Come here for drip coffee, don’t bother coming here for anything labor intensive. But really even for drip, just walk to Starbucks, you’ll be less disappointed. Sunday morning, wanted some coffee and breakfast that wasn’t going to as heavy as brunch. Being new to the Columbia Heights ‘hood, decided to try out Coffy Café. Ordered a savory salmon crêpe, blueberry muffin, soy latte, and a drip coffee. They forgot my soy latte(it happens), but after I inquired about it, no apology no nothing. Literally just blank stares and a nonchalant«oh well make it now». By make it now, they actually meant«we will make it after we make another customer’s drink». That’s bs, what crappy customer service.

All around disappoint. The place itself feels dingy and unkept. There was a sign on the register that said«we apologize for our look during construction,» but there was no visible construction and even if there was that wouldn’t have accounted for the condition of the chair cushions. My black coffee was fine, but my girlfriend had to wait nearly 15 minutes for a soy latte and had to remind the staff that it had been ordered; we were never given a number which was tantamount to not existing at all. I ordered the Super Salmon crêpe, which did come out in a timely manner but tasted like they used cheap fish and tried to mask that fact in copious garlic cream sauce. A blueberry muffin was the only thing that meet expectations.

The barista apologized for taking so long to make my cappuccino. Then it turned out to be one of the best cappuccino’s I’ve ever had. Very impressed. 5 stars.

A decent local coffee shop in Columbia Heights, ample seating and ti’s never too busy. The crepes look good – especially the savory ones, they make them fresh at the counter. They used to provide coffee refills for $ 1, but they no longer do!

I was just wandering the area and I had not had breakfast .The menu was a struggle for me to read. All I wanted was a bacon egg & cheese crescent and a hot chocolate. Surprisingly portion size was extremely large which I appreciate. I love getting bang for my buck! My food and drink came out in a timely manner and was made to order. Only other complaint about Coffy Café is the lighting. Maybe some of the lights are actually from the 70’s(kidding) lol. I’m not sure if you could really get much work done here. I sat on their coach which was very low to the ground but I stayed seated because it was comfortable. I’m a rather tall guy 6’2″. They have an upstairs area where many people weren’t but it did not look as nice as downstairs. In conclusion, I would visit this place again, love the theme just wish the menu and lighting was more patron friendly. NEEDSMAKEOVER! =]

4.5 stars The more I go to this delightful café, the more I love them. Coffy Café has the perfect relaxed atmosphere to invite everyone in the local community, and the 70s film décor and menu items are great for anyone who enjoys retro cinema. On numerous occasions, we’ve come here to enjoy everything from«just a cup of coffee» to a full-on meal complete with crepes and lattes. The crepes are absolutely amazing, and it doesn’t hurt that they’re also gluten-free! In fact, that was the whole reason I was able to bring my GF cousin here for a Thanksgiving-weekend breakfast. My personal favorite is the Shaft crêpe, which is completely vegetarian and full of flavor! The perfect combination of hummus, feta cheese, and bell pepper sauce made for a perfect post-race recovery meal. The staff is incredibly friendly, the location is extremely convenient, and the vibe is extremely fun and relaxed. Their coffee is perfectly-crafted and delicious, and their food is fun and exciting. We have returned many times already and will continue to do so over the coming years.

Robert Irvine needs to give them a Restaurant Extreme Makeover. This place has so many possibilities and fails in a lot of areas. The décor is cute but this place could use a good wipedown. The bathrooms were a little less than diserable. My first order, I got a hot chocolate that they made using a powdered mix… noooooooo. Don’t charge me $ 4 for powder and not even a good hot chocolate powder mix. I also ordered a mini Nutella crêpe… which was the thickness of a pancake but it wasnt bad because cmon its Nutella. The BF got a chai tea which was also made with a powder. I was a little more hungry an hour later and opted for a ginger ale in a bottle and a bagel with cream cheese. It was average. The BF got a brownie which he thought wasnt great but wasnt bad. They could also use a customer service class. The young lady told me twice that they couldnt bring the food to the table because they were to busy so to listen for your number. I will say the Barista guy was letting those girls run and overwork him. He was making drinks, ringing up customers and makung orders. He was trying to hustle. Bless his soul. But, as chaotic as it got sometimes, the manager just sat in the back and watched or would critique about what they were doing wrong. Dude, dont leave your people hanging… roll up your sleeves and help out. Plus…they have free WiFi!

