I told myself I wasn’t gonna come here again after the«bland tasting carne asada tacos» so I decided to give this place another try and let me tell you this place has changed a lot from the food to the scenery. Free chips and salsa were pretty good, salsa was nice and spicy just like salsa should be. After demolishing chips and salsa, I ordered the Carne Asada Nachos. First bite was to die for it was very satisfying! Tasted like heaven. Not quite to my California taste buds but it was pretty darn good compared to last time. Server was on point with everything and had to refill my sons drink multiple times because he was thirsty and not once did he seem annoyed. I can actually say I may be back here again, their drink list looked interesting.

So this is the 1st time i had a bad meal experience here after about 30 plus visits. First the margarita chicken was dry and the burrito bowl we got to go was about a third less than usual. My sons steak ranchero was good according to him. The waiter was on point and very attentive and asking how the food, drinks were. The worst part was that the internet was acting up so we waited about 30 minutes more to see if it came up. I then asked if i could come back tomorrow to pay the bill and the manager acted like i have never been there. A new guy. So needless to say i was upset and told them what was the benefit of being a regular, loyal customer if you cannot be trusted to pay a bill a day later?

I was in the mood for Mexican and hadn’t been here in a couple years. It was crazy packed with large parties, but since we were a party of two, we got sat right away. There were many authenticities down to the dirty cup my horchata was in. I’m sure it was just dried horchata on the handle, but it added to the ambiance. The free chips, salsa, and white sauce were hot and fresh. It’s like crack the way they disappear from the table. Even with the whole place overflowing with people, our orders came out extremely quick. Faster than a Taco Bell order I would say. We had the El Rey combo plate and Sour Cream Enchiladas. Both with hefty portions of spanish rice and black beans. Everybody was having a good time there to include several birthday parties and big family get togethers. There were even token drunk girls taking a bagillion selfies. Ah, the memories of Tijuana. Definitely an excellent experience. I only wish they had wifi available to post this sooner.

This place nailed it for our lunch today!!! From as simple as the chips and salsa to the carnitas tacos, everything was delicious! The atmosphere was nice and private, the bar with unique lighting. The service was on point and attentive. The food tasted fresh and bold. Probably the best Mexican I have had in this area hands down!

Everyone expects Mexican food to be fast and good, but these guys put all other restaurants to shame with their speedy service. No joke, as we were sitting down the chips and dips were being placed. They gave us white sauce and salsa. Normally I stick to white sauce but their salsa was incredible. It had the perfect amount of cilantro. We were going in on our chips and salsa and the waiter never missed a beat. He refilled our chips and salsa before we were even picking up the small broken chips. Great service. The prices were comparable to other restaurants in the area with the exception of the drinks. The drinks were on average $ 10. They were good and strong. The food was really good. The rice was great. Overall I had a fantastic experience. The restaurant was comfortable and not freezing like most. The waitstaff was on point, really friendly and attentive. The entire staff were very well dressed, button up and ties. The management staff was present and regularly checked on all of the guest. This is the type of service that separates the good from the great.

Based on numerous previous visits at this location I would really give it 5 stars but since I’m reviewing today’s experience, I had to take a couple stars off. Disappointingly enough, my party of 6.5 experience a very slow service. I won’t let it hinder me from future visits because I do prefer Jose Tequila’s over Plaza Azteca. I just think since they’ve opened a new location on Gen Booth they sent all our favorite waitstaff there. With the exception of our waitress and the guy who served our food I did not recognize a single person in there. With that said, a feeling of absence and neglect was present. I didn’t quite enjoy my dining experience tonight. And for the first time we had to send our chips back because they tasted and smelled stale. She brought out new ones that was no better, just warmer. Bleh. For food order, I ordered the carne asada fries with no pico de gallo. It was alright despite a lot of onions that was unexpected. Boyfriend deviated away from his usual Arroz Con Pollo and ordered their Super Burrito. He said it was ok, missing something and wasn’t a fan of the black beans. Son ordered the taquitos and as usual that made him happy. Sister ordered Cabo Fajitas and that was served prettily in half a pineapple! My mom’s usual order of taco salad was also subpar. It normally comes out with a pretty array of tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, but tonight it was just lettuce, the meat, and a few sprinkles of cheese. Taste was sort of on the salty side. Maybe the salt that was meant for the burrito was added into the taco salad. I don’t know. Note to self: Just go to the new location for a more familiar feeling!

