This truck is hardly around my work hood so when I saw that they were going to be nearby, I made a beeline for them. As I said in my previous review, I normally get the banh mi but this time I decided to get the tacos with pork belly and sriracha mayo on top. It was umm… umm.good. I liked the roti canai they used for the taco – it didn’t break and it held up really nicely. The flavors were on point. I took a side of sriracha – the mayo wasn’t enough kick for me! The person taking orders was super friendly… he even called me «Jess» like we were old buddies ;-) I highly recommend this food truck, if they are in your area, give them a try!

Deeelish!!! I had the tacos and the tastes exploded nicely together with a little spice, a little sweet and a hint of cilantro. Pure bliss.

Eating my way through the DC food truck scene, Phở Wheels still stands strong with their new creative ideas and collaborations. I can’t think of any other food truck that continues to push the boundaries of their craft. Their new creations are not only innovative but taste good too! My go-to is the croissant pork belly banh mi. Who would of thought replacing the french baguette with a buttery croissant could taste so amazing. Same with the tacos! Replacing the tortilla with a roti canai(malaysian flat bread) giving the taste more depth. My personal favorite are the Spam Musubi tacos which are only around if you’re lucky. Shout outs to the people of Phở Wheels for crushing the food truck game!

My friends and I waited in the cold for an hour and when it was our turn to order, they were out of everything. We ended up going to Snocream. Maybe next time Phowheels ;(

About a 1 – 1.5: PhoWheels is a family-based food truck business that offers a Vietnamese fusion of banh mis(chicken, pork belly, or mushroom-onion tofu), tacos(chicken, pork belly, or mushroom-onion tofu), and phở(beef noodle soup-based with the option of eye-round steak, beef meatballs, chicken, poached egg, deep-fried cheese, and bread stick). I tried the Pork Belly of the banh mi(this came with your choice of a baguette or a ‘croissant’ sub, cucumber, pickled radishes & carrots, and truffle aioli; I opted for the croissant sub, and this was extremely dry and not the usual buttery, flaky soft croissant that you’d expect; the pork belly pieces were a bit odd, as they were little rectangular prisms; the banh mi itself was quite large in size, but the taste a bit off, as it was more tangy and sour, rather than the savory I would expect from the pork belly; also, the sandwich did not hold the fillings well, so it was a little difficult to eat!), and a Pork Belly of the taco(this came with pickled radishes & carrots, sriracha lime may, and in a roti canai(a Malaysian flatbread); this was okay, and slightly better than the banh mi — the pork belly used was the same, and while the filling was a bit creamier, I think the roti canai was an interesting layer as it was slightly chewy and a unique twist compared to using a flour tortilla). These came in an open tray, and if you take it to go, it comes in a brown bag; just make sure you carry it carefully, as the items do not come with lids. Service was friendly, and the truck takes both card and cash. While this truck may have the longest line out of all the trucks in the area, I honestly was a bit disappointed with the food. It was a bit too pricey for the lack of savoriness in each! +dried out croissant ‘sub’ breads T___T +off taste of the pork belly T___T +roti canai +underwhelming banh mis T___T +friendly service +takes both card and cash +no lid on food items

Amazing Pork Belly Tacos. These are savory pork belly slices with cilantro, the pickled banh mi veggies present in so many good Vietnamese sandwiches, and a special Sriracha Lime Mayo– all of this on a Roti as the tortilla. Crunchy, savory, sweet, tangy, and phở-nomenol haha. Their Banh Mi Sandwiches are also good– they have the option of a croissant as the bread. Will definitely go here again. Also, the truck is outfitted with random stickers(super cool!) OH and they take card! Bless.

I ordered the pork belly banh mi and it had to be THEE best I ever had. I got it on baguette, but may have to try it on croissant next time. Definitely recommend for lunch.

