There is a reason why this place closed. Tryst or Coupe should open up another location, or we should get a better café/restaurant. Living nearby, every time I came here I received terrible service. Highlight a week before close, was when I went in and asked that they add cheese to my eggs. They took my plate and brought it back with a slice of American cheese cut in half, not melted. Which seemed nonsensical considering they added shredded cheddar to my grits.

The breakfast was just ok – I wasn’t very impressed though. The pancakes tasted like the frozen kind you might heat up in the microwave. The eggs and omelette weren’t very good either – I wouldn’t be surprised if they came out of a carton. This was my first time visiting. I don’t think I’ll be back. I admit there’s a chance the lunch and dinner may be better. Just don’t get your hopes up for breakfast.

No real complaints! Came for a bite to eat after church service with some family, we were pretty hungry. Lol Got the chicken and waffles which were decent. Regular waffles and chicken tenders. Not overly amazing but if you’re hungry it does the job!

Really really good breakfast food. Reasonably-priced. I had the egg and bacon sandwich… yum yum.

1 star off because of the wait that you put in when you’re in a rush! The seating area is nice and clean. it looked beautiful with modern wood finish and the the restaurant itself has lots of sunshine which is perfect for breakfast and observing morning sun. I got the early bird burrito with sausage. I thought it was decent and got that fresh flavor and rich cheese. Would I come back? Yes, but only to get bagel with cream cheese hoping that it wouldn’t take so long to come out.

Went for breakfast last summer. Food was 4.5, service was 3. The server was friendly but did not return enough to check on us because she was the only person taking orders in the restaurant. Wait staff is friendly but slow. I spoke with the manager and the stated they are low on help. Not sure if I will return.

Always good eggs benedict here. Whiting(fish) breakfast platter is a winner, too. Coffee is premium brews and nicely presented. Other breakfast items are average. They do not offer hash browns, only a home fries concoction(with no tomato, thankfully). Never had anything but breakfast, and is served all day – seems to be its strong suit. The service has been a mixed bag since I’ve been coming here. It seems there is a lot of turnover in staff; many of whom are young but friendly enough. Sometimes I get the tag team approach, sometimes it’s a dedicated server. Not sure about the bakery part so much – display case sure has a lot of bottled drinks rather than baked goods. Have only visited on weekends, which can be busy; never stopped in M-F. Love the fact this establishment is located where it is. This neck of the woods in Northeast DC needs restaurants like this. It’s got a cute interior and homey feel. Groups like to come in here; the word is out about that. Prices are moderate. Flip It Twice has positioned itself to be a desirable destination for comfort food on the Rhode Island Avenue corridor. Needs to work on consistency in service. It is the second edition of the first; the original«Flip It» is found on Georgia Avenue, in Petworth. Parking at «Twice», in Brookland, is free and plentiful.

The chicken and waffles were good. The portions are large that I had leftovers. The décor and atmosphere is nice. Will definitely be back!

Flip It was the neighborhood go-to spot. I use to live for their hot chocolate. It tasted so rich and divine, topped with whip cream and syrup. Their sandwiches and desserts, mostly cakes, gave me a reason to visit any chance that I could get. I was even okay with their version of chicken and waffles which featured more waffle than chicken. My last visit confirmed that I would sadly have to let this place go. The customer service was a bit shoddy, but I was it expecting since the waiter I had really messed up during a previous time there. I was disappointed to learn the hot chocolate that I loved so much came out of a packet. My chicken and waffles was just above meh. I get that wings are cheaper than actual chicken pieces, but can the waffles come out hot? My friend’s choice looked so sad with strips of struggle bacon and tiny specs of veggies.

Good place to grab a bit if you’re in/around the Brookland area. There’s plenty to choose from on the menu. Everything from breakfast to lunch. The portions are hearty and make for delicious leftovers, if you’re lucky enough to have any. Good stuff. PS: Grabbing a delicious fruit(strawberry!) smoothie on your way out is always a good idea. Always!

