I went into this place order two sandwiches, I was the only other order at the time and they didn’t even start to make my order for twenty minutes. After waiting a half hour for my sandwiches I look to find that they did not come with the potato wedges as stated on the menu. I brought it to the employees attention and they said, «We assumed you didn’t want the potatoes wedges.» They then proceeded to lie to me and stated I was not charged for the potato wedges on either sandwich, and I was charged for them. I also witnessed the cashier handle food immediately after handling money and he didn’t wash his hands. The other employee was using a rag that was mostly a hole instead if a rag to wipe up the tables, I can only assume the worn rag is a dirty as the employees. Yuck! Never go here!

A lot has changed since 2001. Nancy, the previous manager split & in came a new group of employees. The last time I came here for buffet they didn’t put a fresh pizza out for over an hour. I waited patiently, ate some old pizza that had no business still being out under the hot plate. Nowadays when I do get hot pizzas on the table it’s usually something boring like Pepperoni, a pizza I am not fond of. The quality of the pizza has gone down too. I can no longer say that the pizza is as good as Round Table. It’s like the life of the place has been sucked out. It makes me sad to lower my rating once again but I cannot justify giving this place 3 stars when it’s now below average. Oh how the mighty has fallen, once a 5 star destination is now a lowly 2 star blight of a eatery.

Ok, it’s Memorial Day and I was planning to treat my nieces out to lunch. I made the wrong assumption thinking walnut creek was under the same management as antioch and Brentwood(where I never have issues). My niece headed I. First, as she needed to use the rest room. In hand when coming in I had my bank card and phone in attempts to download a promotional coupon. The manager immediately reprimanded me for not making my order before her using the restroom. With multiple complaints, this man went on incessantly about how«people» use him for the bathroom. And how he has a water bill to pay. I attempted to insist I was ready to make an order(hence form of payment in my hand. And that I needed to wait to see what the niece wanted. For about 5 minutes this man went on and on about how he doesn’t give olive out handouts??? Once again I reminded him I was ready to pay. At this point his tact was working my herves, so I was very firm with my interaction with him. Reminding him multiple times I would be making an order… For 3 people I might add. :/ I mean what owner/mangager who is working with customers or the public goes on and on about how his customers are an inconvenience? Nevertheless, I continued to wait for my niece as I located the coupon on my phone. No sign was visible or posted that this locations hours would be different for the holiday. Nor we’re signs posted about certain items on the menu not being available. By now I was pretty much done. Trying really hard to remain a compliant customer and not lose my nerve. He insisted on taking my order. So I proceeded to give it to him. 3 pizza lunch deals. Then he told me the salad bar was not open at all. At this point I questioned the man as to whether salads were available today. He was very successful at his lack of customer service skills to inform me that it’s a holiday and I shouldn’t expect it to be open. And any straw hat frequenter could tell you a salad is half the reason some ppl go there. And let’s face it, when the salad bar isn’t open… You better know there won’t be any breadsticks. (Just an observation that this man was definitely not a born citizen that observes Memorial Day) but I worked real hard on ignoring the point. This is not a cultural or race issue here. At least it wasn’t until he proceeded to talk about white customers using him for his bathroom and always trying to get handouts. It didn’t end here, as I figured if he gave me this many issues, I knew I’d run into a problem with a coupon. Which he very clearly played stupid about. So, by now I had enough. I told him just to forget a out it, I proceeded to tell him why. IE the lack of his customer service abilities. But I’m pretty sure he didn’t here me over his talking about me only coming in for bathroom use(kind of funny when you’re right next to a gas station) and how my family and I were only looking for a handout. It was actually amusing cause we end up finding ourselves at the Antioch straw hat where the salad bar was indeed open and they were happy to make fresh breadsticks. i was actually concerned that walnut creek and concord were locations owned or franchised by the same as Antioch/Brentwood so I expressed my concerns with Sal, and he was just as boggled. Ur it’s not the same ownership so if you are thinking of going to w.c. Just head over to Antioch. That place is all about community, and under consistent ownership forever

