I actually got to hang out with one of the On The Fly managers this evening at the NoMa James Bond Film Festival and had the fortune of being offered a taste of their SmartKart food(thanks, Lynn!). All I have to say about it is that the Korean bulgogi cart on 14th and L has some serious competition for my food cart love. Ms. Miyagi, the cute green-emblemed white truck typically stationed down by the National Arboretum, kept calling out to me with a welcoming«Konichiwa» all evening but my work responsibilities came first. Thus, it wasn’t until she had to leave, around 2100 hours, that I was able to partake of her warm and tangy soft taco. I would have loved to have tried one of Julia’s vaunted empanadas, which she also offers up! Served in a small dish, the pulled pork carnitas taco was wrapped in a reasonably standard soft tortilla. Tender meat, mixed with bright citrus, mouthwatering creamy spicy sauce, and a little wedge of lime filled my mouth with satisfaction. Even in my hungry haste, it still took a good seven or eight good bites to demolish my taco, and shortly thereafter, my tummy said, «Domo arigato, Ms. Miyagi!» Should I happen to stumble upon one of these On The Fly carts around town, I have a feeling that I’d have to restrain myself from chasing it down to get at the healthy, yummy edibles inside.
