This place is a hole in the wall. My grandparents are Chinese Indonesian so Indonesian food are no strangers to me. The owner is really nice and came to greet us and chatted with us about the food menu. For appetizer, I got the pork sate and 1 resole and 1 kroquet. The owner allow the mix and match or the resole and kroquet since they are the same price and comes with 2 pieces each. I prefer the kroquet more because I don’t like dough much. Both are good in my opinion. The sate is juicy and tender but I think it is lacking a little flavor if you don’t eat it with the peanut sauce. For entrée I got the fish filet with baloda sauce which is very unique. The sauce is yummy and not too spicy. Also had the fried rice which is also very tasty. Next time I am planning to try some more authentic Indonesian food like londong, soto ayam and gado gado

1st time having Indonesian cuisine. The décor is cute, they tried. I love the mom & pop feel to this spot. The waiters genuine enthusiasm was contagious & warm. + The LAMB sate is delicious, tender & juicy. + HOMEMADE chilli paste condiment on the table, spicy & flavorful. + Peanut sauce is delicious.(I’d buy it, if they sold it separately) I wasn’t the biggest fan of some other dishes we tried(hells if I remember the name) something with noodles & shrimp, something wrapped in a banana leaf, but my boyfriend LOVED it, all of it. So, yeah. Different strokes for different folks. Lot’s of spicy & sweet flavors going on.

First time here and 4 stars is for the food. This is my second time eating Indonesian food at a sit down restaurant. I ordered the lamb satay, gado gado and sambal shrimp with stink bean in coconut curry. Lamb satay was good but a bit sweet. Gado gado salad was also good and unique. It has bean sprout cabbage tofu egg and top with peanut dressing. Sambal shrimp with pete(stinky bean) curry was excellent. The stink bean makes the dish so unique, and the coconut curry is so rich and flavorful. Definitely come back to try more food. The restaurant is really small and they take cash only. The customer services was not that good. The guy who took our order didn’t explain or answer our question about dishes that we want to try. And they rushed us to pay and box our stuff togo because it was 9: 10pm and they closed at 9pm. Well, maybe wait 10 mins after closing is a big deal for them. So yeah, 1 stars for customer services.

I would say the food was average maybe a 3.5, but definitely not a 4. I tried three different dishes and I can say that I don’t see myself craving the food offered here in the future. It is still a good mom pop restaurant with friendly service.

I’ve been here at least 5 times. High quality food and service. The employees are nice. Parking spaces are usually available. They sometimes deviate from their normal hours though, so be sure to call in before driving over. Will be coming here again.

Another great«family run» restaurant in the area with the nicest people. The only difference to others is that the food does taste really good here. Tried the nasi remes(closest dish selection to nasi campur which is no longer on the menu) and was pleasantly surprised by the«not 100% but still enjoyable» authentic flavor. I’ve been to many Indo restos in different cities across the U.S. where every dish ended up being too sweet and/or blend influenced by local demand.(some even tasted like panda express) I even ordered soto ayam(would not recommend; reason behind not giving 5 stars on this review) for takeout while excitedly consuming nasi remes. Very happy to have found this hidden gem and will keep coming back to try other dishes. Fyi, nasi bungkus is only available on certain days(they have it written on the wall) and most people seem to order for takeout so there’s plenty of seats available.

This is the best satay meal in the area !! I enjoy the chicken satay with both plain rice or rice cake with peanut sauce. The owner himself is very friendly and his wife is the cook.

Our first time trying Indonesian food. Restaurant was fairly full Sunday afternoon at 1:30PM. The restaurant is in a very small shopping complex. If you drive too fast on Nogales, you will miss it. We ordered the following items. Chicken fried rice. Lamb Sate Chicken Sate Chicken Risoles Appetizers Fried fish 1 Order Fries. 2 Cokes. Total came to $ 45.00 with tax. Pros: All items were delicious. I got the Chicken fried rice extra spicy, and it had a nice kick to it.(+1) Very generous portions with all their items. Each and every item was more in quantity than what we were expecting due to the listed price. I was stuffed yet half the fish, all of the Lamb Sate, and half of the chicken rice were left over.(+1) Cons: Only one person was tending to all patrons. There was probably a 5 minute delay to take our order due to this. However, the meals were prepared very fast making up lost time. They ran out of the weekend special(Nasi Bungkus). This was one of the reasons I selected this restaurant(–1) All and all, we were happy that Unilocal guided us to this Indonesian restaurant. I will definitely be back to check out their weekend special item.

