Fantastic food! A little slow on the service, but the margies are great. Nice folks, and they have habanero salsa!

Monicos is the best Mexican food in the island and I’m consistently pleased every time I go! Good service and never have to wait long for food even when full restaurant. I order the chicken or steak enchiladas verde so yummy. Can also get one checked and one steak and it come with rice and beans and I love the sauce. good place check it out. The owners are always there working too.

Amazing dinner! Very delicious food and ultra friendly service. Had the seafood burrito with the jalapeño crema(get your ahi rare) and I was impressed. Also the guacamole and habanero hot sauce were to die for. Highly recommended by the locals and did not disappoint.

Good stuff. The fish tacos were delicious, great flavor, as was the habanero hot sauce that they gave us to go with em. Service was prompt and friendly. Only mild complaint I have is the policy(which they really seem to focus on as it’s right there on the menu with caps for emphasis) of only one free basket of chips and salsa. Which wouldn’t even be that bad except the basket has like ten chips in it and the salsa is served in a teeny cup filled up halfway. And they weren’t that great anyway. But oh well! The tacos were fantastic and it’s a nice little spot.

It’s that time of year again, family vacation time! We’re staying at the amazing Marriott’s Kauai Lagoons. We asked the front desk where some good Mexican food would be, and she pointed us here! Born and raised in California, so I definitely know the difference between good and bad Mexican food. So happy we came to this place, small portions, but SO much goodness. Good things sometimes come in small packages, right? Hah. Super yummy, loved the Steak fajitas I got and their SALSA! YUM! My husband ordered the mole, he ate every single thing on his plate, along with the rest of the family. He also ordered a drink and loved it,(I’m pregnant and can’t partake) otherwise I would have tried that pineapple one they have, that one looks amazing! Try it for me guys! Over all, great place, and amazing People who work there. We had a guy who wears a man bun, he was so on it, that dude should get a raise! SIDENOTE: I think it’s really terrible that this place only has four stars because someone had a bad day, and decided to leave a review, and felt their $ 20 was worth more than mine. I think it’s more terrible that they will remain four stars all because of one persons interpretation on this place. This place, and people are great!

We have eaten here 3 times. Twice for lunch and once for dinner. Each time food has been fantastic. The service is also great. If your looking for some Mexican while on the island of Kauai this is the spot. Margaritas are made with fresh lime and the ingredients in the food taste fresh a made to order. The salsa and chips great way to get started.

Amazing food! Growing up in California, I got spoiled by all the good Mexican food I could ever want. Now living in Kaua’i, I never thought I’d find good Mexican grindz again… But man… I just found my new favorite grub spot at Monico’s. The food– closest thing to abuela’s cooking. More flavor than you know what to do with. The staff– friendly, full of smiles and down to earth. The atmosphere– welcoming, relaxing, and just like the taquerias back in Cali. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. I’ll be going back again. :)

My family and I are vacation and were craving Mexican food. Upon recommendation and good Unilocal reviews we went. It was busy for a Sunday night so it was really loud(almost like a packed bar) we had to lean in and yell at each other the entire meal, which wasn’t fun. Our server greeted us right away and took our drink orders. She was nice and on top of her tables, even though it was really busy. The margaritas were decent, a little syrupy for my taste but not to the point of being un drinkable. However the chips and salsa were delish. I ordered a steak fajita, the wait time was minimal, just like the amount of steak. For $ 20 I expected a LITTLE more steak and 4 tortillas, not 2. I understand that this is an island so everything is more expensive but for $ 20 I expected a little more. Overall the service was nice and fast and the food was decent. It’s a nice restaurant if you’re on island and craving Mexican.

Excellent food, quality service, and a unique menu with one-of-a-kind seafood options make this place hard to beat. First off, I’m from the mainland and almost never have the luxury of enjoying fresh seafood — especially Mexican seafood. When I tasted the Seafood Burrito, I was completely blown away. Fresh scallops, ahi, veggies, peppers, shrimp, and a variety of other seafood goodness make this thing explode with flavor like nothing else I have ever had. In-house Mango Habanero salsa and a special white sauce heat it up and smooth it out at the same time. It’s incredible The service was excellent. Hawaiian hospitality at it’s finest. Up beat staff and solid recommendations made our visit delightful. I will definitely return next time I’m on the island. Highly recommended!

Customer Service — just WOW!!! That’s what matters the most and those guys know how to do it! Cathelyn(sorry of I spelled it wrong), you are amazing — friendly and respectful! Food very yummy! I had a burrito and it made my day. I recommend asking for some extra homemade sauce to add that special flavor :)

This place was great! We found it our last day on Kauai but if we had found it sooner we definitely would have eaten here twice. I had the fish tacos and my friend had the Carne asada burrito with red and green sauce. Both were great. The tacos were a little messy but that’s because they were loaded with so much delicious ahi. Everything on the menu looked great. We were there at 2:00 and sat at the bar. The bar tender was nice and the service was fast. It wasn’t busy at all. The inside was nice and cool with lots of fans. The chips and salsa were good. They served two types of salsa, both were good but unfortunately neither were spicy. I had a blended strawberry Margarita, it tasted great and was above the rim so well worth the money.

Pretty good quick lunch. My dining partner ordered the fish tacos with today’s seasonal catch of Ahi. I had the nachos with Carnitas. The fish tacos were requested to be spicy, and the chef entertained that request with pleasure. The nachos came out on a second plate as a buffer because the cheese was melted in the oven. Flavor was pretty good. Pepsi was served by the can, with a glass of ice on the side. I enjoyed the chips and salsa but was disappointed when I asked for more chips/dip and was told that the first bowl is complimentary but a refill would be a charge of $ 5.50. yikes. The food was good and the service was attentive. Other than prices being a little higher than I expected for Mexican food(but we are on a vacation island, after all) I was rather pleased with our food choice for the afternoons lunch.

We went back to Monico’s a second time on the way to the airport. We tried the fish tacos, seafood tacos(fresh fish of the day plus shrimp and scallops), seafood nachos, chicken taquitos. Kids had beans and rice and a mango smoothie. Everything was excellent, with exception of the taquitos, which were just a little bland. The mango smoothie was really delicious. One annoying note is that the restroom requires a key, which is shared between men and women’s room. We waited 10 minutes to track down the elusive key, which is a total pain when you have a toddler who has to go.

We came here right as they opened up for dinner. They sat us immediately, got our order, and had our food extremely fast! I ordered enchiladas, while my husband got a smothered burrito. Both were tasty, but a little bland. It was definitely good Mexican food and I would come here again, but it wasn’t my favorite meal that we had in Kauai(or even my favorite Mexican food that we had on our trip). I loved the chips and salsa though! Your first basket is free with an entrée order, and then each additional basket costs a few bucks. The salsa was so good! Service was great. We’d come again.

We picked up food here on our last night on Kauai. Ordered the chile rilleno, chicken taquito plate and large chips and salsa. It racked up to $ 38. Pretty pricey for Mexy food but it was worth it. The Chile Rilleno had a really good texture and flavor. The chicken taquitos plate came with 2 big taquitos, stuffed with lots of chicken and fried to perfection. The Mexican rice is not very authentic though… it’s not the typical Mexican rice you usually have at places like this. Chips and salsa were fresh and yummy.

Decent food, which is saying a lot in Kauai. Not the best Mexican food I’ve eaten, but not the worst by a long shot. A reasonable choice.
