Charming small place with 2 floors. Waiter was efficient and polite in French(plus). I had the duck confit but didn’t realize it would be in a crêpe(though good) except please leave out the Brussel sprouts, unless you’ll purée them. They were the worse tasting sprouts I’ve had to date and it’s a fav of mine typically. Hubby had the pâté’ just okay, the eggs Benedict good but have had better. The free glass of wine with Unilocal coup was nice thanks.

The food is conceptually great, but the execution is lacking. For example the flavors of my Crêpe Parisienne were interesting and balanced, but inside the potatoes were undercooked and the sausage was cold. My entrée and dessert were similarly mediocre. Service is a little slow and jumbled and our main server seemed overcome with ennui. Overall the food is good and the ambiance is very pretty, but it’s a bit sad when the descriptions in the menu far exceed the actual food.

I’ve come to Le Grenier twice — once for lunch and once for dinner. Both times the food is between good and great. But the service is consistently terrible. As far as food goes, the ingredients are fresh and flavor is never lacking. I’ve ordered the eggs benedict which was okay, however my egg was so raw the whites were oozing more than the yolk… Everything else was fine. For dinner I’ve ordered the Bavette L’chalote. It was very good and tender and the red wine sauce was wonderful. The baguettes are so good I would make a trip here just for them. They’re very stingy on refilling your bread though. Overall the food is good but overpriced as most French restaurants are; worth 4 stars at best. However the service is worth a solid 2 – 3 stars if you’re feeling generous.

This is such a lovely neighborhood spot that I can’t bear to give it fewer than 4 stars even though my last visit was slightly disappointing. Brunch: 5 stars! I’ve been here twice for brunch now since I live only a few blocks away and both times it was absolutely amazing. The $ 20 for an appetizer or dessert + entrée + mimosa cannot be beat, and the food is incredible — I had the eggs benedict and the steak when I went and both were perfectly prepared. Dessert: 5 stars. The chocolate mousse is incredible as is the nutella crêpe. Happy hour: 5 stars. I just discovered their happy hour when my husband and I spontaneously came here yesterday to celebrate his promotion. All of the cheese, wine, and charcuterie were half off from 5 — 7pm at the bar, which meant that we got 5 cheeses and 4 glasses of wine for less than $ 30 dollars! The cheese was delicious, and I appreciated that the server even recommended what order to eat them in. Other recommenders have complained about the music at the bar, but my husband and I enjoyed it and felt like it was a very nice ambiance. Dinner: 2 stars. We probably should have stuck with just happy hour, but since we were celebrating we decided to get a few entrees too. We decided to order them to go so we could enjoy them at home, which was perhaps a mistake because of course food always tastes better immediately after it’s prepared, though our walk home is only 5 minutes. The entrees took almost an hour to come out(I remember because we ordered them right after happy hour ended at 7 and by 7:50 I looked at my watch to see how long we’d been waiting and the food still hadn’t shown up). I ordered the duck and my husband ordered the steak. The duck was very rubbery and the polenta that came with it was pretty bland. My husband ordered his steak medium and it was red and cold on the inside. Fortunately he is not super picky so it wasn’t a huge deal, and I was pretty full from all the cheese so I wasn’t too disappointed about not eating my entrée, though I felt a bit frustrated that we spent $ 25 on something I didn’t eat. Overall, I will definitely be back for brunch and happy hour and I highly recommend Le Grenier! I will be wary of doing dinner to go again, but I’ll probably give them another chance to see if the experience is better eating in.

I love this restaurant. From the moment you walk in, you feel as if you really could be eating at a small café in Paris. The waitstaff all speak French and the maître d’ also speaks French. The restaurant is decorated in an eclectic and curious way that invites your eye. It’s exposed brick throughout. You really should begin every meal with the selection of cheeses because they’re all fantastic. Creamy and delicious. The best option is to get the selection of three which includes some nice apple slices, black raspberries and mixed greens. Our entrées included the muscles which are quite good and a seafood dish that was like paella — fresh and tasty and went great with the bread. This spot isn’t too loud or big It’s a great night out.

Such a lovely restaurant. The décor pulls you into the side streets of Paris and you’ll forget you are in DC. Service was very attentive and our server was very informative. She was lovely. We love restaurants with corkage because both husbands have a massive collections of wines from around the world. Escargot, Salad Frisee w/poached egg both wonderful. Steak and Frites delicious. My duck had a little too much sweetness on the plate but was cooked perfectly. The seafood soup brine was delicious just a few too many potatoes for her taste. Shared the profiteroles which were perfect. Love the whole adventure here and will go back.

