpower to resist further indulgence only after finishing off the sliced-and-filled Bavarian Cream in the car it was four hours later, after lunch at Skylight Inn in Ayden, that the other five donuts were enjoyed and with each still proving fresh baked in texture despite traveling across state the only questions were where to start and which was best — the French Toast a cinnamon dusted masterpiece while the Sprinkled Strawberry was perhaps the best«Simpson’s» style donut I’ve tasted to date beneath frosting that was surprisingly natural in flavor with sprinkles adding not only texture but their expected sugary spin. Moving onward to heavier flavors, it was the Sea Salt sprinkled caramel that was sampled and with sweet and savory notes playing quite nicely on the tongue a followup of «Apple Pie» filled with cinnamon spiced apples was equally well balanced, a topping of soft streusel ample with butter serving as an ample foil to sucrose while the bittersweet«Triple Chocolate» required no such thing, each rich bite simply calling out for coffee or perhaps a tall glass of cold milk, to compliment the lightly fried ring.

I DO not care for donuts! Krispy Kreme donuts are just too sickening sweet, gooey and leave me wanting a gallon of milk and Duck Donuts in town, while they are dearly loved, just look too messy, sweet and disgusting! NO thanks! I don’t even want to try any! I DO not like donuts until TODAY! My husband wanted to check out a new(since June) «restaurant» at the oceanfront! Once he told me they sold donuts I thought, «oh no not donuts!» We walked in the door and were cheerfully greeted by a well informed man whom I assumed was the owner! We each ordered three. They looked like typical cake donuts… UNTIL I ate three of mine before I could even put them on a plate! OHMY! I have fallen in love with these delicious hand made donuts! The donut part is tender, moist and absolutely DELICIOUS! Now taste the toppings and you’ll go bonkers! Your taste buds will never be the same! For those of you like me who don’t really care for donuts do yourself a favor! Get in your car and drive to this place and grab a dozen… NOTHING better… Ever… anywhere! Don’t be a pig… Save me some!

One word. AMAZING! OMG! Seriously. Dunkin’. Duck. Crazy Good. Who!?! This place is where it’s at for donuts. I’m not exaggerating either. So we had brunch across the street at Doc Taylor’s. We of course« Unilocal» while we’re there. Yes, it’s an action word, and my boyfriend says, «Oh, there’s a donut place right across the street called Dough Joe’s. They have cool flavors!» And of course, I’m like, «Yes! Let’s go there right after we finish brunch!» The place is small, but that’s all they need. Enough to make a few pastries, and especially their donuts. The staff was super friendly and we felt welcome. Don’t you hate places that you get a yucky, unwelcome feeling from? Even if the product is good, I don’t like that. Anyway, you won’t get that here. The owner was friendly and explained a bunch of things to us. How this place came to be, their plans for the future, etc. We decided on half a dozen, which came out to $ 7 something. We actually got 7 donuts for that price.(Baker’s dozen/half dozen special going on.) Some of the flavors that they offer — Turtle, Samoa, Snickers, Lemon/Lemon coconut, French Toast, Apple Pie(their best seller) — and no wonder it is. My boyfriend had that one and I was mad that I didn’t pick of those either. We got home and made a cup of coffee and had a donut each. Upon first bite of his, and first bite of mine(snickers first), I immediately decided that THIS place, DOUGHJOE’s, is my new favorite donut spot. If you don’t come here, or haven’t been here, you are so missing out. Check them out. You won’t be disappointed. We will definitely be coming back, and next time, for a dozen! :D
