Great and clean place. Good service and the same delicious pot as what I had in China. Definitely will come around again!

Three stars is for the taste. The food is good, fresh and tasty. It’s just the price, too high for too little food and the food is just ordinary. Yes they serve in a special way, letting you see the procedure of cook. But why? What’s the meaning of that? That does not make food better. Customers care about freshness and taste and safety, and last not the least, price. I can’t tell the difference from other restaurants, no matter from the taste or the food type. I ordered beef, which comes with a lot of onion and garlic. And that costs you over 40 before tax. Don’t mention the grilled food, way too pricy with small amount of food. I can just say, if you r interested in the way of serving food, then one time is enough. For me, I won’t go because there is nothing attracting me

Came here at a late night time because no other restaurants around was still open at that time. Don’t know what to expect because this restaurant is super new to us. When we were seated, they gave us two menus, one menu is for their simmer pot and the other one is about Chinese Skewers and Malatang(Basically Veggies in their special spicy soup I think?) We ordered their beef short ribs pot with their homemade spicy sauce medium spicy. So damn good! The way it cooked in front of us is funny, never seen before. The pot is 42 bucks fit for four of us, which is fair. We also ordered lamb skewers and duck tongue skewers. They were also good but I like their simmer pot more. Will be back when I am in this area.

I heard this place couple months ago and finally found a time to try it out tonight. First, it has a classy interior left me a deep impression because the plaza looks Old and quiet. They are kind of busy but they have a lot of tables so it didn’t take us a long time to get a table. Since this is our first time here, we ordered the beef set pot and add the combine mushrooms in. We had chosen their homemade original sauce that will satisfied all of us because I cannot eat spicy. I prefer this kind of eating style, although my friend thought it’s limited and not too much choices. They also have a single menu for late night hours that sells Chinese skewers and Malatang. But we didn’t get a chance to try it this time because we were so full with the pot. I will definitely come back to try other items next time.

Honestly, it taste so bad, and the price is extremely not worthy it, I ordered the seafood package, it only comes with six shrimps and some meatballs

Sunday night hanging out with friends here because this place satisfy our different needs. Some of us would like to have simmer pot, some want skewers and some want Malatang. We are a group of 10 people. We ordered two simmer pots and a lot of their skewers. My friends really like their chicken soft cap bone skewers, chicken gizzard skewers, and BBQ eggplant. They have a big dinning room that includes many large tables. A really nice place to hang out with friends. Highly recommend.

Came here with my co-workers. We ordered the seafood one(海鲜什锦锅). The food literally just covered the bottom of wok. We have to order a lot of other thing to make us full, I really don’t think it worth the money.

Last time I came was during their soft opening period, they are busy and kind of messy. We tried their live catfish pot but their sauce is kind of light with the fish. This time I came, we ordered their mix mushroom pot with original sauce. Much better than last time I came. I believe they must adjust their sauce a bit and they are doing much steady and better right now. Servers are skillful and polite. They dress neatly with their logo shirt. The place is also clean and bright. Very comfortable. Nice second experience.

This one star is not for food. It is for their horrible service. It’s my first time here. When I came into the store, I was waiting to be seated. However, I noticed that one waiter was ordering for other customers which was understandable. After that, he told us to wait a second. However, 10 minutes passed. No one came to us. We were still standing in front of the front door. The waiter kept entering the order to computer and ignoring us. It made me so mad. There were plenty of empty tables. I did not get it. Didn’t your manager tell you how to serve customers? Didn’t you know that what’s the procedure to serve in a restaurant? There’s no way you kept your customer standing in front of the front door for that long and no one even talked to them! I WOULDNEVERBEHEREAGAIN! MANAGER, HIRESOMEONEWHOKNOWSHOWTOBE A WAITER!

We had a friendship reunion and finally picked this place since it is right in the middle from where we all live. This restaurant is famous simmer pot brand from China and it is the flagship in the US. We ordered their combination pot with homemade spicy sauce extra spicy(their sauce is not as spicy as Sichuan or Hunan restaurant, so don’t worry). Although it is very simple as we can only choose one sauce per pot, I have to say the taste is pretty good. I can even taste some herbal in the pot making me feel healthy lol. We also ordered some items from their late night menu with some skewers and Malatang. They were pretty good, specially lamb skewers and ball sausage and grilled oysters. Will be back soon.

