We showed up ½ hour AFTER they closed but they still opened up and provided us with some awesome homestyle food and a shave ice! Got the kalbi rib special and the roast pork — plates were piled high and so totally ono! VERYGENEROUSSERVICE — will definitely be back(when they’re actually open).

Nice local spot with homemade items. Tried the lau lau and chili loco moco. Both were good, I’m not a fan of the gravy of LM, the chili was a little different. Plenty of parking and outside benches to relax and eat.

Talk about home cooking! Once you walk in this place you see right into the small kitchen and them preparing the food you just ordered. There are no seating inside here as you have to sit outside on benches. This has got to be one of the smallest restaurants I’ve ever seen. It literally is just a whole in the wall. The food on the other hand is very tasty. I ordered the chow fun and it was full of flavor with bits of Portuguese sausage and scallion. It wasn’t overly salty, but right on with the amount of seasoning. My wife had the pork lau lau and it was very good with large chunks of pork with little fatty pieces. It came with a good portion of rice and macaroni salad. I wish you could just buy the pork lau lau by itself with out having the entire meal with it. I could’ve had another one by itself. This definitely was a good find even though it was a bit of a drive from Kaanapali and even though the place is small they do know good food here and they have a pretty decent size menu to boot.

Fabulous. We had the Hamburger curry and Shoyu chicken. The hamburger curry was quite flavorful but not out done by the curry. The Shoyu chicken was«Fall-off-the-bone» good. It was so tasty; you could taste the Shoyu. Also, the musubis were outrageous. They have become hard to find on the island. And Chelsea and her mom have done an excellent job with this restaurant.

Super friendly and delicious. Family owned. Had the moco loco on their recommendation and it was really yummy. Exactly what you want if you want to try local food. Two thumbs up!

I was blown away by this little dive. I LOVE lau lau and Waikapu has the BEST I’ve tried. There was a large chunk of pork all wrapped up like a little fatty, juicy, succulent present. Plus a generous portion of rice and mac salad. We shared a little container of really good kimchi also. Eat on their picnic benches and enjoy the fantastic view while you munch.

I was searching for an Okinawan Sweet potato Haupia pie. This was the only place I was able to find. But little did I know that I’d also enjoy having lunch there. I noticed a bunch of construction workers in and out of this place, which in my mind is a really good sign. The food was delicious, and the pie was just as i would imagine it to be. simply wonderful.

Seeing this on some of my friends Instagram while on Oahu I told myself I will visit this eatery. This is seriously a lil’ hole in the wall place(IMO those are the best ones). We ordered 2 baked chicken(came with corn, rice and mac salad) reminded me of school lunch(in a good way it was ono btw), we also got dry mein(had better) and loco moco(my daughter liked it). We called ahead to order because like the other Unilocal reviews say they run out. As we got our food we decided to have a seat under the trees that had benches(luckily it was breezy). P. S. they take cash and card :)

It’s been about three weeks since we’ve left Maui, and I’m still imagining the taste of Barb’s home cooked meals. I catch my mouth watering here and there, and wish so desperately we had something similar in Washington state. Sigh :( Barb’s food is just amazing. If you’re close to the Kihei area, you have to just come here. HAVETO! THEHITS: (1) The price is great! You’ll notice going out to eat in Maui can get pricey, but her food prices are super reasonable. (2) THEPORKLAULAU… ahhhhhhh it’s so moist, tender, melt in your mouth goodness punched with flavor. Everything in the styrofoam to-go box just makes sense. (3) The Pot Roast is only on Wednesday… but goodness is it delicious. Again, the meat is super tender, and just pulls apart. The gravy on top ties everything together. (4) Baked Chicken was a great choice too. Moist, crispy chicken, with delicious gravy on top as well. (5) Barb also has an incredible view. We would get our food, and just sit in the picnic tables out back. Pure bliss. THEMISSES: (1) This is a selfish one, but I just wish Barb’s place was open on weekends so we could eat it every day when we’re in Maui: P haha! So not really a miss, more of a compliment. We miss you Barb! Until next year…

Small little place on the road to Wailuku from the west side. I’d heard about the Baked Chicken, so I had to try it for myself. Portions were good and the Baked Chicken was as good as advertised. The meat fell away from the bones and the flavor was incredible. My wife had the Lau Lau, which was also very good. One of my sons enjoyed the Loco Moco, while my other son quickly devoured the Shoyu Chicken. The mac salad was a little bland, but I did like the corn. Needless to say, this is a great spot to grab a delicious plate lunch.

