Very nice place to grab a drink or a bite and relax. My friend and I ate inside and ended up finishing a drink outside on their lounge sofas. Dinner: pizza, organic chicken entrée, tiramisu for dessert, and the cucumber smash for a drink On this particular Saturday night that we went on the place was not busy at all. It took our food a pretty long time to come out. The pizza was good. It better have been good for $ 16. The organic chicken entrée was absolutely delicious. The chicken was spiced to perfection and came with a cilantro sauce that was so yummy. I hate slaw but whatever they put in theirs will bring me back just to have it. The drink was not watered down but for $ 12 for a smalllllll glass that was filled 2/3rds of the way… I didn’t expect them to skimp on the liquor. The cucumber smash was not sweet at all… tasted like unsalted bitter pickle juice. :shudders: Nasty! The waitress was not great at all… she did not come around but one time out of 2+ hours. Very inattentive. I would give this place 3.5 stars if I could because of her lack of service. Overall, a nice place. Not loud and obnoxious… Good food but not the best service. The menu is somewhat limited in my opinion when it comes to entrees. Just a handful to choose from.

My friends and I arrived for dinner on a Friday night to celebrate a 21st birthday. After being carded and receiving our drinks, the manager came over and asked each of us individually if we were 21. He then proceeded to force the three members of our party that were underage to raise their hands. Everyone who was drinking was of age and had been carded, but he insisted that none of us were allowed to order any more drinks and that one person would be footing the bill. The food was good, and our server was nice, but the manager was rude, out-of-line, and inappropriate. As another reviewer said, «worst guy I’ve ever met.»

I wish I could give them negative stars. I am looking for a legal way to make a complaint as well. My experience at barcode couldn’t be worse. I bought a groupon for dinner and made a reservation through Unilocal for 11:00PM. I was a little late and reached at around 11:13PM. After the rude bouncer allowed us to enter the place after literally interrogating us about our belongings like my purse, etc, we went in and asked the manager for a table for two. He said«Mam I can get you a table only if you are not using a discount coupon». I told him that the fine print on my groupon does not say anything like that and I will use it. So he said you should have made a reservation with us. I said I did through Unilocal(showed him the email). Here is the ridiculous part, he says, «NOWEDON’T CAREABOUT UnilocalRESERVATIONS. Unilocal is just some website for reviews. We only accept opentable.» And then he was super rude to me and said good night mam and walked away. He was one of the worst guys I have ever met. Please don’t even bother going to this place. The ambience was so cheap I never expected a DC bar to be like that. I got my groupon refunded and got my complaint escalated as well.

Wow so impressed! This place was a lot of fun! We went for a late dinner and I got the pesto pasta(amazing!!) it was so good my friend had some of mine and loved it too! Our drinks were delicious and definitely not light on the alcohol, our bills were much cheaper than we expected so they have very affordable prices! They eventually moved the tables out of the middle section and it turned into a dance floor with a DJ and everything. Our server was great and made sure we had drinks and water refills. I accidentally left my credit card here, ended up cancelling it and later called to confirm. They were very honest and kept it but since I’m from out of town I asked them to shred it. Thanks for being honest and I would gladly visit again or recommend this place!

Wonderful place for happy hour especially in this gorgeous weather out on the patio! They have a lot of seating on the patio so large groups can meet up. You can order bottles of wine, specialty cocktails, snacks, meals… Everything is very good and they are quite fast! Inside is fantastic too. Plenty of seating and very spacious. They also sometimes turn the restaurant into a dance floor on the weekends. Word of warning the ground can be very slippery. I slipped and dislocated/tore me knee pretty badly. Someone had spilled a drink and that was that. But it could happen ANYWHERE…

The Sunday brunch is AMAZING!!! The music, food choices and inside seating is amazing. I was a little annoyed that they placed me outside when there were plenty of open seats inside. Tony, was very welcoming and offered good customer service.

It wasn’t too packed tonight and they played good music. I mainly come here because the food is actually good. Especially the salmon. It’s is my favorite salmon dish EVER from all the seafood places I’ve eaten at. I highly recommend it!

I like that place I was there 1 time at the summer but just drink couple Mojitos and hookah. That time I eaten salad — was one of the best salad that I ever have! So tasty! The waiter was very patient and nice. Except the another part of the staff, but who cares! Great job! I will come back for more haha!

We came to barcode for a few drinks after work one day. The place is near my office, so it was convenient on a cold day when we couldn’t decide on anywhere specific to go. I tried a couple different cocktails — the blackberry mule and the pimm’s No. 1 cup — both of which were very sweet. We also tried a few appetizers — the bruschetta was good, the guacamole dip«tuscan-style» was really just sort of bland guac. Overall it was fine, and it’s conveniently located, but not a place I’d seek out.

