As the name might imply, this place has some pretty solid bread. I have enjoyed most of the sandwiches I’ve had here, and the soup/salad options are also pretty good. The one downside is the whole line is a bit confusing the first time you go. There are different counters for sandwiches and salads with a different counter to pay… and during lunch hour it can get fairly chaotic. The line does move pretty efficiently, despite being long at lunchtime, but it takes a second on your first visit to figure out where to go/stand.

I met a friend at the Breadline for a late lunch, and was thoroughly unimpressed. I ordered a tomato mozzarella salad, and was presented with two slices of bread with sliced tomato and mozzarella in between them. I politely reminded him that I had asked for a salad, and he didn’t seem to believe me. He went over to the salad station, and then said he couldn’t make the salad after all, gesturing to imply that they had run out of tomatoes and mozzarella. The only other vegetarian salad was lentil feta, so I got that instead. It wasn’t bad – you can’t go wrong with feta and lentils on greens – but hardly worth $ 9. Similarly, the«flavored water» was nice, but most restaurants don’t charge you for a cup of tap water with lemon. Breadline is always busy at peak lunch hours, so maybe their sandwiches redeem the mediocre service and salads. If you’re looking for a quick, healthy lunch at this price point, though, there are a half-dozen better options in a two block radius.

I have nothing but great things to say about this place. I’ve eaten here several times as a customer and each time the service is friendly and efficient, and the food is amazing(at a great price!). Today I placed a last-minute catering order for a company event and Nat was incredibly helpful. I can’t wait to share the Breadline love with my meeting.

Good place for lunch in DC Today was my first time eating in breadline in DC. I ordered egg salad sandwich on olive bread. The egg sandwich was delicious, its portion was extremely generous and olive bread was out of this world. It was done right and price was very good as well. it was 6.99 for the egg salad. I could not eat the whole thing and I have half of it for my dinner. If you are egg salad lover and live in DC go to breadline, for the price, portion, and quality you can not beat this place.

This place makes an absolutely scrumptious breakfast sandwich. Freshly scrambled eggs, bacon, and cheddar. I wish my office was in this area so I could stop in to get breakfast more often.

This place is just a disaster. After awkwardly standing at the counter waiting for one of the fifteen workers behind the counter to take my order, someone finally came and asked if I was ready. Uh yes. This is after someone behind me left because it was taking so long. Something I gladly wish I had done. I ordered a grilled veggie sandwich and added some turkey to it. The guy looked extremely confused. Is that such a crazy request? Got my sandwich that was not hot at all. They also forgot the cheese. At that point I didn’t care enough to have them fix it. My friend got a donut and it wasn’t cooked on the inside. None of it tasted good. The lady who checked me out immediately afterwards went to a table on the side of the seating area, laid down and went to sleep. Classy. I wouldn’t go back to this place. Nobody who works there seems to care at all.

I was super excited when I saw it there on the wall… Chicken and goat cheese with tomato jam and greens on a baguette. Literally, LITERALLY everything on that list I love. I assumed the bread would be fresh with the name like Breadline. I assumed too much it seems :( The ordering process is really awkward also. You order and kind of stand in front and behind people in a little bottleneck/corner of the counter and wait for someone to hold up a sandwich and try and figure out if it was yours or theirs then shuffle over to the register. What I received was very VERY hard baguette with very cold chicken with only the essence of goat cheese and if there was tomato jam on my sandwich then I’m a monkeys uncle. I did see greens but at this point… who cares? The bread was so HARD it was almost inedible. Honestly I feel like you need to work hard to create a sandwich this bad. Another reviewer said it best, black hole of taste. It was a mistake that I won’t repeat. Awful experience.

