Atmosphere: Yes Food: No Go there for some drinks and nachos in the bar area, not for family dinner… Pricey food on the lower quality side. Service is ok, just felt like we were payin the rent with high food prices on regular stuff like burgers, chilli dogs, salads and fried chicken. I won’t be back any time soon and hopefully I don’t get any gift cards for this place.

I’ve always wanted to come here because as a kid growing up in the 70s, McCovey was on the tail end of his career and was my favorite player. Hearing they were closing down, we had to get out there. I love all the stuff about the place; many of my heroes growing up and it’s not just baseball although it was mostly baseball. The team signed baseballs were pretty neat. The prices for everything was, as we heard, really expensive. I had the BBQ chicken. It was very dry. The sauce was, it seemed, just something out of a bottle bought at Safeway. I read an article that McCovey said he wanted people to keep coming back for the food but man, this surely couldn’t be what he was talking about. The potato salad(I love potato salad), was just generic potato salad scooped out of a plastic container with an ice cream scoop(it appeared). It was bland and definitely something bought in a big generic plastic container. The beans were also just generic beans out of a can, possibly even from the 99 cent store. The cold slaw was awful and not edible. She had a salad and said it was good, so I can only reference what I ate. Definitely not worth coming back for. Then we ended up at the part where they sell memorabilia. Nothing irks me more than dealers who sell stuff for way, way more than it’s worth to cash in on most people’s illiteracy of what stuff is worth, thinking that«if it’s about baseball, it must be worth a lot!» This place was the worst, even more than dealers I’ve seen at card stores or shows. The prices they wanted for the balls and jerseys was criminal. I feel bad for anyone who paid what they were asking. I love Hank Aaron but an autographed ball(with no certificate no less) is NOT worth $ 300 in this or any other dimension. There were tons of stuff that was priced 3 – 4 times what it was worth. Very scummy. If you bought one of those balls and tried to sell it the next day, you’d be lucky to get a fifth of what you paid and you probably couldn’t get a penny because none of the stuff had certificates of authenticity. I realize people aren’t buying to sell them but seriously, you can find that stuff elsewhere far, far cheaper. I feel bad giving a bad review to anything with McCovey’s name on it and I doubt he really has a lot to do with anything here, but man, I won’t be missing this place.

If you’re having withdrawals from going to Giants games at AT&T Park, you can have your vicarious experiences at McCovey’s Restaurant. Willie McCovey was interviewed when his restaurant opened in 2003 and he used the«Planet Hollywood» chain as an example. He said that he wanted to be different because unlike«Planet Hollywood» when they first opened, they were really popular; but over time, the crowds were getting smaller and eventually a lot of their locations closed down because their food wasn’t their main attraction. Willie McCovey said that in order to keep his restaurant popular, their food had to stay good and constantly evolving. I have to completely agree that McCovey’s Restaurant is a lot better than Planet Hollywood. I love how this restaurant really stays true to AT&T Park, with the brick walls and actual ballpark seats & bases, with famous baseball quotes around the entire restaurant. There are tons of televisions too, so you can watch any major sporting event you want. As for the food, it has gotten a lot better. I especially like their combo plates, which has a good variety of different foods and it’s a decent value. FYI, I have seen players and former players dine here before. Over the years, I ran into Willie McCovey, Tim Hudson, Mark Mulder, Joe Morgan, etc. The best odds of running into a player coming here for dinner., is in the middle of the week after the A’s or the Giants played a home day game.

I’m not a Giants fan but I love all the memorabilia around this place. My only issue is that they lack in Vegetarian options which is a bummer. The food is alright, not fantastic. Just traditional bar food that you know most is frozen. I’ll go back if I have too, but I wouldn’t choose to.

Every time we come here, they’re very accommodating to our family with 2 toddlers. They always have a booth available for our party of 4. Service and food is served promptly and the food is fresh. The food is cooked perfectly and the fries are cooked just right. There is so much to look at, memorabilia from all MLB teams to admire, items to shop for, TV’s to watch all any sport event that is going on. My favorites here are the: Blue Giants Burger, the Orange Giants Mojito, the calamari and the garlic fries. My kids like the hot dog or the mac and cheese with fries and my husband like the BLT sandwich. One thing I thought was silly was the fact that the kids menu came with crayons… but none of the crayons given were orange or black. I wonder if anyone has ever asked for those color crayons. We’ll be back for sure. Go GIANTS!

