Fun is what you make of it. If you walk in with a ‘been there, done that’ attitude then chances are, you won’t appreciate Fuji. Any time I see a crowded parking lot, I know I have found a gem. Fuji offers a sushi bar, regular dining and a hibachi grill. I chose the hibachi. Much like the atmosphere of the restaurant, chef was comfortable, friendly and fun. The portions are huge and the service is great! I will be back. Oh! & Stop by the koi pond on your way out.

I’ve heard people rave about this place. My wife and I finally decided to go. I called to make a reservation, the hostess told me that they didn’t take reservations on busy nights. I asked what nights those are and she told me the nights that they’re open. Lol. I had no idea what that meant. So, we went that night and it was packed and a 45 minute wait. We left and came back today for lunch. The food and service was as good as could be expected. Nothing out of this world and the chef didn’t do any tricks outside of the initial ones before cooking. It all went by quick. Didn’t even do the onion volcano. I was a little disappointed but that might be cut short because it was just lunch. The lunch menu is nice and was adequately priced. Not a bad place.

I had lunch there today with two friends. We ate in the dining area, not the hibachi area. The atmosphere is nice and the service was attentive. However, smoke from the hibachi room filled the dining room. The sushi I had was fresh but the rice fell apart when I picked up the sushi. Also, the fish was sliced very thin and the plate was chipped in several on the edge. That part surprised me, as in general the presentations were very nice. I tasted the other two entrees — just mediocre. Overall, it’s an attractive, comfortable restaurant but the food was very average. I hope Kuma reopens soon.

Another visit and another waste of time… Was told it would be a 30 min wait for hibachi… an hour and fifteen and were finally seated. Turns out my name was crossed off the list… when I asked they said it wasnt but it was just the wait. Are you kidding me? Who gets a seat time wrong by 45 min?! Food… not worth the wait. Save yourself time and headache and drive to Nami’s in Belton. At least you’d get to eat at a decent time.

This place has an identity crisis. Are we Japanese? Fake Chinese? Thai? Pei Wei? Panda Express? Eff it… LET’S JUSTBEALLOFTHEM. This is kind of like a Walmart of Asian food… One stop shopping for everyone.(However, I’m a conspiracy theorist that if you try to be a jack of all trades, you will be a master of none.) Lunch specials are plentiful. Have Thai, Chinese, hibachi, and sushi. Together at the same time if you want. We had a very enjoyable hibachi dinner here. One thing that sucks– they try to seat an entire section before the chef comes out. I think they do that to: 1. Keep from cleaning the cooktop multiple times 2. Prevent from repeating the show. This could fall into the«not in your favor» category if you are the first ones there. We ended up waiting quite long. The hibachi chef was very entertaining, fast, and friendly. He interacted with the kiddo and played little games with diners. Also, free sake shots from a ketchup bottle for all parties interested. Iconic onion ring volcano for the kiddos. Food: — Soup– 2⁄5 Is this just water with salt and two slices of mushroom? — Salad– 2⁄5 Crappiest iceberg lettuce I’ve seen in a salad. Pretty pathetic looking. Ginger dressing always wins though. — Fried rice– 5⁄5 Some of the best fried rice I have ever eaten. The texture of the rice is sublime. Never thought I would enjoy a fried rice outside of Chinatown that much. — Filet– 4⁄5 Not particularly flavorful but tender and cooked well — Sauteed vegetables– 5⁄5 These are done well with a good portion and lots of variety. Carrots, broccoli, zucchini, mushroom, and onions. I can’t vouch for the other stuff on the menu, but the hibachi was fun and good eatin’. Also, I could be wrong, but I recall hibachi prices being more expensive for dinner than what you see online. Worth a return trip if you live here!

Before I came to Waco, I spent 7 years getting my professional training in Houston and also enjoyed finding the best places there to dine. I vacationed in Japan around the same time. You can be the judge on whether I know my Japanese fare or not… Fuji’s cuisine is on par with Miyako, an often packed place I would regularly go in a very popular part of Houston. Fuji is a classy place with quality of fare that is well above average for Waco. It is the only place here I will go for sushi and is highly recommended.