Guys, I love bread. I’ll admit it. I try to deny it, but there it is, out there in the open. So, as a bread lover at heart, I was intrigued by the prospect of a lunch place centered around bread. I’m not going to lie, I was a bit skeptical when I walked in and saw that most of the sandwiches were pre-made. I wish they weren’t or at least they gave the customers the illusion that they aren’t pre-made and just sitting around. This is one of the reasons I dock a star. I understand that they must get swamped at the lunch hour rush, but a fresh made sandwich is hard to beat. I ordered two things(I was hungry ok?). I had the chicken and goat cheese sandwich and the tomato basil soup. I thoroughly enjoyed both of these. The chicken goat cheese sandwich was served on a baguette with a tomato jam. Each bite was a great combination of chicken to cheese. The bread was also extremely fresh. I came in around 11:30, so it was before the lunch madness and the sandwiches weren’t sitting long. As for the soup. Oh, the soup was fantastic. It was the kind of soup you have when it’s snowing and you are curled up on your sofa. It was also served with a giant hunk of bread. The bread was crusty on the outside and soft on the inside, which was perfect for soup dipping! Although I don’t work in the area, I know I’ll try to get back there for lunch soon!

I was looking forward to the falafel piadine, however, this was just a black hole of taste and flavor. Absolutely zero taste to the croquettes, the flatbread was so dry, and the tzatziki sauce… was that even tzatziki sauce or just white paste? I could only eat a quarter before my mouth got bored. They do give you a generous portion of fries, but these are just the fries that you find at e.g., Five Guys. The blandness of the falafel just sucks the flavor of the fries away.

I used to love this place but I went yesterday and I asked for the chicken curry salad, which used to be pretty good, but then I realized that they started to stuff the salad with rice. Yes white steamed rice in a salad. I think that the idea behind this is make more for less. but very disappointed. I won’t come back.

Friday’s feature of BBQ pork sandwich was pretty good. The BBQ sauce was almost perfect… Staffs were very attentive and nice.

Still two stars. I tried the chicken guac sandwich, which was tasty, but just the value isn’t there given the price vs. amount of food. Appreciate the generous amount of seating during the lunch hour. What’s frustrating is the menu is too small to read until you’re at the counter and the staff is yelling(yes, yelling) for your order.

It was my first time eating here. A colleague suggested this place and I am open to trying new places in DC. The serving is quite large, so we shared a lamb sandwich and chicken salad. Very fulfilling and the service was quite fast during lunch. The staff was very friendly and I know I will return and recommend to co-workers and friends.

LOVE this place, but probably not the best place for a working lunch. Nevertheless, it’s worth a trip. Get the black bean quesadillas(Wednesday’s only) and the veggie sandwich. If you like fig newtons, try theirs. It can be difficult to get a seat during the lunch rush(which is why I say it’s not ideal for working lunches) but still worth a trip.

Smells like delicious bread as soon as you walk in! There are a ton of options to choose from and it was surprisingly empty for lunch hour(could be due to the snow outside). The line moved really fast, and they were quick to prepare the food. I got the smoked salmon sandwich – really tasty! Everyone was really friendly and helpful – I would come back!

Solid lunch place in DC if you work in the area. I like getting the piadine bread with any sandwich I order. It comes out warm off the grill. Even if the line is long, it moves pretty quickly and it’s never hard to find a seat.

Stopped in quickly for lunch and picked up a chicken guacamole sandwich. It was pretty good, had some nice elements to it. The guacamole was actually really enjoyable. I don’t think it was necessarily that spicy as advertised but the red onions in it did provide some kick. The baguette was tasty, a little chewy but not too much. Also, the greens were a nice addition. The main issue though for me was the grilled chicken which actually wasn’t very good. It was cold with no noticeable grilled taste to it. An enjoyable sandwich overall but it definitely has much higher potential.

First visit. I was checking out my new work neighborhood and popped in for a take away lunch to have in the park. Got the chicken goat cheese. I was a bit hesitant because I am really not an onion fan at all. I gave it s hot though and hoped that maybe the«jam» was blended and I got the onion flavor without the onion texture. Nope, I was wrong. So maybe it’s just because I really hate onions, but I didn’t care of the overall sandwich. The chicken? Yes, moist and good. The bread? Perfect crunch and tenderness combination. The overall concept? Nah. Maybe I should try something else, but for now I am giving BL a 2.5.