We didn’t have $$$$ to spend on World Series tickets so I knew that the next best thing was to come here at McCoveys. The line outside started about an hour and a half before the game, but it was worth it! All the boys had such a great time and kept telling me that I have the best ideas. Thank you thank you :) We had a blast and the energy is always great here at McCoveys! I really liked the way that they did the line during the WS. No hassle and very organized. Staff was great. I’ve brought my baby brother here once and he absolutely adores this place. I mean come on, the whole place is like a miniature AT&T Park! What’s not to love? They also have a private room that you can reserve for a special occasions. The last two times that I’ve been here, our server was Elizabeth. She is such a sweetheart! She’s friendly and always has a smile on her face. She did phenomenal during the WS. Even though, they were completely slammed she had things under control. Their food is definitely not the best, but I’ve enjoyed most of the food that I’ve ordered here. Although, some of the items are way too overpriced for what they are. Love the whole concept of McCoveys. If you are a Giants fan, make sure to come here during one of the games. Bring the kiddos too because who doesn’t want to eat on a Giants baseball diamond?!

we have been to Mc Coveys at least 5 times in the last year, each time giving it another chance. The wait staff are friendly, and you get good service, but the food has been dropping off every time, We went yesterday after going to the Giants game, Saturday at 600pm and it was not very busy, there were people there but since it’s the last weekend before school starts i guess people were getting ready for school, last trips, etc. So the food came out cold, i got he barbecue combo and the chicken was cold, the ribs were fatty and barely any meat and the tri tip was like it came out of the fridge, The potato salad was room temp and bland. My date had the salmon which was ok, but the greens were very wet and runny, I don’t know what happened, I don’t know if people are going through the motions but I enjoy the other sports bars in the area much better as of late. Btw, is it a memorabilia shop or is it a restaurant. The have bats and balls and jerseys for sale. A huge number of overpriced balls. if i wanted to go to a memorabilia shop i would, if i go to a restaurant i go to a restaurant. So, maybe they should make up their mind what they want to be, and become that. Because the food is falling by the way side. What keeps me going back is maybe it will turn around, I do like the numerous games going on and the service is good. So you have 2 positives. Maybe they will read Unilocal and see how people view their restaurant. Or maybe they will say, oh well, it’s Giants and people will keep coming no matter what… IDk, but I would think they have better sense.

Was not happy. Food was over priced, and it was extra greasy. Great thing was the service from our waitress. I tipped her well despite the food and drink. When you go to a restaurant with a bar, that has TV’s, by definition it is a sports bar. Sports bar food at places like Masses’s, Ed’s Mudville Grill, or Crogan’s is better, lower pricing, and ultimately the drinks are better and stronger. I ordered the FISH and CHIPS $ 16.99 at McCovey’s Cove,($ 12.99 at Masse’s),($ 13.99ED’s MUDVIlle Grill),($ 12.99 Crogans), all different styles of batter, by the way. They all beat McCovey’s which I am disappointed since it was a Sierra Nevada beer batter Fish and Chips,(which does not compare to Sierra Nevada Breweries version in Chico!) Also ordered the lumpia, It’s O. K but its not the best, the sauce actually compensated for the lumpia. I remember when McCovey’s cove opened almost 14 years ago, the food was more exciting, the staff was more engaging, the pricing was alot better than it is now. The management which is still owned by the same management use to take joy and excitement in the restaurant, now it just seems as if the place is just keeping up on the bills. The ginger Martini was over priced tasted like crap, that’s what my wife ordered, that is according to her words. I took a small sip it was not dry or perfected. I ordered a long Island Ice Tea, absolutely disgusting. For the price I should of received a «fresh» lime and simple syrup mix, small splash of coke, instead of a pre mix sweet and sour, and the the gin was over killed,(when gin over kills the long island it is not properly balanced to the rest of the alcohols). My wife was not happy with the burger. She just said«its a burger, its not like a burger from the habit, or the counter». My interpretation is REDROBIN makes a slammin burger that way over does McCovey’s, and you save $ 3.00 an d teh atmosphere is just as exciting if not more exciting. My wife and I are very conservative conscious about our money, we are willing to spend top dollar if the value is there. That’s what brings us back for«elevated cost restaurants». Just because McCovey’s cove was endorsed by Willie McCovey, because he was adopted by the Dudum’s, does not mean that the endorsement elevates the price if the quality and the chemistry of perfecting the food and its final end result of quality and«FRESHNESS» is not there. The environment is partially there, we all understand the theme, but the theme of representing a baseball legend, and not making the food legendary;something to to remember, especially when there are elevated costs involved. All I can say is this place is a recipe for the«EPICFAIL». I can only recommend to contact Robert Irvine from Food Networks, Restaurants Impossible and structure the menu properly before the McCoveys cove gets demolished like candlestick park.