The bar is spacious. The drinks were small though. We came after the happy hour. So I don’t know if that’s a better vibe. When we got there around 9 pm, we immediately wanted to run in the opposite direction. Think older men trying to be cool and desperate women trying to hard. Not my style. Pass.

I’ve been working in the area for the last 4 years, and have had my share of experiences at Barcode: lunch, dinner and happy hour. A few suggestions: IF you choose to do happy hour, get there as early as possible, and either snag a seat at the bar or outside. Otherwise, your experience will be terrible because everyone around you will be a jerk. I cannot stress this enough: the patrons of this place are pretty terrible. Also, they won’t let you sit at a booth during happy hour, even if it’s totally empty. They’re going to force you to eat dinner: even at 4 pm. Lunch can be a decent deal. Their turkey burger is pretty tasty. Dinner is not worth it. The furniture in this place has been trashed, so if you’re paying for a nice dinner, go somewhere else. Also, as previously noted, the other patrons are obnoxious. TL;DR come for happy hour beer deals($ 3 drafts of crafts!), get there early, don’t waste your money on dinner.

I’ve never eaten here but I can tell you that the ½ priced bottles of wine on Tuesday nights until close will keep me coming back. There are few deals better than this in DC for a happy(5) hour. Service was on point this past Tuesday. Steadily keeping my water glass filled and ensuring our group of 7 was never in need of anything. I definitely be back again — and maybe next time I’ll try the food.

And the food was amazing. We had such a hard time trying to figure out what to order because everything sounded so good. Will definitely be back. Thanks for the great experience guys. :))

This bar is really not very good; the stars awarded are are contingent on the awardatation of the a forementioned bourbon they served me. I was encrumbiously misled by a review by an «Elite Unilocaler» who really did not know what she was talking about. A few salient points one should be made aware of: 1) the promotion advertised on Unilocal for 20% off only applies between 2 and 4 pm; 2) there is no bar railing with which to hang one’s coat; and/or 3) the walls change colour at random. Pay heed to the fellow who noticed a live cockroach here and do not come here. Go almost anywhere else.

Now this what you call a 5 star lunch outing! My initial plan was to come to the city for a meeting, grab a soup/salad & be on my way back to the homeland. However, my meeting partner suggested lunch & something aside from the salad & or quick meal norm… hence, we ended up here. A 1 block walk from her office, an extra blessing due to the weather & walking. I followed her lead, as we walked in, & was warmly greeting by the Host. She stated we did not have reservations, & he said, no worries, welcome. We sat on the other side of the bar in the dining area, with a nice view of the restaurant. Our server was Apostle & was on his A-Game as soon as we sat down. My 1st time here, so I took a few minutes extra to look over the menu. In the interim, Apostle was kind enough to make some dietary inquiries on my behalf & after his expedient seek & answer, I was ready to order. I started with the Bluefin Tuna Ceviche, that came with Avocado, Cucumber, Sesame, Scallions, a very delicious Yuzu Citrus Soy & Seaweed. The presentation was almost as good as the taste. My luncheon companion started off with the Cheese Board, that had a nice variety of Taleggio, Drunken Goat, Pecorino cheeses, with a few garnishes of Strawberries & dates, served with Focaccina Bread. The Chef makes it hard to decide as the Small Plates selection is varied by awesome concoctions. I’ve got my eyes on the Fire Roasted Whole Artichoke & Avocado Dip with a Tuscan Flair on my next visit. We ended up both ordering the Grilled Salmon, I had mine blackened, & she had her’s medium rare. Both entrée’s were accompanied by Grilled Asparagus, cherry tomatoes that were sliced in half & drizzled in basil & balsamic… savory delictable! Apostle’s table service was«bar» none amazing, as he stopped by right on cue each time. He knew the menu very well, & what he wasn’t sure on, he had no issues in stepping away to confer with the Chef. I had the pleasure in meeting the General Manager or perhaps the Owner, Kourosh Shah, as he came over to speak to me about my dietary allergens. He was extremely kind & proactive on my behalf. He even brought out our main courses, to boot. The interior layout did not disappoint, with the dark wood color tones & furniture, really gave off a sleek So-Ho type of flair. What a phenomenal way to end a business meeting while enduring the extreme cold weather, by enjoying an outstanding lunch that was so delicious, with superb service. I concur 100% on why this top notch restraint won a 2015 award for Best Diner’s Choice. Kudos Kourosh & Team Bar Code, let’s do it again for 2016.

