My wife and I stopped by for breakfast on a Saturday. Place looks a bit crowded but it wasn’t a problem. Here’s the breakdown of positive and negative points… + Prices are very affordable. + Big variety of plates for breakfast. + Potatoes are nice and soft. –Beans didn’t taste authentic. –Tortillas were thick and needed to be softer. –Chilaquiles were not crunchy like I’m used to. –Waiting staff not as attentive as needed. –Lemonade was expensive at $ 3 a cup and tasted old. –Chips and salsa were offered without letting us know they are $ 2.50. Our total bill was $ 16 and change. Overall an average place to eat. Not so authentic being that we live in South Texas where food is highly similar to our Mexican roots.

Rene’s is good, local, affordable Tex-Mex. I wasn’t super stoked about being asked ‘would you like chips and hot sauce’ and then being charged $ 2.50 for them(not sure if this is a Sunday ting or not) — but the service was fine. I’ll have to drop by again and try some of their ‘American fare’ — but if affordable is what you are looking for, give Rene’s a try!

We came here in on a Saturday night around 7:00pm and were seated right away. We opted for the chips and salsa appetizer and both had enchiladas. The entrees came with rice, beans and a small salad. The chicken was well seasoned and the sour cream sauce was perfect. Highly recommend!

I didn’t know what to expect when I drove up «hole in the wall«comes to mind! I think this used to be a Dairy Queen. But just like most hole-in –the– walls I visit this one did not disappoint! As soon as I walked in and saw I was the only non-Hispanic I knew it would be good! And it was great! Nothing fancy –just really basic Tex Mex with great flavor! The homemade corn and flour tortillas were amazing! There are baked goods at the counter — and I grabbed a few for the drive. I would have loved to try the breakfast here. The menu looks great. I came at noon on Sunday and most folks were eating breakfast. I loved it. Service was friendly prompt and great.

On our way to Disney, OK… we had to stop and refuel… Place had good reviews and really came thru… Everything was Hot, Fresh and Cheap… We Always start with chips, Salsa and Queso… Dont judge… yes its only 830am… Service was outstanding… Chips fresh, Salsa tasty and the queso was good, better with a bit of Salsa added in… Wife had the scrambled egg plate with Hash browns and Bacon… Eggs had a buttery taste to them, Score an extra point for that… Most places eggs are dried out… Big score on the hash browns for the wife… Why, she doesn’t like them at All… But she really enjoyed these(and I quote«These are the first Hash Browns I have ever Liked»)…They were crispy and a bit buttery in flavor… and then came the Bacon… Most places will cut the fat and go cheap in this Food Group… Nope not here… Bacon was awesome… Large, crisp and Bacony… I had the Migas Plate with Beans and Flour Tortillias… Wow the Tortillias were spot on in the Homemade area… Thick, hot and fresh… My whole dish really hit the spot, Beans were Delish… Needless to say, we left packed out before hitting the road… I highly recommend this spot for Breakfast!

I came back here after my favorite Mexican Diner closed(RIP Adrianna & Janette’s). The Burritos are inexpensive and authentic($ 4.25 for a large burrito with one meat and 2 toppings, $ 0.75 for extra toppings). By authentic I mean large, freshly made toasted tortilla, caramelized Chorizo; rich, succulent Barbacoa; al pastor that tastes right off the streets of Mexico! The basket of tortilla chips, salsa verde and salsa roja and cooked salsa are wonderful. I am also a big fan of their Chile Relleno. If you are willing to try something really authentic, ask if it is fresh, then order some tripas. After going a few times, the server highly recommended some, and they were sublime… Crispy outside like crackling, creamy interior, earthy goodness with a hint of funky. A spritz of lime attenuates that last bit. As mentioned in earlier reviews, the diner is not a looker, but is reminiscent of diners at the border towns. The friendly and attentive wait staff, and inexpensive authentic Mexican food is what this place is all about.

Visited Rene’s Saturday after trying George’s across the street(filled to the rafters with Baylor Bears fans!) and deciding not to wait. The place is nothing to look at, but the tables, floors, and restrooms were clean. The clientele was largely Hispanic, which I considered a good sign. I ordered the chimichanga. Delish! Hubby got a combo plate with tamale, enchiladas and a hard taco. I stole most of his tamale. :) The Spanish rice was flavorful and moist. The ingredients were fresh and crisp. They also sell pastries. The sugar cookie was thick, buttery and perfectly sweet. The service was friendly and quick. I would definitely come here again.

Stopped there today after reading all the good reviews. Hubby got the special and I ordered a breakfast burrito and a chicken fajita taco. We received the special and two burritos, one breakfast and one chicken fajita. Waitress never refilled our drinks. Hubby had to stand in line to ask for refills. The food was ok, typical Mexican fare with slightly thicker tortillas. Red Salsa had a tinny flavor. Hubby threw up upon returning home and has been visiting the bathroom every few minutes. We won’t be revisiting this establishment.

Loved the breakfast! Salsas were fresh. Homemade tortillas were so awesome. The staff is so friendly and it’s like a typical Mexican family restaurant. Not tex mex but really good homemade Mexican food. The chilaquiles are my favorite!

This place is a total dive, and extremely delicious. Home made tortillas and authentic ingredients come with all of their food. The waitress didn’t speak much English which did nothing but add to the authenticity of this establishment. Definitely worth the stop! They have enormous burritos for $ 4.75!

Great food, friendly service, and decent prices. I would have never stopped here due to the appearance of the building… But I’m glad I read the review and gave them a try.

3 of us. Had a fajita meat burrito, taco plate and chicken quesadilla. Burrito & tacos had only meat in them, nothing else. The tortillas were very THICK, we actually couldn’t even eat them because they were so thick. The meat, beans & chicken quesadilla were good. The quesadilla is made with a completely different flour tortilla, odd. Service is great. Soda is $ 1 per bottle. No refills. 3 to eat lunch = $ 30.

Authentic Mexican Food! I was the only gringo in the place out of 30 or so customers, so that speaks for itself.

Awesome place for breakfast! You get a large amount of food for very little prices! The food is awesome, and free chips too! They have a little bakery case for sweets with your meal. The staff was so polite and friendly and made the experience so good! You also get tortillas with almost all of the meals.

Very polite staff, amazing bakery selections, great food, great prices, and great coffee. Love this place! Initially thought one of my selections from the bakery didn’t exactly taste right, so they baked me fresh new ones! Love this place!

We were in Waco visiting our daughter at Baylor and decided to check out a place to eat where we haven’t been before. Not knowing much about the eateries in town we just happened to see Renee’s off the service road and my wife said why not? Good move hon! The place has a lot of nice local ambience. the place was full of people enjoying what looked like great food! So we sat down and were greeted warmly by a young enthusiastic waitress with a great attitude! She immediately took our drink orders and came back with them promptly! My wife asked if they still served breakfast and she replied heartily.“Yes!”. So I ordered the potatoes and eggs with refried beans on the side and a nice stack of flour tortillas! Man when it cam out it was definitely enough to feed 2 or more! The chips and salsa… green and red were really good! And the salsa I mixed in with my breakfast order which really gave it a lot of punch! Needless to say I was rolling out of there! Thanks Unilocalers for your reviews. I always check Unilocal before eating somewhere and as it was rated 4.5 stars based on the reviews so far I figured it was worth a go. And it was! If you’re in Waco give it a try! Looks like it’s family owned. The service is very good. The food is fresh and comes out promptly and it’s conveniently located to the university and off the freeway. They even sell bus tickets to Mexico in case you have wanderlust! A nice place!