Finally got the chance to try this hidden gem. My best friend and I went here on one of my days off for lunch. We were originally gonna head to Café O Lei, but the wait was too long and we wanted to try something different. I’m glad we ended up here though. It’s a cute, take-out restaurant that’s located along Honoapiilani hwy, right after the tropical plantation, when heading towards Wailuku. There’s quite a lot of items on the menu, but I settled for a loco moco, with scrambled eggs. The prices are pretty decent. My order came up pretty fast, and it came in a bowl, which is really different. We made our way to the outdoor seating, that is located next to the gravel parking lot, under a big tree. It was a hot day, no wind. And despite the vog, we still had a nice view of Haleakalā. Let me tell you, the loco moco was so good! The hamburger patty is homemade, but it was so yummy. I like a lot of gravy, and the put a good amount of gravy in it. I definitely would like to go back and try other things on their menu. I rated then 4 stars because their hours are so limited. They’re only open from 6 – 2, M-F.

I was working in Wailuku today, and early on today my stomach started to growl with hunger by 10AM(I was up for many hours by then). I really had no idea on what I wanted to eat today, so I went to the trusty Unilocal site to help me look for a place where I could get some good local grindz(that was close by to where I was working). Upon looking around Unilocal,I came across a placed called — «Waikapu on 30». Lucky for me, it was about a mile or so away from where I was working. Upon turning on the GPS to my phone, and driving to find this place, I park my rental car on a private dirt parking lot, then step into a small little store. This little store is like a small kitchen, and they also have two coolers where they sell drinks(soda, water, sports drinks in one cooler, & the other cooler had some booze items — beer). They also sold some knick-nacks, as well as some musubi’s. The menu on the wall was limited with a few items. I saw thinking about breakfast, but when I walked in, they only had lunch items. I saw the Beef Stew which caught my eye, and had originally ordered that…(only to find out the beef stew was not ready yet), so I went with plan«B», and ordered the Shoyu Chicken. With my Shoyu Chicken, you get two scopes white rice, an «egg mac salad», & corn. I also took a bottled water from the cooler. Total for my lunch was just under $ 11.00 bucks or so. What can I say about the grub? The Shoyu Chicken was delicious! The chicken was all so soft & falling off the bone… in fact the taste of this Shoyu Chicken was even better than the Shoyu Chicken I had at Jane’s Fountain this past Saturday. So why the 3 star rating? I will get to that gang… The Mac Salad actually had little chunks of egg whites & egg yolks mixed into the mac salad. The mac salad used very heavy mayonnaise, and if you know me & mayonnaise… well, I didn’t eat it, but I did pick at the egg whites & yolks in the salad. Corn… well, it was probably just«canned corn»…so you really can’t mess that up. Now for the part that totally grossed me out about my meal… As I was eating my Shoyu Chicken, I realized I forgot to asked the people at Waikapu if they served brown rice. I didn’t want to be difficult, so I just went ahead and ate a little of my white rice… upon eating my rice, I noticed a large puddle of oil on the bottom of my rice! YUCK! I suspect when they scoped up my Shoyu Chicken to my plate, they probably did not skim off the oil from the top of the pot of chicken… only to pour the oil into my plate. I was so grossed out about this… I only ate about a ¼ of the rice scope on the left side(see pic), as the lower half of the rice scope was sitting in a puddle of oil. The other scope of rice under the Shoyu Chicken was soaked in oil, so I didn’t even attempt to eat that part of the rice… If it weren’t for the oil incident, I would say a solid 4 for the grindz, but since I received a puddle of oil for my lunch, I had to knock off a point. Still worth it to check out this place… they have a limited menu, but they had some real cool local items like — 1. Lau Lau 2. Hamburger Steak 3. Baked Chicken 4. Shoyu Chicken 5. Beef Stew 6. Loco Moco And I’m sure they had other stuff, but those are a few items that stood out for me. This place is basically a take out kind of place, as there is no seating inside the store. You order your food, pay, then take your food outside to eat. There is like 8 picnic tables outside(adjacent to the private dirt road parking lot). The view from the picnic tables was SPECTACULAR! It was like eating, & looking at god’s country! So BEAUTIFUL I tell you! I will probably give this place another shot one day… but I will probably pass on the Shoyu Chicken. Lol!