Oh man, this place used to be my jam for sangria and guac and chips. They make a KILLER, I mean KILLER sangria which you can order by the pitcher(about $ 20) if you have a group. Warning: their sangria is really strong and includes tequila so sip it, just sip it. As I’ve said, their guac is also really tasty. They have a fresh quac cart and make the guac at your table. You can specify how spicy you’d like your guac and if you like very spicy guac, they’ll absolutely accommodate that. I’m nine months pregnant so have been on hiatus from the sangria but we still stop by for chips and guac whenever possible. The service here is excellent and several of the servers recognize us and ask us how we’re doing each time we visit. Usually, the manager checks in with each table to ensure everything is satisfying. I really like the quality of services at Jose’s and although it’s a chain, it doesn’t feel like it. My boyfriend always orders tacos(some kind of meat, I dunno) and says they are good too. Vegan tip: there’s a few veganizable options off the veg menu. You can get the veggie fajitas, bean burritos, can probs order bean tacos and whatnot sans dairy.

Service A+ Food A+ There are plenty of Mexican style restaurants in the area, mostly taste the same with the same expected service. Pick a number on the menu. Eat. Pay at the door. But not here. Food is different enough without losing authenticity and is delicious. Service always goes above and beyond. The bar’s offerings are also unique to this area’s Mexican restaurants. Try this place out and it will become your new«go to» for Mexican cuisine.

This was my first time here and I have to say it was a bit overwhelming at times. They don’t seem to yet have a handle on large parties, but that could just be the growing pains of a new restaurant. The food here is absolute magic, I had the super Burrito and their specialty house tacos with pineapple(I know it sounds strange but you can’t really taste the pine apple) I apologize for not remembering their name but they were hands down the best tacos I’ve ever had. If I would have known they would be this good I would have ordered ten of them. The food is fantastic but they have one huge weakness and that is their service. They are critically slow at bringing your food, and coming to check if you need a refill on your beverage. On top of that there are so many people buzzing around you are never sure who your server is for sure. I wish it were possible to give them a 3 and a half because the food is a home run but they just need to work out the kinks in service, once they do they could be a solid 5 star food establishment and the best Mexican restaurant in the area.

We came to eat here on a Saturday afternoon. We got a table fairly quickly. We sit and order waters while we ponder the drink menu. We order a frozen peach margarita and then our food. When it arrives it’s on the rocks. We wait for our server to come back and he doesn’t. Another one checks on us and we tell him it’s not what we ordered. He says okay and apologizes. We assumed he went to tell our waiter so he could fix it. Our food arrives. No waiter. We finish our food and the second waiter comes up and asks if we need anything. He takes our empty plates away. We explain the drink again and he offers to fix it; but we’ve already finished eating and he sees that … So he apologizes again. Still no original waiter. Second waiter comes back 20 minutes after taking plates and we ask him if he’s seen our waiter so we can get the check. He says our waiter has *been* on break and he was covering. WHYDIDNTYOUSAYSO? Then he goes on about how he asked if we needed anything when he took our plates. Since you didn’t offer dessert wouldn’t the check suffice? Such terrible service and lack of communication. Why would you take a table to only go on break 5 minutes into someone’s meal?

I have been on a constant quest for excellent Mexican food. With few outstanding 5’s found and a host of 2’s…Jose comes in at a solid 3.5. It reminds me of a Chi-Chis. Nicely decorated and very clean. I went with a basic taco salad with chicken.(Pro tip… ask for the refried beans on the side. You will have a less soggy shell and more lettuce and chicken.) The chicken was tasty and the guacamole was very good. I found it almost hilarious that a salad would have exactly ½ slice of a roma tomato… no more. Seriously? A whole slice at least is required for a salad.(Read sarcasm) My companion’s burrito was very standard. The chili poblano(relleno) was very different, non-traditional but tasty. Big shout out to the waiter. EXCEPTIONAL service which earned a 25% tip!

If you want to feel like you’ve stepped over the border, stop in! The drinks are strong a the food has some great flavor. I especially enjoy the furniture for some odd reason. Service and quick, the food doesn’t take long to come out. The food has made me sick in occasion but that’s just my stomach. If you want to see your friends ears light up, buy them a Dumpster! It’ll loosen them up for sure!

Anyone named Jose Tequila is bound to have days filled with fiesta and bouts of amnesia. However, today, it was not for festivities, my friend. It was for food. The décor was fun and colorful. The music was a bit too loud. I had to yell at my family over the table who kept telling me they weren’t listening. It felt like home. :D The service was really good and made a light, positive atmosphere for lunch. We were met with a friendly host and served by a decent waiter. Now, I wouldn’t call this an authentic Mexican restaurant but more Tex-Mex. The lunch options and prices were decent but nothing to overly praise. The chips and salsa were good, typical of a Mexican restaurant. They also had a ranch dip that was unusual, tangy with a kick. I didn’t care for it. I didn’t get the guacamole that they make at your table since I was getting it as a side for my order. That was still good. I didn’t know what to order, and the server sweetly made some suggestions for me. We ordered the taco salad, sour cream chicken enchilada, and pork carnitas. The meat had a good taste to it, not bland like some boiled meat tastes especially chicken. Those usually taste like your eating cardboard … um, not that I know what cardboard tastes like.(Note to self: stop eating cardboard) I’d try to this place out. I know there are mixed reviews, but we had a decent meal and good service here. I guess we did get some festivities after all.