Really great brunch deal — $ 19.95 for appetizer or dessert plus entrée with a glass of champagne/mimosa. Such a deal is extremely rare in DC, and especially with such high quality food. I love trying new brunch places, and many are not always worth revisiting. We would definitely come back here for brunch again, or to try the dinner/wine menu. The only thing that left something to be desired was the coffee, but I can look past that. Loved the ambiance too, and good service. The benediction Argentil was so delicious, never had anything like it before. Overall, it was a great experience. Of all the French restaurants I’ve been to in DC, this definitely rates in the top tier!

What an interesting place. First off, this place seems to be a legit French restaurant if you are into that. The waiter is definitely French, and the food is also on point. Since I am not a French cuisine person, I can’t comment too much on the food. However, the ambience, the décor and the lovely waiter and waitress just throw you back to Europe all together. We made a reservation and came here on Friday night. It is not so crowded, no waiting line here due to post thanksgiving I assume. The restaurant is not very spacious and has a very beautiful yet tiny bar at the back of the first floor. The ambience here is cozy and intimate. The warm light and artistic décor makes you ready to enjoy a nice meal. Our table is at the second floor next to the kitchen entrance. Although I prob prefer sitting somewhere away from the kitchen, it also allows me to see all the dishes coming out. Our party of three started with the complimentary baguette. Their bread shows how authentic they are. The baguette is fresh made in the house, chewy and crisp on the outside but still feel soft inside. With a little butter on top, perfect! I had the catch of the day, which happens to be salmon. The skin was seared to perfection, crispy and just a little charred to give enough flavor and texture. The salmon is still moist inside. It comes with some sweet potato mash and beets. Drizzle some lemon on top, the sweet and tart combo is really well balanced. I enjoyed it very much. My friend got the steak, substitute with salad instead of fries. The steak is very tasty as well. My only concern is the portion here is rather tiny. I can see some people might not like this due to the small size they serve here. Hence I only give four star. Other than this, everything is well presented as an excellent French restaurant. I like it!

This was my second time visiting Le Grenier, and it was every bit as great as my first visit. This time, 2 friends and I made reservations for dinner, instead of brunch. I’m a wine fanatic so I was super excited to try the Beaujolais Nouveau that they just got in on Thursday, the day before my Friday night reservation. My friends and I got there for our 7:30pm reservation and were seated on the first floor in a booth by the window. Again, I have to commend you guys on the décor! It’s all just so lovely and homey! Our waitress was great and she answered all of our questions without hesitation. We ordered a bottle of the Beaujolais Nouveau for the table($ 27) and my god, I am so happy we did! It’s light, fruity, and INCREDIBLY smooth! I love wine glasses and I truly appreciated the cute wine glasses that were used! They are beautiful! I’d love to buy some for my home if I ever got the chance! Anywho, back to the experience! We ordered escargot and the Bouchee a la reine for the table. I had the Bouchee a la reine during my last visit but could not remember the name. If I thought it was good last time, it was fantastic this time! It was perfectly flaky and buttery, but the seafood was so fresh! Also, the bread! If I could eat Le Grenier’s fresh baguette every day, I would! I had also never had escargot before. I feared it’d be slimy and chewy. I’m so glad I gave it a shot! It was garlic/butter perfection that melted in your mouth. Speaking of melt in your mouth, my friend ordered the grilled beef medallions and OHMYGOD. I had a bite(or three) and they were cooked PERFECTLY. The meat basically disappeared as soon as it hit my tongue. I am definitely going for that next time(because there will be a next time). I ordered the Coq Au Vin and it was amazing! I love old school classics! The chicken fell off the bone! My other friend ordered steak, and that too was delicious! Perfectly cooked, although the beef medallions seemed more delicious(she ordered it rare, while my other friend ordered hers medium well). All in all, another fabulous dining experience at what is soon becoming my favorite restaurant in the neighborhood(or maybe even DC)!! I can’t wait to stop in again!

My new favorite French restaurant! It almost felt like a French grandma was in the kitchen making us dinner lol very homey, intimate, delicious food. The pastry with crab and mushroom inside of it was as an appetizer and it was delicious! The smoked salmon also an appetizer an absolute must. The veal and medallion beef were greatttt! Definitely coming back here :)

