Ordered half Pepperoni and onion and half Staven. Mediocre at best on delivery. Crust soggy, kind of cold, pepperoni good. paid 31 $ plus 5 dollar tip… I’ve been to Friendship location which is better but this is last time I order from them

Best Pizza in town. Love the thin crust cheese pizza. The caesar salad is also delicious. We usually get a take-out pie but Pete’s also sells by the slice which is great for quick-takeout. Overall the best pizza around.

Pete’s is really expensive for pizza, but so so so good! Please get a location in the H Street area! My fave is the Elm City with no chicken — delish!

Not impressed. Granted I didn’t get pizza when I went, but based on what I had I don’t think it would be worth a return trip. I ordered carryout and got: — Small order of Arancini(came with five arancini balls, pretty generous) — Small crispy goat cheese salad — Linguini pasta The arancini and the linguini were both seriously underseasoned. Very bland and a bitter taste running through both. Only two of the arancini had visible lumps of mozzarella in the middle. I didn’t get a chance to taste the goat cheese salad, because they forgot it. When I ordered, they said it would be 20 minutes, and though I got there 20 minutes later, the food was still being prepared and they couldn’t find my order in their system. Only upside is that all of the employees are really friendly and nice; the person who was ringing me up felt bad that it was taking so long and gave me a free drink. But the nicest employees couldn’t make bad food taste better, so I will be avoiding Pete’s in the future.

I like Petes more than two Amy’s and less than pizza paradiso. Take that as you will. I’m a meat eater but I always get veggie pizzas here– delicious! I’ve never had anything but pizza so can’t speak to the rest of the menu. They deliver!

I tried Pete’s New Haven Style pizza for the first time recently and I can’t say I’m a fan. The style of pizza is interesting, but this particular location might just have been meh. Service wasnt the best and they really don’t have great pizza options. I ordered a slice of veggie pizza and it tasted bland and was small for $ 4. Totally not worth it. DC has a lot better pizza restaurants and I think I’d opt to go somewhere else in the future.

Come here for lunch often. I’m a huge fan of the veggie pizza. I’ve also had the lasagna which is pretty good. One of the few places on the area that I’ve seen that serves gelato as well. I’d recommend for a quick and casual bite.

Pete’s is my favorite pizza place in DC, and I have been to all of the other popular ones. I recommend getting a fresh full pie over individual slices if possible because the pizza slices don’t last well. My favorite pizza is the Margherita but a close runner up is the Boola Boola. The New Haven pizza is authentic and legit but beware it’s for advanced pizza users only and might turn some people off. The biggest complaint I hear about Pete’s, which is true, is that it is on the expensive end for pizza. If you’re looking for a cheap slice, you should probably go somewhere else(e.g. jumbo slice). In full disclosure, I am from New Haven and so I am definitely biased towards New Haven style apizza. This place doesn’t quite match up to the legendary greats(e.g. Sally’s or Pepe’s) but it’s high quality pizza nonetheless.

This is the best delivery pizza I’ve had in DC, but it leaves much to be desired. The pizza stands in an awkward middle ground — too much sauce, yet a crust that lacks the texture and composition to produce a well-crafted pie. Either it needs more cheese to match the sauce or it needs to cut the sauce and work on the crust. Either way it is high quality pizza with a few kinks to work out. I will definitely order from them again, until I find a good delivery Neapolitan place.

Have you had veggie pizza so delicious you were shocked it existed? I did. This little story in the middle of Columbia heights where there as people of all backgrounds shocked me. Outside its doors there are most certainly people selling drugs but it has nothing to do with the restaurant. So ignore them and walk in. Everyone else does. We ordered by the slice. I had the vegetarian and cheese. We also ordered calamari. My friend had a side salad as well. The calamari had olives mixed in with it and I don’t like olives so it was lost on me. The veggie pizza did not have any mushroom or olives. It was like meant for someone like me who doesn’t like either of those toppings! It was soooo delicious. The crust was crisp to perfection, the veggies were an excellent blend and the sauce was the perfect touch. Oh how happy I was when I found such delicious veggie pizza! The store is clean, large and the service is excellent. This is very good pizza. Give the veggie pizza a try!

