This is my classic go to place when I want to go out to eat and the people I am with are not that adventurous. Everyone can find something yummy on the menu, there are good wines and beers and the prices are affordable. I am most familiar with the Virginia Beach location although I have been to the Ghent one a few times. I love the shiny vintage look metal of the VB one, the inside is comfy, inviting and not pretentious and the staff is also very courteous and accommodating. I truly have never had a bad experience at No Frill and more importantly my guests haven’t either. It is def. my slam dunk restaurant of choice. Can’t go wrong there.

The food here is great, and what I love is that there are so many vegetarian options! The prices are really reasonable too, especially for the amount of food you get. 3 of us ate and we shared two desserts for under $ 45. Can’t beat that for a nice restaraunt. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the service is spot on. We will definitely be back again soon. I forgot to add… the homemade bread pudding is DELICIOUS!!! Definitely a must try!

Was not«all that»! Did I miss something? Whatever the hype is about this restaurant I missed, 3 times! So yes, I went 3 different times, once for lunch twice for dinner! Service lacked all three times, food not very hot or tasty though portion size adequate compared to cost. 3 strikes for me, better luck to you.

Cute little diner, we have to few in the area that are really considered this like the real feel of a northern type diner where they are really popular. Always impressive when a waitress or waiter doesnt write down my order, these people never get anything wrong. Verses people that actually write it down they almost always miss something. When we asked for a side of dipping ranch, she proactively gave us 2 flavors, i love this approach. I ordered the au jus french dip, which was pouring out with meat, and the dip was the right temperature to melt the cheese, it was great. Meanwhile my husband ordered the spots wood burger, which was juicy its on sour dough bread which is a great alternative to a bun, the burger fit perfectly on the sandwich with minimal waste or mess, although it was missing the bacon it was great non the less. Definitely will be back! Update just got our bill they deducted for the no bacon issue! Awesomeness we didnt even ask for this.

Wife enjoyed her burger but I did not enjoy my shrimp and grits, almost sure they used instant cheese grits.

Another delicious meal at a reasonable price. Tuesdays has become comfort food night night there and the food tastes just like grandma makes. The mac and cheese is impossibly good and the meat loaf has to be ½ lb portion. I just cant say enough good things about this resturant. Dont believe me? Read my previous reviews for this place. I will be back… again and again

I’m just so shocked that I don’t have a review for No Frill Bar & Grill yet, especially with this place being in my top 3 for restaurants! What in the world?! Well, here it is, ladies & gentlemen — this place is the bomb. Do people still say that? Anyway, it’s the BEST. You can easily tell by how packed this place always is, especially on the weekends, or even on the week days and nights for that matter. The outside will definitely fool you. When I first told my mom how good the food was. when we first pulled up, she said, «Yikes, THIS place has GOOD food?» She said it in Tagalog. But I knew what she meant. But of course, this place is now one of her favorites as well. When we dine here, she always gets the exact same thing — Calamari for our appetizer(hidden, not in the app menu, you have to ask for it. The only place you’ll see calamari on the menu is in the salad section) & she faithfully orders the Fish-n-Chips with a side of vinegar. Always. Since I already brought up the food, yes, everything here is not only delicious, but the portions are always so generous. My personal favorites and suggestions are: calamari(so tender, and the sauce is amazing), the Crab Cake sandwich with fries — to die for. The dinner platter is just as amazing, especially if you’re super hungry– you get two sides. I also love their BBQ sandwich and the Shrimp Po Boy. Oh goodness, can’t forget their Chili & delicious corn bread. Seriously, I could go on. But again, these mentioned are my favorites. My boyfriend always orders the Spotswood salad; he loves it! Staff is always friendly, courteous, helpful, and pretty efficient; I’ve never had a bad experience. Try to come at an off time if you don’t want to wait. If I could, I would definitely dine here once a week! It’s that amazing. Such a fan of this location. :) P. S. Checked in tonight, I became the Duchess as of 12÷5÷2015. BF checked in, and he became the Duke. So he took my title away! But still, match made in heaven. haha.

