Great happy hour with $ 5 apps and cheap beer, wine, and long islands until 8:30 pm. The manager is really friendly and our bartender was also awesome. They were attentive, non-pushy, and served us quickly. Cool low-key Asian décor, too. This is a great place for snacks, but it gets loud and clubby later at night.

Went here for drinks on a Friday night before it got too crowded. The bartender(a guy, forgot his name) was super friendly and made awesome drinks. The food, typical bar fare, was very yummy and hit the spot. The music was eclectic. I’d like to go back at a later hour to see how the atmosphere changes.

Cool Spot, but they don’t drop it like it’s hot, go figure ! The Sutra Lounge is one of them trendy spots in the Adams Morgan area so if you not bar hopping from HAPPYHOUR2PISSYDRUNKHOUR, you might not get the same excitement out the spot as the loud ass drunk mahfah would, ufiggadealme? However, i did like our VIP section, it was upstairs with plenty of space and they didn’t have to make 1,000 adjustments just to get you right & tight and properly acquainted. However, we only stayed for a few hours so I can’t speak on the overall vibe of the club however I heard the dance floor be on one some nights and then not on the others sooo in saying that its a spot i would stop by if I was trying to get the evening started… XoXo

Came through the other day with some friends and let me tell you something: I don’t dance. I never dance, but when I do, it’s at Sutra Lounge. Located in Adams Morgan, it’s the kind of spot that is a gem among many other establishments. It’s grown and classy, but not so high-class the regular person can’t enjoy a good time here. There is a main area with a bar and a big enough space to a dance if you feel the mood suits you. The people are friendly and the bartenders are great. Up above the main floor is a VIP section with comfortable seating if you feel you’re in a more relaxed mood. Up here is where the DJ plays the songs, and the night I went in he made everything mesh well together to keep the energy up without getting stale. Another plus is that sometimes the bartenders will mix up shots for the bar which is free, which is always a definite plus. However, don’t always rely on that as it depends on the bartender you have for the night. One of the biggest pro’s about the place is that it has a nice mix of people. Guests of all kinds of cultures come by and are there to have a good time too. Also when I went, it was a good-looking crowd. The downside? Probably the size of the place. Being in Adams Morgan, it’s not very expansive so don’t expect a full-blown club. It’s big enough for about a group of four or five to enjoy, but anything more and it might to be too small a place for everyone to get the just-right experience. However if you’re going through Adams Morgan exploring the scene and going from place to place, be sure to stop by Sutra Lounge! The best time to go is around 11 or 12 at night. It’s a quaint lounge that you shouldn’t be disappointed about after going.

Had a BLAST with my girlfriend! We got there about 1000 and the place was somewhat empty but picked up within a half hour and was crowded by 11. Drinks at the bar were reasonably priced and they have top shelf liquor there — they were strong and the bartender didn’t scrimp. Music was great(hip hop — old and new) and we danced the night away without being harassed. Everyone there was very respectful which is not always the case when you’re an attractive female ;).

I discovered Sutra Lounge late one afternoon while searching for a decent happy hour in Adams Morgan. All I have to say is their happy hour is not decent… it’s AMAZING! My favorite item on the drink menu is «ANYTHING…$ 6.00» Crazy! I ordered Grey Goose martinis which normally break the bank and ended up with a tab that looked more like that of someone who ordered a few Bud Lights. I also have to add that the bartender was exceptionally friendly and attentive. Granted there were only a few customers in there at 5:30PM but still, awesome service! If you like to drink and you like the idea of getting creative with the«ANYTHING…$ 6.00» option, check it out.

This place doesn’t have snooty people and if you want to really party and have a good time I would come here. Love the vibe. Good looking people and felt like I could loosen up!

I had reservations about my sister hosting her birthday party here since Sutra Lounge is located in Adams Morgan which can tend to be overrun with the 21 and under 21 with good fake ID set. But as other reviewers mentioned, Sutra Lounge is for the«grown and sexy». Side note: I have never used the term grown and sexy before… I don’t even really know what the term means… but this place is GROWNANDSEXY. I enjoyed the laid back vibe — everybody was grooving and having a good time. Even though it looked like most of the crowd knew each other, I didn’t feel unwelcome at all. The drinks were flowing and there was a good communal atmosphere that seems to be missing at most clubs I go to. I have to give props to the DJ — he plays a mean mix of hip hop, and reggae. My boyfriend loved his playlist so much that he exchanged numbers with the DJ. I mean. that’s what he told me… wait a second…

I’ve only checked out the lounge on Saturday nights when they play a cool mix of hip hop and reggae. The drinks are pricey, especially compared to all the bars in the area. In addition to the restaurant upstairs, they also have a restaurant right next door that’s more casual. The menu is a combination of Thai and Vietnamese. I was very excited to find banh mi. I recommend the restaurant next door, but not the lounge.

