Catch Can

I’ve been a frequent buyer at Catch Can but be absolutely certain of what you buy since they will never accept a return for anything but credit and then for only very few days out of inventory. Their return policy is very restrictive compared to any other stores, including higher end boutiques in the area, where I often shop. I prefer Sequel in Potomac for better made clothes but Catch Can offers larger sizes, esp. in their Kensington store, and a wider range of prices. It’s a bit pricey but given the uniqueness of some of their clothes you would expect this.

Catch can deals with women clothing and accessories. Its in a good location. Its open 7 days a week. It has steady business. Its prices are reasonable for what they sell. Its staff is civil and very pleasant it gets 4 stars for keeping with other businesses on the avenue.

The merchandise is lovely — so lovely, in fact, that it was what caught my eye and drew me when I was just passing by, having never been in the store before.
However, the personnel were suspicious and unfriendly, and I can’t remember when I last felt as unwelcome in a business. I picked up a couple of earrings to try on as I was surveying the merchandise and a salesperson came over and took them from me. Really?
I later noticed small shopping baskets, but she didn’t offer me one of those, as salespeople seem to when I’m shopping in some of the better-​managed retail stores that train their personnel on customer service. She just took the merchandise. Not a great first impression.
As my visit progressed, the other personnel were similarly unhelpful and unwelcoming. One mentioned a sale, but when I followed up to confirm the date as I was leaving, she didn’t mention it and said she didn’t know when the merchandise I was interested in would be on sale, in a tone that suggested that she wasn’t terribly interested in having my business.
It’s too bad; what started out as a strong bias in favor of this place based on the quality of the inventory ended up leaving me with a bad taste based on the customer experience. I doubt I’ll go back.

A wide selection of interesting (unique) items, well priced and I have a blouse
given to me by my sister from years ago, which I wear all the time! The
staff is very friendly and they carry some high style purses, as well as clothes and the jewelry also is interesting. I never miss a chance to visit when I’m in DC.

The best women’s shoe selection I’ve seen in one place in DC! They even carry CYDWQ brand, along with Camper and other great brands that I usually have to go to NYC to easily find. Basically they have all of the practical comfy shoes that don’t look like they’re for an 80 year old person — the cute trendy brands that cost a few bucks, but will last you for a while. They have the brands and style I wish I would find when I go into Comfort One shoes, but never seem to find.
I kind of just ignore the rest of the store, which is overpriced and full of stuff more relevant for women of a «certain age» (i.e. over 50). However, the shoe part will keep me visiting regularly, especially the sale/​clearance racks.

Clothing is rather unique, which is a plus, but varies a lot in quality and value. The service varies from helpful to annoying. The unwanted aroma is just annoying. Overall not the greatest in shopping experiences.

Stay Away! I bought an expensive blouse there and did NOT ever wear it. When I took it back to return it, the owner accused me of wearing it and even when I said I had not, she said, «Oh, this has definitely been worn!» She would not take it back and I advise anyone to avoid her store – she buys most of her stuff from China anyway so it is not very high quality but it high-​priced

Its such a colorful and fun place to shop. I do prefer to catch the sales at the end of each season as the clothes are not cheap but they are generally good quality and they have a great shoe selection.

This treasure of a store is on upper Connecticut Avenue. Those coming via Public Transportation can hop one of the handy L buses from downtown or Cleveland Park, Van Ness, or Woodley Park to get there. It’s a short easy ride. They sell natural fabric clothing for people who live a little easy — nothing particulary trendy or buttoned up here. They also have a great selection of comfort shoes (Keen, Merrell) and lots of gifts, cards. The store has a great vibe. Occasional sales help the budget-​minded take advantage of their very stylish and comfortable clothing.

I’m a big fan of Catch Can’s eclectic mix of clothing, jewelry and home goods. While its on the expensive side, I’ve had great success buying gifts here for my mother who always marvels at both the uniqueness & quality of things in the store. They have some really gorgeous refurbished antiques that would feel right at home in my apartment if it weren’t for the price tag…
all in all this isn’t a place to shop regularly, but for special items or when you want to treat yourself, stop in.

When you first walk into Catch Can you’ll have a tough time deciding where to start. They have very pretty things. First things to browse through are home décor items such as candles, ceramics, stationery and linens. A lot of great house warming gift ideas in small to medium price ranges. I like their bamboo cutting boards.
Clothing screams SUMMER IS HERE! They have lots of cotton and linen clothing from brands such as fresh produce. Pricey, but nice. The style is very Nantucket chic. These are the type of clothing you’d want to where to the Kennedy compound for a game of croquet (if you’re ever invited, of course). Oh well, a girl can dream…
