We’ve ordered take out from here a few times chiefly because of proximity. Each time has been underwhelming. Nearby Peking City and Foon’s and No. 1 on Shore Drive all give much more chicken or pork in each similar sized order. Li’s No 1 typically fills the container with veggies but very little meat. Also, the food is very bland — even when asking for«extra hot» on dishes like Kung Pao or Szechuan Chicken. Recently, we ordered Kung Pao but realized it was without nuts, so I called the restaurant only to be told that I was wrong. When I insisted that there were indeed no nuts, they offered to do nothing. When I asked if they could make it again for me and I’ll return with the take out container, they reluctantly said they would throw in some nuts when I got there. So, customer service is not a strong suit. We’ll be making the drive to Foon’s or dropping in Peking City from now on.

Li’s Saved the Day… Again! I ordered lunch/dinner for 20+ employees that had already worked 24 hours straight(and had to work another 24 hours) due to the snow storm in Va. Beach. They made my order in an hour, provided plates and forks, and added some extras for free! Thank you so much-will see you soon, hopefully under better circumstances! My team is forever grateful, and so am I.

This is the best Chinese Buffett I have ever been to. Always good always something new to try. The appetizers are good enough to be a meal. Fruit options are good.

Nice, helpful, and and fairly good Chinese at a decent price. Handled my modifications without any issue. We enjoyed it and this may end up being our choice in Chinese food when we are in town.

I think Li’s must have been among the original tenants in what we call our«Farm Fresh shopping center,» located in Va Beach at the corner of Great Neck and First Colonial Rds. It’s been serving pretty predictable carryout Chinese for as long as I can remember, and has never failed to satisfy and fill us up when we’ve been in that kind of mood. Like most take-out Chinese, there are a few tables inside if you want to eat in, but they’re as often as not occupied by the owner’s kids, doing homework during the school year, or drawing and playing games at other times. The oldest two of the kids are now helping in the business(in the front, not cooking), and it’s been fun to know them and their parents all these years, and to watch them grow up into very nice young ladies. So Li’s is a really good, very predictable carryout Chinese place located conveniently(for us) in the Great Neck corridor — nothing more, nothing less. Same small shopping center location, same«open all the time» hours, same menu and same prices as 100 other Tidewater Chinese carryouts. But once you’ve visited here a few times, and get to know the very pleasant and hard-working family members, it may turn into a place that’s a little bit special, and maybe a little better than all those other carryouts. At least we think so — we’ve never been to any other HR Chinese carryout in the almost 30 years we’ve lived here.