HORRIBLECUSTOMERSERVICE!!! My wife, my mother in law, and I decided to eat lunch today at Straw Hat Pizza. We walked inside and went straight up to the counter. I guess a couple of weeks ago the owner of Straw Hat was going door to door in my mother in law’s neighborhood selling coupons, and my mother in law bought some. It was a BOGO for the buffet. My mother in law wasn’t hungry and paid using one of the coupons. She wasn’t given back a receipt, and when she asked the guy behind the counter he mumbled something and printed out a copy for her. She then looked at the receipt and asked if she could have the two other dollars he owed her. He had already given back her change but conveniently left out the two dollar bills. He didn’t make a big deal about giving back her change so we grabbed our plates and headed for the pizza. The selection wasn’t the best for the pizza but I didn’t really care since they had peperoni and they had one slice of peperoni and sausage left. My wife on the other hand probably wasn’t to enthused because there was no vegetarian but she grabbed some other slices instead. She did ask if they were going to make a veggie pizza and they said yes. There was actually a pretty good selection of stuff to make a salad but I was there for the pizza and that’s what I ate. My wife on the other hand loves her salads and she went over to the bar to take a picture of all the green goodies for all you Unilocalers out there and the guy working the counter asked her what she was doing. She very nicely told him that the pictures were for Unilocal and he then told her the pictures are already on Unilocal. She smiled and said she always tries to put pictures of the restaurants and food whenever she can. HETHENTOLDHERTONOTTAKEANYPICTURESBECAUSEPEOPLESAYMEANTHINGSON Unilocal!!! Well, when you tell a customer not to take pictures, and who was probably going to give you a decent review, definitely wont be giving you a good review now. What an IDIOT. I can’t even think of the thoughts that were bouncing around that dumb asses head when he told my wife(not in a friendly way) to stop taking pictures. Did he really think that would help his Unilocal rating. If I was the owner of this Straw Hat I would fire this guy as fast as possible because he just lost all of our business. So the story doesn’t end there. My wife said she wouldn’t take any pictures and sat down and ate her slices of pizza. They did bring out a veggie so she was able to eat a couple of slices of that before we left. The guy working the counter walked into another room and my wife walked up to the counter to ask one of the female employees if she could get the name of the owner and then the guy walked back and she said it was him. My wife then asked him if he was the owner or just the manager and he said manager owner and then he said manager. He then in a not so friendly voice asked if she wanted the phone number for the owner and I stepped in and said yes. He then told me we were getting two buffets for the price of one and should be happy. I was about to say something and my wife jumped back in and said it wasn’t the price it wasn’t the food it was the way he told her not to take pictures and that she should have asked to take pictures. He then said they cooked the vegetarian just for her. I was shocked because this guy was completely missing the point. We my wife ate 2 small slices of the veggie and there was only a couple of slices left on the whole pizza so obviously there were other people eating it too. Well my wife pointed this little fact out to the manager and he then said«people don’t like vegetarian» I wish one of the other customers would have interjected at this point and said they like veggie pizza’s because that’s actually not something I can even lie about with a straight face.(I’m actually laughing right now just thinking about saying I like veggie pizza’s.) At this point it was time to leave and as we were heading out the Manager said that next time we shouldn’t use a coupon when we come in next time and if we wanted something cheaper we should go somewhere else. Well that a pretty easy decision as we will never be going there again. And I hope that whoever reads this will also stay away. Try the location on monument or anywhere else but don’t go to this Straw Hat Pizza

