I went for the first time recently and they were friendly, quick, and professional. I only needed the waist taken in on a skirt and asked to have it back in a week. I received a text message the very next day letting me know it was ready. The alteration was flawless and very affordable. I will definitely be back for any basic tailoring needs.

A good friend recommended me Lee’s Custom Tailoring and Cleaners and boy was I glad I came here. I bought a suit from brooks brothers that I thought was a little too square but the tailor at brooks bros refused to take my inputs on alterations for the suit since they tend to be very conservative/​targeted towards older men.
Anyways, I decided to give Lee’s a try and the owner was super friendly and professional. She saw that I was in my late-​twenties and gave me all kinds of options on what people my age like to wear. We spent a good 20mins just adjusting the right sleeve length, jacket length, how much to take in around the waist on the jacket, and pant length. She offered her advice and gave me examples of what looks trendy vs classic. She was also very receptive to my inputs/​questions.
The jacket and pants turned out so perfectly fitting. I eventually wore it to a black tie holiday event and my co-​workers thought I had a much more expensive suit =P. Next time I buy a suit, I’m skipping the store tailoring and will just come here instead.

I tried call Lee’s Custom Tailoring & Cleaners. They did answered my call but they hanged up my call very quickly. Because I call through interpreter rely call because I am Deaf. I feel that it is unrespect and not good service to customers. So, I checked other service and very happy with The press dry cleaning & laundry. They did took my call and answer my questions. I would recommend The Press Dry Cleaning & Laundry NOT LEE’S Custom Tailoring & Cleaners if you want to have a good service THEN The Press Dry Cleaning & Laundry.

I found Lee’s Custom Tailoring through Unilocal and am very pleased with the tailoring (I have not used the dry cleaning). The current owners have been there about 2 years so some of the older reviews here may not be applicable to them.
I took two expensive dresses to have the sides taken in and to have them hemmed. The dresses fit perfectly after the tailoring. The tailor has 25 years of experience and it is evident in her work — both in fitting and in professional sewing.
I have taken more clothes to be tailored and I can’t wait to pick them up! I will continue the use their services.

If you are in need of getting anything tailored, hemmed, or altered in DC, I highly recommend Lee’s. I had to get my bridesmaid dress hemmed before my flight. My own fault for waiting up until the very last minute but Lee’s hemmed the dress right away. I dropped the dress off at 8am and I received an email by 10am notifying me the dress was done! I was so shocked at the turn around time! The hem cost $ 45 which is understandable given the time restraint I had. It is only a few blocks away from the U Street Metro.

Very rude and they close before the posted time. Never going back.

I’ve become quite the regular customer here since it’s hard to beat the convenience of this place. The hours are decent and although I personally think it’s a tad pricey, they do good work. I’ve taken everything from my down comforter, dress suits, to shoes needing the heal repaired, and designer jeans to be hemmed here and have been satisfied every time. Not to mention – they finish their stuff fast! I’ve had everything ready max 3 days after I bring it in – not bad. As long as you’re very clear with what you’d like done in terms of alterations, you know what you’re getting. I have to clarify myself and be a little picky when they were hemming my pants but it all turned out well in the end.
The only drawback for me is the $ but I have yet to find a better deal so close to my apartment/​office.

Bang for your buck. I searched the area and couldn’t find anyone cheaper. Got on 3 pants altered, and 4 garments cleaned. The alterations weren’t perfect but satisfied me fine. Be sure to let them know where the stains are that you want cleaned — they’ll mark them and take care of it. Otherwise, they may miss them.

What better way to spend Labor Day than ripping out the hem on the jeans I took to Lee’s.
I brought in a pair of jeans to be hemmed and requested that they keep the original hem stitching.
The jeans were ready at the scheduled time, but when I tried them on they were at least two inches too long!
They redid them for free and the jeans were ready the next day. They actually still seemed slightly long, but by that time I was done with Lee’s.
I took a closer look at the hem and realized that although they kept the original stitching, they also kept all the extra length fabric — it was simply folded underneath! It had been doubled over and hemmed up about three inches higher than the bottom of the pants. It was difficult to see this second hem line from the outside of the pants, so I hoped it would be okay.
As I wore the pants, they developed a crease at the three inch hem! So here I am on Labor Day pulling out the three inch hem, only to discover another hem line sewed in between the first two. Whoever sewed these created a more work for themselves and left me with a pair of jeans that showed the weird double hem.
For $ 15 bucks + my day off I might do the work myself next time. The only upshot is that they didn’t totally ruin the pants, hence the two stars instead of one.

So here’s the thing — I’ve been off carbs for a month surviving on raw beef and vodka and in that time I’ve lost over 10 lbs. Sup, beauty queen?
It was then I realized. FUCK. My suit probably doesn’t fit anymore. With an important meeting on the horizon, I chose to skip the tailor and buy new.
After my gorgeous purchase I had a new suit but unfinished pants. ENTER Lee’s. After a Unilocal search of «same day alterations» this shop, conveniently located across the street from my office, popped to the top of the list. I tip toed thru the tulips and hobos of downtown DC and was guaranteed hemmed pants by 3PM.
And wouldn’t you know it — hemmed pants by 3PM SAME DAY for a total of $ 12.69. ENTER Mariah… And then a hero comes along…

Expensive and truly poor quality. I had the seam open on a couple sweaters and asked for a simple mend. Lee’s took thick black thread and Frankensteined a really simple seam back together like they were sewing a canvas sack. Trust me, if I wanted thick black thread sewn simply threaded around the seam on both sides of the sweater with horrible bunching, I would have done it myself. I’ve really never seen anything like it. To be fair, I did not take it back and complain as I just can’t think of what to say to anyone who thought that was a reasonable way to mend a seam and the other reviews lead me to expect that it would be an unpleasant waste of my time.
As for the dry-​cleaning, my husband has also taken two sweaters in with stains, pointed them out, and nevertheless they came back to me with the same stains still in place. Fortunately, I took a damp cloth to them and got them out very easily, but that kind of makes me wonder if Lee’s is even dry-​cleaning the clothes that come in. I suspect they often just press/​steam them and send them back.
Lee’s is easily the closest tailor/​dry cleaner, so I really wanted to make it work, but they are really just that bad. I’m calling it quits before they ruin any more of my clothes.

