STOP! Go to Simply Banh Mi if you want a quality Vietnamese sandwich. I’m from Los Angeles and have had my fair share of Banh Mi’s, and this has to be the worst. First off, they claimed to put Pâté on my sandwich-bi*#% where!!! The pork belly possibly could be good but I couldn’t tell because my sandwich was mostly bread and veggies. My sandwich was hella dry. I also had their chicken wings, which were decent until I bit into one that was too pink for my liking. I can’t speak on the rest of their menu items. Just avoid this place when you’re in the mood for a Banh Mi. Just travel a block down the road to Simply Banh Mi and you will thank me later

My Tuesday night takeout consisted of seafood air puffs, tofu poppers and a pork belly banh mi. I had wanted to order the five spice quail appetizer, one of their specialties, but unfortunately it was sold out. The pork belly was okay — good flavor but a little chewy and banh mi’s in my book in general are also just alright so not much different about this one. The tofu poppers though, and the sauce it came with, were delicious. Perfectly fried and soaked up the sauce nicely. The air chips were also very interesting — never had anything like them before. Overall a solid weeknight dinner, probably a great place for lunch if you’re close by.

I love Sprig and Sprout. The whole Bahn Mi Vietnamese food thing is new to me, which is surprising because I moved here from California. I can’t decide if I like the chicken salad or the bahn Mi better however you cannot go wrong with either. The only part I don’t understand is why the sandwich is significantly cheaper than the salad. Penalizing me for trying to be healthy. The salad comes with these bizarre air chips and duck sauce dressing. The chips taste like nothing but are surprisingly delicious. I like the dressing but sometimes find it a little oily. I normally opt for half and go with lots of siracha on top! Inside can be a little small during lunch but they are fast and carry out is an option! At dinner they offer a variety of happy hour specials and open up the upstairs. It’s never as busy as you would think for dinner but glover park is a little hidden!

Usually, if I want some vegan phở or vegan Vietnamese I think to myself: better trek to VA. Oh la la — what a joy to know that this is not necessary with the deiicious-ness that is Sprig and Sprout! I should’ve entrusted my Vietnamese dining sooner to the reviews from Natalie K and John B. Amazing portions and fast service for affordable prices in this area of DC, umm, why I haven’t been here sooner is surprising. My favorite part about this joint is hard to say. They have a super fast casual style eatery on the ground floor and a quiet full service with bar dining room on the second floor. Everything downstairs can be ordered upstairs, but if you want more choices and a more formal experience for dinner, go upstairs. The food is fabulous in both! I love the build your own phở, rice or vermicelli bowls with multiple options for tofu! I like their appetizers(tofu fries?) and spring rolls, but I really love their salads. Side or entrée portion for 3 simple but powerfully flavored Vietnamese salads– my favorite menu items! There is a traditional style with cabbage base, one with lotus base and one with pineapple. So good! I want more goi/salad! Oh and of course, they have banh mi sandwiches. Upstairs dining has banh mi tacos, curries and stir-fries. For those who cannot decide, they have some pre-made standard bowls of deliciousness, but it really is fun to build your own! Love this place in Glover Park– prob my fav place these days in this part of DC!

The rating is referring to the ambience of the place. Don’t know if the food is good. We walked in during Saturday dinner time. No customers in sight. The place smelled so bad, we did not even bother to order. Even our kids(age 15, 12, and 6) ask to leave. They usually love Vietnamese phở.

I eat here at least twice a week, mostly out of convenience. They serve relatively healthy(super salty, go easy on the fish sauce if you are sensitive to salt) food and they are open until 10pm, which is great when you’re coming home late from traveling or from a long day at work. I love that most dishes are very customizable to your liking. The food is delicious, but not always consistent, depending on who prepared it. Sometimes you get a lot of chicken in your soup, sometimes they forget to put any pickles on your vermicelli. No biggie, it’s still tasty, just not consistent. I usually order ahead of time for pickup on Seamless, which you would assume would be helpful to skip the often extraordinarily long line that is being held up by someone who has never heard of noodles or pork before… You still have to stand in line behind guests putting in their orders to pick up your pre-paid, pre-ordered food that sits and gets cold because despite the numerous people standing behind the counter, only one person deals with one customer at a time. I wish they would create a separate pick up line for in-house and takeout orders. It would just make sense. This is why I dock them one star, because the people behind the counter don’t really care when you get your food. Sometimes I order delivery through DoorDash, but why pay $ 6 more for your $ 12 dinner if you can pick it up yourself? I have my complaints, but I will keep coming here every week. Sadly, I need them more than they need me.

i love their Tacos. I got the pork belly and they are loaded with fresh crunchy Asian vegetables and cilantro. Mexican style tacos are okay, but they never have enough vegetables and most Mexican tortillas are too doughy and chewy for my taste. These tortillas are light and flavorful, not chewy at all and yet they don’t fall apart. There is lots of meat and lime. I’d prefer these Asian tacos over Mexican any day. Yummy and healthy. The people are great and very attentive. The atmosphere is a little bit cold, but that seems to be the trend. I want to go back and try the phở.

