Only saw five people working in the store, two were in printing station and seem busy, other two were behind the customer service area and when I went to get checked out they were busy. One on her phone. I gave a gentle cough to which neither responded to, so I finally had to ask if someone would check me out. To which the cashier seem to have a problem with completing the transaction. I finally gave up on swiping my debit card and just used Apple Pay for the first time which was so much easier. I went to buy a desk and file cabinet but because of the untidiness of the store and lack of customer service, I only left with some pencils. I had more questions about scientific calculators but didn’t feel comfortable asking the same guy for more help. So disappointing.

I am extremely disappointed to report the awful customer service experience I had on the evening of April 6, 2015. My boyfriend and I often have need of Staples. I am a teacher and he is a business owner. We always need materials and supplies and sometimes need to fax/​scan important documents. We came to Staples at 3100 14^th Street NW, Washington, DC to have a document scanned to a client around 7PM. First of all, the scan/​copy area was completely filthy. There were papers and trash everywhere. There was also a line of people waiting to use the copy machine. Both people at the copy machine were calling out for someone to come assist them with problems with the copiers.
After waiting in line to speak with the woman at the copy/​print desk, we asked if scanning documents to email is done at the desk or at the copy machines. She did not greet us, but dryly replied that it is done at the desk. We told her that we were going to get the document from the car right outside and would be right back. We then went to retrieve the document from the car and returned to the desk. We waited in line again, and when we got to the front, she did not greet us or begin the process of scanning the document. She just stared at us. We asked if she would be able to scan the document, and she replied «I can scan it but I’m not gonna do it tonight», with no further explanation or apology. I asked further questions trying to understand why. She replied that she has other jobs to do for tomorrow so she would not scan it tonight. I continued to question as to why she would not have time to scan a one page document, almost an hour before closing. She just kept replying, «I’m not gonna do it.» I explained that the document was time-​sensitive and she just shrugged her shoulders!
I don’t know that I can even convey what an ugly response we received from her. What was more disturbing than her saying she was not going to scan the document was her tone and expression. She was rude, cold, and honestly seemed to enjoy telling us she was not going to scan the document. It seemed like she had decided she just wasn’t going to scan our document. The experience made me feel like I was interacting with someone who I’d had a quarrel with. Her energy and attitude were so ugly and mean, it made me not want to return to that Staples location at all, especially not to the copy/​print area. She never once offered an apology or any explanation beyond rudely telling us that she has other jobs to do. This woman’s behavior was nowhere near customer-​service appropriate or friendly. It left me with a nasty taste in my mouth and made me wonder how someone who is so rude and flippant of people could be working in customer service. I did ask her name. She told me her name was Hanna. Following this experience, I did then take the document to Fedex/Kinko’s where it was scanned and emailed immediately.
Worst ever.

The customer service I received at this Staples location last week was above and beyond what they needed to provide. I went in not expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised. I had bought 4 toner cartridges (black and 3 color) in the spring, used them to print 1 page over 5 or 6 printing jobs and all of sudden my printer was reading back in August that it was out of ink. I’m not sure if they dried up or I got duds, but I took the cartridges back to the store just to see what they would say. I no longer had my receipt, but they were able to find the purchase in their system since I paid with a credit card. They exchanged my cartridges for new ones free of charge. I have to say, I don’t go to brick and mortar stores very often, but I’ll be sure to patronize this one when I need computer supplies in the future.

Consistently horrible customer service and attitudes. But, there is a convenience factor with the copy/​print center. Suggestion: DIY projects because the person behind the counter will probably make you feel like they’re doing you a favor.

Highly suggest buying from elsewhere. In trying to buy a file cabinet set, the staff were lackadaisical and it was very hard to get any help. Then they screwed up the delivery, and neither the store (including the manager) nor their awful customer service dept. cared about it. I STRONGLY suggest going to Costco, a different store, or just ordering from Amazon

