I absolutely LOVE Laguna Bakery! Their fresh pan de sal is amazing! While I’m not much of an ensaimada fan, my husband is and he loves it from Laguna, especially because it’s not topped with cheese like at other bakeries. The last time we visited Laguna, we tried their pineapple cream cheese bread and oh my goodness, it is fantastic! They have so many different flavors that I look forward to trying! Not only are their pastries amazing, their customer service is as well. They’re always very welcoming and friendly. The only downside I’ve found, their hours don’t seem to be consistent. If you’re lucky enough to catch them while they’re open, stock up on their pastries. You won’t be disappointed. Oh and I haven’t tried their food but it always smells amazing. It reminds me of my mom’s house and that is ALWAYS a good sign. :)

When I’m craving freshly baked Filipino goodies, I head to Laguna Bakery, a locally owned shop! Its hot pandesal, pan de coco, pan de ube, Spanish bread, ensaymada, bibingka, ube, hopia, puto and turon are masarap(deeeeeelish)! The labels list all the ingredients, which are minimal, and contain no preservatives! I haven’t yet tried the hot, turo-turo food that Laguna offers, because to me, it’s a bakeshop. In the last few years, the shop has been renovated and expanded, giving it a better aesthetic appeal.

Great Filipino Bakery! They make their baked goods fresh! The ensaymada was still warm when I picked it up! They also have a good selection of food if you do not feel like baked goods. My favorite pick, however, is the turon(banana lumpia). They make it perfectly there, and it takes me back to my time in the Philippines!

Once upon a time when I lived in the area this was the place for pan de sal. It’s 1000, and I wanted to get my mom some before flying out. It’s not even open, and I guess I’ll have to go to Red Ribbon a few stores down(their stuff is all trucked in). Come on now! What about supporting local businesses?! Have to be open for that to happen!

No trip to Virginia Beach is complete without a balikbayan box stuffed full of fresh hot pandesal, pan de ube, pan de coco, and pepperoni bread to take home. If you have not had fresh pan de sal, this is nothing to joke about! Think slightly sweet, fluffy and light bread perfect with a large cup of coffee by itself or if you are like my canned meat loving, island family… stuffed with scrambled eggs, cheese, and Spam(low sodium, cut extra thin, and pan fried till the edges get all lacy and crispy). They also have a hot food bar for those craving the Pinoy comforts of home… and the prices are unbelievable(at least by Northern Virginia standards). This is THE place to stock up on lumpia, they are practically giving it away for free here!

This place is a Filipino bakery for anyone interested. I did not know this however I did try their lumpia which was in this pancake like wrap but it was all vegetables. It tasted like crap. I thought it would have taste good but in a healthier way because it was not fried, but I was wrong. The wrap had a sweat taste to it however it was frail and fell apart. The sauce was supposed to be a peanut sauce however I didn’t taste any real peanut and it was also sweat. The lumpia was nothing but vegetables and tasted cheap. The baked good were ok, I had their mango and cream cheese buns that had honey on the top of the buns. Didn’t bother trying anything else because it all looked fairly easy to make. They were selling sliced dried french bread that were rock hard stuffed inside a container…

The hot pandesal is the bomb. Get it fresh and hot, other baked items also available. Hot food also available for take out or dine in.

Laguna Bakery is a small easy to miss shop in a strip mall in the Kemps River area. I’ve been a customer since 2002 when I moved on the area. It’s family-run by a friendly bunch of folks from the Philippines where I come from. The bakery is best known for it’s pandesal, a smallish dinner roll sized bread that is a popular breakfast or anyone food. It’s light, airy, and has a slight seemed to it that makes it perfect in the morning with a dab of butter and your favorite mug of coffee. I have mine with brewed at home Dunkin Donuts original. Recently, Laguna has started serving hot food for lunch. The selections of the cooked daily home-style Filipino dishes is ample for someone looking to get a quick bite. They have 3 tables for dining in. The taste is about average which, to me, translates to good eating. If you know Filipino food, you’ll be satisfied with your meal. Don’t look for ambience, unless you’re looking for that«back home(Philippines)» feeling. Even if you go there just for lunch, don’t leave without picking up a dozen of their pandesal…
