The food was decent but the service was slow. There were two waitresses but only one of them was serving tables, and she was struggling to remember to bring us everything we ordered and had to ask twice for some items, and never got hot tea refills. She also charged us differently than I asked between our two credit cards. I would not have left a review at all until I just realized she never gave my card back to me, and now I need it and they are closed.

I’m not a sushi eater, so don’t judge my rating if you’re into sushi. I hear they have very good sushi. I think their rice is a little sticky or overcooked a lot. However, the side salad that comes with the Chicken Katsu or the Teriyaki Chicken is always fresh. They’re good for take out. Not very kid friendly for dine in if you have little ones like toddlers or babies. The chicken Katsu is good, so is the teriyaki chicken. They don’t stand out from Hawaiian barbecue or I love teriyaki. Basically the same food, a bit more expensive. Nothing above and beyond here, but not bad either. The restaurant is kept very clean, but some of the workers smoke out front even if the doors are open. I wasn’t impressed by their miso soup… I feel like it’s pricey for quality. Also, one time I did an online order and I was waiting for hours until I realized they were closed, but they took my money anyways and allowed the order to be placed. It may have even been through Unilocal. They eventually refunded me, but I was sitting there waiting, no one answering the phone,.starving for delivery to my apt with my son… that was a bummer. So don’t order online because some days they are unexpectedly closed.

I can’t believe it took me a while to rate this place, I mean I’m here pretty much once a week. In fact, if I can go everyday, I would! That’s as good as it gets! My boyfriend and I moved in Pleasant Hill in the beginning of the year, our apartment was only a block from Mika’s. This was one of the first restaurants that we tried out and we like it a lot since it’s in a very convenient location, only walking distance from us. The people who works here are all very nice and sweet. One time we were here, they gave us complementary wine. Then, another time they gave me free miso soup. Sometimes their chef would serve the food himself too, and that was a really nice gesture. The place might looked like it’s always empty but every time we would eat at the place, we see a lot of people picking up their food or ordering for to-go mainly because the place is just right next to an apartment complex. I’ve tried their bento box, their rolls and their sashimi. Everything comes out fresh as always! There was never a time they failed in serving a fresh sushi! My family likes their miso soup which I agree! It is so far the best miso soup I’ve had. I really love this place. They are very consistent in serving the best sushi in town and I always have the best experience every time I dine in here at Mika’s. HIGHLYRECOMMEND!

Come here for the food, not the ambience. I’ve always been satisfied with the food I’ve ordered from here whether it was inside the restaurant or made to go. The ambience is lacking, they’re usually playing some kind of travel documentary on local cable or they’re playing dated music. I wouldn’t come here for the atmosphere although it’s not bad, they could do better. If you’re looking for the experience a sushi bar had to offer, I’d look at other places to check out in the Walnut Creek area. But if you’re hungry and looking for a quick dining experience or take out, this is definitely your spot.

This is my first time here. I had a bento box lunch. Miso soup came first. It was very hot! It tasted different than every other miso soup that I have had. Not bad, just different. Nice size bowl of it. I chose spicy tuna and negihama rolls with my box. It also came with rice, a few edamame and a green salad. This was my first time eating a salad with chop sticks! I had never had negihama roll before, I liked it and the wrap was tender. The spicy roll was different that I have ever had and it’s my go to items. It was much spicier than any other and had an odd flavor. Service was very friendly.

Bonzai!(Plant). Had an order of the Agedashi Tofu(~$ 7): Deep fried tofu in a special sauce, garnished with grated daikon and ginger, shredded nori, kaiware sprouts and scallions. Also sampled an assortment of Veggie Rolls(~$ 4-$ 10). Food was delicious, staff was respectful, and the ambiance was experimental.

I’m vegan, and after a really long day, I was looking for a delivered dinner. Mika’s had quite a few vegan options, so I figured I would give it a try. Boo. This was really bland. I REALLY appreciate when restaurants have vegan options, but this is not something I would ever order again. I ordered 3 rolls, and some veggie tempura. #1, the veggie tempura came with 2 shrimp in it(that I fed to my dog). It was crispy, and hot. But had no flavor, even dipped in the sauce. The rolls literally had no seasoning. The vegetables were flavorless. So, it was just mouthfuls of plain rice, with plain veggies. If anyone wants to taste all that vegan sushi(and other Japanese fare) can be… go to Shizen in SF. Unfortuantely, they don’t deliver to Walnut Creek. :(

Good food and service at very fair prices. A mystery to me why were the only diners at 6:45PM. I’d go back again. Dinner for 2 with sake(for1), with tip $ 34.25. Plus complementary Plum wine as a end note.

