This had atmosphere, great service, and great food. There was a 45 minute wait but we hands drinks at the bar and easily passed the time. I would definitely go back.

Came here looking for a late dinner and was not disappointed. Over ordered due to being so hungry and too many things sounding good. We each got the she-crab soup, which was very good. We also shared the Benny’s Oysters; not something I’d ever had, but they were amazing! I had the Pink Pill Martini and a Hurricane for my boyfriend, both tasty! We each had one of the specials for our entrees — snapper for him, tuna for me. We were not nearly as hungry after the appetizers, but still enjoyed what we could. My tuna was seared perfectly. The only thing I’d change about it next time if possible would be to pass on the roasted beets. It was served on a yummy risotto, but anything that touched the beets tasted like them, which was just top strong for me personally. The staff was friendly and accomodatin and the atmosphere was kind of charming — an old cottage, and we were sitting on what we imagined was the old front porch, now covered, and maybe with some additions. Would likely return during our next trip!

Been here at least 10 times. 5 stars off season. 4 stars in season. Food ranges from good to great. The exception is the crab nachos, to be blunt… they suck. They have some really good servers. Expect to wait in season.

I love this place. The restaurant is in a old cottage or house, nice causal atmosphere. Jesse our server was excellent. We order a salmon special and swordfish special, the fish was cooked to perfection. A great culinary experience!

We arrived at Tautog’s at 7:30 on a Tuesday evening in the summa. We scored a bomb @$$ parking space, so we were feelin’ pretty good. After receiving our hour and a half wait, we went on a walk and then got to participate in a local street talent: magic show! We were feelin’ fresh and went back to Tautog’s to be seated, and then the night went downhill. We were assigned to Don’s section. Don wasn’t great. We ordered several food items and beverage items: some cocktails, some salads, some soups, some apps. Don wrote everything down. And Don promptly forgot everything. To bring it down to numbers, we ordered 11 items and Don remembered 2 of those items. That’s an 18% retention rate. As for the food: we enjoyed the she crab soup and herb-encrusted bread, which is really just garlic bread. The other foods were fine, but our mood was at an all time low when Donald forgot our items. We did not receive even any appeteasers until about thirty minutes into our meal and we also did not receive our drinks until after the food had come and one appeteaser was not even cooked when we had finished the other appeteasers. Long story short, Tautog’s could have been a lot better. Awful service, but tasty foods.

I went here with my husband for a fun date night at the beach. It was an overall excellent dining experience. The building had a very laid back atmosphere, and made me feel at home. Our waiter was polite, and of few words. He got the job done well, and was quick with refilling our drinks. Our entrees were up to par and very much satisfied my taste buds. The only issue was the long line to use the restroom. Otherwise, we had a great time.

This place was recommended to us by the owners of our bed and breakfast. It did not disappoint. It is small, noisy, and a little cramped. But the service is great and the food is amazing. I got the stuffed flounder in a bag. I wasn’t expecting it, but it came in an actual bag! It was delicious! Highly recommend it. My husband also got the tuna markine(something like that anyways…) it was cooked perfectly as was delicious as well. Honestly nothing on the menu looked bad. The worse part is realizing that you can’t order everything on the menu.

Ate here during sand soccer weekend to get some good food. Kids loved all the seafood sandwiches and crab nachos. Love the atmosphere and service was excellent even though crazy wait. Worth it!

This place was a fantastic off the beaten path restaurant. Someone at our hotel suggested it and it was a short walk from the boardwalk. My friend and I shared the crab nachos which were absolutely knockout and had some beers. They had a decent beer selection as well. The nachos were so big we almost didn’t order entrees… but everything on the menu looked so good that we had to try something else. I had the catfish po’boy and it was fantastic too. Service was quick and with a smile. I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone who lives in the area or who is visiting!

A group of 9 friends came here on vacation on a whim and ended up having the most delicious dinner we have had all of our stay. Do not let the outside of the restaurant defer you away from this amazing little find. The«she crab» soup was outstanding and very different from anything I have tried around here before. I ordered the Tenderloin, medium it was cooked to perfection and tasted even better. The sea food was fresh and delicious as well. Outstanding dinner 5 stars for sure.

Huh. I guess I don’t get it. Had high hopes for this place, but the best thing I had was the Commonwealth IPA. It was so good that I went back for a second! But the crab nachos were just so-so(probably in the bottom 25% of nachos I’ve had), and the flounder in a bag was good but not incredible. The crab dip was decent, but not mind blowing. Okay, the Key Lime Pie was pretty good, I have to admit… The service was also very solid. So I’d give this place a 3.5 stars if possible. That said, I have trouble going all the way to 4, so here we are at 3.