Being of Indonesian decent, I’m always looking out for good Indo restaurants and this is one of the best I have been too. I went here with my dad and we both shared the lamb sate, pork sate, and the nasi bungkus. The sate was definitely the star of the show with the pork being my favorite. I found the nasi bungkus to be flavorful but the meat included lacked some tenderness. However, the service was extremely friendly and warm, and our water glasses were never left empty. I also got cendol(sweet jelly drink) and it was tasted authentic and delicious. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a good Indonesian spot around the West Covina area.

The staff here is so super sweet. And they speak like 10 languages. It’s a very small place with maybe 5 tables, but it wasn’t packed, even during lunchtime on Sunday. I did see a lot of people order to go and they were in and out quick status. Resole and kroket — I don’t remember which was which, but I liked them both differently. I wanna say I liked the one with chicken more. Chicken sate — goes great with the peanut and sate sauce. Nasi bungkus — I reeeeally loved this dish. It has fried rice, noodles, hardboiled egg, BBQ chicken, green beans all wrapped inside a banana leaf. It was like unwrapping a present on Christmas! They only make it on the weekends, which is probably the only time I’d come. Fish in coconut sauce — we just kinda showed a picture to them and they knew exactly what it was. They don’t mess around with their spice, so if you can’t handle spicy food, you should stick with mild first. The coconut sauce went very well with our fried rice from the banana leaf. Parking is also a breeze.

My boyfriend is Dutch Indonesian so him and his whole family are always going on and on about the food and this restaurant in particular. After listening to all of the yammering this became the number one thing on my list to do while we were in California, as we don’t have anything like it in Denver. A little hole in the wall, this place will make you feel good the second you walk in. The man in the front of the house immediately recognized my boyfriend’s cousin, and tried to figure out who my boyfriend’s parents were(who he ended up knowing well). In a turn of crazy coincidence, he pointed out that the family at a table next to us were related to them– the woman’s father was their Opa’s brother! Where else in the world could that happen? The food was absolutely amazing and there really is nothing else like it. I am not going to pretend to know the names of anything they ordered, as I had the boy’s who somewhat speak the language take care of that. I will say the Sate(we had the pork) was INSANE. The peanut sauce was perfection, with just the right hint of peanut flavor. My goodness, please eat that. Also, the noodles that I don’t know how to spell but sounds like Bami Ghorang were phenomenal, and plentiful in vegetables. Add some of that Sambel(again with the spelling, no idea) to give a super good kick. Now I can finally fit in and know what they are all talking about when they describe how amazing the food of their home countries are, and I guarantee I will be stopping here every time I’m in California! If you are looking for some amazing food with absolutely exceptional service and a welcoming vibe, you should, too.

I came here on a whim. I have never had Indonesian food before and this was a very good sample to their cuisine. I ordered: –chicken satay: 6 skewers of chicken. So good and so flavorful. –nasi goreng(Indonesian fried rice): I ordered it medium spicy and it had a good kick. This was as good as fried rice could get. It was topped with an egg which made it even better. –nasi bungkus: This is a dish that is only served on the weekend. It tastes like Indonesia. Very fragrant, very pungent, and very unfamiliar. Rice, noodles, a chicken leg, and a number of different proteins are all rolled up in banana leaves and cooked. I’m ambivalent about the dish only because it was my first time trying it. Adventurous? Try it. A little weary? Try other things. My three dishes came to a grand total of 27(ish) dollars and fed my dad, mom, sister and myself. Just the exposure to a new cuisine without spending a ton of money and having everything authentically prepared is well worth a visit.

I love how much this place reminds me of the food in Malaysia. It almost reminds me of home-cooked food. Absolutely love how friendly the owners are. Love the Cha Kangkung and their Nasi Goreng!

This place is AMAZING, the owner was very nice and considerate. Their service maybe a little slow but this clearly states that it’s family own, so great food in return for somewhat slow service. Either way their fried rice is an amazing specialty. The lamb satay was tender and juicy and their potato balls were exceptional. Even though this place should find a better location, where it can be clearly seen, this place is an amazing secret little gem of Walnut. Definitely will recommend others to come.