Cool Benehana-style restaurant. Friendly and fun staff. A little awkwardly silent in the room we were in. Food was good, but a little bland. Had a fun time, though.

This is actually the first time I’ve ever written a review for Unilocal, and am only doing so now because of the irritating experience I had here tonight. I’ve been here two times: for the first, the food was overcooked and our hibachi chef did not equally split the food among the groups at the grill. We decided to give this place another try for a friend’s birthday. This time my boyfriend and I enjoyed the food and the hibachi chef was fantastic, however, the bill was not correct and management refused to rectify the situation in spite of the concern of the majority of our group(just under 20 people). We were charged just under 40% each for gratuity in spite of the 18% gratuity charge listed on the menu and on the bill for groups over 5. We are not opposed to generous tips, and we even regularly tip 20% at a minimum anywhere we go because we have both been servers and understand the importance of tips. We calculated what the bill was supposed to be and discovered that because we split the bill down the middle, they charged us both 18% of the total bill. It was clearly their mistake and our entire group noticed it, but management decided to condescendingly attribute the error to our failure to understand their complex«computer algorithm» in favor of charging an honest price. We will not be back.

Fun place to enjoy dinner. Their food(not hibachi) is mediocre if not subpar. However, their hibachi is really yummy. Not quite to the standard of Benihana and Jinbeh, but is good for a Waco restaurant where bigger name establishments are not as widespread.

Fuji is one of the very rare Asian dining selections in Waco. It’s obviously a very popular option for college students on their birthdays. The biggest attraction here is obviously the cooked in front of you food on the grill. However, if you do not get to sit there and sit at the normal dining area, I HIGHLY recommend that you do not order from the hibachi menu. First off, it’s expensive and low quality. We ordered shrimp tempura appetizer, and when it got here, you can tell right away that it isn’t made in the kitchen. It looked like it came out of a box from the frozen section of sam’s club and HEB. The shrimp tempura sauce was not your standard tempura sauce. The sauce was extremely sticky and way too sweet. Then our entrees came. We ordered shrimp and scallop, steak and salmon, and steak and shrimp. It was over seasoned, over cook, and not fresh at all. The salmon and scallop was way too tough to eat, and I had a hard time finishing. Every entrée was about $ 25-$ 26. You’re obviously paying mostly for the entertainment on the grill. Every entrée also came with soup, salad, and white/fried rice, which isn’t hard to mess up. As for the service, it was very slow. He only had 3 tables, yet forgot t refill our waters, give us our lemons, and give us our sauce and plates. It was just awkward. I absolutely have no idea as to whether or not to return to Fuji. We will see.

Went here for dinner on June 30, 2015. We had the hibachi, I had the filet and scallops, my coworker had shrimp and scallops. The miso soup was bland. My coworker was polite and said the flavor was light… I said it had no flavor and she laughed, but agreed. The salad was fine. The filet was not medium rare, but more like medium. But it was hard to tell since it was bombarded with way too much teriyaki sauce. In fact all the food had the same taste… they need to learn that salt and pepper is all that is needed sometimes. The cook had finished giving everyone their food at our table before he realized that he gave away all of my coworkers shrimp to the rest of the table. Then he had to request more shrimp so he could give her the rest of her portion. Would I go back here when back in town? No, I will stick with BBQ or Tex-Mex.

Mediocre in my opinion but not many Asian places to go to in Waco. Food: –We ordered the edamame and I LOVE edamame but I was disappointed in this app here. The salt sprinkled on top was not distributed evenly so some were way too salty and some were not and did not have enough flavor(tasted like water peas). –I ordered the snow mountain roll which I don’t think is worth $ 12.95. Roll has 8 pieces but they are TINY. It’s like the size of the sushi you buy at HEB and the quality of rice seemed about the same too. There’s nothing wrong with those but I had higher expectations for sushi at a sushi bar. Disappointed again. –My mom ordered the tempura udon which was okay and better than the roll I ordered so we ended up sharing. I like the shrimp tempura it came with. –My sister ordered the seafood udon and she enjoyed her bowl. Her bowl came out overflowing though to the point where it was difficult to eat without soup spilling every time she sunk her spoon in her bowl. Service: –Our waiter was very nice but pronounced edamame incorrectly. Mistake was made up for by his helpfulness with when I was ordering a sushi roll. He informed me on which rolls are popular and I chose from that list.(I just wish the rolls were larger.) –We had to ask a different waitress to close out our table because the waiter didn’t come back at all in the end. They were not busy so not sure why he didn’t come back out. Hope everything in the back was okay. Ambiance: –If you know me or have read my other reviews, you will know I’m not the biggest fan of dark lighting but that’s typical of a sushi bar which is why it’s excusable. There seems to be enough seating for the regular side & hibachi side which is good!