I always get the blueberry pancake platter which is amazing. The customer service is top notch and the servers are very attentive. My sister visited from Chciago last year and instead of some of the fancier brunch places downtown, she always wants to visit here when she comes. The turkey bacon is awesome too. if you’re feeling desert try the cinnamon cake or cheesecake too.

I love flip it. The food is tasty and the prices are great. The service can be incredibly slow, so that’s the reason I deducted a star. However, I’m still incredibly glad to have flip it in the neighborhood and hope that it will be around for a long time. PS there’s nothing better than breakfast all day!

I should have read the previous reviews before going here. I looked at the overall star rating and assumed it would be a great local food spot for breakfast. Sadly, I’m not sure if they even make the food there. The pancake definitely didn’t look fresh, I didn’t try them though, my wife ordered them. They reminded me of frozen pancakes from the grocery store that you heat up in the microwave. I had the French toast, which was disappointing from a taste standpoint. When they came out they looked great, and I thought«yes, made a great pick. Then I started eating them, and its hard for me to explain what it was about the taste, but it was off from what my expectations were for French toast. Also, another let down was that the orange juice was from concentrate. Honestly, for the price I paid there they need to step it up. I would have been more satisfied if I had just went to the chain restaurant down the street.

Ate lunch here one Tuesday, about 1 pm, and got great service and great food. We had two chicken salad sandwiches(fresh tasting, with lettuce and tomato and toasted on whole wheat), served with a pickle and potato chips. We also had a coffee and tea and a side order of mashed potatoes(lumpy but in a good way). All this for $ 22 plus tax and tip. The place is very clean and fresh-painted looking inside and there is a wheelchair accessible doorway(on the right side) and the ramp to it is discernible. Also bathrooms were wheelchair accessible. It looks like it was once a pizza hut or other fast food place but is now family-owned and decorated inside very nicely and the service is quite professional and courteous We liked the roominess and pleasant service. We’ll be back, I’m sure, to check out the all-day breakfasts and maybe a dinner or two!

Honestly, eating at flip it is like going to your own refrigerator and throwing together whatever you have. Today I had a cheese omelet with a side of ham. Omelet was ok, not special but competent. For the ham? Get this — they warm up 3 thin slices of lunch meat! Jerry shared his apple pie. Canned apples in a factory-made crust. If that’s what you’re used to you’ll love it. They actually had a baker when they first opened on Georgia avenue, but apparently nobody currently involved could tell the difference. So don’t expect much.

Great little neighborhood restaurant! Nothing negative to say. Breakfast was delicious :) would be helpful if they posted their menu online. I will definitely come back to this place when I’m in the area and need a good breakfast fixing!

Really good stuff! Found the place via Unilocal(duh) after mass at the Basilica. They have a sizable menu, great customer service, and decent prices. I had their Turkey Bacon Breakfast Platter(came with home fries, toast, and 2 eggs) — my fiancé had their Eggs Benedict Breakfast Platter and we shared a stack of Pancakes. We left with happy tummies and happy wallets. Haha!

From humble surroundings, great things can spring. Surrounded by check cashing places and hole in the wall fish restaurants on Rhode Island Avenue NE, I was not expecting such a shiny, flashy diner to appear before my eyes upon entering. The atmosphere here could easily fit in Rhode Island Avenue NW. Minus one thing, the pretension. Flip-It is more a place for families to meet than lobbyists to eat. And the prices reflect the laid-back nature of the dining. It’s possible for two people to eat a Sunday brunch here for under $ 20! But unlike some bargain breakfasts, the plates here are huge. My $ 6.99 choose-your-own omelette(which the server was shocked I only ordered with feta cheese when I *could* have gotten everything) was huge. And filled with a pretty thick layer of feta. Plus it was perfectly fluffy and not burnt. It was easily the best«Greek» omelette I’ve ever had in the D.C. area. About the only thing that shocked me negatively was that they serve what amounts to polenta instead of grits. I almost wished it was more homestyle with a bowl of rich, artery clogging hot cereal. I’ll admit it. I was lured in by the silly name(I got Bel Biv Devoe’s «Poison» stuck in my head), but I’ll be back for the food for sure.