Excellent little bistro with magnificent ambiance. It’s quite quaint, homie, and great for a date. The menu is robust with strong culinary dishes offering variety for every palette and mood. Dee and partner-in-food-crime’s choices: Starters: L’assiette des moissons which was charcuterie(duck pâté, country pâté, and saucisson sec) & choice of cheese plate(Petit Basque, Bleue d’Auvergne, and Comté). What a great kick-off. The pâté was so rich it made you wanna bathe with Scrooge McDuck. I would slather a tiny bit on everything on the board and it instantly made it taste like heaven. Yes, heaven is the sixth basic taste after umami. And the saucisson(dried salami/cured sausage) had this pleasant crushed black pepper rim that went well with many of the cheeses. Wine pairing: Unfortunately I cannot recall the wines, but we each had a white. One was the Sauvignon Blanc around 8 or 9 per glass and the a Chardonnay that was about 12. I remember the Chardonnay being the superior choice, for it was crisp, dry yet balanced, light body, and not full oak-forward like American Chards. Entrées: Le Gabion(Seared Duck Magret, Polenta Cake, Rhubarb Chutney, Armagnac Orange Sauce) was good. I was not in love though. The polenta was pure perfection, the right amount of crème and flavor. The chutney had great potential, but TOO sweet. And the duck… was duck. And you never want«just» duck. I guess they used up all the good Daffy and Donald up in the pâté. The flavor just wasn’t there… Esope(Grilled lamb chop & merguez sausage duo, chestnut purée, cranberry-cinnamon marmelade, cognac sauce) was the WINNER! And sadly it was my partner’s dish, which meant I got to nibble a few delectable bites and watch the feast from across the table. They were two little lollipop chops(WARNING: if you are expecting a super-sized American style rack of animal… you have been forewarned) cooked excellently. But the SAUSAGE was unforgettable…(Nat King Cole begins to play in background)… so spicy, and jam-packed with flavor. But it was the chestnut PUREE that won us over… who? why? how? I… I… just cannot fathom how they managed such flavors. Ahhhhhhhh. My food crime partner offered many many bites… true love, is sacrificial love y’all! Wine pairing: Rhôné valley-Régions du Sud. Red. Crozes Hermitage — 2013 Ferraton-Matinière. Good fit for our dishes. Dessert: Unnecessary. The meal was perfect. That last bite of chestnut purée and sip of wine was the perfect ending.

We bought the Gilt voucher for brunch for two(two appetizers, entrees, desserts, and a bottle of champagne) and highly enjoyed the food and atmosphere. It was not crowded for a Saturday brunch, and the staff was very helpful and accommodating without being overly bearing. The décor is lovely, with brick lined gallery walls, classic French songs playing in the background, all making it feel very cozy — complete with a fireplace. From my experience eating French cuisine in France, Switzerland and Belgium, I can tell you that this is the closest it gets to the quintessential French restaurant in DC. Every single dish we tried was good. The duck liver(pâte maison), chef steak(steak du chef), eggs Benedict a la norvégienne and Nutella crêpe(crêpe Nutella) were my favorites. The hollandaise sauce was some of the best I’ve had, and the steak had the perfect amount of tenderness. Pricey but worth it. If you’re in the mood to get a taste of France without leaving DC, I highly recommend this place. Magnifique!

2.5 stars really Loved the french décor and the host with a very authentic french accent! After all the hype I finally made it to this place for brunch. I was intrigued by the $ 202-course brunch(entrée + appetizer or dessert, aaaannnnddd 1 glass of mimosa or champagne). I ordered the steak with a salad and a side of egg. Surprisingly the steak came out smothered, not covered, but smothered in gravy. Really? at 1215pm we’re serving steak and gravy? Being brunch an all I thought it would be simply grilled. There was also some hint of horseradish in the sauce. I ate would I could of the meat, then devoured the salad, the perfectly cooked egg over medium and polished the whole thing off with a nutella crêpe. The crêpe was cool, slightly greasy and but definitely not the best thing I ever had. All and all, I had a good time catching up with my friend in a cute place. I’d give just two stars but the ambiance great and the service was attentive. But clearly I came for the food, which wasn’t very impressive. If there was a next time, and that’s a big if, I’d come to chill for cocktail and that’s about it.

This is a really solid French spot. Upon ordering our appetizers, someone brought out bread and butter, served fresh and warm. Our actual meal started with my husband and I each ordering a French Onion soup and a side of fries with ketchup & mayonaisse. Seriously, the onion soup is the best I have ever had! Very cheesy and the broth was full of flavor. The fries were perfectly crisp and salty, and it was a generous portion for the price — definitely large enough for 2 people to share. We were so impressed with the soup that we decided to go ahead and order an entrée to split as well. The Crevettes Safranees didn’t disappoint! It was large enough to split after the soup and fries. I will definitely be making this place a regular on my list for H Street. The bill after a 20% tip and 3 alcoholic beverages came to just over $ 100. The waiter/bartender did seem to be stressed out and mentioned they were understaffed. However, he brought us everything we needed so I can’t complain!