Would concur with the average 3.5 star rating. It’s an ok sushi experience with a Phil Collins concert playing in the background, but since I can’t get the Phil Collins song out of my head, I’m going to give it 3 stars. J/K. Popped in for a quick meal on a recent weekend. The menu is rather extensive. I ordered an Ichiban roll that was huge. Practically took up the span of the table but it wasn’t particularly memorable in taste. Glad I didn’t order anything else because it was too much to finish. We split the tempura that was better and the batter consistency was good. Ok for a neighborhood spot for run of the mill sushi.

Visited after a trip to the Walnut Creek Art and Wine Festival. The place was empty around 5pm on Sunday, and we were the only customers, until a group came in when we left, and we came here based upon previous East Bay vegan reviews. The vegan choices are actually pretty extensive, although not overly exciting. The vegan roll is tiny(a third the size of the monster fish roll) and pretty bland. The vege tempura too was OK, but nothing amazing. The service was friendly and quick, not surprising, given we were the only ones there, although she seemed distracted at the end. Wouldn’t be in a hurry to return(vege grill is perhaps a better local choice), but given the many vegan choices, demands to be given 4 stars.

Ducked in here for a quick lunch after work and before a nail appointment. The chef was so wonderful, the sushi very fresh, well presented, and so so delicious! Recommend the Sumo Roll(spicy tuna!) with Unagi Sauce, and the 49ers roll(with lemon slices and salmon yum) ! Edamame was tasty, perfect portions, reasonably priced, service was great, and they accommodated my friends allergy. Go eat here! Sit at the bar it’s lovely.

Agreed with other reviewers of the really long wait time. I was afraid of not getting my food as I ordered late and they were closing at 9p. I received my food at 8:45p. It took an 1.5 hrs for them to deliver my sushi. Didn’t include the miso soup and rice as mentioned in the description just a salad. I gave them 3 stars because the sashimi pieces were astronomical in portion to most places I’ve eaten at. Would have been nice to have the rice with it vs only daikon. Maybe because i lucked out ordering near closing time… might try again. Only will pick it up myself :-)

I like this restaurant, their food is pretty tasty and the environment is quite. I like the way NAMIKO the lady who works there, treat customers with respect. If you go there ask to be served by NAMIKO.

This is by far the WORST sushi that I’ve ever had. My fiancé and I decided to have a relaxing evening, watch a movie, and order takeout. We thought that with the restaurant being a 3 min drive away, that we would get our food at a decent time through GrubHub. We ordered two sushi rolls, gyoza, and sashimi… nothing crazy. GrubHub told us that our food should arrive in about 45 min to an hour. We weren’t super pleased, but didn’t feel like leaving the hotel, so we decided to wait. After an hour and a half, we still hadn’t received our food. There was no update from GrubHub either. I finally called and they said it would be 10 more minutes. After 15 minutes went by, I called GrubHub again. They said it would be another 10 minutes before the delivery driver would get here. Long story short, we didn’t get our food until 2 hours after we placed the order. The delivery driver claimed that he got lost. Once our food arrived, the gyoza was cold and our sushi was warm. If I had know A) that it would take two hours to get a simple food order and B) that the raw fish was going to be warm, I would have gladly picked the food up myself or gone elsewhere. I WOULDHIGHLYRECOMMENDTONOTUSEGRUBHUBANDESPECIALLYNOTORDERFROMTHISRESTAURANT! It was a complete waste of our time and money. We didn’t even eat the food and went to bed hungry.

I was hoping so much to write a glowing review of this place. It’s close by, has a varied menu and reasonably priced. I, however, simply cannot. I placed my order on Grub Hub and the timer was set for approximately 7pm. At 7:05 we were called by the delivery woman to say she couldn’t find our apartment. Although the buildings are clearly labeled and in more than one location, I was willing to let it slide and offered to step outside and flag her down. After 25 more minutes, I had seen no one. We finally got our food at nearly 7:40pm. My wife’s hot food was cold and our cold sushi rolls were lukewarm. Finally, I attempted to call the location in a last ditch effort to speak with someone and figure out some way to salvage my experience with this establishment. My call was not picked up even once and I tried four separate times. Bottom line is this: If you want to eat tonight and you’d like your food as you ordered, go somewhere else please.

