Signed up for Unilocal just to write this review. I’ve been a long-time fan of the Gut Pack but my new love is the Spud Pack. Try it with pulled pork and you will not be disappointed. The reason for my review, however, is this: I stopped by the Gut Pack Shak on Franklin Ave today and got their Monday special — grilled turkey sandwich, potato salad and a large tea for $ 7.04 including tax. I asked for sauce, pickles, onions and peppers on the side but when I got back to my office they were not in the bag. Not having time to go back, I called and asked if there was any reconciliation they could offer. They not only brought the sauce and fixins to my office but they included a cookie as well! Thank you, Vitek’s, your consistently awesome food and your great hospitality!

I base my star rating on the attitude of the guy that took our order. This(bald) guy was not very friendly and not at all like all the other friendly BBQ restaurants in town. We were from out of state and unfamiliar with the menu. This guy was very rude and condescending. Now the food was good. We had a large party and we really enjoyed the ribs and gut buster. However, I tend not to go back to places that don’t make us feel welcome. There are other delicious BBQ restaurants in town too.

This place has always been a favorite! They’ve grown and updated so much since! I couldn’t be happier for them! GUTPACK! YUM! — Brings back good old memories and makes me want more! It’s essentially a Frito Pie on steroids! Loaded with cheese, beans, brisket, pickles, and onions! I could probably eat this straight for a weekend, no joke!

This place is legit, in fact Matt Taylor is probably one magazine or Food Network show rating/article away from busting this place wide open! Brisket, chipotle sausage, and pulled pork were excellent. In fact some of the best I’ve ever had, and I know BBQ pretty well. Next time will be the ribs, I’m really looking forward to those.

OK, so this place is mandatory stop for lunch or dinner. GUT Pack is a requirement, as are the brisket nachos. Never have I been disappoint with the food or service. Owners are always around and are very nice people that are vested in their business and their community. Love the great family friendly atmosphere Great before and after football game days or any other event at nearby Baylor. Plenty of seating inside and out. Even on a hot Waco, TX day you can enjoy yourself on the large outdoor covered patio dining area. Great for large group outings or just by yourself. Must stop while in Waco!

Located around the university makes for a very popular place for the young crowd. Typical bbq joint. Order at the counter, food in styrofoam and amazing food. Roomy and modern. Wood tables and benches all around making it clean and spacious. The grilled turkey was smoked to perfection and the four cheese Mac and cheese was a cheesy delight. Loved putting my fork in the max and cheese and just seeing all the cheese hang from the fork. My hubby got the smoked sausage and chopped brisket. They were both good. They also had my favorite banana pudding and it was typical banana pudding. Not disappointing. Overall. Good and inexpensive bbq.

Get a Gut Pack. It’s absolutely amazing. Also, don’t you dare forget the banana pudding!

Visited Vitek’s because of other good Unilocal reviews. Food was good and the restaurant was clean. Our only complaint was the inconsistent portion size throughout our five person party.

Good meal. We got three different meals, all featuring brisket(potato, sandwich, and small meat plate) and all were very pleased with the taste. Mac and cheese and potato salad were also good. We were there an hour before closing and they were out of pulled pork and ribs which limited our choices. I would pass on the banana pudding if I visited again; it had an artificial banana flavoring and not many real bananas.

The BBQ plate with two meats and two sides was very good, closer to 3.5 stars, the brisket was tender but slightly bland, the pork ribs were very good, the cole slaw and the beans were tasty. My wifey had the pulled pork nacho plate. It had queso, pulled pork, and pinto beans on it. Was very good. I’d put this about 5th place on my ‘Q list, number one is still Johnny T’s in Pflugerville.

We had a pretty hard time finding this place via the GPS and had to call for directions. The food was overall really good when we got there. However, we were pretty disappointed that they didn’t serve cornbread. Maybe that’s something we are just used to in Florida. Overall very good!

Highly underwhelmed after all the great reviews for this place. Stopped in for a late lunch on the way through Waco. I got the chopped brisket sandwich and the brisket was very dry, the bun was nothing special and perhaps pushing being stale. The mac and cheese is just regular elbow mac and cheese, the potatoes salad was also not impressive. I ordered a side of turkey, to find out it was deli meat turkey, boring! Oh and taste like Oscar Meyer, gross. I was told that I should have gotten the gut pak, but I wouldn’t return to give it a second chance after being left so underwhelmed this first time.

Never EVER go here and leave without trying the gut pack! It’s so sinfully delicious, and it should make one feel guilty for eating it, but… NOREGRETS!!! The ribs were great as well!!! It was cooked to damn near perfection!!! So if you haven’t already… GO!!!

I expected Vitek’s to be awesome, given all the high reviews. Turned out to just be alright. The meat was really dry and nothing was overly amazing about it. They were out of ribs and pulled pork when we went, which is a bummer/maybe that’s the best thing to get there. The sausage was pretty tasty though, so that was a win. Might go back sometime and try the pork stuff or get a gut bomb. Otherwise, not sure if I need to go back versus some of the other places I’ve found while on work travel in the area.

In town for Baylor University’s family weekend we were in the mood for BBQ and decided to visit Vitek’s! This place is an institution in Waco and I can see why. On a Friday evening the parking lot was full and the place was hopping! We went with some good friends of ours who were also up there for family weekend and found ourself a place in line which moved fairly quickly! With so much business sometimes you would think staff would be irritated or flustered but we did not find this to be the case. Everyone was efficient, in control and had great attitudes! They were so busy they had trouble keeping up with how much brisket they had ready for orders which kind of slowed the line down a bit but I didn’t see anyone get upset. We just changed our orders to pulled pork because we needed to be somewhere. The staff was very accommodating and courteous. I had been here once before. It wasn’t as busy when we were visiting Waco for the first time in my daughter’s junior year of high school but this was the first time I ever saw it so busy! I can imagine football weekends would be crazy! But I have to say I was pretty impressed with the efficiency of the crew here. The smiles. The energy and the really good BBQ! A nice experience! If ever in Waco this is the place to try! They have a nice indoor dining room which had a private event going and a nice outdoor area where we ended up eating. Plenty of parking which was full Friday evening and pretty quick service considering. A full staff that’s for sure. They were ready for the crowds! Try the Gut Pak!

This was just so mediocre. The brisket was dry and sides seemed eerily familiar. By that I mean that they were Sysco or some other food supplier prepared product. The brisket came with basically a drizzle of sauce. Never been to a bbq place where the sauce wasn’t on the table or available without asking. My dining companion had the gut pack and said it was bland. There is better bbq to be had.

We ordered several things on the menu, but the only thing you need to know is the Gut Pak. I didn’t realize how popular frito chips are in Texas, but I sure do love ‘em. The Gut Pak is bedded with frito chips, then loaded with all the good stuff — cheese, beans, and meat. Onions, pickles, and peppers come on the side for that extra texture & crunch(which is essential). If I were attending Baylor, this would be a regular spot because this $ 7.99 meal is a steal!

So this was stop number 1 on my Texas BBQ tour(Dallas to Austin and back). What better way to start than with a guy pack. Its basically a BBQ medley chopped up and thrown on top of Fritos to make some sort of Frito-pie of bbq. It is really not much to look at, in fact it looks quite nasty with everything in one pile, but damn its good. Brisket and sausage with fritos, onions, beans, pickles, and maybe some other stuff. While I don’t think this will win any bbq competitions, especially compared to the fare I had in Austin, I sure would love to be able to get my hands on a gut pack after a night at the bars.