Saw the Groupon and figured«12 dollars for 20 bucks worth of pizza»…Why not? I wanted to get a pretty good idea of what their pizzas were like, so I ordered two smalls to share– one New Haven and one Down the Hill; the New Haven shined, the Down the Hill didn’t. I really enjoyed the New Haven despite the fact that I’m generally not a fan of white pizzas. The minimalistic blend of garlic, cheese, and clam strips really worked well. The clam strips were perfectly portioned so as not to overwhelm the other elements of the pizza. And the thin and crispy, partially charred crust offered a solid foundation for this well executed pie. If I had simply ordered a large New Haven, I would probably be crafting a five-star review right now. But I didn’t, so here goes… The Down the Hill did everything wrong that the New Haven did right. First of all, sauce is really important to me(hence, my general distaste for white pizza), but I could barely taste it here. Either they used too little sauce, or the sauce was simply devoid of flavor– either way, not good. There were too many toppings-mushrooms, meatball, sausage, roasted peppers, caramelized onions, and cherry peppers(I subbed out the olives)-for the thin crust to adequately support. And they violated one of my biggest pizza no-nos: The toppings were proportioned horribly, they were suffocating one side of the pizza, but nowhere to be found on the other. I could tell they were busy, but that’s no reason to haphazardly slop pies together. Fortunately, I was able to fill up on the New Haven and pass most of this disaster off to the dogs. For this place, less is definitely more. For best results, go with fewer toppings and stick to their white pizzas.

I finally made the jump and checked this place out after living nearby for quite a while. We ordered the apple salad, goat cheese salad, and a medium pizza– Edge of the Woods on half and the Game on the other. We got it to-go and waited less than 15 min around dinner time. I preferred the apple salad content wise, but did not like the dressing at all– it was way too sweet. The goat cheese salad was pretty basic, but the goat cheese itself came as a fried ball of cheese. Not a fan. The dressing was ok though. I would highly recommend the Game. It was very flavorful and well balanced. Edge of the Woods was pretty bland in comparison, and the fried eggplant just did not turn out to be as great as I thought it would. Overall, not great but pretty good for pizza. I still don’t really understand what New Haven style is. Thin crust??? Somebody help me out here.

New Haven style pizza… wth is that I thought to myself. I’m from Chicago. We do pizza. Well, I’m eating my words, literally. Our office ordered a bunch of pizzas from Pete’s in Columbia Heights the other day and I was quite impressed. The crust reminded me of my grandma’s homemade Middle-Eastern bread we call taboon. Thin, crispy and chewy with what tasted like a hint of olive oil, perhaps. We ordered the Margerita, the Green, the Long Warf, the Cutlers and the Arugula. I don’t eat pork so I can’t tell you about the cutlers, but the long warf, green and margarita were freaking delicious! I usually love tons of cheese but actually enjoyed the understated amount on Pete’s. They were all so flavorful. I also normally have to have my pizza either piping hot or refrigerator cold. I happened to eat these at room temperature and found them to still be absolutely yummy. The bread remained chewy, didn’t harden. The cheese was also still soft. I’m also usually a crust lover and like a thick crust. I felt like you got the best of both worlds with Pete’s, a thin crust with a thicker end. That works for me! I’ll definitely be considering Pete’s next time I’m in the mood for real pizza. Now I get what the mystic pizza thing was about…

I enjoyed Pete’s. I had the game pizza and my sweetheart had a cheese pizza and a cedar salad. The croutons in the salad were amazing and they also had baked parmigian crisps in the salad that were delicious. It was nice that they had wine available and for a fairly fast food place, it was romantic and cozy.