Opted to customize my own pot. Basic veggie pot with a variety of 10 veggies $ 9.98. Added beef short ribs $ 8.75, king oyster mushroom $ 3.95, and quail egg $ 5.25 with their homemade spicy sauce(mild). They charge $ 1.00 for white rice( ) & $ 1.50 for brown rice( ). It took less than 10 minutes for everything to cook. The sauce was tasty and I loved drenching my rice in the sauce. Loved the sweet potatoes and the whole garlic cloves. Attentive service. The only thing I’m annoyed about is the measly amount of short«ribs» they give you. Literally, it’s just ONE piece of a short rib. My dining companion & I looked at each other like … that’s it? For $ 8.75? Just look at the meat in this picture( ).

Not bad but nothin special in my opinion. We got a customized pot, They only have 3 choices for sauces. I opted for spicy. It just tastes like your own customized kung pao chicken cept instead of the usual stuff you can put in all kinds of different ingredients. We put in lamb, beef, roe balls, fish balls, lotus, and baby corn. Total came out to 55 including tax, which is not bad since it can feed 4 people. The reason why i dont think its special is cause it reminds me too much of stir fry. Overall, nothing was bad but its nothin crazy enough for me to come back for. BTW they have skewers, those might be good but i didnt get to try.

1.5 stars Meh, I feel like I have been tricked by Unilocal reviews again. The first warning sign was when our server kept urging us to check-in and write a review about our meal in the store in order to receive a free drink. Well, I’m thirsty, so just charge me for the drink. They have the usual checklist full of meats, seafood, veggies, carbs. There’s limited to no appetizers other than the ones that are complementary. My partner enjoyed those sides. We ordered lamb, short rib, lotus root, mushroom medley, and some other veggies with the original sauce. When they brought the pot over and filled it up with veggies on the bottom and meat on the top, my partner and I stared for a good while. There was ONE piece of Korean short rib which they charged nearly 10 $ for. It was a regular quality piece too-not the high quality marbled type you find in the grocery store. There were a few slices of lamb, and the rest were all veggies. The taste — bland and boring even after letting it sit to reduce for fifteen minutes. It tastes like the sauce was made from sugar, hoisin, soy sauce, water, and cornstarch. By the 5th bite, I regret my choice of eating at this restaurant. –Service — friendly, which is why they get a +0.5 stars. –Our bill came up to be $ 58. My partner and I had unusual stomach pain for the whole night afterward. Conclusion: NO. I will not return. Nononononononono. It has become a new trend where restaurants put up signs in Chinese asking patrons to write reviews on the spot for free food and drinks, and it is making Unilocal less reliable for honest reviews.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a Simmer Pot before. I think I kind of like it. I guess I’ll go ahead and tell you about this new dish that I never had before. New to Walnut and the Vons plaza. My friend wanted Hot Pot and we came here expecting that. Now I don’t want to say they don’t have hot pot, because they do. but you probably won’t end up getting it. The reason is hot pot is like course number 2. if you manage to get there. What happens is there’s a shared pot in the middle of the table. It already comes with a set of veggies, you select the sauce you want, and up to 6 items(meats, mushrooms, etc.) We chose the Original House Sauce, Rib Eye Meat, Beef Meatballs, Fish Balls, Assorted Mushrooms, and something else I can’t remember. So it comes out they pour all the veggies and items you order into the pot, puts a lid on it and let’s it simmer! After 15 minutes they come back and pour the sauce you chose in(looks like a thick oyster looking sauce) and then it simmers for 3 more minutes. After this you have yourself a big pot of goods to eat, family style. Now if you are still hungry after finishing your big pot of goods, I think you can choose to get hot pot. I believe they use the same pot at your table with all the goods that have been simmered. We were too full so we chose not to. Service was pretty good, a lot of servers working so it wasn’t a problem waving someone down. I do think this meal was sort of pricey though. Like the items do add up, we ended up paying around $ 25ish a person with 3 people but we did get drinks as well.

I’ve lived near Walnut most of my life and a lot of restaurants come and go so I like to support my local businesses and try them whenever a new one opens. What I can say about HJH is that they did a really good job with this place. It’s clean, the people working there were very nice/knowledgeable, the food itself was very good, and the idea of the hotpot at your table was really cool. I’ve never tried something like this before so it was completely new to me and I was very pleased. Overall, I was very happy with my experience and I would definitely go back. Good job HJH. Thanks

Pretty cool concept of a «dry pot», but pretty salty as well. I left this place feeling extremely«thirsty!» Lol. Literally. I believe their price point is on the higher end? It’s definitely worth a try! They make this thick paste or sauce in front of you that goes over the dry pot. I think that was the extreme culprit of salt haha. Maybe it’s soybean base? I do like that these pots you can share. Not your typical shabu place.
