My family has raved about Basil’s for some time now. We went for lunch the other day– boy was I surprised at how GREATEVERYTHING was! Not only did they accommodate our party, paying close attention the the kids, they did a special ½ and ½ of veal and eggplant meal for my mom, the food was great, portions were beyond, and the complementary rice pudding was a sweet surprise. The service was amazing– despite they fact she had a party of 50 in addition to us. The owner– was the nicest owner I have even seen– when the server got busy, he actually ran our food! He also talked with us and made sure we were all set. Hands down a MUST visit! I would give Basil’s 10 stars if I could!!!

I am definitely on a greek food kick this past month. Maybe it’s because it’s great comfort food — from Mousaka to Pastichio(Yes, I had to look up how to spell that), with each bite of eggplant, meat, and béchamel sauce dancing in your mouth with pleasure. A great find in Wallingford. A unpretentious, down-home type of restaurant where you will never be disappointed.

My wife and I found Vasilis(the owner) when he was working over at Zorba’s in Meriden. We absolutely loved his tableside manner. We always thought the restaurant belonged to him. One day we went there only to learn he was gone. One of the wait staff told us he had opened his own restaurant in Wallingford: Basils. We went over to check it out and the menu was very similar to Zorbas. Greek/Italian style. I haven’t tried anything on the menu I didn’t like. If you like Greek food, try the Gyros. If you like Italian, try the chicken or eggplant parm. The meals come with the salad bar which is also a plus for the menu. On Mondays and Tuesdays there are specials for about ten bucks which includes the desert and salad bar. The portions are big enough where you could take half of it home if you wanted to, but the food is good so I usually scarf down too much of it. My inlaws are from Toronto and each time they come down, this is usually one of the first places they want to go. Everytime the whole belly clams go on special, I always jump on it and order them. The seafood dinners are also very good. This is always a place I would recommend and on a Friday night when the waits are long at the chain places, this local place has little or no wait.

What a great place! It’s so refreshing to have the owner of a restaurant stop by your table to make sure everything is okay and thank you for coming. The servers are friendly and always willing to please. Portions are large, so I always look forward to eating my leftovers for lunch the next day. My husband and I have been there several times, and we are never disappointed. The rice pudding which is included with every meal is the best I’ve ever had. I hope this restaurant stays around for a very long time!

Not a bad option for Greek-style pizza in the Wallingford area. I’d driven by this restaurant a number of times, but i never got around to trying it until I picked up a gift certificate. My boyfriend and I found it to be a pretty good, reasonable choice for dinner, especially with the discounted gift certificate. When you walk inside, the place feels like a 50’s diner hosting a fine Italian night. The booth seats and décor feel like a retro diner, but the tables are topped with white tablecloths. It’s an interesting, yet comfortable, mix. We got a salad, boneless buffalo chicken tenders, a supreme pizza, and baklava for dessert. The salad was standard, the buffalo chicken tenders were a little soggy, but not bad, and the pizza was pretty good. Nice crispy, Greek-style crust. Lots of toppings. A little heavy on the green peppers and onions, but we liked it. We had to round our bill out to $ 35 to use the gift certificate so we added a baklava for dessert, which we ended up taking home along with a majority of our pizza. The staff was friendly, especially this one waiter we ended up liking a lot. As we sat down, another party either brought the wrong certificate or forgot theirs, and the waiter looked it up on his iphone for them. He came to check on us a lot, and he was pretty busy for being the only waiter working there with who I think was the owner. Overall, it was a pretty good experience. They’ve also done Record-Journal Deal of the Day coupons. It’s a place we’ll keep in mind for takeout pizza if we’re going to be on Route 5, or if we buy more discounted certificates.
