Their products are fine, prices high(although expected for city) but their people absolutely are the worst ever. I live close to Johnson’s and have been going here for a few years. I do love the convenience and prefer to support local businesses but after yet another«why do I keep going here?!» experience I think I may finally have to give up. Their staff makes even the most basic shopping experiences difficult. I rarely see places where employees care so little to the point it is as if they are purposely trying to tank the business. If you go here, odds are you will leave with a bad taste in your mouth. Sorry Johnson’s but after three strikes you are out!

I discovered this place randomly when driving by. All the plants outside drew my attention. The store itself is huge. Pretty wide selection of everything. I wish it was more organized though or at least tidy. I ended up buying some flowers. They had some really beautiful ones to choose from. Some I haven’t even seen before ever. So I throughly enjoyed the selection with that. But I would say I thought it was all way to overpriced because I can go to say my farmers market & get it at a better price. Would probably come back just because I like it so much but the prices make me depressed.

Unhelpful staff onsite. Probably more a case of not enough staff. But it was hard to get help nevertheless. Bought a tree from them. It was planted in the yard. The dead tree sat in my front yard for several weeks before they came and took it away leaving a big bare spot in my front yard. I asked if they would cover it with sod and was told that they have sod for sale. Thanks alot.

How can one retailer turn a $ 250 sale into a $ 150 return. Indifferent and lazy customer service. Months earlier, I bought a row of plants and spent over $ 500. Two died. Ok. Things happen. Wasn’t even gonna do a return, when I went to the store to buy mulch etc. Their neighborhood delivery fee has doubled in price. No warning. No apology. No we want you as a customer. We don’t care how much you want to spend or how much you already have spent. Annoyed in decided to return the two dead plants. Got my 150 buck back, but nothing in life is free. Much aggravation and poor customer service. Manager did not mind making me waiting and running back and forth when he and his staff fumbled. Seems like they have a general strategy of making the shopping experience unpleasant and hopefully the customer goes away. REI had that same approach. Maybe I should buy on line.

3.5 stars, which I round up to 4. It’s a great place with a great selection, and the plants look super healthy. The employees are very helpful and nice. There’s parking, and of course, they will help you load your stuff into your car. My only complaint really is that the plants are super expensive. I understand we’re talking DC commerical rents here. but I can’t afford this place :(I really wanted to buy a Japanese maple tree, and the ones they had here were $ 200 and up! for little little baby trees. I was able to find a much bigger tree at the Meadows Nurseries in Annandale for much cheaper.

If only 3.5 stars were an option… Cute little shop tucked away in Tenleytown. I agree with other people’s reviews about no employees wandering around to ask for help. The employees I found were at the checkout. I also partially agree with the overpriced comments. The plants themselves are over priced at $ 23 for a 4″ cactus in a 2−3″ pot. However I was able to buy pots and fertilizer for half the price as else where. 6 inch terra cotta pots were $ 2 vs $ 4 at ace and $ 5 on Amazon.

Even one star is too many! Went to Johnsons to talk about flowers for a home wedding several weeks hence. Made an appointment with the general manager to come and survey to determine our needs. But at the appointed hour he did not show-up so I called his cell phone and left a message. — no return call. I also called the store and asked to speak to speak him but there was no response. Very poor service indeed

Best silk flowers in DC area. This is my go to place for silk flowers. Johnson’s has a incredible variety in every color scheme you would ever want and the flowers are beautiful. I have them planted in pots on my balcony for the winter– to add a color to an otherwise dreary winter season. I have them indoors in vases with stones or glass beads to anchor them. Johnson’s also has an amazing collection of outdoor planters and I go there preferentially to see what is new each season. Love this store

I had to order a tree for my bosses home(very busy executive) and the usual place he orders from is closed this season. Johnson’s was recommended to me so I did my research as well. It was ordered and delivered with prompt and professional service set up/watered in his tree stand(which is an extra fee). My boss was extremely pleased with the quality of the Douglas Fir and the aroma set the mood for his first gathering of the season. He also said he was going to purchase his trees now through Johnson’s.

We had a great experience with Johnson’s, who assembled about 10 arrangements for us in less than 24 hours for an event at our house. The designer, Lydia, did a great job reflecting the style we were shooting for. We dropped off our own vases and picked up the next morning. We would definitely use them again for floral arrangements.

I love coming here just to look at the greenery, as if it were my own greenhouse. No one ever greets me or acknowledges my presence, which, I suppose is fine, because I’m obviously just browsing. I wish I could have just about every plant in this place, and if every move I made didn’t cost $ 75, then I certainly would be headed down that road. So, basically I come here to see what is in season, then I go online and order it elsewhere. Sorry, but this whole«you get what you pay for» idea is b.s. when it comes to plants. If you know how to pot a plant and water it and fertilize it, you don’t need to spend $ 75 on any ol’ plant. Oh, and when you come on a humid summer day, be sure to where lots of insecticide; this place is crawling with mosquitoes.

I’ve been to Johnson’s about 5 times over the past few years so this is a review about my experience overall. — Herbs and fruit/veg plants — good selection and most of them are thriving in my community garden. — Dogs are welcome!(Note: I have a small 14 lb dog so not sure about big dogs) — Good indoor plant selection — Expensive, but convenient. You receive Johnson bucks that can be redeemed during certain times which is a nice perk. — I was looking for tomato cages but they said they didn’t get any in because they were hard to find. Went to Home Depot and got four. — Parking lot is crowded on weekends but there is always staff there to guide you to a spot. — I wish I had outdoor space at my condo so I could buy more plants and flowers from Johnson’s!

