We will not be darkening this door ever again. Came for lunch. While I was greeted immediately and seated. I had to get the servers attention as she was watching TV. My husband was running an errand next store and I said I could order for both of us. The server was very gruff and rude. When I asked if the lunch combinations came worn a roll, she very sternly said No. Then when I asked another question the same answer just add gruff and then she resumed away. Worn only 2 tables who were leaving I have no idea where she was headed. But clearly not waiting on us was her plan.

There was no wait on a Wednesday around 6PM. Waitress seated us in the middle and made sure we were okay with it. They have a variety and a handful to choose from on the menu. We took awhile to order, but we were given water right away. The food didn’t take too long to come out. We ordered Lulu Special, Bryant, Caterpillar, California roll, and karaage & tempura. Everything was good. Even the California roll was satisfying because they packed it well and didn’t skimp out on the avacado. The karaage was really good because it wasn’t dry at all and I think the seasoning made it really good. The waitress came by to ask how we like everything and she told us we did well because we killed everything so quick. Our total came out to be around $ 80.

We were searching for a new restaurant in the area that’s on the way to our favorite grocery store and we stopped by Tatsu to give it a go. Since it was a cold day and sorta late, the place was a bit empty so we got seated quickly. The décor of the restaurant is pretty nice. It’s actually bigger than it seems from the outside. I would say too that it was pretty clean and well kept. They have a large TV behind the sushi bar for those of you who like to watch sports while eating at the bar. We ordered a sushi dinner and I ordered udon w/tempura. My fiancé’s sushi dinner was good except two of the pieces were a bit old and slippery. My udon was about average. The broth was especially weak in flavor, not the usual bonito/soy flavor that I’m used to having when ordering udon. Most especially disappointing was the tempura. It just wasn’t light and crispy. Edit: we also ordered our favorite, amaebi. It wasn’t bad, but we’ve had better. And like my tempura, it was a bit heavy tasting on the batter on the shrimp heads. I will say that the service was top notch. The people running this business are really friendly and were very pleasant to us. I’ll bump this place up to a 3.5 because of it. We’re willing to give it another go as we think this might’ve been an off day.

This place was great! And our server was great as well. He has the tea nonstop flowing. I have to be careful what I eat because I’m pregnant, so when going out for sushi my options are slim. There was actually a lot to choose from and our server even said I could pick anything and I could create my own roll as well as make sure everything was cooked to the right temp. Good tea and salad dressing are the true test for me. We deff. were not disappointed. Service was outstanding and a nice relaxing setting. We will be back when in the area.

Good quality, attentive server, fine presentation, and delicious. The best Saba nigiri I have had on the west coast.

Warning: I have only reviewed sushi joints. I like«traditional sushi.» I think cream cheese in a roll is an abomination. More than three ingredients in a roll confounds me. If you disagree with me on these points, then Tatsu Sushi is probably the place for you! I’ve also only tended to post reviews of the ones that were great because I don’t like to give bad reviews(I already feel like removing this one). But this place made me wonder why I try new restaurants… Arrived at the end of their lunch service(2PM). So… my bad. It’s a nice looking place and seems well kept. I ordered the 7pc nigiri & tekka maki combo. Maybe it was the time of day, but the rice was tough. I’ve never had that before. It was kind of tasty, but had a chewy texture that just wasn’t good. I’d give a pass on this, but the fish was chewy too. It tasted fine, even good, but I didn’t care for the cuts. And am I wrong to assume nigiri sushi should have a bit of hidden wasabi? Service was friendly and speedy — good marks for those. However, if you’ve got a car or über app you’d be better off going down the road a bit for a better meal(Miraku, for example).

Tiffany owns Tatsu. She welcomes her guests warmly and delivers the very best food every time. This family owned restaurant is a wonderful place for a delicious meal. We bring any and all guests to Tatsu for dinner and it just continues to get better.

Omg, some of the freshest sushi I have had in my life. It is very reasonably priced and made quickly! The waiter was extremely nice, insisted on getting me water and extremely helpful. Clean environment and great customer service skills! Their spicy mayo is great, not too powerful and doesn’t leave a nasty taste in your mouth like some places. The California roll was amazing, I’m pretty sure they use real crab, it flaked off in my mouth and the avocado was fresh ripe and they load it up on each roll. Their tempura shrimp are huge and wonderful!

Walked in and the hostess, without speaking, gestured to a table. No welcome, hello, or anything. Turns out she was also our server. Never once made eye contact or spoke until she presented us with the check and then again without eye contact asked if we needed anything else. She seemed to be able to speak when it was time for the tip. Food good, but unbelievably salty. Weird service. There are so many other delightful Japanese restaurants in Walnut Creek. I’ll go there instead.

