I, too, smelled the wonderful scent of freshly baked goods in and around the Meridian Pint area. With the help of Unilocal,I found this place. Unfortunately, the baked goods are terrible here. The guys were very nice and it was fairly cheap, but everything was extremely dry and tasteless. After finishing one cookie, I threw the rest out because they weren’t worth the pain of finishing.

For 4 months I biked to work and passed this place totally unable to figure out why two full blocks of 11th street smell like fresh bread and cinnamon every morning. The only other places on the block sell liquor, Chinese groceries, or are only open for dinner. The mystery vexed me. Finally, I came across this lone fogged-up glass door at the front of which looked like a small, boarded-up grocery. The only indication this wasn’t a crack den was the overwhelmingly delicious smell of baked goods and a small sign that read«Panaderia El Latino.» The inside is not so much a store as it is a commercial bakery. Their business model isn’t selling direct to the customer; they are a bakery supplier, so it’s great they let you cut out the middle man and buy direct from them. You walk straight into the bakery itself – mixers whirring, the warmth of ovens, and pallets of fresh baked goods ready to be packed up and sold. The two señors who work there are super friendly but literally speak 10 words of English max. They are fluent in pointing and smiling and nodding, however. Best of all, everything is made in-house, is super fresh, and is extremely cheap. They have cornbread muffins, many flavors of pastries, coffee cake, fresh loaves of bread, rolls, buns, and even traditional dense cakes. No single item is over $ 4. The bread loaves and packs of 3 buns/rolls are all around a dollar. The muffins and pastries range from $ 2.25−2.75. If you want fresh, authentic latino baked goods, this is the place!
