I don’t know anyone who does as much to promote the local Waco arts and music scene as Benn and Penney – the wonderful pair who run Beatnix. From keeping the City Review afloat to tell you about all the cool stuff that’s happening in Waco to plastering Beatnix’s walls with local art, these guys are a real asset when it comes to making Waco wackier. And this is their coffeehouse/burger stand. Pretty much everything I’ve had off the menu has been delicious, from the Texas cheesesteak to the tots. My favorite item here is the Texas veggie burger(add extra mayo and a jalapeño cheese bun). It has a slightly spicy bean-based patty with grilled onions, jalapeños and cheese on top, and it’s fantastic. I still haven’t found a veggie burger I like more and I’m living in Austin now, for Pete’s sake. Service is awesome – they make an effort to get to know their customers and know to bring me extra mayonnaise because it’s the best condiment in the world and I need it. You can pretty much see into the kitchen since it’s all open behind the counter, so never fear – they couldn’t spit on your burger even if they wanted to.(Not that they would. They’re too darn nice!) They have great late night hours ’til 4 a.m. on the weekends where they start serving breakfast tacos in the wee hours of the morning. Many nights have live music or other events(open mic, poetry, etc., etc.). Shows here are small, intimate, and a great way to get to know the surprising amount of talent found around Waco. Oh, and no mention of Beatnix is complete without mentioning their coffee. This is my favorite coffee shop in Waco. They use a local roaster, and it’s a smooth, tasty brew. The espresso drinks are wonderful and really let the espresso itself shine through instead of covering it up with a bunch of sugar and other flavors(unless, of course, that’s how you order it). tl;dr – Beatnix rules. Go. Now.

After reading reviews, I took advantage of the Unilocal Deal $ 5 for $ 10. There is no reason from the Unilocal page that would indicate I would NOT be able to have my burger at Beatnix. THEYWERECLOSED. Since I don’t live in Waco. I am now going to have to fight just to get my $ 5 back. I wish I had something better to say. The site indicated they were OPEN. Ultimately, I had a very enjoyable meal at Heitmiller Steakhouse.

You can’t go wrong with Beatnix! The burgers and fries are oh so tasty! We love the subtle hint of rosemary in their special blend. Technically they are a mom and pop, but they are really more like the favorite aunt and uncle that you wish were your mom and pop!

A little hole in the wall with great food. It’s a order at the counter place, and they don’t cook anything until you order. I had a Philly cheesesteak, a little small, but awesome tasting. I would definitely go back.

Good, fresh food and a varied menu; there is stuff here for vegetarians, healthy people, and those who don’t care about their calorie count alike. The place is always undergoing some kind of remodeling in an artistic sense; you can find original art from locals scattered throughout, and the place serves as a venue for musicians, open mic poetry nights and more several times a month. Their food is all over the place, you can get anything from a fresh wrap to a double cheeseburger to funnel cake fries to a special tea. The staff are friendly and personable; talk to them about movies or music while waiting for your order to come up. The murals were painted by local comic book artist Robbie Rodriguez, giving you something to look at while you wait, and merchandise from local musicians and writers can be found for sale. Support the little guys and take a break from the monotony of a chain restaurant once in awhile; Beatnix is worth the stop!

Beatnix is one of the best Mom & Pop shops around… but«Mom & Pop» are the parents of that cool friend you hung out with a lot because her parents would let you stay up late, eat junk food, and play cool music around the house. I live in Austin and make it a point to stop and visit this place on the way to and from Dallas. It’s hard to find a business this well rounded, but they pull it all of well: Good food, excellent coffee, great prices, and a rad atmosphere. I highly recommend the liquid crack. It’ll really get you going! As far as burgers are concerned, the Texas burger is AMAZING, especially with sweet potato fries. Another thing I love about this place is the owners allow patrons to BYOB for events.

Another respectable burger joint in Waco and a pretty cool little place to hang out too. Any place with sweet potato fries will get my respect. Didn’t try the coffee. These people are real cool and down to earth. Bob S., what’s wrong with 80s soul? Definitely check it out.