This place is suffering an identity crisis. Is it a restaurant? A bar? A club? It’s a weird mix. Our server was indifferent. Not rude. Not friendly. Just there, doing her job. We ordered the whole artichoke and a pizza. The artichoke wasn’t cooked all the way, so we had to send it back. We ordered the avocado dip and pita bread instead, which was much better. The pizza was meh — just pizza. I’ve honestly had frozen that was just as good, if not better. While we ate, we were surrounded by at least 8 servers with nothing to do. I’d guess this is probably a good place to hang out and drink with a group of friends, but I wouldn’t recommend going for a nice, relaxing dinner.

After happy hour they remove the bar stools and you have no where to sit at the bar. I went to the bar and noticed two seats. One seat was empty and when my friend decided to sit there one of the bartenders said that seat was taken by someone with a birthday. The person was no where insight and I found it odd they allowed two stools for someone with a birthday. The bartenders were joking amongst themselves were not attentive. I thought this place was more of a happy hour location, but I’ve been here twice for lunch during the week and have been pleasantly surprised. They have a good sized menu and lots of seating. I tried pizza once, and then the mahi mahi sandwich and steak the next time. Everything was seasoned well and cooked well. I was surprised at how well cooked the fish and steak we got were. I would go again.

Love their happy hour! It’s a great place for an after-work drink. Their pizzas are really tasty, too. The service is usually pretty slow, though, and it always takes some extra effort to get the bill at the end. A tip: if you want to sit at a table, order food. Otherwise you might get stuck in the bar area, which is big but doesn’t have much seating. Also, it’s really loud, even when there’s not a big crowd.

Honestly the worst place ever My daughter wanted to have a Birthday brunch here and man was this place out of my element. The Bellini’s and Mimosas were weak so weak I asked for 2 at a time and still not even a mini buzz The food was why it got 2 stars. The most un classy skankiest looking ladies decided they wanted to celebrate too. If I could have taken pictures without breaking my camera I would have. The ghetto of the most ghetto came out this same day and the vibe was a ‘do you’ kind of vibe. Do people not look in the mirror before going out? Did these ladies not have mothers to teach them how to dress appropriately? These are grown women and I’m assuming this is what the night vibe is too. Ugh as for me I’m not stuck up I just don’t want to see see thru clothes on women who weigh 300+ and look like they just woke up and smell :0(not something I wanted to look at while I eat

I came here for a friend’s birthday celebration. It is a nice, chill spot but also a typical bar/lounge. The DJ did a great job on the 1s and 2s. The food at brunch was really good and I loved the variety of choices. I loved that bottomless mimosas were also included in the deal. Like other reviewers, I thought it was weird that you had to pay for the hookah in cash due to some policy(I barely carry cash so it was inconvenient). The customer service was good but turned terrible towards the end. While we were seated at our table, one of the employees(security) came over and told us that we had to leave because they needed to prepare for another party. We told him that we had until 8pm to leave our table(it was almost 7pm) but he said it didn’t matter and still proceeded to be rude. That made us feel like we weren’t valued and it was very unprofessional. We paid for a service and should’ve been able to enjoy it. Luckily another employee came over and told us that we were right and didn’t have to move. I give them rtwo stars because of that bad situation.

Loved coming for happy hour! Their Thursday special is ½ off drinks and ½ off pizzas. It was very crowded and there’s limited seating for happy hour so I would recommend getting there pretty early. I enjoyed my cava rose but definitely didn’t get a buzz off of it. The glass seemed smaller than normal. However their pizza was outstanding! I will definitely be going back to try other specials. We got the one with prosciutto and white cheese. I loved the arugula dressed in lemon juice on top. It added a nice peppery and bright finish to the pizza. I can’t think of better pizza topping combinations. It went great with a glass of wine :) Can’t wait to come back.

The most fascinating people watching and the cheapest drinks in town. Barcode has become our office’s default happy hour spot due to its proximity and prices. The price point results in a decidedly less upscale clientele than you would see at many nearby establishments. The downside of this is the highest concentration of cigarette smokers of any DC patio, while the upside is the people watching. From girls you know are going to a shift at Archibald’s pounding shots at 4:00 pm to guys who look like they are filming a reality tv bachelor party in Miami, it’s bizarrely captivating but can quickly become a bit much if you stay too late(read: past 8:00-ish on Thursday). I can’t even imagine what I would be like coming here on a weekend. If the food and the completely unnecessary bathroom attendant is taken into consideration barcode probably deserves to lose a star, however three stars for an always entertaining happy hour.