What a terrific resource! Baron and his team in houseplants have gone to the«ends of the earth» to help us in our search for just the right plants for our office entrance. It is hard to find customer service like this and we look forward to working with them again.

I am a frequent shopper of Johnson’s and have been for many years. I am appalled, however, at the treatment I received lately. On December 7, I purchased 2 wreaths for Christmas. When I checked my bank statement the following week, I noticied that I was charged 4 times for the same items. I talked to Johnson’s and they told me it was a problem with their Bank and the issue would be resolved in 2 – 3 days. It took over 2 weeks! And, today I checked my statment again and there is another debit for the same items! I don’t know what is going on. The managers are never available to talk to me on the phone. Buyer beware!!!

Johnson’s is wonderful! The quality and service can’t be beat! Mark Jenkins remembers what I need for Christmas better than I do and he makes holiday decorating a pleasure! This years wreaths were the best ones ever ! Thank you Johnson’s !!! I wouldn’t go anywhere else!

You Get What You Pay For!!! This is an old saying given to me by my grandmother, and it stays true today. I’m one of those who believes in saving my pennies to pay a bit more for something truly wonderful, instead of spending my hard earned money on a plethora of mediocrity. That being said, Johnson’s has never let me down. When I have occasion to buy from Johnson’s, most recently my daughter’s wedding, I tell them what I have to spend, and they are only too happy to give me the absolute best for the price. Then again, I don’t expect them to sell me exotic, expensive plants for the cost of carnations. The flowers for the wedding were breathtaking. I have no better compliment to offer than that. I came to know Johnson’s as a former resident of Bethesda. Since moving to Hanover, MD, I still make the journey to Johnsons, on a weekend afternoon, simply for the pleasure of the experience. The staff has always been helpful and accomodating. Having read some of the less than happy reviews, I can say I’m surprised. Most in particular, the reviewer who had a problem with the delivery fee for mulch. This reviewer declined to mention how much mulch they had delivered, but no matter. I’ve been an event planner for more years than I care to mention, and have to have things delivered from businesses all the time. Gas is expensive, man-power is expensive, liability is expensive. It’s a necessary evil for anyone taking advantage of the luxury of having things delivered. You want free? Order a pizza! Everything else, you pay for. I only hope this particular customer didn’t take it out on the poor delivery men, and gave them a nice tip for hauling around their mulch! Although, something tells me…

Bad, rude service, unhelpful from a young lady working at the store. And when I took the trouble to mention this to Christine, the supposed customer service manager, I got a perfunctory apology. She didn’t even bother to ask me who had served me so badly. Last time I ever go there. Avoid if you can and spend your money somewhere else.

Buyer beware. Johnson’s just charged me $ 100 to deliver bags of mulch less than a mile away. This hidden cost was not disclosed and when I mentioned it to the manager he responded brusquely(in so many words) «Too bad for you.» Nice products, ridiculous prices. This place has become spoiled and smug.

I go to Johnson’s just for house plants(they can’t compete with Trader Joe’s for flowers). I’ve been there four times over the past year, so this opinion is based on all of those visits, not just one extremely good(or bad) experience. I find their staff to be exceptionally knowledgable and helpful. I remember once I went in and I knew exactly what I wanted and after I was politely approached and I said I was«all set,» I was politely left alone. On another one of my visits I knew about what I wanted — a house plant that could thrive in low light conditions with little water– but I didn’t know which plant to select. During that visit one of the Johnson’s staff spent 30 minutes with me talking through various options and the different needs of each plant: light level, fertilizer, watering, growth speed. It was great. I walked out with a Dracaena that is still thriving in my basement. I find their selection and quality to be similarly excellent. Their plants are healthy and thriving each of the five plants I’ve bought from them is still that way now a year later, after following the care instructions of course! They also have a plethora of different size everything: plants and accessories to match. And not once did I ever experience someone trying to sell me more than exactly what I needed. I find their prices to be a bit high– $ 35 dollars for a basic starter house plant(plus fertilizer, pot, etc– it adds up) but considering the other two points I’ve mentioned: customer service and quality products, I’m willing to pay it and I will go back.

I have not had plants in years. Many, many years. For one thing, I have had cats until recently. For another, I travel. But, as I grow older, I find myself really wanting living things in the house. So — having recently moved to DC from Chicago, I had no idea where to look for plants. From what I could see online, I really had two options for nurseries that would deliver. One, which I won’t name, is near Eastern Market. When I called and inquired about delivery, they said that they only do so on the the weekends and quoted me a pretty steep price. And they were not super encouraging about the whole notion. The other was Johnson’s and I am super glad that I ended up there. I know NOTHING about plants but explained what I was looking for — the kind of light exposure I have, and my travel schedule for work, etc. and got really great advice on what kinds of plants or trees I should be looking for. I got a tree that I love and a pot that I love(though it was not cheap) and they are delivering it all for me on a Monday for a third of the price of the other nursery I called. They have a great selection of cut flowers, including some really unusual and tropical ones. They seemed to have a decent selection of outdoor plants(but I really am not expert in this), a good selection of indoor house plants, and really nice and helpful staff. Plus delivery at a reasonable rate.