Le Grenier is a nice little French place that punches well above its weight, but not without some exceptions. La Grenier is a cute French styled restaurant on H Street, meaning it’s a not in the best of neighborhoods, but isn’t exactly in a bad location. The interior décor is a sort of rustic, almost bohemian style French look, which I honestly liked quite a bit. In the evenings, this joint gets a bit dark, but brunch here is always bright and sunny. Service is honestly a teensy bit awkward and difficult to work with. Prices are quite average for the restaurant style and area. I had brunch here and found it rather decent. The mimosas were quite tasty, though perhaps a bit weak. The Eggs Benedicts à la Florentine were absolutely excellent, and probably were some of the best I’ve ever had in D.C. That said, they came with an absolutely overwhelming helping of french fries, which I found tasty, but a bit weird for the dish. The Crèpe Nutella was also good, though perhaps a bit small. All said, a solid brunch place!

How fortunate it was to come across this incredible gem on our DC trip! I enjoyed every bit of it. Having grown up in French-speaking Switzerland and visited Paris numerous times, this place brought me right back home! Starting with the definitively French accent of our server :) The interior design is gorgeous. I would call it artistic, rustic, and elegant. The large windows let in a lot of natural light, and I couldn’t get my eyes off the elegance of their 2-story tall curtains or their unique selection of suspended lighting. It only took one bite for me to tell that the owners of this establishment are French. Though this was not the very best French food I’ve ever had, it was very delicious and authentic. I would highly recommend checking out their $ 19.95 brunch special, which comes with a glass of mimosa, along with an appetizer/entrée combo or an entrée/dessert combo. Also, don’t forget to check in on the Unilocal App for a free glass of wine!

Visited this place last Sunday. Very nice deal for an entrée, dessert/appetizer and a mimosa/champagne. Who doesn’t want that? I made a reservation through Unilocal for 12:45pm but were arrived at the restaurant earlier than that. They were nice to seat us sooner. Interior design involves a lot of French taste. Food was good but I didn’t find it outstanding. I got the eggs benedict a la norvegiene. I got mines with salad. Poached eggs were cooked really well. Yolk was not fully cooked — just perfect. As a dessert I got the crème caramel but I wished to have gotten the ice cream or the crepes. Ohh, and if you check in on Unilocal you get a free glass of white or red wine.

Awesome atmosphere, reasonably priced. When you walk into Le Grenier you will feel like you stepped into France. They turned an old townhouse into a beautiful and well decorated restaurant. Sure it’s a little cramped, but the space transitioned well. When discovering their incredibly reasonably priced brunch menu, I knew I needed to go. For $ 19.95 you get your choice of a drink(mimosa or champagne), appetizer and entrée or drink, entrée and dessert. Great deal, right? Well, that’s where the experience at Le Grenier goes downhill. Our server whom I believe is the owner muttered specials to us under his breath very quickly and fetched our mimosa. We both got a different type of Eggs Benedict, which were unflavored(thank goodness for the salt and pepper on the table) and smothered spinach and hollandaise sauce. Needless to say it was nothing to impressive considering neither one of us could finish our meals. Upon seeing someone else order the nutella crêpe; we did, too. Again, nothing to write home about the nutella was the best part of the crêpe. Overall, I am disappointed with such a such build up for Le Grenier. I wanted to fall in love with this place from start to finish, but I simply cannot. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing, or maybe brunch isn’t the meal they do best.

Excellent brunch deal: $ 18.95 = One appetizer + one entrée or one entrée + one dessert with a glass of Champagne Blanc de Blanc or Mimosa. This restaurant has a lot of charm — I loved the French music playing in the background. During our Sunday morning visit, I devoured a bowl of the savory Ragout de Lentilles aux Merguez(grilled merguez sausage, green lentil stew with carrots, caramelized onions, green salad) and enjoyed a perfectly chilled glass of champagne. Amazing dish — the lentils were so tender and the sausages had so many interesting flavors. I’m already planning my next visit to Le Grenier — their menu is fantastic!

Solid choice. My friends and I were wandering H street and stumbled upon Le Grenier. Despite the restaurant being fairly full and us not having reservations, we were miraculously seated immediately. I loved that the sunlight came streaming through the window, providing a soft light to illuminate what looked like a Pinterest worthy interior. The menu binding makes it look like a cute blue book, and is filled with several pages of options. I had hoped for a healthier brunch but being at a French place makes living up to that vow difficult. I ended up ordering the Crêpe du Berger, a crêpe filled with butternut squash, goat cheese, and walnuts, listed under the appetizer section. The crêpe came served on a classy slate slab, A+ on presentation. The filling was tasty as well — though the cheese tasted more like Brie than what I typically would expect of goat cheese. My fellow diners ordered the French Onion soup, the ham and cheese omelette, and the eggs Benedict. All were delicious, according to them. One note on the soup — there is a lot of cheese. Definitely a tasty dish if you’re a fan of melty cheese — though again, not the healthiest. As far as French places go, this is probably the best I’ve had in DC. Service was a little slow, but our French waiter was attentive to keeping our small water glasses filled. Also, décor was cute and ambiance was good. I’d recommend this place to friends — and will likely return if I’m ever craving some good French cuisine!
