The staff was very friendly and helpfully explained all the options as you make your order. My husband and I got basically the same thing but with different sauces and that made a huge flavor difference. I think that’s awesome, you can easily get different flavors each time you come. I definitely recommend paying an extra dollar and getting two veggies. The ratio of noodles(or other base) to topping is much better this way.

As others have mentioned, this is basically an Asian chipotle. Vegetarians beware, the curries are not vegetarian/vegan. The red curry is pretty spicy and they give you fair warning. Wish there was an option to control the spiciness though because my eyes were close to tearing and I can usually handle the heat. The tofu and other toppings were alright, I just wasn’t a fan of my meal. I left wishing I had just gone to a proper Thai restaurant for lunch. My husband seemed to like this place more than me.

Friendly staff. Fast service. Inexpensive and delicious. Pretty spicy, even the«mild» ingredients, and I have a high tolerance for spicy food.

This Southeast Asian/Thai place was really excellent. I had their steak bowl with green beans and the green curry sauce and it was absolutely amazing. They also have side items such as garlic and hot sauce as well as Nuts. I just came back from Thailand and this place was really reminiscent of my trip there. It seems that because everything is made fresh that it has a better taste. The service was pretty good although they took forever to realize that I was just waiting for the bathroom to give me the code. They were very friendly however and were good about keeping the place clean. If you like chipotle/cava style ordering restaurants then you will like this place. I think their owned by chipotle and have a very similar vibe. Because this is in the city, parking can be an issue during peak hours. You may have to walk a block or two, which I think is worth the walk. I did not like that the bathrooms had a code on them because I didn’t understand why that was necessary. Overall I would definitely come back to this place for the delicious food.

Was visiting DC and wound up in the Georgetown area. I quickly looked for an inexpensive lunch spot and this place came up on Unilocal. We are familiar with Chipotle and this restaurant is just like an Asian Chipotle and we loved it. Some items were too spicy for some but overall we loved the food. We got a lot of food in our rice bowls and were very full when we left. The service was great and quick and the price was very affordable.

I have been going to this place for more than two years. I order from this place once a week or once in two weeks, I like their food but every time I order I get less than what I got last time. this time I got only less that five small pieces of chopped chicken. and half of curries what I got two years ago. they really need to serve more or reduce the price, … Adiós…

One of my favorite takeout spots in DC(with the option to dine in)! First, this particular location is conveniently situated near the Nike store in Georgetown, which is where I participate in both Nike Training Club and Nike Run Club. When I come to ShopHouse in Georgetown(often, once a week), I can always count on quick/friendly service and of course, a cheap/filling/tasty meal! If you like Chipotle and Asian/Indian food, you will love this place! The way I describe ShopHouse to people is by saying, «it’s Chipotle with an Asian/Indian twist!» You have an option of white rice, brown rice, chilled rice noodles, or a salad bowl; then, you top it off with your favorite protein, veggie(s), sauce, garnish and a sprinkle of any of the following: crushed peanuts, toasted rice, crispy garlic or Thai chilies. You can also always select from the house favorites if you’re not into making your own bowl or just indecisive! Last Tuesday(1÷5÷16), I ordered two rice bowls and the cashier, Kevin, kindly provided me with a voucher to «buy one get one free»(WOOTWOOT)!! After today’s Nike Training Club(or now yesterday, since I’m writing this review at 1 something in the morning, I sashayed my way to Shop House to redeem my 2 brown rice bowls(YASSS)!! As soon as I walked in, guess who I was greeted by? None other than, Kevin! Kevin immediately recognized me and went behind the counter to make my bowls. Since I was having 1 for dinner and the other for lunch the next day, I wanted to do 2 different takes on my brown rice bowls. I knew what I wanted for my 1st bowl, but asked Kevin for his opinion on the 2nd. He suggested tofu, which I have never tried and wasn’t considering trying tonight! He convinced me to try it by 1, saying how much he enjoyed it and 2, why he liked it(which was the flavor). I did end up trying the tofu, and the flavor was good, but the texture was not my cup of tea. Kevin did the same when I asked him about the sauces and even let me sample 1 of them. Per usual, my trip to ShopHouse was a success! The few things I would like to offer up are: if someone is ordering 2 veggies, don’t charge them an extra $ 1; especially, since they’re getting the same amount of veggies just 2 different types. Also, giving people the option to have their rice noodles warmed up would be a nice touch; I haven’t ordered it for that reason, and I know of others who have had it, who didn’t particularly like the rice noodle bowl for that reason. This last comment may just be me… the employees don’t have name tags, which I think would be beneficial since everyone I have encountered has a great attitude/customer service skills, and I’m sure others(like myself) would love to compliment a specific staff member(s) for those/other reasons! And lastly, I would like to thank the manager on duty, Josh, for allowing me to take pictures and then offering up his entire staff to take a group pic!