Breadline wasn’t my favorite. I appreciate the effort to incorporate unusual ingredients into classic sandwiches, but it just wasn’t for me. I’ve had it on two occasions– once when I stopped in for a quick bite to eat during my lunch break and another time when my office had them cater. They do have quite the selection, I’ll give them that. Maybe I didn’t get the right thing, but in my mind, a tuna salad is a classic and you really can’t screw it up. Unfortunately, Breadline proved me wrong. The olive bread really didn’t mesh well with the tuna salad, and they added some sort or oil or spice that ruined the taste of the sandwich. When they catered, I was able to try several different sandwiches. I tried the chicken and goat cheese, turkey on ciabatta, and chicken breast. The same feelings of confusion and disappointment I experienced when I stopped in for lunch resurfaced when I went through 3 – 4 bites of three different sandwiches. Breadline just wasn’t for me.

My favorite sandwich shop in DC! I love their unique menu and freshly made bread. Portion sizes are always extremely generous and there is a wide variety of options to choose from. Come early to avoid the lunch rush if possible!

I really don’t understand the hype surrounding Breadline. You would think that for $ 9-$ 11, you’d be getting some sort of gourmet sandwich. That is not the case here. Instead you are paying for huge pieces of untoasted bread, a sliver of meat, and an absurd amount of lettuce/tomatoes. The only draw for me is the mushroom soup accompanied by a toasty piece of bread. Yet I still find the prices to be far too high for what you get($ 4 for a small cup of soup?!). I hate to use Unilocal as my soapbox, but I want my fellow food lovers to spend their lunch money on a more filling, higher-quality meal. Sorry Breadline!

Breadline is a decent lunch place — it has a number of good sandwich, wrap, and salad options. There is the enormous line at lunch, but don’t be alarmed if you’re worried about having nowhere to sit inside — they have a large seating area, both downstairs and upstairs. Even on the busiest of days, you can probably find a table. And many people who work in the area take their food to-go anyway. I opted for the Hummus piadine. It was a bit pricey($ 8), considering it only consisted of pita bread, hummus, lettuce, and cucumbers. But it was still quite filling and the bread was delicious. It’s probably too pricey a place to go back to regularly(considering you don’t really get much for what you pay), but it was still a delicious meal and I’m glad I tried it.

Great sandwiches, soup and salad. And as the name implies, the bread is terrific. In DC on bidness, I was fortunate enough to be near the Breadline at lunchtime. I had forgotten how good the Breadline is. Super fresh ingredients, up-to-date menu, fast service and easy-on-the-budget prices. I had gazpacho and a turkey sandwich on ciabatta. Both were terrific. What’s not to like? Finding a place to sit and eat can be a bit of scrum. You’ve got to be quick and use your elbows.

I wish there was a way to give Breadline 41⁄2 stars and not JUST4 but i guess thats for another time… I owe BL an apology cuz i had a bad experience which made me write a bad review but since i work nearby and wandered in several times to grab a quick lunch, i’ve became to love this place, Pros: Salads; Love the fresh/delicious variety they offer and their daily menu is online which is a plus(they keep rotating weekly) The CHOCOLATEALMONDCROISSANT, its soooooo GOOD that it needs a pedestal of its own… whenever i ‘forget’ to eat my oatmeal, i run excited to grab this heavenly croissant with a cup of caffe con filtro(coffee+steamed milk) its my breakfast treat and truly makes my day! The sandwiches look great and their soups are fairly good too. I still have to try out their extensive sandwich menu but till now my go-to fave is the tomato/mozeralla sandwich which comes with big chunks of mozeralla cheese mmmMMMMmmm… i need to venture more! Cons: DONTGETTHEMEDITTERANEANPIZZA! THEYSHOULDBEARRESTEDFORCALLINGTHATHUGEMESS A PIZZA! Thats my SOLE regret with this place!
