I am in Va Beach for the Wave Devoted Conference. Came hear after hearing good things from 3 separate people. We ordered the bento boxes. Very fresh! A little slow but we had a 8 person group. We enjoyed it! I would definitely go back!

I love the bento box for lunch it’s a great deal and allows you to try a variety of items. For under ten bucks you can get enough food to feed your Buddha belly.

Our favorite sushi restaurant at home AND away. The staff is awesome and the sushi is even better. The food is beautiful, so fresh, and tasty. The presentation always surprises us. Try the gyoza and shumai along with the sushi. YUM!

AVOCADOISNOTLIFE Writing this review is going to probably give me a migraine but I think it’s worth it. How do I describe this sushi restaurant other than«sushi restaurant with sushi» I’m not sure so there’s my challenge. Personally, I love sushi. Well actually I’ve only had California rolls so that statement isn’t completely true. Anyways when attending this food buying and eating area be prepared for a relatively long wait. But the incidents that follow are the kind of material that makes a story for a century. I was in the 7th grade. I spotted a friend across the restaurant so instead of eating with the people I actually came to eat with I just intruded on her table.(Did I pay? OFCOURSENOT!) so anyways the cup song was v trendy around this time so I grabbed a glass bottle and started slamming it against the table quite violently. So violently that I caused it to shatter all over the table and all over our food. Having nothing to eat but a green glob of wasabi, my friend consumed the entire thing under the impression that it was avocado. Before her deadly decision she stated«avocado is life» and then sorta died or something. I had time to warn her but I am not that nice so I chose not to. The kind waitress brought my suffering friend water in a flower vase and I’m not really sure what happened after that. Avocado is not life.

I honestly don’t know why so many people are obsessed with this place. It is honestly lackluster. There are many sushi places close to volcano, I highly suggest going to a different one instead. The menu is not very allergy-friendly. They do not have gluten free soy sauce. The staff is rather uptight and does not like to be asked questions about the food. Most sushi restaurants are very open about their sushi. Not here. Don’t get me wrong I’ve gotten good food here in the past, but there are just so many other better sushi restaurants close to this one. Avoid this place and don’t believe the hype.

This is my favorite sushi restaurant and the place I first tried sushi! I absolutely love the bento boxes and have tried so many of the rolls over the years. I can’t decide on a favorite! The miso soup and salad with ginger dressing is so delicious. The service has always been great every time I’ve visited, even when busy.

Every time we travel we go to different Sushi restaurants. In all of our travels this has got to be in the top two Sushi locations I have been to so far. We ordered the Volcano, Tornado, Spiderman, Crazy Mary, California, and Philly rolls. They were all outstanding. I highly recommend them all especially the Volcano and Hurricane rolls. While the California and Philly rolls are pretty traditional to wherever you go, I have never had better than this location. We are off to try another Sushi restaurant tomorrow night, but I am tempted to just got back here. We will definitely stop here again on our next trip to Virginia Beach.

This is one of my favorite places. I love the selection of specialty rolls at Volcano. Always well done and at a great price(2 for $ 21 or 3 for $ 31).The plating is beautiful with nice attention to detail. Their shrimp ball appetizer is wonderful start. So sit back, relax and get ready for great sushi.

My wife and I figured we’d try a new sushi place tonight. We somehow ended up at Volcano after turning into a random shopping center off Great Neck. We ended up having a delicious meal with excellent service. First we started with Gyoza and the cucumber salad. Both were very good. The sauce that comes with the Gyoza was unlike most that we had tried before. The sushi was fresh and presented on a wooden ship with a neon light! We were certainly impressed. We enjoyed the spicy tuna rolls, but our favorite was the golden lobster roll! It was very tasty. If we find ourselves in the shopping center again one day, we will probably stop back in.

The sushi is decent, the ambiance is good and the price is reasonable. I’ve always had good, speedy service at Volcano. All that being said, there are better sushi places in VA Beach. They have all the common sushi rolls, but seem a bit«conservative» with the special items — there aren’t many special rolls and they aren’t that adventurous. You won’t be blown away by Volcano Sushi, but your meal will be enjoyable and worth the price.

The staff was very friendly and quick to take care of us. Sushi came out quickly and was good. Not many unique sushi combinations but has all the favorites. The presentation was beautiful and everything tastes delicious. Bathrooms were clean. Restaurant was immaculate. It was a Friday and we were one of only 3 customers.

Not a sushi fan, went there hoping to find hibachi style Japanese. Neither waitress not manager knew if their Japanese menu items were prepared hibachi style! Perplexed, so I settled for General Tso based on their recommendation. It was very good. Sauce was rich and tasty but not too heavy. Chicken was crispy. Came with a house salad with ginger dressing, good stuff. I recommend going to Volcano.