I had the pleasure of eating from this food truck at a car meet. I ordered the pork belly tacos and from the first bite to the last they were amazing! I had to stop myself from going back and getting another order. My friend got Phở with steak and he loved it as well. I’m definitely going to eat there again.

Went here for #TacoTuesday while I was in DC. I ordered 1 chicken and 1 porkbelly for just $ 9. The portions were actually slightly bigger than the other taco places around. The meats were seasoned very well and the pickled veggies plus the sriracha mayo are a great combination. But the X-factor here is the Roti Canai. Using malaysian flatbread as the taco shell is genius and almost made me want to order more. Phowheels tacos are definitely a must try if you get the chance to stop by their food truck.

This is one of my favorite food trucks. I’ve visited them a couple of times and I’ve never been disappointed. I’m a creature of habit so I’ve just gotten their banh mi with a fried egg. Also, the staff is super friendly. If I see you all around, I’ll be back!

Personally, I’m not a huge veggie person. At a Vietnamese restaurant, if I order phở, I tell them«no greens» and if I order banh mi, I just take out the veggies and eat the meat. With that being said… I ordered the spam musubi taco’s and the pork belly taco’s. I figured tacos would be the right choice since I’ve seen SOOO many pictures of taco’s from PhoWheels on social media. I was skeptical at first because there were a good amount vegetables on the bottom of the tacos… but it turned out to be AMAZING. The combination of the sauce, meat, and the vegetables was delicious. I ended up buying another set of taco’s to take home to my husband and he ended up loving it too! I definitely can’t wait to go back and try out their other food!!! PS: Spam musubi taco isn’t always on their menu from what I hear so when you do see it on their menu, ORDERIT. You won’t regret it.

Ok… I just want to say that I’ve been creepishly stalking these guys on IG forever. Trying to find the perfect time to strike! Every time I find out where they are… the lines is SOOO long. Go home people! This is all mine! Anyways, I finally tracked them down behind a K-mart in Annandale. Yes, I know that sounds super creepy and no i’m not really that creepy. At least my mom says I’m not, but anyways I digress. I ordered their phở and my gf ordered a bahn mi. Man, they were both DELICIOUS. Probably one of the better phở’s I’ve ever had. Idk, maybe it was because it was freezing out, but the broth was soo good. Not too salty, but not too bland. It legit gave me the feels when I slurped up the awesomeness. The Bahn Mi? Delicious also. Do I dare say that it might be better than DC Bahn Mi? I think I’ll have to try it one more time before I give them that title. Don’t worry Phở Wheels… you can run, but you can’t hide…

A staple food truck in the DMV area with a nice modern Asian twist. Banh mi(both chicken and pork belly): nice flavors, meat was slightly overdone 4⁄5 Banh mi taco: this Asian fusion dish is probably the highlight of this food truck. The crunchy taco she and banh mi meat and veggie filling tasted delicious! Definitely a great twist to your traditional viet sandwich 5⁄5 ho with steak: a little underwhelming, noodles were a little on the chewy side, and soup was too sweet for my liking. 3⁄5

Hmm I was hoping I would like this place but I really felt meh about both of the food options I tried here. I was going to go to four sisters grill across the street but saw this food truck and decided to try it out. I ordered the«half smoke» special and pork belly banh mi on regular bread. Neither I really enjoyed. The half smoke special had a weird flavor that just was not my cup of tea, even though it looked pretty. The banh mi was fine tasting but had too many green onions that I think overpowered all the other flavors(and I am normally a green onion lover). I would maybe come back to try the phở or tacos but stick to four sisters for the sandwiches. Three stars because the truck girl was really friendly.