HEYVEGETARIANS! THEMANAGERHATESYOU!(ANDHEHATES UnilocalTOO) I’m really easy going and get along with pretty much everyone. So this was the worst experience I can remember having with another person in a long time. I will never return to the Walnut Creek location while today’s manager is employed there. In short, this was my first time inside any SHP. So I’ll say this, the pizza was surprisingly good. Salad was good. Frozen yogurt had no bowls but it sounded good. I will ABSOLUTELYVISITOTHERLOCATIONS *(there’s one on Monument in Concord — I’ve posted a picture for them, but never eaten there. The really nice man who answered the phone there just now said they have a salad bar too). According to , there are 6 people in homes for the mentally ill in Walnut Creek. Perhaps I’ve found a candidate for #7. My Mother took my husband and I to lunch today. She had a buy-one-get-one-free coupon that she had purchased(a SHP door-to-door salesman sold her a sheet of coupons for the place, for $ 20). Lunch included a soda which is a great deal compared to Round Table’s buffet. My Mom had already eaten so she just paid for our two lunches. With the coupon the total came to $ 7.58. She had to ask the man to repeat the amount several times as his words were unintelligible. I couldn’t understand either, but she had plenty of coins ready. He took her $ 10 and ignored the coins, giving her back $ 0.42. She had to ask for a receipt and then had to ask for the rest of her change. He owed her $ 2 — no apology at this point. He said he had been confused since there were 3 of us but only 2 eating. Not a big deal, but an apology is deserved when a mistake is made! We went to get our food and I asked if there was any vegetarian pizza. The girl working said one would be out shortly. I took a piece each of the sausage, pepperoni, and a chicken. I’m not vegetarian but I prefer veggie options, when available. Then I went to the salad bar. I actually went back to the table before getting salad to get my phone for a picture of how great it was. Lots of topping options. This upset the man and he asked what my pictures were for. I smiled and said Unilocal and he angrily insisted I not take any pictures; he rudely stated that Unilocal already had pictures(they don’t) and he literally told me he doesn’t want me saying anything bad, so no pictures are allowed. My mom and husband were slack-jawed. I told him that I wasn’t going to say anything bad about the pictures and that I wouldn’t put them up, but now I was going to say something about how he treated me. This made it worse. He said that people always say bad things about the place and salad bar so I was probably going to also. I told him that if people are saying bad things, he should work to fix it, rather than make it worse. I asked the girl working when the owner would be in and she said that this guy is in charge. The manager asked if I wanted a number to call. I said no, why get more upset?! But my husband said that he would like the number. Here’s where the ugly face of insanity really rears its head. Mr. Crazy behind the counter then stated he specially made a pizza just for me. I told him the veggie had come out and I had two slices — there was only one or two of it left at this point, it wasn’t a pizza«just for me». I pointed this out and he told me that«people do not like vegetarian pizza» and it was a big deal for me to ask if they had any. I told him people DO like vegetarian pizza and he retorted that«no, they do not.» I actually called him insane at this point. Where did all the other slices go? I continued to keep a steady voice and say«sir» when I spoke. As we were leaving he said that next time we shouldn’t use a coupon when we come in. That $ 7 for two people was a great deal but we needed to go somewhere cheaper. I told him there won’t be a next time. He kept yelling about the coupon as we walked out. I went to the counter. The people on guard were talking to the phones. I could see my order. There was only a counter and good manners between me and pepperoni, and right then I would have eaten anything that didn’t eat me first. I drew the pizza near to me hoping to at least bask in its odor while I waited: the instant I touched it, I was angrily waved off by the she-beast closest to me. Not asked to kindly wait while she completed her phonecall, not asked for money– no– shooed off like a stray animal. Her brush-off wave was emphatic enough to make it look like she was having a seizure, so I figured that the sanctity of my order was a serious, rain-man style compulsive concern to her, and maybe she might possibly put down the phone for half a second and make sure that its safe transfer to the consumer was accomplished with appropriate dignity and speed. Also maybe if we had time left over, as a friendship building exercise, i could drop a box of toothpicks on the floor and she could instantly tell me how many there were. I figured wrong. I was studiously ignored. Instead of getting mad and pounding out the Moby Dick drum solo on the service bell, I had my friend call from the back of the restaurant. I saw a counter guy glance at me, the sole stander in line, glance at his call waiting, glance back at me, put his current call on hold and take the call. My friend said«See the guy in blue. Let him pay you for pizza.» Click. An astonished man gave me my pizza and took my money in less that 15 seconds. We left. We feasted. The gods were pleased. If by any chance you live in pleasant hill and are on the phone with your friend who works at a pizza parlor and boxes in the super-duper heavyweight division and finds adhering to the lowest standards of public chillitude an impossibility, would you mind referring to her as «rain-man» and telling her to go count a goddamn toothpick factory for me? I know it sounds mean, but it is for her own good, I promise. Speaking of good the pizza is eh. Better than dominoes and pizza hut. Worse than roundtables. All you need to know.