I have lived in the neighborhood for 3 years, and still make it a point to avoid getting a coffee there. I will admit that Coffy Café does have a great décor that gives it a unique personality. Unfortunately, the coffee is often cold, the service slow and often just as cold. My last trip, the barista/server microwaved a pour-over coffee after I complained that it was room temperature.

The coffee is good and the atmosphere has a quasi 70’s funky feel to it. The crepes are what is special about this place.

It was the vegan gluten-free crepes that drew me here(made using their special buckwheat batter for an extra charge). I rarely get to have crepes with my dietary restrictions, so I jumped at the chance to order one. Perhaps more than one of the other crêpe options were vegan and gluten-free or could be modified that way, but the only one that stood out to me that I could order was the Cleopatra Jones(portobello mushroom, eggplant, sauteed onion, pesto, and pesto drizzle on top). It actually ended up taking a long time to make mine. I noticed that several people who ordered food after me were getting their food while I was still waiting for mine. But then one of the cooks came over to me and informed me that they were having trouble getting the buckwheat crêpe to not fall apart. She offered to have it made with the regular crêpe batter with wheat, but I said that I can’t have wheat. She asked if I wanted them to keep trying. I said yes — luckily I wasn’t in a hurry to go anywhere and I really wanted to have a crêpe. So I waited. Finally, they were successful enough and brought me my crêpe. It still wasn’t perfect, but I was fine with it having a few holes. I totally understand because of the structure of gluten and eggs, things where they are removed usually don’t hold together as well. Or at all in some cases. Nevertheless, my crêpe tasted AMAZING. Eggplant is one of my favorite vegetables, and mushrooms may be one of my all-time favorite foods. So to have them together in one crêpe? I really didn’t care how the crêpe looked. And the buckwheat crêpe was yummy, too! The iced coffee I got with it was also pretty darn good. They have soy milk at the condiments bar, which made me happy. But it just makes me wonder … from what I can tell, they have had the gluten-free buckwheat crêpe option for a while. But they had so much trouble making the crêpe for me with it. So, do they not have people order it very often(I kind of doubt that), or maybe this batter isn’t the freshest or wasn’t made correctly or something? Surely they can’t struggle with the batter every time someone orders a gluten-free crêpe!

I was actually pleasantly surprised when I first came into Coffy Café. I was on the hunt for a nice, quite place to work and fuel up on coffee and breakfast food. Luckily, this place satisfies both criteria. I saw that crepes were on the menu, so I went ahead and ordered one along with a cup of coffee. The place has a really interesting 60’s themed atmosphere. The oldies music playing really gave it a chill, comforting vibe. I must say, the crêpe didn’t exactly meet my expectations(too much cheese if you ask me). I was a little disappointed on the presentation, but the taste overall just okay. Not the best crêpe I’ve ever had. Yet, the environment really made up for it. I was just so reluctant that I had found a cute, chill place to pop open my laptop and crack down on work… oh and free wifi is always a plus!

Coffy Café is a reliable spot to meet friends. You’ll pay DC prices. But you’ll almost always easily find space to sit(opposite of Tryst). I also like supporting a black-owned business. They have crepes which are pretty good, not great, but there’s no competition anywhere nearby! They know how to steep teas properly, the coffee is good and I’m currently enjoying an egg and cheese bagel($ 4.50 with tax) with good quality melty cheese. The 70s theme is fun too — A+ decorations.

Great new place with coffee and crepes. This place get 4 stars because it a friendly community space, African American owned and local! And I love the 60’s décor and free wi-fi.

My favorite quick and reasonably priced breakfast spot/neighborhood gathering place. I love their teas. The iced Chai latte is one of the best I’ve had. The crepes are really the selling point of this restaurant. They’re made fresh, they have a ton of options, sweet or savory, and the batter is buckwheat(gluten free and healthier than regular white flour). I’ve always had a pleasant experience with the servers and the vibe of the place is really cool with lots of femme fatal movie posters all over the place and great music choices. Plus it’s owned by women and people of color. I go here to eat, study and sometimes just hang out and read a book when I don’t want to be in my house. It’s not too quiet and not too loud either. A perfect level to concentrate when you need to but to also not feel like you’re in a library and will be ostracized if you sneeze too loud. All types of people come together at Coffy Café. I’ve seen bookclubs, tutoring sessions, and community meetings take place here and everyone is welcome. They’ve changed their hours recently to close earlier,(I think it’s 3 on weekdays and 7 on the weekends) which is a bummer. I’d like to stop by after work but really you can’t go wrong with this place.