4.5 stars. Hands down, THEBEST food truck in the DMV. And believe me, I have had a plentiful share of food trucks that roam around DC and its outskirts. I am a huge fan of the banh mi here. These sandwiches stray away from the traditional banh mi that you can find in Eden Center, but that’s what makes them so amazing! What makes them so different you ask? Well, first of all, there’s the fact that you can get it on a croissant bread(SOGOOD *eyes rolls to the back of head*) AND the meat/vegan toppings are very different from your traditional vietnamese sandwich. You can choose from either soy garlic chicken, 5 spice maple glazed pork belly, or mushroom-onion tofu. I have personally tried both the soy garlic chicken and 5 spice maple glazed pork belly and enjoyed both equally as much. ***Side note: You MUSTNOT skimp out on the fried egg on your banh mi. It makes all the difference. The phở itself was actually surprisingly tasty. It wasn’t as good as the top rated phở places in the DMV, but it certainly would not rank on the lower end of the totem pole of phở either. The phở was good, especially with a poached egg, but if you are looking for something more reasonably priced, I’d opt for a sit down restaurant. Either way, I continue to come back for the sandwiches. It’s alllll about the banh mis baby. ;) The same sandwich fillings can be ordered in taco form as well. I’m not a huge fan of the tacos, although they are decently good. I much prefer the french bread with its soft, flaky crust, or the lightly crispy buttered croissant bread. I wasn’t that big of a fan of their vietnamese iced coffee either, however I did enjoy the bottled iced coffee that they once sold. Overall, my favorite food truck in the DMV thus far. I would eat here everyday if it would not make me gain so much weight and burn a hole in my wallet. :)

Finally got to try phở wheels when they came to Annandale with Snocream! I really liked the tacos. I got one pork belly taco and one chicken taco(comes with two tacos). I like I liked the pork belly more than the chicken. I liked the taco itself. It was different and went well with the meat and veggies. I believe it is Malaysian pancakes. I also had their pork belly banh mi on croissant. Perhaps not so much a fan of banh mi on a croissant, but would probably have liked it better on the typical bread. Their phở is also good. I like their meatballs and the broth was flavorful. I tried their sate sauce since everyone has been saying this is probably the best sate sauce besides phở sate. Honestly, I only got to have a little bit of it so I’m not too sure if I like it or not at the moment. I did want to try it before I buy a whole jar of it($ 8/jar). Definitely will have to try more of it next time!

4 star for the sandwiches 2 star for the tacos Had a pork belly croissant and chicken sub. I recommend going with the bread over the croissant. The bread is not super hard like most viet sandwiches, but adds a needed texture that soft croissants don’t provide. We added an egg to each of our sandwiches– maybe you should ask for 2 per a sandwich, lol… can we bring your own eggs for them to cook? hahah(they ran out on the people right after us… plus, it’s a dollar an egg!) We tried the musubi, pork, and chicken tacos. Let me start off by saying I never really like asian fusion tacos… they sound good on paper, but I am just never satisfied with how it all goes together. So maybe you shouldn’t use my review to guide you on the tacos… but my opinion still hasn’t changed after today’s experience. I’m also not a fan of the taco wrap they use. If I were to choose, I’d say the chicken was the best. Musubi was alright and I didn’t care for the pork belly at all. There’s quite a bit of a line here, but it moves really fast. The lady taking the order was really cool, and very helpful in explaining our options. **Update** Came here and tried the half smoke bc I saw my friend post it and she’s not better than me! I liked it. There was a lot going on though, so it might not be for you… Also, the bread gets super soggy. You’re better off eating it right as they give it to you, lol. By the time I found a place to sit(it was cold outside), I ended up using a fork and knife to make things easier. I still think that the sandwiches are the best way to go.

I tried Phở Wheels at Truckeroo last season, and it was a-okay. The spam musubi tacos were the special served, and it was alright. The pork belly tacos were okay as well. I can’t really put my finger on it, but it wasn’t as satisfying as I thought it would be. They couldn’t offer their drinks like iced coffee due to Truckeroo rules, so I was seriously bummed. I’ll try Phở Wheels again, whenever I happen to run into them in Annandale or if I’m ever around the DC area. I shall update when I get a chance.

