Portland Flats

This building is brand new and is part of the Monroe Street Market community located at the Brookland/​Catholic U. metro stop. Very convenient to the metro. Made up of 3 buildings: Brookland Works, Portland Flats and Cornerstone. The Cornerstone building is still under construction. This review is just for Portland Flats.
The Portland Flats building itself is beautiful. The lobby is breathtaking, the elevators gorgeous, the hallways very luxurious in brown and cream colored carpeting, great hallway lightings, moldings, etc. The interior of the apartments are equally beautiful: granite countertops in kitchen and bathrooms, great kitchen cabinets, stainless steel appliances, etc.
However, beauty is only skin deep and this building is downright «ugly» if you live here. First, it is entirely wood-​frame construction. And you have wood flooring which makes it so much worse. It will sound like a herd of elephants are above you even if your neighbors are normal. Second, for some reason the front doors will very loudly slam behind you if you don’t catch it and you will hear this repeatedly and including from your downstairs neighbors! Third, the building is turning out to be an expensive college dorm! Tons of Catholic U. students live here and they love to party! Loud voices in hallways and from within apartments that can be heard from other floors!!! That’s how thin the floors are!!!
I should have known this was too good to be true. Unless you are under 25 and don’t mind cheap construction, don’t move here.