Came here last weekend to fuel up for my errands. The one reviewer who complained of not being acknowledged is only half correct. When you come in, they can tell if you’re gazing at the menu to decide and give you your space. As soon as you look away from the menu and gaze at them, they immediately ask how they can help you. My crêpe was also brought to me, so I’d say service is just fine, and the wait for my crêpe was not long at all. The crêpe itself was also wonderful-they were out of smoked salmon so my original choice had to be changed and I ended up making my own savory crêpe — egg, spinach, avocado and feta. DELISH. I will be coming back very soon for a sweet crêpe and will update or post pics then!

Love this place. Super chill atmosphere, free WiFi, and lots of seating. Nice wall art and posters to keep you entertained when you need a break from your book/laptop. Overall good vibes! The nutella crêpe is my favorite; it’s perfectly warm and gooey. Service can be really slow, even when it’s not particularly busy but I didn’t deduct a star because luckily I’ve never been in much of a rush but just a note. Fwiw, It’s definitely friendlier and more efficient when the owner/manager(?) is in. I’d also recommend walking/biking/or taking public transportation, Columbia Heights is a mess for parking these days; the meters and the DCUSA garage are too expensive to idle at a coffee shop.

Bf bought a living social voucher for this place and we were pleasantly surprised. The café is two floors and pretty spacious with couches and tables with chairs. We ordered the super fruit crêpe and the super salmon crêpe which were both pretty tasty. The super salmon had smoked salmon, spinach, egg and cheese. The super fruit had strawberries, bananas, Nutella, and whip crème. There are lots of options on the menu and the lattes we ordered were simply good cups of coffee. I liked the chill ambience and they played good music that make for great background noise. Definitely would come back for crepes if ever in the area!

The best Crepes i’ve ever had ! I’ve pass by this place everyday and finally got the chance to try it. I was meeting up for lunch with my sister looking for a light meal and ended up here. The atmosphere is really relaxed and the furniture décor gives a retro vibe. We got 2 crepes to share; one sweet and one savory. I had the Barbarella and my sister had the Coffy Crêpe. Both were awesome. I felt a little weight on my heart and tear forming when they were all gone, they were gone so fast! The only reason I’m not rating this 5 stars is the service, nothing horrible, but the cashier obviously didnt know the menu. We said our order«Barbarella and Coffy crêpe» and he had to look up at the menu behind him to figure out what we were talking about. Then he rang us up for an extra crêpe. It took a while to amend because the credit card machine wasn’t working. Also, we had to ask for water 3 – 4 times before we got it. I noticed as we were walking out that there was a pitcher of water – so if I would’ve known it was self serve I wouldn’t have minded getting up. In summary, I’m pretty sure I’ll get over the service issues for these amazing crepes. Go try it, don’t wait as long as I did!

I’ve been looking above and beyond for good crepes in DC. After being utterly disappointed by the 4.5 star rated crepes at eastern market, I learned to just accept that I needed to look elsewhere(Toronto or back in NYC) for my crêpe fix. Until I came across Coffy Café! Used my livingsocial $ 20 voucher and ordered two super salmon crêpe with my husband. I asked for substitution of ham for avocado(not a big fan of processed meat). Our crepes were made on the spot and we were chomping down in no time. Unlike other crêpe stores, their savory crepes were made with half buckwheat flour which creates the soft, spongy texture — similar to injera without the sour taste — loved it! They didn’t skimp on the fillings either — my crêpe was loaded with the perfect amount of smoked salmon, chicken, avocado, tomato, cheddar, and spinach — drizzled with their garlic mayo sauce — beyond delicious! The two ladies working behind the counter were extremely accommodating and sweet(praised me on my substitution request and personally brought over a bottle of sriracha sauce!). Even though I can probably eat their super salmon crêpe every day, I Can’t wait to return to try their sweet crepes!

Great potential for this café, as the menu is more than just coffee and crepes. They have savory and sweet, and the menu notes vegan and gluten free options. However, it is curious that none of the items in the emu are then listed as vegan. When asked about the vegetarian options and having then be vegan, it seemed to be ok. Nope, not so much. The staff was very nice in helping me figure out what I was in the mood to eat, and they were very patient. When the drink was ready, they brought it to me! When the food was ready, I was called up, and the crêpe looked super tasty and professional. The idea of all buckwheat, no cholesterol or gluten was awesome. Unfortunately, they left in the vegan Shaft… Well, let’s just say that I was shafted because of all the feta cheese inside. Sad. Looked good. The latte was standard fare, nothing extraordinary for an iced soy latte. Still, as a local business with an awesome, chill vibe with plenty of seating and free wifi, give me a chance. I’ll try again!