This review will be short and sweet because of time constraints. Food was very good. I had the Reuben with fries and my wife had a Gyro with cole slaw. The courtesy pickles was crunchy and flavorful. The sandwiches arrived at the table hot and presentation was very nice. My Reuben had ample amount of meat. I asked for extra 1000 island because of the quantity of meat and sauerkraut. The sandwich was AWESOME! My wife seemed happy with her Gyro but I can’t give you a thorough review because she wouldn’t let me try it. Petra was a phenomenal server. She was attentive and made recommendations which we followed and couldn’t be more happy with them. I will eat here again and hope to get placed in Petra’s section. Thank you Petra.

Service was excellent ! We were in post workout gear and the waitress Taylor was very friendly regardless looks like 50 diner outside very nice inside! Food was amazing, here for Sunday brunch had French toast plate with added 2 poached eggs best I’ve had! Sausage was GREAT, hubby had chicken and biscuits and said this is his new favorite breakfast spot and he is picky! Definitely give a try

The outside of this place looks like a 50’s diner, but when you come inside it’s like an Applebee’s or TGIFriday’s with a half bar, dim lighting, and occasional flair. The hostess ended up being our waitress, she was competent enough taking our orders and able to answer questions about which foods had certain things in them. But she was wrong about mine. It wasn’t until salad and appetizers that she was back at the table saying there were in fact onions in the thing I’d ordered. I haphazardly changed my mind to something else, I was disappointed that it turned out just like an appetizer I’d ordered. We got the tuna sashimi and some buffalo shrimp for apps. I liked the sashimi, but it wasn’t a very big portion(especially not for a group). The buffalo sauce on the shrimp was oily/waxy and the shrimps had been breaded and sauced with their tails on. We found that out after we bit into them. The tuna sashimi was very similar to the tuna pita I ordered. I was bummed by the boring pita bread and tasteless veggies. Luckily I ordered the tuna medium rare and used the sauce left over from the sashimi. My friend’s tuna was supposed to be medium but could have been bounced off the table. Another in my group tried the chili, she didn’t like that it was essentially beans and tomatoes in sauce, she wanted a soup like chili. The cornbread was straight out of the box and super boring. She liked the crabcake, but had to wait a long time for the waitress to come back with some hot sauce. Glad we tried the place, but won’t be back.

Awesome! Had the London broil pita! Tasty! Cool atmosphere! Good service. It looks like a diner on the outside, real nice on the inside. Great lunch!

Had the Cali Reuben and it was amazing. The portion is a little large, but I’m not complaining about that at all. Our waiter, Sage, provided great service and even accommodated every request we asked for. If you’ve read my reviews, the attitude of the staff means a lot to me. It means that morale is high, and therefore, generates great customer service. The hostess had a serious RBF every time she had to clean/wipe a table… it was just not a pleasant look. Overall, I’ll visit again!!!

The shrimp and grits dish was very soupy and the grits were bland. I exchanged my order for the shrimp poboy. The shrimp and the sauce was delicious, but it wasn’t a practical sandwich. The bread was really thick and bulky. I ended up just eating the shrimp with the sauce and fries. I ordered the Thunder Chocolate cake to go and it was average. It was a small portion and not all that great. I was definitely disappointed. The chocolate cake from the branch in Norfolk was much bigger and more tasty.

So, I’ve been doing the Whole30 diet the past couple of weeks. Means I can’t really have any grains, dairy or sugars, but I can have potatoes if they are not processed. I asked if their fries are hand-cut/natural, but waitress said they are frozen fries. So, having potatoes for a side was not at option here. There wasn’t many options for me other than a salad. The wife convinced me to order the Greek salad with grilled tuna on top. The salad was big, so I think you get what you paid for. The tuna was cooked well and flavored nicely. The salad itself seemed like there was a lot going on. Lots a flavors coming from roasted red peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, pepperoncini and olives. Yet, I wouldn’t say all those flavors go together at the same time. You might not even need to use any dressing. I’m not really a salad person to begin with, but I would try a different salad next time(that’s if I had to order one!).