Slow, inconsistent service. My partner and I arrived at approximately 8:05PM on a Friday night. We had decided to give them a try because of the glowing Unilocal!reviews. The restaurant was only one-third to one-half full at best and some tables already had their orders and many tables left while we were there, so the flow of the restaurant appeared normal. We received our drinks and seaweed salad by 8:15PM. This was fine. The waitress warned that the sushi may take some time because they were busy. My partner and I said okay, not knowing what we were truly agreeing to. We did not see our waitress again until nearly 9:15PM when we flagged her down and said we decided to leave because the food was taking too long and because no one was checking on us. In that hour she did not stop to check on us once, did not provide any updates on our order, did not offer to refill our water, nothing. She was visiting the other tables around us quite regularly and did not seem to be spread too thin in regards to the work load. There were several other waitresses helping her. Upon hearing we wanted to leave she said to give her five minutes and she would have the food out. I told her we still wanted to leave but she insisted and so I eventually gave in and stayed. The food did in fact arrive within five minutes from that time, but we had now waited over an hour for sushi, which I have never experienced before. Waiting so long for food so late on a Friday night after such a long day at work for both of us caused a tiff with my partner and I so we decided not to eat any of the food and that we should, again, try to leave. Therefore, I cannot comment on the quality of the sushi, however, its presentation was beautiful. When we insisted again that we were leaving the waitress finally sent the manager over. She was kind, asked what was wrong, and told me she would not charge us since we did not eat the sushi now sitting in front of us. The situation was very awkward because the manager was joined by two waitresses, so we now had three people seeing to our table whereas we felt completely ignored for the past hour. I insisted that she at least bill me for the seaweed salad so that I could leave the waitress a tip, out of principle, even though her service was poor, and so I gladly left a 90% tip. Take heed to the reviews that mention slow service as I ignored those before I decided to try them out last night. I wouldn’t go here if I were on a lunch break or if I’d had a long day at work and wanted to eat dinner within an hour.

Food wise, the all-you-can eat lunch was an amazing deal and the sushi great! Though, it took 25 minutes before we were served. It wasn’t a busy day as there were only 5 tables filled in the restaurant and 4 servers. That said, the orders came promptly once we put them in. The only other complaint was the non-uniformity of the roll sizes. Our first order were nice and compact 6 piece rolls. Using that as a guide we ordered our second batch. We received huge 8 piece rolls. They managed to fill us up, but my wife and I wanted to sample others.

Volcano Sushi is the spot that got me into sushi. I’m no connoisseur by any means, but I appreciate a good roll and Volcano’s namesake roll is hands down the best on the menu. Their lunch specials are fantastic — for only $ 8 you can get two entrees(rolls, sashimi, chicken teriyaki, etc.) a cup of miso soup, a small salad, and steamed or fried rice. If you’re new to sushi or only eat California rolls, I can tell you now that you will still be able to find something here that you’ll like. Don’t think, just order a Volcano roll; you’ll never look back!

Came here with a friend on a groupon coupon. We both Got the dinner bento box. Had a lot of choices. Was able to pick rolls, sashimi, appetizers and items from the kitchen. We decided to share shrimp shumai and shrimp balls. My friend notes that The shumai were a bit small but they tasted good. The shrimp balls had a sweet sauce. She liked it so much she ate it on the shumai. We then got a chicken tempura roll from the kitchen which also had a sauce but was good. What’s with all the stuff drenched in sweet sauce? i could deal without all the extra sugar. We then got out main sushi dishes. I had white tuna over rice and she had spicy tuna w/avocado I believe, cold be wrong. Afterwards we finished up with fried green tea ice cream. Very nice ending to a good meal.

I feel their food is worthy of three stars because while eating the sushi I’m always thinking, «it’s good but it’s missing something.» The fire cracker roll is fried and displayed on the menu as spicy«hot» but it’s heat is less than the heat expected from Texas Pete or hot sauce. I have to add lots of wasabi to the rolls to get them up to expected heat levels. The spicy shrimp roll, again, isn’t close to hot. It’s also mixed with a noticeable amount of mayo and finely minced. I will say that the spicy California roll isn’t spicy BUT it’s the poster child of what a roll should look like! They pack their rolls full without a ton of rice and the avocado and veggies inside the rolls are always firm and extremely fresh! They have great prices which is probably the reason I go back from time to time but usually for my lunch break. Biggest issue they have is that after ordering you will wait at least a guaranteed 17−25minutes for your order, no matter lunch time or the off hours.

I got a bento box during the weekday lunch hour. Lots of food for a great price. I chose the spicy shrimp tempura roll and that was phenomenal, one of the best I’ve had. And for my second choice, I had the steak teriyaki, which was tender and delicious. Miso soup and fried rice was on point! Not sure what was going on with the dressing for the salad, but it was much too bitter(i think they got carried away with the pith of the orange). Service was so/so. The waitresses were running around, so they were clearly working but this lunch took up my entire hour, even though I made sure to ask for the check while I was still eating. Doesn’t matter, I would definitely find the time to eat here again, so delicious.

Been a while since I found a decent spot. I always judge a sushi spot on the freshness of their Japanese ginger salad dressing and sashimi because it says a lot about the restaurants focus on quality. This spot did it up and won my heart. The bento box deals for lunch and dinner are great. Individual rolls aren’t price that bad either.
