Love it here! We went on a canoe trip on the Pere Marquette and the Barothy was a perfect home base. Tennis courts, swimming pool, huge playground for kids. We stayed in the Beaver lodge and it was beautiful and modern. We will be back.

Attended a reunion of old friends in the Steelhead lodge… it was great. Price might seem high for the area, but for the comfort of the lodging and the gorgeous location it’s more than reasonable.

LOVETHISPLACE! This year(date of visit 8⁄2011) was our third year staying @ The Log Cabin. Think middle of nowhere and very rustic. The grounds are beautiful — like 300+ acres. They have: heated pool, playground, basketball & tennis courts, fishing ponds, bonfire pit with seating, volleyball courts, and hiking trails. The Log Cabin is as such: overlooking area with volleyball courts nearby, top floor is large room with sitting area & queen sized bed, ceiling fan, closet, dresser, and smallish bathroom. Tight spiral staircase to down stairs with FULL kitchen, small kitchen table with chairs, and family room with fireplace and sitting area. There is a large front porch and very large back porch with additional seating area lower down the back staircase and two birdfeeders(that draws all kind of birds and turkeys that eat the fallen seed). There are no televisions, telephones or A/C(they do provide fans). Cell service is ok — our Sprint service required us to be outside in the front to get service. The kitchen has: microwave, coffeepot(filters are provided but you need to bring coffee, creamer, and sugar), dishwasher, garbage disposal, range, and fridge. They have full service for 4 people — so only 4 plates, 4 forks, 4 spoons, etc… This is fine because the max number of people for this lodge is 4, but it leaves you doing dishes after/before each meal. We either do this or use disposable dishware & plates. They have all items needed for food preparation: pots, pans, measuring cups & spoons, griddle, strainer, salt, pepper, and anything else you can think of(I even think they have a blender). If you are a coffee drinker — bring your own coffee mug(theirs are kinda small!). They also have a charcoal BBQ grill out back — bring own charcoal, lighter fluid, and matches/lighter. You will see all kinds of birds, turkey, deer, bald eagles, and they have trout, bass, and bluegill in the fishing ponds. Restaurants are nearby(Scotty’s, PM Steamers, Bones & Butts, Emerson Lake Inn) and about 20 minutes away. There is also Luddington State Park(LOVE) on Lake Michigan. Barothy is great for a quiet getaway to relax and have fun. If you want to fish, play tennis, etc… the office does have all of the equipment for use. Barothy is also great for larger groups — check their websites for sizes for large groups. The people are wonderful and very accommodating. Thanks to Barothy for a wonderful visit every year!