This place has a great atmosphere! I love all of the decorations because it makes me feel like I’m in a whole different place! I ordered the makki roll(cucumber) and the Raider’s Special for $ 8.95(avocado, spicy salmon, shrimp tempura, topped with tempura crunchies and sauce). Both tasted pretty good, but had structural issues. The cucumber roll wasn’t completely wrapped; it seemed like the seaweed wasn’t long enough so all of my pieces had a little door like little sushi spaceships. The Raider’s Special was HELLA big and I couldn’t comfortably eat one whole piece at a time. Unfortunately, it also fell apart when I tried to bite it, which is expected. Service was decent. The waitresses are nice, but I wish they checked on me just a little more. Overall, a decent place, but not the best sushi I’ve had.

By far the best Japanese restaurant in the East Bay. Sushi us always fresh regardless on day of the week. Friendly, fabulous wait staff(Alicia is great!!), easy parking, nice atmosphere. I addition to yummy sushi(Hawaiian Pearl the best), grilled entrees are also great.

I have not been here consistently over the last few years(when I first tried it prior to my familiarity with Unilocal(back in 2008) I love the sushi, but admittedly, its pricier than many other locations I’ve gone to. I let the manager pick my roll(I’m truly not that picky) and she picked a good one. Salmon, Jalapeño, 2 of my favorite items married on a roll… with a little ponzu… so good. Rolls are decent size, but I guess I’ve found a lot of locations that provide similar rolls at a lower price. I was surprised that it was so quiet during the lunch hour, unless people shy away based on the price of the items on the menu… Nevertheless, it was great sushi.

A long story short… the owner/manager is very rude, the price of the food is exaggerated and it’s not that great. I haven’t been treated with such an attitude at a restaurant ever and with so many great Japanese places in the area, it’s a shame this restaurant is how it is. There are a lot better options!

I love going to Tatus Sushi. This is the first sushi restaurant I went to after moving to California(thanks Peggy!) and I ended up living around the corner from it for a half dozen years. The food is uniformly excellent, as is the service, and their lunch specials are great. One thing I’d like to be sure is clear is that this is a great place to introduce kids to sushi. I brought my step-daughter Emma here often and they treated her like gold(even when she unintentionally dumped an entire bowl of miso soup on herself). The folks who run Tatsu Sushi are awesome and I make it a point to eat there whenever I’m in Walnut Creek.

Unfortunately, tatsu is slowly getting worse. This is unfortunate because it is within walking distance. The portions have been getting smaller, the fish, less fresh, and the prices higher. What was once a nice dinner dish at 18.50 has become a plate of small pieces of hamachi which are really borderline edible for 22.50 What one reviewer said about people not knowing about the food they are selling is correct. Too bad, but hopefully it will close and somebody better will take over. There is really nothing here that I can recommend at all: the teriyaki is tough and overlooked, the fish is not fresh, service is borderline, and the price is high.

This place is a tad pricey, but their food is pretty good. I’ve never had bad service before, but that might be because of the people I come with. However, don’t let the service deter you from this place. There’s tons to order and try here. Their sashimi always tastes fresh and the tempura is fried to a flawless golden yellow. Their special rolls are fun to try. So far, my favorite rolls have been the Mountain Roll/Special and the Mars Special. I’ve heard the Jenny’s Special is quite popular, but it’s a bit on the heavy side for me. Their spider roll is pretty good here too. They don’t skimp out on the spider crab and rolls are huge.

A great discovery! I was on my way home after running some errands in d. t W.C, when a craving for Japanese food came upon me. I didn’t want to go out of my way to drive any where, so while driving down Ygnacio on route home, I decided to swing into the Fresh N Easy shopping center in hopes of finding a Japanese spot. And bingo! Low and behold there was Tatsu! The ambiance of the restaurant is very organic and true to its nature. There also seemed to be a plentiful amount of seating. I got a nice secluded seat by the window. I was quickly assisted by a server and had my order taken. I ordered a bento box lunch special consisting of Teriyaki Chicken and Tempura. It also comes with rice which I opted out on and the standard salad and miso soup. Also ordered tea. Soup came out right away. Remaining food followed moments later appearing delectably appealing. Everything turned out extremely delicious, especially the tempura… mm Overall, nice conveniently located spot, tranquil ambiance, friendly attentive service; and some pretty reasonable prices… will return!