If you are into cardboard and sauce, here is the place. avoid the dinner buffet at all costs. pizza selection poor and pieces are cut in strips. Salad bar nothing special. And the frozen yogurt is really bad, comes out like a liquid, machine probably needs cleaned. They’ll be gone soon,

The curse of the stellar Unilocal review, Every once in a while, after you give a place five stars, it disappoints you. I ordered another pizza today. Not very good. There was hardly any cheese or sauce, and the crust was too tough. It was also covered in those bubbles you get when there’s too much air in the dough. YUCK.

Avoid! I ordered online once and they charged my card but the pizza never came. Had to go in the next day to get my refund and it was a dollar short of what my card was charged. Whatever, it’s a dollar. But the owner was there and he was just so rude about the situation. Also, the employees don’t seem very on top of personal hygiene which doesn’t make me feel good about them making my food. Another time I ordered from here, the delivery boy asked me how much i paid a month for rent. Rude much? Very unprofessional, was peeking around me looking into my apartment saying«nice place». Uh, there’s a reason I barely crack my door open for you. I don’t want a stranger in my house. The pizza was skimped on cheese and sauce… Owners cutting too many corners to save money. It’s a shame, this used to be my go to pizza place. Never again.

I love the quality of Pizza’s at this place. It is awesome! I tried their pizzas and also their custom made sandwiches, Wow! it was just great. If you like Subway, you should try sandwiches here. It is just great, fresh, and custom made! Try it and you will go to Straw hat again. I like their Buffet specials for $ 6.99 every weekday and dinner buffet on Wednesdays. It is great! Worth the price.

Pizza was tangy and crunchy! Good combo. When I saw the $ 13.99 priced pasta with meat sauce selection, I was relieved to see it was a generous family size. Not only was the pasta a considerable size, but it was baked through with cheese and everything. It usually comes with beef, but after I ordered the dude I ordered from found me a my table and explained they were running low on beef, and offered to substitute pork and chicken. Despite this hangup, still extremely good pasta. Service was friendly and snappy, too, but then again I showed up on a slow-looking day. Would visit again for a quick pizza/pasta fix that’s easy on the budget.

Quite honestly, I sorely miss the Taco Bell that used to inhabit this space, but this Straw Hat Pizza still fits and fills the bill rather nicely! I like stopping off here on my return from pedestrian trips to the nearby Office Depot store. On this trip we were greeted with a warm welcome by a particularly friendly and cheerful young man who efficiently accomodated my request to make a filling and economical menu selection to suit my limited remainder budget of less than $ 20! For a bargain $ 17.31 me and my companion were treated to a single topping LARGE pepperoni pizza PLUS a side dish of barbeque wings served piping hot at our table by a friendly Latina cook! Refills of sodas are unlimited and UN-begrudged(unlike the local chintzy KFC!!!), the place is clean and cheery, and what’s supremely important to me – almost as much as the quality of the food served – the CUSTOMERSERVICE is superb! «I hope to see you again soon!» the young man proprietor bid me a fond goodbye. Abundantly appreciated whether sincere or not; and I prefer giving the positive benefit of the doubt. He isn’t chintzy either: he won’t nickel-and-dime you to death and will return you even money for change if you happen to owe an odd amount of coins on your cash tab! Pizza here may not be the most fantastic – but at least it’s tasty and is more pizza than dough! – so it’s more than passable. For the affordable price it’s more than reasonable. And the people employed here are really trying and putting out the effort to make the customer’s experience a pleasant and enjoyable one! And that’s enough for us to look forward to returning with our custom. Frankly, I can’t figure out what some of the other whining reviewers here are moaning and groaning so pettily about. To me the sole negative point of this place’s atmosphere was the disruptively blaring sports channel wall-mounted TV. It’s rather a distracting irritant I wish they’d tone WAY down. Other than that, though, passing by this pleasing pizza-craving place would be a definite mistake!