This was my first time eating Indonesian food I went to this part of Los Angeles because I had a day off from work so I wanted to hang out with my friends who lives here. Also, I wanted to try Indonesian food. I’ve always wanted to try it but unfortunately, San Diego has no Indonesian restaurants. I’ve had this place bookmarked for a while and now I finally had the opportunity to go here This restaurant is a little tricky to find but once you find it, you’re in for a treat. Looking at the entrance and the menu, it made me believe that this is run by Chinese Indonesians. The entrance has Chinese characters and in the menu, I noticed that they serve pork. For those who aren’t aware, Indonesia has the world’s largest Muslim population and Muslims are not allowed to eat pork. Most Chinese Indonesians are not Muslims and Chinese cuisine has many pork dishes(Cha siu bao being one of my favorites). Anyways, to stay on topic, I ordered«Nasi Goreng» which literally translates to «fried rice» in Indonesian. Some people consider it Indonesia’s «national dish.» It tasted incredible. It reminds me of that Korean dish«kimchi bokkeumbap» or better known as «kimchi fried rice» just without the spam. The dish made me feel full and satisfied. It actually lasted all day which means, portion size here is awesome considering the price(it’s less than ten dollars). This restaurant is awesome. Next time I’m in the area, I’ll be back here to try the other dishes they serve

I literally come here only for the Indonesian fried rice. And maybe the sate, but mainly for the Indonesian fried rice. This place is a mom-and-pop restaurant. I think the husband is the waiter/server and the wife cooks in the kitchen. The décor is a bit outdated, but I don’t think the atmosphere is what you should be looking for when you come here. The fried rice is seriously some the tastiest fried rice I’ve ever had. There’s none of that bland, white, crap sprinkled with peas and carrots that’s served at Chinese restaurants. The fried rice here is dark brown, oily, spicy, and packed with flavor! The meat served in it is superb as well — the shrimp, chicken, and pork are all good. It’s also topped with an egg, which is basically a plus to any dish. Also, I think 2 people can share this dish and get fairly full because portions be huge. My family is also a pretty big fan of the pork and chicken sate here. It’s really tasty with the peanut dipping sauce, and the meat is juicy. I tend to go for the chicken because it’s healthier, but the pork definitely tastes better IF you don’t mind consuming all that fat. Cons, it doesn’t come with rice so it’ll cost extra if you order it, which I still advise. I’ve tried other things on the menu, which I didn’t care for. Maybe I’m just not a fan of Indonesian food… I tend to not care for foods that are sweet & spicy, which they have a lot of. But the fried rice and sate still warrant 5 stars from me.

Hands down, the hardest place to get food from. Maybe it’s me, but it seems that every time I want to get food from this place, they are always closed. Monday, Tuesday, After 8, after 9 on weekends. Man, I can’t work with those hours. I’m always tryna go on a Tuesday or 8:15 on a Wednesday. WTF right? But I was lucky enough to have eaten here twice. That’s 2 out of like 15 attempts. And luckily this place has bomb food. +Lamb satay After reading a few people of my Unilocal friends reviews, had to try the Lamb satay, ’cause I love lamb. Dare I say the best dang lamb satay ever? Maybe because I’ve never previous had satay lamb heh. +Indonesian fried rice There are so many variations! And of course you gotta order the fried rice. This is my favorite rice dish at those Hong Kong Cafes, and the real deal is even better. Spicy, savory, and that fried egg on top. This dish KILLS it for me. Definitely worth coming for if you aren’t on a carb free diet. +Other dishes I’ve tried were chicken satay, fried fish filet, and the Kroket. The chicken had delicious charred notes that you would find anywhere else around town, fried fish was nice and crispy, paired very well with an aromatic spicy sauce, and the kroket is a very hearty fried ball of mashed potato and meat stuffing. Imagine shepherds pie, covered with panko and deep fried, it’s great. +Sweets While looking at the drink menu, you have no idea what the drink might taste like, here’s a tip, just roll those dice. Chances are in your favor. Most drinks are very good if you don’t mind coconut. Service is superb, the uncle in the front is very kind and considerate. The auntie in the back really makes you feel at home. When you are in the 626 East, look at the time, if you are lucky enough, you might just be able to have a taste at this hidden gem of Indonesian cuisine.