Lunch time and there were more guys working than there were occupied tables in the restaurant. From reading the specials board as I walked in, I knew exactly what I wanted and so when the waiter brought me the chips and salsa, I ordered the Speedy Gonzales. Little did I know that I would be here for nearly an HOUR by the time I paid my check. The chips were rather large, but the tomato salsa was nice and thick. That’s how I like it. And the salsa blanco — something I’ve only seen at Mexican places in the Hampton Roads area — was spicy and garlicky. Tasty. I was also brought a gigantic glass of water that could have been held about a quart. Fifteen minutes later, my very hot plate with Speedy was delivered. A smallish beef enchilada with a cheesy sauce, a beef taco, a pile of rice and a small greenery garnish that might have been a salad. The enchilada was good as was the taco. I added a scoop of salsa to each. And then… it got quiet. I wasn’t able to catch anyone’s eye. I was half tempted to just leave cash, but all I had was a $ 20. After ten minutes, my plate was taken away but that waiter never made any eye contact. Just a whoosh as he grabbed it going past. Then I did catch the manager’s eye and made the universal«check please» hand motion. It arrived a few minutes later and I had my card ready. If it hadn’t been so slow, this was a $ 10 «special» with tip. Instead, it was an $ 8 «special» with tip. I can’t say I’ll be back to Jose Tequila’s.

It snowed this week and I went here on a Wednesday night after Ash Wednesday mass at church. We were looking for a place to eat that served fish and my husband, mother and I were craving fish tacos. It wasn’t very busy when we got there at about 8:30 pm and we were sat at a booth quickly. Our server took our drink order within a reasonable time. My husband ordered the«tacos de atun»(ahi tuna tacos) and my mother and I ordered the«tacos de pescado»(fish tacos). Our food came out in prompt time(less than 20 minutes) and our chips and white and red salsa were refilled very often. The service and staff was really great and prompt and the food was also delicious. The fish tacos came with a mango salsa and covered and red onion and the ahi tuna tacos had lots of meat. Each taco fish had 3 flour tortillas along with a spicy sauce and special Orange/yellow sauce in separate containers. We asked me fresh cilantro and lime on the side and was also given that free of charge. Despite the weather being terrible outside, I would go back to this place again. The staff was friendly, helpful, and the overall inside of the facility was very clean and organized. For 3 people dining in it was a little bit pricey, but good quality of food for the price. The restaurant is spacious and decorated with things all over the wall. A very good first time and I will be sure to be back in the future.

There are lots of Mexican restaurants in Virginia Beach to choose from these days, but I put Jose Tequilas pretty high on my list. Quick points: —Seated quickly, order taken quickly and food arrived quickly. —Our server was great! Also, the manager was engaged on the floor, everything moving efficiently. —The food was really tasty. Some Mexican restaurants do a little better with the flavoring of the food, whether it be a little twist in how they flavor a dish, or better quality ingredients, and this restaurant was 4.5 star on taste in my opinion. —Oh, and nice prices also. Jose Tequilas gets a solid 4-star review from me, and I definitely recommend them!

My husband and I are always on the hunt for authentic Mexican, sadly we’ve been disappointed on 2 occasions with Jose’s. We really wanted to love it which is why we visited 2 times, but it just didn’t happen. The tacos were very bland as well as the chicken quesadilla which also lacked cheese. The meat had a funky taste to it unfortunately. They charge around 10.99+ for almost all of their dinner combinations which is pricier than most. However, the décor was lovely and the service was great. The guacamole(7.99 for their large order) is made at your table and is chunkier than most. My husband and I aren’t big drinkers, but if we were to go back, it would probably be for margaritas and their chips. They have a much nicer bar than Plaza.

Not sure if this place is a chain or not but I love it! I’ve been twice and both times, not disappointed at all! It used to be a steak place and they left the interior setup the same, just changed all the décor of course. The food was so good — they use the perfect amount of seasoning for everything — even their refried beans have great flavor. I’ve also tried their chimichangas and quesadilla. Delicious! I would definitely come here again. And save room for dessert — their churros are to die for and the presentation is so pretty!!!