I had a terrible experience with Lee’s, and I will never go back. One of my dresses was entirely ruined.
Since I’m new to the area, I hadn’t found a good tailor yet, so I figured I’d give Lee’s a try (seemed pretty safe, given the number of good reviews posted on
). I took two designer dresses to be altered. Both needed to be hemmed, and one needed a small adjustment made to the straps; these were very basic alterations. The quote I was given was very high ($ 76 to hem and adjust the straps for one dress; $ 55 to hem the second dress). But, both dresses were expensive and I was willing to pay for careful, high-​quality tailoring.
Unfortunately, one of my dresses was completely ruined. The straps were re-​attached in two different places, so when I put the dress on, the neckline was visibly crooked. The hem was also sloppily done– the seamstress hacked off an uneven piece of cloth, and then sewed a crooked, puckered hem. The hem of the dress was a good ½” shorter in the front than in the back.
When I took my dress back to Lee’s to complain, the woman I spoke to was inordinately rude. Not only did she NOT apologize for the inconvenience she caused me (I had purchased my dress for a wedding, and because of the problems with the tailoring, was unable to wear it to the wedding), she yelled at me in full view of the other customers in the store, apparently disgruntled that she would have to re-​do her work. She also tried to convince me that the disasterous hemline was a result of sloppy pressing, not uneven stitching.
I asked for a refund for the $ 76 that I paid to have the dress altered, and I also asked that Lee’s reimburse me for the mangled dress. They refused to do either. The woman I spoke to said that «she’s only human» and that it’s unreasonable of me to expect my alterations to be done right the first time.

It’s alright if you’re in a pinch… but alterations are expensive! Got a quote to alter a bridesmaid’s dress here: hem, $ 30… top: $ 68?!
Service is decent. I waited longer than I’d have liked for the folks at the counter to have an entire conversation before acknowledging my presence.
Conclusion: I’m still searching for a tailor ’round here…

I LOVE this place. They have hemmed my new designer jeans a few times and done an excellent job: fast and cheap.

I discovered Lee’s when I worked nearby, and even though I neither live nor work especially close anymore, I keep coming back for their tailoring services.
Lee’s is not cheap, but they’re FAST and have managed to alter and re-​bead a gown in 24 hrs, and completely redo the neckline of another in 12 hrs. I’m also pretty short and so have to have most of my pants hemmed (including jeans) and jacket sleeves taken up, and they always do a great job (on jeans especially — they use the original bottoms).
I recommend Lee’s to everyone for their tailoring; I have only had one or two things dry cleaned there, but not being all that close to home or work anymore, I only use their tailoring services.

I was very pleased with the work and the price for suit tailoring. Offhand, I think the cost of tailoring one suit was $ 104.
I had also brought in one of my other suits (same designer — Brioni, of course) that had been previously tailored elsewhere because I was happy with how it fit. And the owners were very accommodating when I said I wanted this suit done to the exact same specs that my other suit was tailored. And they did it.

I wanted to get my boyfriend’s favorite sportcoat repaired. he’d worn holes in the sleeves, the pockets, and the lining was a mess. The woman who accepted the jacket made suggestions and quoted me a price on the spot, and then was great about working with me to find a way to keep the project within budget. She’d originally suggested replacing the lining, but that would have put the cost at over $ 80 – a little much for a thrift-​store jacket we paid $ 40 for. So instead she removed the lining, which looks fine to me and which my boyfriend loves. Also, my guy had said he wanted leather patches on the elbows where the holes were, and she insisted that I bring my own. This isn’t exactly a negative, because I was able to pick patches out from nearby Exquisite Fabrics on K st and possibly save money on markup. but kind of weird that they didn’t offer to buy them for me.
Good location, reasonable prices, good service. I don’t get a lot of stuff dry cleaned or tailored but if I needed to, I’d go back here.

Good enough of a dry cleaner’s that I will continue using them. The prices are average and the service is reasonably fast — dry cleaning is done in two days. They offer basic shoe repairs like new heel taps and new soles but the soles are black, super durable rubber soles so keep that in mind if you’re looking to get ladies dress shoes resoled. Repairs on shoes take about four days and, again, are reasonably priced.
In one instance, a dress I took to be cleaned was not well cleaned when I got it back — there were deodorant marks in the pits that hadn’t been removed. The store owner recleaned it for free. Now I make it a point to point out anything like that on garments I take in.
I have never had a problem with items being lost. Belts and such are always firmly attached to the garment when I pick it up. They have also done minor repairs like tacking hems or tightening up buttons without being asked and free of charge.
The store offers alterations and same-​day laundry service but I haven’t used either service so I can’t vouch for the quality of the service.
This store has been reliable enough that I will keep using it until my dry cleaning jinx kicks in and drives them out of business like it did my last three dry cleaners.
