Went here for a quick lunch. The food was good, a little confusing to order because it is partly a retail store. The food came fast and was very tasty. Was definitely better for adults, we had our kids with us and regretted not going somewhere cheaper. It was very expensive.

Sandwiches are good and they offer gluten free bread. However, the service left more to be desired. The individual taking the sandwich order looked like she hated working there and was ready to go home. She never cracked a smile and just seemed annoyed that we were perusing through the menu as it was our first time. The food is overpriced and the design/layout of the store is really confusing. You walk in to the register only to stand awkwardly until you are told to go to the side and order your food. You would think that they would try to make it a little more user friendly by putting some signs up or something. Would have given this place a higher rating but the customer service just created a negative atmosphere.

This is my #1 go-to for lunch when I’m in the area. The sandwiches and salads are awesome, and there are plenty of great choices so everyone in large groups feels satisfied. I tend to try something new each time, but the pulled pork, club, and beach chicken salad all stand out in my mind as hits. If you’re in Va Beach, local our tourist, you definitely should plan for a lunch here.

I ordered their Pungo boxed lunch and the sandwich, if you call it that, was sad and almost pathetic. The service was ideal but I’m only reviewing the food. I was disappointed when I opened my Pungo pulled pork sandwich, it was small and I mean small. Which I thought was odd because everyone around me had normal or larger sized wraps, salads etc and I had a small dinner roll, soggy with pulled pork and bbq sauce on the side(probably to keep the roll from getting soggier). My coleslaw on the side came in a container that was the same size as my bbq sauce which wasn’t a side but a bite of coleslaw. I was expecting more based on everyone else’s food around me and and kinda jealous because it only took 3 bites my Pungo Pulled Pork was gone. Thankfully, it was a boxed lunch which meant I had snacks for later(chips and a dessert) and sadly my lemon bar was bigger than the pulled pork sandwich(yes, that’s how small it was).

I just cannot justify spending over $ 11 on a 7inch sandwich no matter how good it is. Don’t get me wrong image bread tastes pretty fresh and the ingredients blend very well together but at that price it should come with a side and a drink. I don’t think I’ll be going back unless they’re having some sort of 30−50% of deal.

I always enjoy sitting at Taste’s big farmhouse style table and having a quick bite to eat with friends. The décor is bright and cheery, the sandwiches are yummy and they have a good selection of cold bottled drinks. I usually go for a random root beer but they also have wine and such. I also like trying whatever snack they have on sample that day. I never remember to go and get it, but I know if you go after 4 pm you can buy wrapped sandwiches and salads for 50% off.

I really pulled away from coming here after they expanded. I felt like the service went downhill and the sandwiches got smaller. Was in the area today and stopped by for carry out. My sandwich(The Lafayette) was awesome! Taste has definitely moved back up a notch for me!

Yes, it is pricey. Yes, the ordering is confusing. But, the food is amazing and I will always come back. I love how the soup menu changes often, the Peter’s pick is always quite tasty and that value is great! I am slowly working my way through the menu, so good thing Taste is here to stay.

I’ve driven past this location hundreds of times. I recall being unimpressed with my only«Taste Unlimited» experience at another location. Well I was hungry and passing through the shopping center when«Taste» caught my eye. What the heck, why not. This location is very classy. Perhaps being located in Hilltop is an advantage. Although the location in the other city was nice also. This location has a large outdoor seating area, I believe it was covered. There are flowerbeds surrounding the outside area. When you walk in there are so many shelf items for purchase: nuts, preserves, typical gift basket items. They have 6+ gelato flavors starting at $ 6.50 a cup. Make your food/sandwich/salad/wrap purchase to the right. Head to the front counter in front of the door to pay. My turkey and swiss on Franch bread, with banana peppers and basalmic vinagerette was delicious, I took it home and warmed it in tohe oven because I prefer my sandwich warmed.

Great little well curated shop. We stopped for a hot drink and a snack today. Coffee was cold(it was 4 pm) but the lemon bars and snacky things were really worth the stop. Got something called«beach mix» with all sorts of yummy little salty sweet things. Be warned some of the items were a little bit expensive. Items we purchase in nyc all the time like Dave’s pasta sauce and dogfish head beer are $ 2 more than we pay in nyc, a city with some of the highest rents in the world. But i would go again to try the deli, get another lemon bar and skip the coffee.

Awesome salad n sandwhich place. They sell a variety of craft beers and wine. They also sell a variety of other local items such as hot sauce. I loved that they had real Italian gelato for dessert! :) YUMMY!

This place has a fabulous concept. Fresh, delicious food with a plethora of choices. The fresh black bean organic soup is just as good as my own home made! It’s summer but couldn’t pass on it. It was a black board special which changes daily according to what’s available. The menu is flexible since everything is made to order. My daughter had a build your own salad that didn’t break the bank, which can happen a lot with other build your owns. I had the fresh mozzarella and tomato sandwich on Italian flat bread and a dill pickle. DELISH!!! Glad to patronize a locally owned establishment!