Anyone who has ever been to the Giant around the corner from this place knows how unpleasant this part of Columbia Heights can be. But compared to this Staples, time at the crowded incompetent horror of the chain grocery store nearby seems like time on a tropical island.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I don’t expect people who work retail to be experts in their areas — I once worked in the hardware department of a Meijer without having swung a hammer in my life — but I would like a little effort. Even if it’s a fake, untrained effort.
The «staff» here seems to have no idea about simple things like paper. I don’t need to hear Dwight Shrute lecture me on the forms of paper products in ancient Babylonia, but a nice definitive color match of a certificate I’m showing you might justify someone even being on a sales floor. The Staples on 19^th Street provided this basic service.
But this staff’s biggest retail crime is the group huddle — where four cashiers hang around one register and talk about their evening plans while the line stretches fifteen people deep at a random time in the early afternoon.
As I work from home in Mount Pleasant and my company’s preferred office supplier is Staples, I’m stuck with this location. But I’ll be darned if I try to make the best of their crappy customer service.

The worst customer experience ever! Employee Damoen made it his job to yell at everyone who was sitting in an office chair. He went up to each person, asked them if they were buying the chair and if they said no proceeded to scream at them to get up. When I actually was buying a chair he made sure to move at the slowest possible pace and gave me plenty of attitude and agressive behavior on the way to the register. He clumsily held the chair and probably damaged it. I complained to the manager of this store about the horrible customer experience and was completely ignored. When I turned around I saw Damoen spraying nasty smelling air freshener all over the place. Completely unprofessonial and sickening. Never go to this store. And if a Staples corporate member is reading this, do us all a favor and prevent this extremely rude salesman from tainting your corporate image by firing him. If this guy is not fired then you guys deserve to fail like office depot.

This staples had a good selection of office supplies and I was able to get some notebooks at a fair and reduced price. What I also liked about the store was that the cashier Delano was friendly and gave information on a sale that is happening during the summer.

I only use this Staples for their printing services, so I can’t speak to the other departments. BUT, the people that work in the printing area (especially the dude!) are so nice and professional… and never give me weird looks for coming back multiple times in one day for only slightly different copies. I love that I can order prints/​copies through the website, and they’re ready and waiting for me at this Staples location. In all my trips, I’ve had one order not be ready, and the guy was super apologetic and printed my copy for me on the spot. Great customer service!

The staff is incredibly nice and they are open convenient hours, which why I am giving it any stars at all. I’ll come here if I need office supplies and I can’t wait, but otherwise why would anyone pay retail prices for this stuff? You can get just about anything they sell much cheaper online.

Ugh, staples sucks. However, they have things I can’t get elsewhere. So I go back. Sales people are nice but not super knowledgeable. I did get a rainbow pack of sharpies for $ 5…You can never have too many sharpies.
The only thing that saves this Staples is that you can park in the target lot and not deal with the traffic and ridiculous parking sitch at the downtown location.

I was there Monday morning, to fax and only that!!! The gentleman around the fax machine was rude, Hadley spoke and when he did he mumbled. Fax was not working I was told by the recipient tat the faxes where coming in blank. I told the gentleman and he responded (well I don’t know!!) I paid and left ran across the street to Fed Ex.

I have had several really good experiences with this Staples, and a few standard ones in between.
The first good experience was my first year of law school when I found the best day planner ever.
The second was after my last final ever my third year of law school. Immediately after my last final, in fact. I went in to buy a new ink cartridge for my printer because my old was out, and I needed to print off my bar application. I remembered the cartridge number, and purchased accordingly.
In my sleep-​deprived haze, I went home and attempted to install this thing, and it was only after it was out of the box that I realized what I had done. Not only did I not buy the right cartridge number — I didn’t even buy a cartridge for my brand of printer. Yes, I bought an HP cartridge for a Cannon printer.
The next day, I went to return the cartridge. Normally, they do not accept cartridges for return if the box has been opened. However, because the clerk and the manager were both blown away by how far off the mark I was, they took pity on me, and allowed me to exchange it.
The third good experience was several days later when I was ready to copy my bar application in full. I set off to go to Kinkos, but then I remembered just how much I hate Kinkos, their insane prices, and the miserable vibe in Kinkos stores. I recalled that Staples had several copiers in their store when I was there just a few days earlier. Eureka!
The black & white copies at staples are $ 0.07 a page. The copiers are really easy to use — which is good because the bar application has all kinds of ridiculous page printing requirements. Staples has pens, staplers, three hole punches, and white out available to use, which I did. I copied the whole application and organized it within 40 minutes, printer malfunction– and bad juju-​free.