Went for the lunch buffet because I had one of those strange cravings that had to be acted upon. When I got there, there was only one pizza on the buffet — but it wasn’t even noon yet, so no worries… surely they will bring out more, right? Basically, for the first 20 minutes, there was NOPIZZAONTHEBUFFET. Seems odd that they wouldn’t prepare for lunch, but the owner/manager dude was so busy on the phone haggling with customers that I guess he didn’t get around to making pizzas. They finally brought out another pizza — Canadian Bacon & Pineapple — Don’t get me wrong, I like Hawaiian style as much as the next guy, but if this is supposed to be a buffet, how about some more«mainstream» options? Essentially, it was like the whole restaurant chipped in $ 7.50 each to order 3 pizzas. Maybe it was a bad day, so if I get desperate I may go back to give it another shot.

I just had the most infuriating experience at this Straw Hat. We ordered a Garlicky Chicken pizza over the phone, but when we went to pick it up, the man had written down BBQ Chicken pizza instead. When we tried to explain that he misunderstood us, he refused to believe that we actually ordered the Garlicky Chicken. He literally argued with us and showed us that he wrote down BBQ, refusing to acknowledge that«Garlicky Chicken» and«BBQ Chicken» could possibly sound alike in a loud restaurant over the phone. I tried to explain that we don’t like BBQ pizza, that we never could have possibly ordered it, to which he replied, «Well this is a big waste for us, you know.» At that point, we just walked out. We could not believe that it happened! If he had just sucked it up and took the loss of one pizza, he would have seen that we were going to order salad, drinks, AND appetizers, probably making up the difference for the wasted pizza. PLUS, my boyfriend saw their sign for All You Can Eat Pizza and was going to bring his friends there before the man acted inappropriately. We literally live above the place and now we’re never going back and it’s no one’s fault but his own. I believe he was the owner/manager, too. SAD.

i’ve had straw hat pizza twice now and, although i’ve ordered the same pizza and not ventured out and tried a different one, i can say that the buffalo chicken pizza is YUMM-O-LICIOUS!!! i just ate ½ of their small(serves 1 – 2 ppl) and had to write a review STAT! i’ll start at the beginning: 1. the place is CLEAN!!! nice clean(ample) seating and they even have a flat screen TV so while you wait, you can watch some TV to pass the time(not that you need it because they are SPEEDY!). 2. they serve beer, what better to go with pizza! 3. the pizza is down right GOOD! it is loaded with toppings and their buffalo chicken is probably one of the best i’ve ever had! the small is plenty… so loaded with cheese, chicken, onions and GREAT buffalo sauce, you would think you were eating a larger slice than what it actually is. 4. service… A++++++++++. the 2 times i’ve been here, the staff is super friendly and today i was even asked if i wanted the gluten free crust. not that i need it, but for those who do, a definite benefit!!! i highly recommend the straw hat on oak rd(by 680 in the 7 – 11& subway).