Smallest crab cakes ever. I have eaten many different crab cakes, but these were the smallest ever. Do not order them.

Great food, excellent service, and nice atmosphere at Tautogs. This is sort of a hipster joint in a divey looking old house that’s only a few blocks from the beach but light years apart from the standard tourist-trap ambiance of so many of the other joints on the strip. We had crab nachos, she-crab soup, and a special«crab stack» entrée(yea i guess we wanted crab) and all of these dishes hit the mark head-on. The crab stack(softshell crab, crab cake, crab meat, on a bed of canneloni beans) was especially good, prepared with balance and a delicate touch. The service was attentive and friendly and the check didn’t bankrupt me. Thanks Tautogs!

We tried several items. The bowl of She Crab soup. The original Corby’s crab dip and the tuna sandwich. The crab dip was AWESOME, I would prefer it with pita chips. OMG the She Crab soup wasn’t quite Charleston SC but it was good, served with oyster crackers, I asked for croutons. It was really good with the ceoutons. The yellow fin tuna sandwich, that I ordered medium, but came well. It was a bit bland. Need more seasoning. It came with a side of Old Bay dusted hand chips I guess those would have added more flavor of I had eaten more.

Amazingly fresh seafood… Crab legs were full and heavy… Oysters were fresh. A very intimate place with nooks to site with your special someone by candlelight. Outdoor seating, great service

A bit of a check in. This was a second visit several months after the first one. It’s still okay, its a bit pricey as far as I am concerned(for what you get and I am a bit cheap). No major complaints though. I do want to say overall that I had the distinct feeling that it was«spring training». You know not the same actual players that will be there in June, not the same effort. Take for example the Orioles. This season they were 0 and whatever in spring season-they have started the real season at a roaring pace of 7 – 1. Perhaps Tautog’s has that same next gear that they ramp up to. As it was on this vist eveyrhting was just a bit off, sort of like watching guys in sweats that are already multi-millionaires and just don’t quite care how things turn out duirng these early nights at the park.

Awesome little restaurant off the beaten path of the strip. If you weren’t paying attention, you would walk/drive right past it. The atmosphere is perfect. Started off with a drink at the bar, little on the snug side but makes for a intimate old school type bar feel. Ordered the stuffed flounder in a bag, lacked taste/flavor but still enjoyable. Our waiter was very chill and was himself, which for me is refreshing. I will definitely be back the next I am at the beach.

My husband and I decided to go here the last night of our trip in Virginia Beach and are glad we did. The place is kind of small and you would have no idea it’s a restaurant because it’s in a small house. However, that’s what makes it unique. We had to wait about 30 minutes before we got a table(the place is small) but it was a nice day so we didn’t care. As my main meal I got the appetizer crab nachos with the white salsa on the side. The white salsa is pretty much a ranch dressing with a bit of spicy. It was so good and was certainly unique. The crab was fresh and, though there wasn’t a lot on there, it was nice having nachos without your standard beef or chicken. My husband got the Mediterranean Pasta with olive oil and garlic sauce and shrimp. He was very glad that he got it and said it was the best pasta he has ever eaten. The only drawback to this restaurant is that it’s not really kid friendly. There is no children’s menu(we had to get our two boy’s the appetizer flatbread pizza). However, the pizza was amazing and my boy’s loved it. The service was good and our waitress was rushed but very nice. I would definitely go here again!

A colleague and I stopped in for dinner after the fella at the local Courtyard recommended Tautog as a good place for seafood. We both tried the appetizer special — some sort of sautéed shark, which turned out to be wonderfully seasoned and perfectly cooked. We followed that up with a couple of different dishes(both fish) that were also quite good. Great, cozy ambiance, and a casual but knowledgeable staff make this a great pick for a meal. I would definitely return!

5 stars for the ambiance, delicious food, and service– This restaurant is actually a little house and super adorable. It was packed on a Friday night but we somehow managed to get the last table. I had three appetizers. A ½ dozen raw oysters, a bowl of the she-crab soup(which, is not made with female crabs), and the crab nachos. The soup was rich, creamy, and crabby. Yummy. The crab nachos I thought were pretty void of crab meat and I wouldn’t get those again. The oysters were really good. I also tried the crab dip and a couple oysters rockefeller. Both the dip and oysters were good and definitely table shareable items. Also, the small Caesar salad is quite a large size for their ‘small’. We had great service and I’ll be back to try the key lime pie!