It’s literally taken me like a month to write this review. I normally write reviews for the businesses I’m excited for. So let me get straight it it. Basically it’s an average bar/lounge/club. It’s cool if you want to go for quick drinks, and food. The price wasn’t that bad. I went on Friday night, so I’m not sure how Saturday nights are. However it was just average. Sorta«hood». Nothing really special. The drinks were average. I had Amaretto on the rocks and they basically poured me a baby ounce. I ordered a Amaretto sour next, and they watered it down to the point it tasted like a diet dr. pepper. So that was disappointing. One thing I didn’t like was ordering Hookah. You have to pay in cash instead of card. I only had my card on me so that was dumb. The people that provide the hookah as I understand it are employed by the actual club, therefore that was the reason for the limited payment options. Which to me I thought was even more weird. But hey, what can you do. Will I be going back… mmmm probably. I’d probably have to be dragged back.

In the spirit of not repeating what most have said, i’ll keep it simple. Service — Terrible, especially worse on Sundays, when«urban» events are held. The respect, attitude, and process of entry severely changes on other nights. I witnessed a male bouncer fully frisk a woman down! Bartenders — Dishonest(look at the picture attached). One bartender(Ari) added a 20 percent gratuity to two beers I purchased without my consent. He then attempted to belittle me as I questioned him of this practice, «two dollars is too much for you?» etc. Another bartender suggested«we» should be happy that they have drink special for«us». Tip — Do NOT attend their Sunday day events unless you want to be treated like a second class citizen. It seems that ownership is essentially saying they do not want your business, so «urban» people go elsewhere.

Basic bar but surprising food and group HH special. I walk by this place all the time, have been here a few times on weekends, and would rather avoid it. Well, a group of 6 were looking for a place on this block and begrudgingly strode into the establishment not expecting much. Well, we were surprised. The HH was half off bottle of wines(which is what we all wanted anyway). So splitting a $ 22 bottle for 3 people was incredibly affordable. And then there was the food: Avocado Dip«with a Tuscan flair»($ 10): A. This had a kick that was fantastic and perfectly large pita squares that were surprisingly filling. The highlight of the evening. Cheese Board($ 14): A Rabiola Bosina, Drunken Goat, Pecorino, Apples, Dates, Focaccina Bread. Wow, especially the drunken goat and MOREBREAD! Definitely worth the price. Veggie Pizza($ 14): B Tomato sauce, roasted vegetables, mozzarella, herbs, and shaved pecorino tasted all great, but I wouldn’t pay $ 14 for that. Prosciutto Pizza($ 15) Mozzarella, fontina, cherry tomatoes, prosciutto san daniel, arugula. Same deduction as above. Would I go back for the Avocado Dip, cheese board and wine? Sure! For anything else? No. Though I have to say, BarCode won me over with my preconceived notions, which rarely happens.

So pleased with this place! My best friend recommended this place for happy hour last Tuesday but we missed it so we decided to do dinner here instead. It did not disappoint. I order calamari everywhere I go, and their grilled calamari was phenomenal. Even my partner who was hesitant about it at first loved it. The small plates are incredibly delicious. We ordered the mussels and spinach and artichoke dip, and that too was spectacular. I ordered the seafood pasta and it was the perfect serving. Our server was super sweet and attentive as well. The ambiance was very classy and the place was pretty empty while we were there. For dessert, we ordered the Nutella pie. Try it!!! You won’t regret it! I’ll definitely be back to this place.

I came here with a friend on a Saturday evening. It was not crowded at all. It’s a modern, trendy looking bar and lounge restaurant. The tvs kind of cheapen the place though. They have a decent amount of items on their menu, from pizza and burgers to pasta and pricier entrees. My friend ordered the Pomodoro. It is linguine with tomato sauce and cherry tomatoes. I found it kind of disappointing. The sauce was a little too sour and tart. It is something anyone can make at home with Prego or Ragu. I went with the Restaurant Week menu. For starter, I chose the Seafood Ceviche. I was expecting the usual seafood in lime juice. This one had some kind of tomato sauce, which overpowered the seafood. It was not great. Skip this next time. For salad, I went with the Summer Salad. It had spinach, walnut, feta, and red wine dressing. It was good. You can’t really mess up a salad. I went with the Grilled Australian Lamp Chops with saffron risotto. This dish was delicious and deserving of the four stars! The lamb was tender and well seasoned. The risotto was just as good and flavorful from the saffron and wine sauce. To end the meal, I had the Chocolate Lava cake topped with vanilla ice cream. I was told that this is more of a Happy Hour kind of place and I can see that. There’s a bar and plenty of tables. They also have an outdoor seating area.