Pretty slow when we arrived were seated right away. We had a patient waiter who answered all our questions about the specials, kids meals(how many chicken fingers to an order), drink specials and potato salad versus coleslaw. Food arrived hot and tasty! No complaints! Drinks refilled regularly!(That always makes me happy) We we excited to see Carnegie Deli cheesecake as we have built an appreciation for it!(Lol, I was so happy to see it I didn’t snap that picture) It came with a side of chocolate syrup and caramel sauce! YUM!

Two visits. Same order. Take-out. Dine-in. I’ve passed by this place for years and never ventured in. I suppose I didn’t think they’d have anything I’d love. I was pretty much starving when I pulled up into the lot, pulled up Unilocal and perused reviews and the menu before walking in. I waited about 2 minutes to be acknowledged and was then directed to the bar to place my to-go order. With the dessert menu staring me in the face I of course needed to get something even if I didn’t need it. the Buffalo Shrimp which I have never had anywhere before were delicious. VERYHOT! But then again I’ve never ordered anything buffalo before so this was a very new experience to me. The shrimp the large butterfly shrimp. Great texture. Breaded and buffalo soaked just enough. I sat in my livingroom declaring that I wouldn’t order it again, not because it wasn’t good, I’m just not a fan of hot. The Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée was delicious. Something I definitely would order again. I’ve never ordered Crème Brûlée to-go before so I was wondering what I would see in my Styrofoam dish. Still pretty. Large and flat which was new to me because I’ve always had mine served in a deeper dish of a smaller diameter. The top was perfectly crispy. Delicious. Creamy. And there was an insanely large amount of whipped cream in accompaniment. Dine-in. Thinking I for sure need to try something different. At least a different dessert. The waitress recommends the coconut cake FYI. I contemplated all of the dessert offerings but ultimately I wanted to know if the Crème Brûlée was served the same as a dine-in order and it was! I love the vanilla bean specks peeking through at the bottom as I swiped each bite. Not nearly as much whipped cream here. yes. Again I ordered the buffalo shrimp. Still yummy. Very nice presentation. What I don’t like is those beans and corn mixture that come with it. They can keep that, Bring a jacket. It’s cold.

We came to va beach this weekend for a little weekend getaway and for our first night we were looking for some good American fare. After perusing Unilocal we settled on No Frills Grill. It’s a Friday night and technically still the«off season» but this place was PACKED! but despite that, the two of us got a table within 10 – 15 minutes. We started with the chicken nachos and they were really good! it seems like a weird thing to say, but I wish there were more chips. there were tons of toppings and we ended up eating the nachos with a fork. Ha. As Richmonders, we were very excited to see Legend and Hardywood on tap at the bar! I ordered the shrimp po boy and it was so good! the remoulade sauce was excellent. I got the crinkle cut fries as my side and they were just ok. My boyfriend got The Spotswood Melt which is a burger with swiss, American cheese, onions, and bacon on sourdough bread. that was really good too! again, he got the crinkle fries. They have a happy hour 4 – 6 Monday-Friday and it looked like a good deal! they have $ 3 wells an $ 3 glasses of wine. The service was good too — the restaurant definitely lived up to the name; hearty portions of delicious, «no-frills» food.

Always enjoy coming here. I am having the French Dip with a house salad and spicy ranch dressing. Eating the salad right and will check back in later… My daughter always orders the shrimp po boy and she lives it. My wife had the salmon and she says it was okay but could have been season some more. I had the French Dip bit without the onions. It was very good but I could have wished it was larger in size. I guess I was just really hungry today? Au Jues… let me say I could have drank the whole cup of it and ordered another to go with my sandwich. It was just that good.