A rack full of Sriracha along the walls? Now you’re speaking my language! As Chipotle is to Mexican fast food and Cava is to Mediterranean fast food, ShopHouse is to Asian food! ShopHouse is owned by Chipotle and they have the same concept as Chipotle as well. I used to visit ShopHouse a lot when I worked in Georgetown. They have a few locations around the area. There are lot of choices you can put into your bowl and they also have seasonal veggie options. You pick your carb(rice, noodles or lettuce), you pick your protein(chicken, beef, lamb or tofu), and you pick your veggies, I usually get the green bean(seasonal) and they also have a seasonal kale. These can get spicy! You can pick a sauce and toppings(i get papaya) then top it all off with some sriracha for some extra spice! If youre not into that kind of stuff, steer clear! The staff there are really friendly and fast, so they will take your order with a smile and keep it moving! During the weekday lunch time, this place has a line out the door, so order ahead! Shophouse is fairly small and has limited seating, so if you’re lucky, you can grab a spot. For me, I just brought it back to work, which was fine. I like Shophouse over all. Give it a try!

Shophouse is a solid choice when you’re looking for something quick, reasonable and filling that isn’t a sandwich or a salad. The green sauce and the meatballs are a must try!

My mouth is on fire! … In a good way! I had the spicy noodle bowl and I love the combination of flavors! Shop House is set up like chipotle and the prices are about the same. Only thing I didn’t like is that the noodles on my bowl were cold and the rest of the food was warm. Overall really good fast casual restaurant in Georgetown.

Tough call. I’ve been twice now and neither time I liked my dish despite fresh and healthy ingredients. The concept is much like it’s predecessor Chipolte: 1. Base Layer: Rice(2 Types), Salad or Noodles 2. Protein Layer: Chicken, Beef, Lamb and Tofu 3. Vegetable: Loosely vegetables although some contain fish sauce as an ingredient 4. Spices: Cilantro, Ginger, etc. I am willing to explore new flavors, but I prefer to taste my food instead of feel my food(by way of spice). Since I eat vegetarian, the only option of a protein is tofu, which is fine, but the tofu is 2 flames(they use a 1 – 4 flame system to describe the heat or spice level). I wish there was an option like for quinoa as a protein at 0 flames. I’m a wimp, but I have a good heart and a desire to not be xenocentric. My first bowl tasted like burnt cardboard and ginger. My second bowl tasted like vinegar and peanuts. I just can’t seem to get the combinations correct. I loved how the soda cup had the explanation of the name«Shophouse.» Not to spoil it but a Shophouse in SouthEast Asian terms is the dwelling above the shop where the food(or I imagine any number of services are rendered) is prepared and sold.

Solid price point, quick service, great food, good overall lunch spot. I get the Shophouse bowl with the hot Thai red peppers at the end of the line at Shophouse. It had the perfect amount of vegetables, meat, rice, and sauce and comes in a good portion size. The meatballs are seriously insanely good. I end up having to ration The meatballs into several bites because they are seriously divine. Just a note, it is a Coke establishment like Chipotle. I call the Viet /Thai Chipotle because it’s literally owned by Chipotle. If you sign up for their mailing list they hook up a free bowl every few months and it’s awesome.