Three and a quarter stars. Service is polite and efficient. Unfortunately I was more impressed by their graphic art than their namesake– poor quality eye round meat, one-dimensional broth. Portioning less generous than a dine-in spot, but appropriate plasticware for lunch on the go. Asian halfsmoke no longer available. Option of DIY tubs of hoisin and sriracha. Fresh scallions, jalapenos, and lime, plus onions, basil, and cilantro. Rice noodles surprisingly not clumpy. Saigon eggrolls were nicely crispy with a light dipping sauce, but the pork and shrimp filling was rather dense. Pork belly banh mi was good though! I regret not adding a fried egg, and I wish the ingredients had been layered in fans instead of filling the trench. Crusty baguette and tenderly rendered pork belly were on the money, even if the truffle aioli almost made the protein too rich despite the supporting veg: dominant cucumbers, scant carrots and daikon, and lonely sprig of cilantro. Viet coffee tasted like it was made with vanilla flavored java brew, rendering it a little too cloyingly sweet for my preference even after the ice diluted it. Musubi tacos on special were good– cubes of spam, robust Chinese sausage, pickled carrot, sushi rice, crumbled nori, wasabi sesame furikake with liberal mayo on a warm roti. Future hit list: Thai tea, Asian bevs, chicken croissant banh mi, mushroom tacos, meatball phở, hopefully some specials, and the interesting availability of chopped youtiao as a phở add-on.

I visited Phowheels in Annandale at the Kmart shopping center. Usually Phowheels and Snowcream Shavery show up together in front of Kmart, however this time it was closer to the left side of Kmart. My gf has been wanting to try this place so when they were in the Kmart shopping center we stopped by. Upon getting there around 6 P.M. there were two customers in front of us(they had already ordered). Before I say what I am going to say, I will preface by saying there were only 2 people working in the food truck so they were busy preparing the food. With that being said I stood in front of the truck without being acknowledged for probably 5 minutes. At the end of the day it’s a food truck however a quick«we will be with you shortly» would have been nice. My girlfriend and I decided to order the pork belly taco and after a 5 minute wait we were on our way home. The taco’s are fusion style and I was not a huge fan of it. I felt like the taco were very greasy(puddle of grease dripping off while eating it) and very sweet which I personally do not like. After my experience with the tacos I don’t think I will be trying the other items they have to offer. Fusion food is creative and I will give them credit for being innovative with the tacos, but unfortunately they are not my cup of tea.

I went late night last Friday to phowheels when it was parked in Clarendon with the snocreamshavery bus. It was just as good as the first time(consistency is a definite plus) AND there was NO line. Blasphemy. But I guess it was almost 1am. I got the pork belly taco again and it was delicious. I like that since the taco shell is the roti flatbread, it holds up really well and won’t rip as you take you first bite, or second. I liked it for lunch when I came last month, but it’s a solid late night snack as well if split one order with another person.

Ordered: mushroom-onion tofu, pork belly, and chicken tacos(had to try them all!) What to get: pork belly taco The tacos are 2 for $ 9, which is kind of pricey, but it definitely fills you up. My cousin, who usually visits them when they’re at Dupont, tried most of the dishes and told me to go straight for the tacos. They visited Reston Town Center today, so my friends and I visited during our lunch break. And danggg, the line was long that two of them had to bailed, but two of us stuck it out until the end… a long two-hour lunch break, gg. If we had to do it again, I’ll pass. Tacos: interesting use of the roti canai, but definitely should be heated up more(granted, it was pretty chilly today). The sweet mayo concoction was an overkill. I’m not a fan of this kind of mayo garnish on things like this or even sushi. At this level, it severely just detracts away from the experience by drowning out the taste of the meat. The pork belly was indeed tasty. I would have liked it to be a little bit crispy. The pickled veggies(could be pickled more) served as a nice, light contrast against the heaviness of the meats/sauces/etc. Interesting experience, but I wouldn’t deem it a worthwhile 1h wait.
