Serv Pro of Washington DC

Completely unethical company. They don’t quote accurately or send invoice, just start have collection company call threatening to put lien on your home.

Do not use this company. They have a very unethical approach to business including exaggerating the work that needs to be done, not telling you a cost till it is too late, and even after you tell them to stop the work because they are going beyond the problem they still try to charge you for services they did not provide.
There are plenty of good companies to use in DC, This is NOT one of them.
The company that I work for in Georgetown is right on the Canal. Last week we had a heavy rain that caused the pipes to back up and put down about ½ inch of water in a small portion of the office. I was told to have it cleaned up, Thinking this was a reputable company I gave ServPro a call. The Technicians came out the next day and arrived before I got in (Probably because they did not calling 30 minutes out like they were supposed to). Then workers were very nice to meet once I arrived and were already doing measurements of rooms and the floor.
After a while the technician called me over and began to tell me what all the needed to do, «drill small holes in the wall to allow air behind the drywall, vacuum the carpets and put out machines for 3 days to dry the area. I told him that sounded a bit much for the little damage that was suffered however he insisted it needed to be done. So i agreed. with in a minute his friend was already tearing out the base boards and knocking 1» holes every foot in half of the office.
About five, unbearable, minutes go by of them hammering they finally bring a contract up to me to sign. Two pages left in the contract I am told, oh by the way this will cost $ 1500!
Since I was not in the office at the time of the «flood» I want sure what all actually happened. after signing the contract I went and spoke to my boss who immediately stopped the work and told them to get out.
The next day I get an invoice by email saying we owe $ 700.** for services ranging from cleaning the carpet to moving items around the office and putting them back ($ 75.00 charge for that). I responded that I was unhappy with the services and disagreed with the invoice total. At this point I started receiving threatening emails from their accounts department stating that if we didn’t pay with in 15days they are sending the invoice to a collection service. I responded with a detailed email as to what I disagreed with on the invoice and never received a response. 2 days latter I received a mailed invoice stating pay of it goes to Claims.
Do not use this company. There are plenty of honest companies that don’t need to harass and lie to their customers to stay in business.

This industry is an interesting case of insurance companies covering outrageous — and I mean truly outrageous repair and restoration costs. Long story short (you can see my other reviews in this list for more back story), after our DC row home experienced smoke damage from a power surge, we were in need of a company to do some cleaning and restorative work so that our house (biggest concerns: upholstered furniture) did not retain the smell. Since the power surge was the fault of a DC agency that was doing work outside, they (thankfully) footed all the bills. We were told by the agency’s insurance representative to go with the company Serv Pro for the cleaning needs. It was easy enough to schedule the appointment, and we never considered asking about the price, as they were only cleaning 2 of our 3 floors and figured it would be comparable to house-​cleaners’ charges.
The cleaning, we were told, would take approximately a full day. We were told to leave everything as it was on the day of the accident so that everything could be restored to its original state. That included small things like books on the bookshelves, photo frames, lamps, vases, etc.
When we got home after the cleaners had left, we were impressed at first — and then we started to look closer. Now, they had a full day to clean 2 floors of our home (the basement, which is a full studio apartment, and our first floor, which includes a living room, dining room, hallway, and kitchen… not a huge amount of space). The carpets were cleaned — but appeared to have only been vacuumed, not steam cleaned or anything (there were still marks on the basement carpet that a steam cleaning could have removed). There was dust in MANY areas — the sideboard in our dining room, for example, had not been touched for some reason. Photo frames still had layers of dust (it was so noticeable because we had to stay out of our house for 1.5 months until all electrical was fixed, and no cleaning had been done in those 5 – 6 weeks, so yes, dust was really quite noticeable).
In addition to that, things that were not damaged, and not a concern, were not cleaned but ORGANIZED. We have a utility closet that granted, was not the most organized closet in the world, but Lord knows how much time the crew spent rearranging the things in there. Also in our kitchen, items in drawers and cabinets had been completely rearranged (even my alphabetized spice drawer was completely redone!). These were things that clearly had no need of cleaning, let alone reorganizing, as they were completely unaffected from any smoke damage. It was just beyond bizarre that the crew would have spent obviously so much time rearranging little things but ignored actual cleaning needs. If they had so much time on their hands, they easily could have moved up to the top floor!
When the bill came (which again, insurance paid, but still) — my husband and I practically fell over. A normal house cleaning costs around $ 150…this, my friends, was a whopping $ 3,700 and change. I simply could not believe that a crew could charge SO MUCH for what appeared to be such minor work. It must be only insurance companies that keep Serv Pro in business.