I have been going here for over 10 years and i still love it. My order is always simple: The Hiltop on french bread with an extra side of the house sauce on the side. So YUM! The salads are great and any sandwich is gonna have top ingredients for a healthy quick meal

I’ve heard nothing but great things about this place, so one day I finally decided to give it a try. When I first walked in, the cash registers were right up front, however, you are to order from the side of the registers, a lite further back. There, you will also find the menus. Everything just sounded so delicious when I read their descriptions, but the Northender won, simply because it had both turkey and avocado! You cannot go wrong with that combination. Or, so I thought. I don’t know if it was just an off sandwich or if it usually tastes like that, but the avocado tasted a bit bland to me. I love avocados, and I’ve consumed a lot of avocados, but this one just did not seem right. The turkey wasn’t that good either. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and just say that it was an off day for the Northender. I would try something else at Taste. The ambiance of the restaurant is pretty relaxing. The dining area is similar to that of a café; tables all around, and that one long table for a big group or for people to just share seating with strangers.

I am a huge fan of Taste! Karen does a great job of managing this Taste. Love to stop in here when I’m shopping at Hilltop(which is quite often). The service and food are always great! I just got to experience one of their classes. My husband and I attended the«Bottles & Bites» with Patrick Evans-Hylton. It is a class on how to taste wine and pair it with food. All the food was from Taste and it was delicious! The wines were all local Virginia wines. It was a lot of fun! Looking forward to doing another one sometime soon.

Based on food alone, this review should be four stars. But there’s more to a dining experience than food. The good: like the reviews here say, the sandwiches are yum. We both started with the crab and corn chowder($ 6), served with a delicious French bread heal. The soup was zesty with nice bits of crab and charred corn. My husband had the Northender($ 9), and I had special #2-a spicy shrimp wrap($ 11). PB&J for our kiddo($ 4). Get a house iced tea — $ 2 with unlimited refills for a lovely apricot tea. Why three stars: Our food comes and I eat my soup first. Finally unwrap my sandwich and realize it’s the wrong one — it’s special #1, not special #2. So I take it back and said I ordered the shrimp wrap. The girl at the counter has no idea what I’m talking about, and walks over to the ordering side to look at the specials board. Then she tells the sandwich maker, who looks at me doubtfully and then skeptically looks at the order ticket. Yep, it says«special #2», just like my receipt. A few minutes later a staffer brings out the right sandwich and just sets it on the table. No apology or even a smile. Sheesh. Lids don’t fit water cups. Not helpful for kids. And we’re there an hour before they closed at 7, but the whole time we were eating, they were sweeping and wiping and cleaning up to close all around us. The ordering process is a little odd. Order one place and give your name, then walk around to give your name again and pay. I suppose that gives diners time to pick up chips, bottled drinks, etc., but it wasn’t obvious that’s how it worked.

Love this new location at Hilltop! Much bigger than the old location with the updated semi-urban feel. Super cool that they have a small bar with Young Veterans, O’Connor and Smartmouth on tap! You can even get growlers filled! With all the changes and new editions to Hilltop it is killing me that I don’t live in the area anymore. But it certainly gives me a good reason to go down there once in a while!

The make your own salad is gigantic. I doubt anyone can eat it in one sitting. I ate less than 1⁄3 and was starving. I think I won’t be doing that again — it was about $ 13 and I def. ate my fill but there is just something that I can’t stand about wasting that much food — if I were able to eat it that would be one thing — but knowing that I spent $ 13 for over half a salad I won’t be able to eat gives me an eye twitch. Perhaps they should make it smaller and lower the price — you def. get your money’s worth — but it’s just something I can’t stand — plus lettuce and tomatos won’t keep for a few days as leftovers… sigh. I digress. Anyway — I work in Norfolk and usually go to the Hampton Blvd. location in Norfolk during the week for lunch with co-workers when I have a hankerin’ for Taste but since this was a weekend and I live in Va Beach I didn’t want to have to make the drive on a day I don’t have to be in Norfolk… sooo, on the website I went and I saw this Hilltop location. Met a gal friend there and had a good experience. The salad was very good — the dressing was good — and I am a big fan of being able to select your own ingredients in salads(I love this at Y Not Pizza as well) but as mentioned, it’s just too big so I won’t be doing it again. If I need salad I’ll either go somewhere else or I’ll get one of their pre-made ones. I’ll probably stick to the soups and sandwiches here which are AMAZING. This location wasn’t crowded, at least not while I was there, and has plenty of parking. I love the little Hilltop location anyway with all the shopping. It’s near The Melting Pot and Fire and Vine just for navigational reference. It’s the same fare as any other Taste but I like the«grand entrance» with the two big palm trees. Very cute. Plus, this one has a much larger area for parking which is a big pet peeve for me of the Norfolk location. I’m sure I’ll be back.