A great convenient place to have a quick bite. Located right next to the Columbia Heights metro station and it open until 10 pm during the weekday. I found the pizza is much better than the pasta. I always find the pasta not al dente. The pizza is generally good but sometimes the bottom is burnt beyond edible. All in all, I go for the convenience.

Pete’s is ok. Their crust is a bit too thin for my liking but I like the cheese they use and the toppings they offer are top-notch. It’s definitely some of the least greasy pizza I’ve had in D.C. On another positive note, I’ve always had good delivery experiences with them. Even during peak dinner hours, I’ve never waited more than 45 minutes-an hour for a pizza. Despite the quick delivery service, the pizza is often a little cold — not freezing, but not as warm as other places I’ve ordered from. And while Pete’s is certainly a step-up from your garden variety chains, it’s not good enough to justify the steep prices. Tonight, I ordered a two-topping medium pie with a side of arancini, which came out to $ 29. Add in a $ 5 tip for delivery and that’s just too much money to shell out for slightly above average pizza. The arancini is good but I think they periodically change some of the ingredients in it. Right now, it includes some blue cheese, which I hate. Just a fair warning to other blue cheese haters out there.

DC is a city of transplants. Most of us came here from some other part of the country, bringing with us our homegrown loyalties, to sports teams, to weather patterns and driving habits, and especially to our hometown culinary delicacies. Just as someone from Philadelphia casts a critical eye on any DC cheesesteak, or someone from Chicago or Pittsburgh would scoff at any substandard pierogi, those of us who grew up in New Haven have a high bar for pizza, and if you claim to be specifically imitating our style, you set yourself up for our strictest scrutiny. That being said, I’m wiling to give Pete’s two different grades, one in comparison to real New Haven pizza and another on its own a priori merits as pizza. The first grade is just so-so. They’ve pretty much gotten the crust right, which is an important step, and one of the most distinctive features of New Haven pizza. The toppings are pretty tasty, although I’ve always felt they go a little light on the mozzarella. Their biggest downfall is the sauce, which I find too sweet, and the lack of a drowning amount of olive oil, another trademark of a New Haven pizza. Forgetting the comparison, though, the second grade as just pizza is that it’s pretty darned good, and way better than plenty of other quick pizza-by-the-slice or delivery places around town. If you live anywhere near Pete’s, you have no excuse for ever ordering Papa John’s. I also have to give Pete’s extra credit for two aspects completely unrelated to the pizza itself. First, the writing on the door referring to it as «apizza» and providing the traditional Neapolitan dialect pronunciation of the word as «a-beets,» a nod to the roots of New Haven’s Italian community from the Naples/Amalfi region of Italy. Second, the names of almost all of the pies themselves are references to New Haven landmarks and institutions, many of which have been defunct for years, but anyone who grew up there in the 80s-90s should recognize them, and it’s a nice little bit of geographic street cred. If you’re from New Haven, don’t go in expecting Pete’s to taste like you just sat down at Pepe’s or Sally’s back home, but keep an open mind. If you’re not from New Haven, just enjoy the pizza on its own merits, because it really is a good slice or pie that you’re getting.

Great pizza with very interesting toppings, etc. A bit on the pricey side but if you want cheap, go to Pizza Hut or something. They have miscellaneous discounts! Like, 10% off for students. Check them all out here they are actually pretty good:

This place is pricey for pizza, but worth it. Plus, always look on discount sites like groupon to check first. The eggplant pizza is all I ever order. Plain is delicious, I’m sure they’re all great but I can’t get enough of the eggplant. If only my paycheck would support it, I’d be eating it every night.

Got delivery today– the person on the phone was very friendly and helpful, the pizza was delivered a few minutes before their estimate, and it was hot and what we ordered. The pizza is fine, but didn’t think anything special of it especially at 26 $ for one topping large delivered. The crust is overly chewy– good for the waistline since after a few slices(the large is cut into two inch wide slices) my jaw was too tired to go on. I wouldn’t put up a fight with someone that wanted to go here, but I probably would try something other than the pizza. I will update the review when I get a chance to explore more of their menu.