Nothing too special about this restaurant. Whenever I come here the place is very empty. Last evening I had the 2 item bento with chicken katsu and spicy tuna roll. The katsu was heavily breaded and quite dry. The spicy tuna was decent and nothing spicy about it. With the plethora of sushi restaurants in the area. I would go to another one for better food and service.

Just moved to nearby and saw this on the way to the apartment. Luckily it was walking distance; even luckier that it also has delivery! The food taste great! I love their miso soup. I also love that they have a bento box option for 12.5 for 3 items! Last time I had a bento box for the same price was back when I lived in San Diego. I had tried over my two visits in a row: their Gyoza, Chicken Katsu, Tonkatsu, Inari Roll, Lion King Roll, and another roll that contained whitefish(I believe Haddock?). All were delicious, all are worth coming back for! Can’t wait to come back again and try their other sushi rolls!

Looking for a Japanese date night place or a restaurant that can accommodate a large group? Mika’s is your place. Walking distance from Concord/Pleasant Hill BART station, this is a great meet up restaurant regardless of where you are in the bay area. Keep in mind this restaurant is NOT located in the heart of Walnut Creek, near the shopping centers. It’s closer to Concord/PH. The ambiance is very nice, consisting of Red walls, booths and sushi bar seating. Several Japanese artifacts adorn the walls. I think what surprised me and my honey was the music. It’s not your typical, waterfall or ocean sounds that you hear in most Japanese restaurants. They were actually playing music from today hit stations(example Pit Bull, Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry and etc.) Service is not the greatest, meaning it takes a long time until the waitress takes your order or fills your drink cup. Nonetheless, the wait staff are very friendly, which kind of makes it hard to get upset. This place is great for all eaters(carnivore, pescatarian, omnivores, vegetarians and vegans) they have an extensive menu selection. Our favorite dishes are: VEGETABLE-TOFUCURRY with UDONNOODLE, the curry soup base is what makes this dish, very flavorful. VEGANGYOZA the crunchy side compliments the steam gyoza. SOBASUSHI… when I first read this sushi, we were hesitant to order it, but we figured we’ll try it out. I am happy we did because the soba noodle actually taste better than sushi rice. We ordered several fried rolls but was not a fan of them. The sauce did not compliment the roll and lacked crunch from the deep fried. I’m definitely a fan of this place for the fact they provide several vegan options. If they work on their service and the sauces for both entrees and rolls, this would be a 5 star for sure.

Eureka! I have discovered Mika’s! Suddenly, my living in Pleasant Hill doesn’t seem so dreary. Let’s be real for a second, veggie friends and allies. Contra Costa County is not exactly progressive when it comes to hot vegan dining destinations. Concord has a couple, but P. Hill and Walnut Creek are pretty sparse. I love Japanese food(love love love), but I often feel unwelcome, as they don’t have many veggie options. Along comes Mika’s. They are totally the opposite, as their menu is about half vegetarian! The other half is the usual suspects(fish, sashimi, grilled meats, and so on). They have a vast array of noodles, bento boxes, nigiri, uramaki, futomaki… The list goes on and on. There’s something for pretty much everyone! I ordered the Daily Special for my mom, a bento box with chicken teriyaki, rice, salad, miso soup, cucumber salad, vegetable tempura, and one inari($ 13.95). Quite a deal, as it was a ton of food! She couldn’t even finish it all, but she said everything was delicious. Not to brag or anything, but my mother is one smart cookie and has an exceptional palate. She noticed that they didn’t over-salt their food, as some Japanese places tend to do, and also pointed out that the rice was cooked perfectly. It’s small details like this that can make or break a Japanese dining experience. If you are a relatively healthy eater(as we are), I think this is your new spot. I ordered one Vegan Roll and one Delem roll, plus an extra order of inari. Today was Payday, so I decided to splurge a little bit. Let me tell you, I was in sushi heaven. Their veggie options are quite similar to those at Cha-Ya and Saina, so if you enjoy those places, you will definitely enjoy Mika’s Japanese Cusine. Oh, and this place is within walking distance of my house, so I will definitely be a regular. They also offer delivery, if you are feeling like a lazy bum and don’t feel like walking or driving over. ;) Not sure of the maximum distance or minimum order requirements, so I would inquire within. I feel like this will be a hit with my family, as they are all extremely omnivorous(leaning more towards carnivorous), and I am the odd duck who is a strict vegan. Let’s support this little restaurant, as I worry that this plaza doesn’t generate too much traffic. They are nice folks who make genuinely tasty food. Give ‘em a try!