I and my food loving companion got a free meal to this place after the DC shorts movie festival. We went on a whim on a Tuesday night after work and we left happy and a fan of this place. As fast casual is making all the rounds in the food world here in the U.S. this place gets it done right. The bowl portions are great with out being the over flowing things some places can be. This place delivered a great mix of base, meats, veggies, toppings and sauce! I was happy to see that on a Tuesday night in Georgetown by 6 pm they were full and take outs were duble the seating in the place. My hats off to them. We will be back happily and soon!!!

No. Terrible. Don’t go… unless you want the crappy Chipotle equivalent of Asian Food… I’m not sure what this place is supposed to be honestly… you line up like fake fast food and order a bowl of something off of their limited menu, which includes a couple of scoops of stuff that an employee reads out of a book with pictures in a bowl and pay $ 7−10… so that you can feel underwhelmed by your purchase. I ordered the vegetable tofu bowl thing. Scoop of rice, scoop of tofu mess, tiny scoop of vegetables, scoop of peanut sauce sludge. I’ve served better food at soup kitchens, presentation, quality and everything else that goes with it. Unlike soup kitchen food, ShopHouse food tastes like hot garbage, served no good purpose, and worst of all… it wasn’t free. Don’t waste your time going to this place when there are infinitely better places to eat around Georgetown… and the world.

An Asian-style DC-based Chipotle, ShopHouse recipes draw from Southeast Asian-inspired cuisines. Everything prepared is gluten, wheat, and dairy-free. You start with a base of jasmine rice, brown rice, chilled rice noodles, or salad. Then, you choose your protein. There’s grilled chicken satay, grilled steak laab, pork and chicken meatballs, or organic tofu. Next, add a vegetable(selections include kale, charred corn, summer squash and Thai basil, or green beans). Then, pick a sauce from tamarind vinaigrette, spicy red curry, green curry, or peanut sauce. Finish up with garnishes of green papaya slaw, pickled veggies, or herb salad, and top it off with toasted rice, crispy garlic, crushed peanuts, or Thai chilies. They also have some ShopHouse favorites so you don’t have to create your own. I personally like the ShopHouse Bowl which consists of jasmine rice, pork and chicken meatballs, charred corn, green curry, green papaya slaw, herb salad, and crispy garlic. Love the meatballs and the mix of veggies and garnishes. The green curry sauce tops it off just right! Prices range around the $ 7 mark. Just like Chipotle, it’s got those satisfying, simple, quick, and affordable tags attached to its name. If you want Asian fusion that’s fast, cheap, and healthy, look no further than ShopHouse!

I was looking for some place to pick up a quick lunch near my office. Unilocal to the rescue, I find ShopHouse. Tasty! Quite tasty indeed. I ordered half brown rice/salad, half grilled chicken/meatballs, kale, spicy red curry, herb salad, pickled veggies, thai chiles. I’m not a big meat eater, but the meatballs looked tempting. They’re not my favorite flavor, but don’t go by my tastebuds when it comes to meatballs. Otherwise, the spicy red curry is flavorful, added with the spicy kale; welllllllllllllllllllll, it’s spicy. And good. When I spend another Saturday working in my office and I need lunch, I’ll definitely consider ShopHouse. As I’m still eating and typing, the kale is the rock star of this dish. Can I just get a big bowl of kale?!? Oh, and they greet you with a ton of hellos when you walk through the door. Friendly awesome staff. See you soon!

I took my parents here while they were in town. Their request? Asian flavors in a not too fancy restaurant. ShopHouse was the perfect stop for this. Right at the end of M St, ShopHouse is a great stop for a fast casual lunch after a day of exploring the waterfront. The ordering system is Chipotle-esque — pick your base, meat, veggie, sauce, garnish, and crunchy topping. I ordered half salad, half rice, with chicken, eggplant, green curry, papaya garnish, and crisp garlic. Absolutely delicious! I loved the way the curry brought everything together — and half salad was a good call because then I got more veggies. One warning: most of the items here, especially the veggies, have a kick to them! Even one spice level will leave a little spice in your mouth.