This place is definitely hit and miss for me. I do notice that the turnover in staff seems to be higher lately as well. I’m currently waiting on my lunch and can tell that my waitress/bartender is a little overwhelmed due to the number of tables vs. staff(1 in the bar 1 in the dining area for a lunch crowd), but she’s kicking butt. A buddy of mine tried to negotiate fire a jersey they had for sale and was completely blown off by the manager/owner. What used to be a regular now will never step foot in this place. I’ve heard that upper management has crushed the vibe of the place and as a result there is very high turnover in staff which lends itself to the vibe of you never know what you’re going to get. Our food was good I got a grand slam burger with garlic fries(fries were a little overdone) wife got the pulled pork and we split the nachos. All the food was good and we brought a good portion of it home because of larger portion sizes. I did notice that they had no Happy Hour specials unlike all of their competition within a 2 block radius and as a result the place was very empty. I may go back, but in sports terms I’m close to putting McCovey’s on waivers.

This is a consistently good place to watch any sporting event. The food is mediocre, it is basically bar food. But you’re coming here to watch the game anyways! Service was really good, especially considering we went at an off time. We started with the mozzarella sticks, which weren’t piping hot as they should be for melted cheese. Nothing to write home about since I am pretty sure the ones you can buy in the frozen food section at the grocery store would taste like these. I ordered the grilled chicken club sandwich with Monterey jack cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and avocado. Friend ordered the pulled BBQ pork sandwich. Overall, these sandwiches were just what we were craving and we definitely had leftovers! The portions are really big. Love the idea for this restaurant. Tons of memorabilia hanging all over the place, and not just for the Giants. The floor is actually a baseball diamond, too! You enter the restaurant at home plate. We had a really fun time looking at everything and watching the baseball game. Parking was not difficult and it is really close to the downtown Walnut Creek which was nice to walk off our sandwiches after.

I hate the Giants so they lose a star just for that. lol But they gained it back because they did show love to all the other Bay Area teams I do enjoy. Hostess was pleasant in seating us and gave us the perfect spot to watch the sporting event of our choice which was the Warriors game. I wanted to make a point to put our servers name in this review alas I forgot her name. She was of Spanish descent is all I remember. Why I wanted to mention her was she was on point the entire time. Very pleasant and nice. Kept our drinks refilled and was very attentive. Definitely someone who deserves a pat on the back for a job well done. Where the stars are lost was the food. I wanted to order rib eye but was politely told that they were out but the cut was New York. I ordered it sheepishly as I’ve never gone to a non steakhouse that could ever cook a New York cut medium rare properly. This was no exception. I never send them back as it is just wasteful in my opinion. The steak needed salt or seasoning for sure. The even sadder part was my «veggie» side which consisted of the thinnest asparagus. Which wasn’t the biggest problem with the side the problem was that there were only 3. One of which was hidden by the steak that was sitting on top of it. My friends who were with me weren’t please with their meals in the end but we were there for the game so we weren’t overly concerned and we liked our server enough that it didn’t matter. I’ve been here several time the service is usually hit and miss. I do suggest sitting at the bar if you cant’ get the lady we had that day. Definitely don’t order the steak. I’ve had the burger and fries before and those are pretty satisfying. Sadly this is one of the best looking sports bars around so if you are a fan of the Giants or baseball in general it’s always worth going to. If you’re going for drinks and a game it’s fine. For a sit down dinner I’d look elsewhere after your game or have something before nearby.

The waitress we had was very friendly and attentive but the food was on the salty side. For example — mashed potatoes, fried chicken, salmon and cauliflower mash. Salmon was also dry so maybe a little over cooked. The asparagus and corn on the cob were old. The ribs and beans were good. We went early so service was pretty quick too.

What can you say when you try to go back and give a place a second chance. It sucked. The food server was attentive for 5 minutes but when she was given a table of 7 our table of three was forgotten. The food sucked. How can you screw up hamburgers and grilled salmon!!! That is IF you are a real chef. The atmosphere with the décor is cool but that is about all this place has to offer. Don’t come here for the food.