I move to the area here recently and found this nice pizza place close by. I have been to the place many times now and decided to write a review. First. They have the most friendliest staff ever! Everyone is super nice and they make sure you’re satisfied. I will explain my few visits. –They had never messed up on my order. The only thing is she forgot to bring us the water with our appetizer. I reminded her and she went and poured the water herself and brought it to our table. That says a lot since its a place your suppose to make your own drinks. –I brought my dog with us and we sit outside to eat lunch this time. The same lady was very friendly and brought out a bowl of water for my puppy. Was super sweet of her. –Tonight I went again and the service was great. The guy that was cooking came up to me and ask was it okay if he makes the small pizza instead of the individual. I guess they must had ran out? It was great because they didn’t turn around and charge me extra for the small pizza. I had some places actually do this. The pizza place feels like a family pizza restaurant. Second. How is the food? Its great! We usually get a small chicken with bell peppers pizza. Tonight I decided to get something different. I ordered the roast beef sandwich and loved it! I think it might be one of my favorites now. Third. The pricing? Well, its not super cheap like your fast food pizza. I say its reasonable because they are serving organic pizza which is always a plus in my book. Thanks for reading my review. I hope you enjoy the Straw Hat Pizza in Walnut Creek just as much as I do.

ONLY2 stars because * right order * clean place For $ 23 my chicken bacon ranch would have been bettter spent at the 7 – 11 or subway next door. It’s been years and years since I’ve had gross pizza. The flavor was really dull sauce has almost no flavor. If you put red peepers on it you taste red peppers and bread. Its like a very lite cheese tomato bacon open pita. Dry but some bites have more flavor just none of a chicken bacon ranch pizza I’ve ever eatten. Lets put it this way its less flavorful than a california pizza kitchen frozen pizza you cook. At this point I want to give it to someone so it doesn’t go to waste. Funny when I walked in I didnt smell pizza. Dammit I placed a phone order. I’m bummed to right this review because their so close by. HANDSDOWNROUNDTABLEISBETTER

When did this place open? I was invited to Dinner and I thought they meant the one located on Monument. No, meet me at the one in Pleasant Hill. Where the Heck is that? Apparently, there is one in the Subway and 7 – 11 shopping center. This location is about 3 months old and they have a Tower 27 Yogurt shop attached. You can get get the normal Pizza, Salad, Wings, or Pasta and finish up with a self– serve Yogurt shop with all the toppings. I had not had Straw Hat since I was 8 Years old and wasn’t allowed back because my Mom banned me from the place. We had recently won 1 game the whole year on my Pee Wee Soccer League. The Coach took us out for a Pizza Party, and I ate so much; that I was Sick the whole next day from overeating. I went last night for Dinner with Family and ordered the Med. Pizza with Pepperoni, Mushrooms on a Original Thin Crust. We also ordered the Appetizer Combo that consists of BBQ Wings, Potato Wedges, and Twists. We added the Fried Green Beans at the last minute. The place is very Clean and the guy behind the counter was very Friendly, and Helpful. They have a Salad Bar and the Fountain Drinks are Coke with that new Iced Tea Selection machine. The Pizza was good as well as the Appetizers. Did not have a chance to try out Yogurt but here are the flavors I saw: Cable Car Chocolate, Strawberry, Pistachio, Carrot Cake, Cheesecake, and 2 other I can’t remember. There is one thing I tried and forgot to mention. They have a Hot Hat which is like a cross between a Calzone and a Hot Pocket. My friend ordered a Roast Beef Hot Hat and it was good. Melted Mozzarella, with Bell Peppers and that Warm Crust with Sesame seeds. They have Ham and Cheese, Pastrami, Pepperoni, and they come with Potato Wedges. They have Specials like a Salad Bar and Yogurt with drink for $ 5.99. With the Flat Screen playing sports, and a Soccer Team, it has a Sports Bar Theme. They do not have a Liquor license as of yet, but they will soon. One last note, they have Free-Wi-Fi and it is accessible if you buy something. Next time, I’ll either get a Pastrami Hot Hat or the Salad– Fro Yo Bar.