Not for anyone on any kind of diet, but if you like sizey portions of comfort food and are cool with carry-out, they make a proper plate lunch. I doubt you can get a fuller more satiated belly anywhere in this zip code for $ 11. Can vouch for their baked chicken plate being a crowd pleaser. Anticipate some paralysis after this one.

A newfound gem for me in Wailuku Maui! Four stars for Waikapu on 30! You first have to understand that this store/restaurant is a *local* establishment. Very layed back, very casual, nothing fancy. They serve the neighborhood’s best plate lunches! They have everything from teriyaki beef to laulau and kalua pig to hamburger steak, fried noodls and many many more items. The also have a fridgerated section that has resh fern salad, haupia, ogo, pickled mango, etc. Hamburger steak: This plate lunch was good. It had the usual hamburger patties smothere with brown gravy and ric. Served with macaroni salad. Grade: B+ Fern Salad: One of the best tasting salads that I’ve had in along tim. Delightful fresh cut fern shhots that were crispty. Delightful! Grade: A– Fried Noodles: Ok I have to admit hat tis wsn’t one of my favorie dishes becasue the noodles wer very bland and there was little veggies and meats cooked with the dish. Yet, my family memers loved it so that is all that matters! Grade: B+ The customer service here is outstanding! Everyone is local and friendly.

My Husband and I are first timers here in Maui and wanted to experience authentic Hawaiian food. We found this place through Unilocal and noticed that it was very easy to find and get to. The ladies at the front were very nice in helping give recommendations on the menu, she even let me try on of the desserts that were right out of the oven. We sat out on a picnic table and ate! Very pleased with the food. Customer service goes along way with me. and I would say that this place nailed it. quick, easy and delicious!!!

You’re probably going to overeat here. The portions are really big in my opinion. I always get the Shoyu chicken. It’s so tender that it always falls off the bone. The chicken comes with a two heaping scoops of rice, macaroni salad and corn. It’s an amazing plate lunch. In my opinion, the food is reasonably priced and delicious. Once when I was there, the nice lady even gave me a free slice of cake because I brought in three friends. Pretty awesome. If you are not hungry for a large meal, you can always get some shave ice there. The have limited flavors but it’s still refreshing and delicious. They offer an option for snow cap on top and also vanilla ice cream at the bottom. I’d get both if I were you. Other items on their menu are Baked Chicken, Hamburger Steak, Pork Lau Lau, Saimin, Won Ton Mein, Dry Mein, Hamburger, Cheese Burger, Loco Moco, Chili and Rice, Chili Dog, Chicken Caesar Salad, Chinese Chicken Salad, Chef salad, and daily specials. All items are available until they are sold out so it’s a good idea to get there early if you know you want something that sells quickly. Daily specials are sometimes: Meatloaf, Taco salad, Luau Stew, Hamburger Curry, Pot Roast Pork, Beef Stew and sometimes the catch of the day. They also have desserts but that changes all the time. There are no tables inside the restaurant but they do have a ton of picnic tables outside. There is even a view from the tables. Parking is really easy here. There is parking right in front of the store and beside it. The side parking lot is huge. Overall, the best place for plate lunch in the area.

Little Hawaiian«bodega» store that packs a huge punch. Hawaii is all about plate lunches. So, order one of these and hit up a beach to tear into it. I love the shoyu chicken and the laulau pork… add the accompanying mounds of white rice and mac salad… Dayum, I’m GOODTAGO. No need for waitresses and that nonsense. Come here. Mahalo.

This was our last meal on Maui and it was delicious and loved how it’s a local spot with real authentic traditional Hawaiian food. We had the special of the day — beef luau stew and a side of pork laulau. Both were very good! The pork laulau was so tender and moist. You can eat your food outside at the tables near the parking lot.