I found it and it does exist… fresh, quality fast food! ShopHouse Kitchen has always been a favorite in my book… and something to break away from the monotony when it comes to getting relatively healthy fast food. Serving food made with Non-GMO Ingredients is a plus too. The food-flavor profile of ShopHouse Kitchen bowls packs a serious punch and is really different from anything else in the fast-food chain circuit. Basically, it’s a blend of Southeast Asian flavors, spice and heat in a single bowl. Choose rice, noodles, or salad and add grilled meats, fiery curries, and an abundance of vegetables to create a dish that’s an explosion of flavors in your mouth both spicy, savory, sweet, and tart. MYFOOD Personally, I like the rice bowl combination of Jasmine Rice, with the Chicken/Pork Meatballs. Occasionally, I will add the Grilled Chicken as a combination item($ 1.00 extra). To complete the dish, I think the charred corn, red curry sauce, pickled veggies, kale and extra fried-garlic sets the bowl off proper. Talk about a craveable combination and party in the mouth!!? Yes, it is indeed. If only this location was closer. I would eat here everyday. LOL! THESERVICE The service at the Georgetown location is great, fast and friendly. The staff does a great job of walking you through the options as you build your meal and they give you plenty of warning as it pertains to «how spicy» you’re making your dish. They’re fairly generous with the portions too… unlike Chipolte… imho; definitely a plus in my book! OVERALL A solid 4 ½ stars! A ½ star deduction because they always seem to run out of the seasonal Kale every time I visit this place! If you haven’t already tried this dish or ShopHouse Kitchen in general, give it a shot! It is really good. You will not be disappointed. It’s certifiably«Hittin’ n Stickin!» in my book! TIP: Start with their mild flavor items first and slowly build to the spicier items… otherwise you might find yourself walking around with a ice-pack on your tongue! LOL

The Thailand/Vietnamese version of chipotle. You walk up to the bar and through the glass, tell the server what you want in your cardboard bowl. You can order a bowl off their menu, or create one of your own. Each bowl is about $ 7. 1) jasmin rice, brown rice, rice noodles, or salad? 2) protein: Organic tofu, grilled chicken satay, grilled steak laab(like jerky), or pork and chicken meatballs which were moist, delicious, and a good size . 3) veggies: green beans(spicy!), eggplant and basil, kale 4) sauce: red or green curry or a peanut sauce. 5) toppings: toasted garlic, toasted rice, crushed peanuts, Thai chiles(a little goes a long way). I asked for and enjoyed all of them. 6) garnishes: pickled daikon and veggie mix, fresh herbs cilantro and basil, and/or papaya slaw. I asked for all of the above. Prices are decent. Not bad! They have them in LA!

So… finally made my way out to a Shophouse. After my long trek to the end of Georgetown. The Asian fusion version of chipotle… Ambience is nice it’s a very modern take. I like it… doesn’t scream asian. The menu… accommodating just like chipotle. I ask for half salad and half noodles per another Unilocalers suggestion. Then for my protein half chicken satay and half tofu for variety. Veggie wise I wish I could have multiple veggies not just one. But hey I’m greedy give me topping options I want everything. Sauce wise I really wanted multiple sauces which probably would’ve clashed but I decided just go with the green curry. Toppings wise they had a few so I decided on both slaws an asian slaw and a papaya slaw. Peanuts and toasted rice. Probably wanted more but I didn’t want to be overly judged plus I wasn’t sure how this ordering worked. Food review: Salad/Noodle Bowl… Cabbage/lettuce? Crunchy fresh added a textural difference against the soft decently cooked rice noodles. Chicken satay has a nice char to it very flavorful. Tofu chewy… not crispy but still beans nicely seasoned with a kick although a bit on the soggy side. Both Slaws… Added a nice freshness to all the other flavors in the bowl. The green curry sauce was very flavorful and had a nice spicy kick. Overall…not bad pricey but not bad… but not something I would go out of my way for. If I was close by a Shophouse I wouldn’t mind stopping by. But for a franchise I like its fresh take. The Flavors are very good but everything is just decent.