I usually like coming here when they have their lunch special mon-fri from 11 – 2. The lunch special prices are great. I like eating the sushi and sashimi combo in the dining area. The sushi here is the best you’ll get in Waco. I’ve done the hibachi a few time and it was entertaining and the meats and seafood were good, but make sure you come with a full group or you’ll be sharing your ordered meat/seafood with the rest of the crowd. Overall, it’s a good place to eat and I would recommend it to my friends and family.

Best place in Waco for hibachi and Japanese food!!! We’ve been going here for years and have tried all the others in town but this is the best. And I know of two similar places that have closed because they couldn’t compete with Fuji. Best egg drop soup I’ve ever had and love love love the Walnut Shrimp. We love this place and won’t be trying any others!!!

The best meal I’ve found in Waco. My girlfriend and I met here for dinner and were pleasantly surprised by the experience. We started out with the fried pork dumplings, which were solid. She had the filet mignon and shrimp and I enjoyed the filet mignon and chicken. As solid as the steak was, I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty the chicken was. Equally important, our service was excellent. Our drinks never went empty. Surprisingly, our waiter noticed that I wasn’t a fan of the fried rice and offered to replace it with steamed rice. Definitely a five star for Waco.

My son wanted to try this place for sushi because he heard it was good. Being from Austin and having great choices of sushi I was a bit hesitant and for good reason. They had a good menu selection but let’s just say the food was less than stellar and the place is not very clean. The calamari was uh strange… the rolls were unique but nothing seemed fresh. Might try the hibachi next time but steering very clear of anything sushi related.

If I could give this place an extra +0.5, I would! The service was really good! Holly was very helpful. I didn’t intend to get sushi when I got here but Holly informed me I could substitute seaweed for soy paper for any of the rolls. Crab Rangoon — It was mostly cream cheese served with sweet sauce. It’s like any Rangoon from any other place, except folded differently. The Bomb — This roll is apparently really popular so I decided to get it. It’s smothered in sauce, which I’m not a huge fan of. It tasted pretty decent though! Sesame Chicken — My friend got this dish with fried rice. The fried rice tasted similar to that of Panda Express. The sesame chicken wasn’t special either. Overall the food was decent. I would come again!

I would come here again, but my brother got sick soon after we ate here. We aren’t sure if it was the food from this restaurant because the rest of us were fine afterwards. He had cold sake which the rest of us did not have. Tough to say what the culprit was, but it was curious that he got sick within an hour or so after eating here. This was a solid 3-star experience regardless of the sickness. We had miso, edamame and tuna tataki for appetizers. The soup came with a spoon. I requested chopsticks twice, but the server did not bring them for me. The tofu in the miso soup had a taste which I was not accustomed to. We tried several rolls(Love, Waco, Green Dragon, Rainbow, The Bomb and a few others) and they were all good. The Hawaiian was my absolute favorite. I have not had a roll with coconut shrimp before, and it was absolute heaven. The hot sake was good. The volcano roll was not very good. This was the first time I have ever seen a sushi roll go uneaten between four people. I feel like the service could have been better. They did not name the rolls when they were brought out. Chopsticks were not brought when requested. Sake went unfilled longer than expected when we requested a second bottle. The saving grace were the really tasty rolls.

Love this place. From sushi, to coconut shrimp, potstickers to Mongolian beef. Excellent! Love the freshwater eel! They have hibachi, too.