I’ve always driven passed it on Wisconsin, but being sick the other day, I finally stopped by for some Phở. The build your own style Phở came out fairly quickly. The bowl is a huge serving. I think it could actually be a serving for two. They were generous with the meat. The Phở was good, but I probably won’t be coming for any cravings. It could be my taste was changed from being sick, but my brother who accompanied me said the same.

This is definitely the best phở in DC proper. Their broth is flavorful, complex and satisfying and the meat a great texture and flavor. The deli combo bahn mi is well balanced and tasty and the seafood air chips that come on the side are an experience of their own. They have a crispy airy texture with a satisfyingly salty taste. They are amazing! I always get extra to bring home for lunch the next day and try and get extra broth to freeze so I can have some even when I can’t make it to the restaurant. The staff is always extremely friendly and helpful. Dine in or take out, if you want phở and can’t make it to Virginia or Rockville, Sprig and Sprout is the place to go.

To be quite honest, I love this place so much, I hardly know where to begin! I guess I’ll start by saying that owners/chefs Jen and Mark could not be nicer. Their staff is also amazing. I know when I walk in, I’m going to be greeted with a smile and even if it’s been a while since my last visit, Jen will greet me by name. For some reason, it took me almost a year to check this place out after it opened but once I did, I was hooked. Since moving out of the neighborhood, I’ve also ordered delivery from here several times using both Caviar and Door Dash. I recommend using Door Dash as their service tends to be more consistent and they have excellent customer service. My go to is always phở with chicken and mushrooms; add plenty of bean sprouts, jalapeño slices, basil, and a few wedges of lime and I’m in business. Other favorites include the chicken goi salad, lotus shoot salad, shrimp summer rolls, and thrice fried chicken wings. I’ve tried phở at other places in and around DC but this remains my hands down favorite. I’ve attended several supper club events and WOW, are they amazing! The company is always good, Jen is a wonderful hostess and the food cannot be beat. I love that I have the opportunity to try new things each time, and get so excited when dishes from supper club are added to the regular menu(like the lotus shoot salad YUM!) When I’m there alone, I usually sit downstairs, a space that’s simple and functional without being boring. I particularly love the stylized posters detailing how to put together perfect phở, vermicelli and bahn mi sandwiches. The upstairs space with its bar and great happy hour items is a warm and inviting space that I have enjoyed both during dinners with friends and for supper clubs. TL;DR: this place is awesome, the owners and staff are lovely and the food is incredible.

The only complaint I have about this place is that the bathroom faucet in the upstairs bar area is possessed by seven devils and might splash water on your pants. Other than that, it’s above-board on every key point for me. FOOD — I’ve tried just about everything on the menu and have not once been disappointed. Oddly enough, I’ve never tried their banh mi, but I just might take care of that this weekend. I usually get the lemongrass chicken with any of the entrees I order, and it is always juicy and flavorful. The phở is always perfectly seasoned and delicious. The fried rice is huge and filling, and always seems to have the right ratio of ingredients. I’ve recently started getting it with crispy chicken and it is delicious! The stir fry is fantastic, and as an extra bonus get it «bird’s nest» style with the crispy noodles. Game changer. The curry is perfect on a cold day, as well as, obviously, the phở. The appetizers are fantastic as well… I always find myself getting more than one when I’m very hungry. The peanut sauce that goes with the shrimp summer rolls is ridiculously delicious. SERVICE — I have always had stellar service here, to the point that this place has started to feel like my Cheers. 20 bonus Unilocal points if you get the reference. I usually sit upstairs at the bar area, and the bartenders have always been knowledgeable and sociable. The owners themselves have always been sociable to the patrons, from what I can see. All in all, I love this place. Odds are if you go there any time between Thursday through Sunday, you just might see me there.

Sprig and Sprout not only has delicious Vietnamese food, but it also has speedy service and reasonable prices. For $ 10, you can get an entire well portioned bowl of phở. After ordering, it didn’t take them more than several minutes to get my order ready. Once you get your phở, you can then customize it yourself by adding additional items like sprouts. Bottom line, if you want fast, cheap, and good food, this is your place!

This was my first banh mi experience, and I couldn’t have asked for a better one! My sis and I got the pork belly sandwich to share(we asked for the pork belly to be prepared extra crispy). The meat was very tasty, and I loved the pickled veggies. Such a simple sandwich but it is packed with so much flavor. I also really like the seafood air crisps that came on the side, a nice change up from fries or potato chips. I noticed that there is a full service section on the second level, would be amazing to hang out here to eat a sandwich and drink some beers!