I went here for a friend’s surprise birthday party & the food, drinks & service were all awesome! We had a great time, the cake they brought out for our friend was really cool, it was an oreo cookie cake with his name on it & everything! I had fish tacos, Laguna taste IPA& the Crispin Hard Apple Cider, they didn’t put any dairy products on my tacos just as I requested & the drinks came super fast too! I figured service would be slow & the food wouldn’t be that great because it was on the weekend, but it was the total opposite! The only thing that sucked was finding parking! There was some kind of concert going on the same jugs so it took about 15min of driving around before we decided to pay $ 5 for parking in the garage on the next block. That sucked. Validated parking would be a nice touch.

Neat little place! Came here for lunch with my coworkers — décor is awesome and looks like a cool place to watch sports games and everything. I ordered: — Fried Chicken Sandwich with Garlic Fries — Neapolitan Milkshake The sandwich was pretty tasty! Fried chicken was super filling since it was a thick piece of chicken. They cut the sandwich in half and I could only finish a half. Saved the other half for later. The fries were a little soft? Yummy and delicious garlic taste to them though — a must try! When I ordered the neapolitan shake(they offered chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry), the waiter looked at me like he’s never heard it before. It came in a glass and then another tall tin shaker with all the excess milkshake. It was a bit runny, not thick & creamy. It was almost like drinking melted ice cream… but it was still good. Would come back again to try the other burgers though! They looked amazing!

They get 5 stars for the Name, Décor and the Texas Tea(Bartender, whoever you are you rock!) I was disappointed in the food. Clam Chowder in a bread bowl: Blah, not fresh at all. The bread was good. Pear and Walnut Salad: I had to order more Blue Cheese Crumbles and Blue cheese dressing on the side. I’ve had better at home. Jumbo Chicken Wings Tossed in McCovey’s traditional Buffalo Sauce and served with Blue Cheese Dressing: Where is the JUMBO? Tyson Frozen Chicken? Sigh. MCCOVEY’S FAMOUSTEXASTEA: OOOOOHHHHYEAH! Party in my mouth for sure. Vanilla vodka, Rum, triple sec, orange juice & whip cream. I will be back, for drinks and a good time. For drinks… Just for drinks. GOGIANTS!

When given the choice of sports bars in Walnut Creek, McCovey’s is a solid bet. The restaurant and bar themselves are about 3 stars. I would say better than average sports bar food, acceptable drinks, above sports bar average pricing, obscene numbers of TVs, and ample space to hunker down for a game. The bar and restaurant are sufficiently separated to be family friendly. Perfect for Dad to take the family to dinner, but still feel like he is out watching sports and throwing one back with the guys. This place gets an extra star because I’m a Giants fan. Dear lord, the person who started McCovey’s is PASSIONATE about the Giants. Take the most obsessive Gaints fan’s man cave… and make it into a restaurant. It kind of looks like the Giant’s Dugout Store exploded on the restaurant. Feel like running the bases? No problem, they are embedded in the diamond shaped dining room. I find it funny that the restaurant with the most Giants spirit that I have seen in my life… is in Walnut Creek. Sure, why not… die hard SF Giants fans MUST take a pilgrimage here.

We visited McCovey’s a few weeks ago with a large group. THIS is a Giants fan’s mecca… no doubt. The owners have done a GREAT job of building a sports bar with the ultimate theme — around the World Series Champs, of course! Many many pluses: — the could handle a large group –TONS of parking — FAST service — good food — TVs EVERYWHERE, tuned to every possible sports activity — Giants jerseys everywhere We had a ton of wait staff assigned to the various tables. Our table of four did a broad spectrum of the menu… the wife got a salad, I got a chicken club, one of the guys ordered appetizers only(fried zucchini and fried calamari) and the other guy at our table ordered a burger. We got our drinks and chatted while we waited for the meals to show — and they showed up pretty quickly. The appetizers(as a meal) looked good(although why anyone would eat zucchini… fried or not, is beyond my simple realm of comprehension) — the wife loved her sald… and the burger looked like the side of a mountain(picture uploaded… you can see I’m not kidding!). The chicken sandwich was good — AFTER I removed the top of the bun. I’m not a bread fan to begin with, but the bun top was over 2″ thick… again, not kidding. Upon removal, the sandwich was pretty tasty. Oh…and did I mention… garlic fries? MMMMMMmmmmmMMMM!!! Overall, definitely a cool place, and if I were in Walnut Creek during the playoffs, there’s no question I’d hang here. Worth checking out…