I’m way overdue in giving this place a postive review. I’ve been a regular since it opened. I pretty much love everything about this place. The food is excellent(and the have great portion sizes) and the staff is friendly and professional. I would love to see them open in more locations. BTW — My favorite dish is the pork belly banh mi.

Sprig & Sprout is a Vietnamese-American restaurant that is located a couple of doors down from Whole Foods on Wisconsin. They offer items on their menu, such as starters(crab and shrimp eggrolls, summer rolls, tofu fries, etc.), phở bowls, banh mi sandwiches, rice bowls, vermicelli, beer/cocktails, brunch options, as well as catering services. I am a huge fan of their banh mi sandwiches(they offer a variety of choices, such as deli combo, marinated pork belly, lemongrass beef, lemongrass chicken, and a vegetarian tofu medley) — I always go for the marinated pork belly, which has this savory/sweet marinade and grilled in a way where it results in this great charcoal/grilled taste to them — meaty, a little fatty, but oh-so-flavorful! This all comes jam-packed in a crispy, but soft baguette, filled with fresh & crunchy pickled carrots, daikon, sliced onions, jalapeño slices, and cucumbers(I opt out of the cilantro). If you are super hungry, you can request an additional serving of the meat(which I highly recommend!). The sandwiches come with a small plastic bag of seafood air chips — kind of like saewooggang(Korean shrimp chips) — crispy, airy, and a nice complement to the sandwiches. Many people were dining in or doing carry-out — they also have an online ordering system with GrubHub, so your food will be ready at the time it states. Yum! +marinated pork belly banh mi: D +seafood air chips: D +friendly staff: D +extremely limited metered-parking on Wisconsin

This is a review for the banh mi’s. Its quite interesting how the majority of the reviews speak highly of the banh mi sandwiches here. I order the super lemongrass beef with everything. What is interesting is that they put hoison sauce in the sandwich, which is typically not used a regular banh mi. I also noticed they don’t use the traditional Vietnamese mayo used pretty much anywhere else. Take the fact that the sandwich is also priced higher than your usual Vietnamese deli at $ 5.50 or $ 6.50 since it wasn’t their regular banh mi. The beef was a bit dry, lacked the lemongrass flavor you would find elsewhere, and the toppings such as the daikon and pickled carrots simply lacked. Needless to say, it was a disappointing experience. From the experience of the banh mi, I probably won’t come back to try the phở. If you’re looking for a banh mi in the area, Simply Banh Mi is a much better option.

This restaurant is a bright, clean, largely self service restaurant with Vietnamese offerings. This is not your typical Phở restaurant. It is run by a young American guy and his Vietnamese-American wife, so, thoughtfully, instructions on what the all important condiments bring to the Phở, rice bowl or sandwiches serve as wall art. The servings are generous and the Phở broth is very good. Extra condiments(limes, mint, sprouts, etc.) are available at the counter. Plenty of hoisin and hot sauce available. The downstairs area has stools against the walls and small tables but this is not a place most people linger. While I’ve not been upstairs, there is a more formal dining area with sit down service and some special dinners. The upstairs area is not open all the time. Soon, the upstairs dining area will also serve as a gallery for local artists. The service is very friendly. This is a very popular place in a neighborhood with lots of fast and sit down options, and quite a healthy one. I recommend it highly.

Super close to where I work so I decided to drop by for lunch. It’s a tiny shop that looks very clean and cozy. Kind of has a college atmosphere to it. I usually order their pork belly bahn mi, chicken/pork spring rolls, or vermicelli. Nothing mind-blowing, but good enough that I would come back to try more. An order of spring roll came with 2 thinly rolled spring rolls, and costed almost 5 bucks. I thought that was pretty expensive for such tiny portion! The bahn mi was around $ 7. Pretty reasonably priced. Have not tried their phở… only because I am picky and too scared to be disappointed. I had the food to go and when I came back to work, I delightedly found that there’s a small bag of complimentary chips(those fluffy, round asian chips). BONUS!

I love this phở spot in DC itself! I will speak for the veg options. This place is super vegan friendly. They have a completely vegan phở and most dishes(vermecelli bowl, rice bowl, appetizers and banhmi) have veggie options. The vegan proteins are tofu(two flavors) and a buddha medley(seitan mix). They recently added a new section that includes stews and curries and there is a vegan curry that sounds amazing. Definitely will go back to try that. There is a more casual area downstairs where you order at the counter then seat yourself. The upstairs is full service. Nice to have both options! I’ve tried the vegan phở here which is superb! Flavorful vegetable broth and lots of fresh veggies served. They also have tofu fries which is tofu cut into crinkle shapes and fried ! So creative & recommended ! The vegetable stir fry that I most recently tried was great too but the sauce was on the sweet side for my liking. Price wise it is basically DC prices. I’m sure you can get cheaper phở in Virginia but the phở here is about $ 9 if I remember correctly. This place is right in my neighborhood so I will definitely go back. Phở is the ultimate comfort food for me