I didn’t see anyone doing the karma sutra at Sutra on a Friday night. I’m pretty sure the rain, sleet, and snow accumulation was a factor. Nevertheless it didn’t stop some buddies and I! The bouncer was actually cracking up when we decided to come-in. He said«Ya’ll are crazy to be out tonight!» After we bought a round of drinks the bartender gave us free shots for coming in. So lesson learned, don’t let the weather hold you down and visit Sutra for a free shot!

Too bad the snowy weather probably killed business that night but this pace has nice décor and friendly staff. Very pro military as we got free shots from the manager. Would def check this place out again.

**Saturday Night Review** Everyone has one of those epic nights with their girlfriends. Well, this was one of those nights. We had been all over the place and we decided to try out Sutra Lounge because it played hip hop. We roll in and start moving to the dancefloor. Music wasn’t too our liking so we headed to the bar. The bartender made some weak drinks and I told her, you gotta do better than that. Put some more goose in there. She had no problem. After that all my drinks were strong. The music started getting really good and we were feeling real good. We moved our way to the dancefloor. Good amount of people of all backgrounds, you definitely have to watch who may dance with you! Do the Adam’s Apple check because some people will fool the hell outta you. We had fun and we’ll probably go again

I’ve only been for drinks, but their menu did look enticing. Über-trendy atmosphere backed by a lit-up bar that was actually strobing like it was broken. The drinks were fantastic. They saved the experience, and my friend and I chatted with other laid-back patrons. Came time to pay, and there was a major mix-up… Hope it doesn’t happen again. I’d have to go back to give it the ultimately fair rating, but I honestly don’t think I’ll waste my time.

Full disclosure: I’ve only been on Fridays & Saturdays. One of my favorite things about Sutra is how accepting they are of their patrons. Meaning, you won’t have a bouncer look at your ID, then check to see if you have on proper footwear and then embarrass you w/the«keep it moving» line. Everybody is welcome. There are 2 levels, the top level is usually latin flavored, while the main level spins mostly hip hop/r&b. Demographics often vary here… usually young latinos hold down the top level(shout outs to all the mami’s teaching Bachata) while a more diverse crowd(in both age and race) maintains the fort downstairs. Here, you hardly find those newly turned 21 crowd, instead people are a bit more grown. The environment is encouraging enough such that you’ll want to dance, however a fair warning to all my peoples who love to get sauced and make a mockery of themselves… such behavior is frowned upon in this establishment. When it’s crowded and you’ve had a few drinks in the system, you’ll want to test the market and exhibit your plucky communication skills with the females, which to your surprise, you’ll find many of them are down to earth here and just want to cut a rug. Never pretentious, seldom vacant, mostly rockin.

As a long term AdMo resident, if I go out in the neighborhood I try to get away from the typical obnoxious college bar scene… so I escape to Sutra! Sutra Lounge(and adjoining Savour Restaurant) are great– Customer service is great, happy hour prices are great, and the food is great! Definitely more upscale, always good DJs and awesome staff!

Great happy hour food specials…$ 5 for the best mussels that I’ve had in a long time(tied with Mezza Luna). Nice atmosphere, nice staff, I’ll have to check it out late night to get a better feeling of the place. The menu seemed to be kind of all over the place, no real theme… but everything sounded good and lots of healthy options. I think it’s worth checking out.

My S.O. used to work at this place before it was taken over. That’s why we originally went in. Turns out the new owners are totally bad ass! This place was great! I love the interior of the place. It’s one of those places you can go for a few drinks or you can spend the night partying. The atmosphere is great for both! The drinks are pretty unique as well.(Try the variety of Mojito’s they have!) And seriously, the food… OMG! We had some Caribbean Teriyaki Steak… SOTENDER and delicious! I mean, I couldn’t get over how damn good this was! Their chef is BOMB! I mean, you just have to try it to believe it. I saw other plates going out and everything just looked soooooo GOOD! If I lived in Adams Morgan(or close to it.) I probably wouldn’t go anywhere else. I really dig this place. The staff is great, the ambiance is hip, and the quality & service of the food & drinks is impeccable! Definitely a great place to check out!

How do you get a bunch of Unilocal elite to give your business some good buzz? Serve them delicious drinks at an elite event — and then give them coupons for a free drink at your establishment. After the elite event at Stroga, a bunch of us checked out Sutra. The space was swanky and lounge-y. It seemed like a cool place to hang out. They also seem to have lots going on during the week. The drinks were delicious. The passion fruit mojito and the pomegranate mojito were fantastic. I could have sipped on them(OK, it was more like gulping) for hours. The manager was really great. Kept coming up to check on us. Our server was great, too. I’d definitely go back for more mojitos. Mmmm.

Ahmm. the place is O. K . Located in the Busy non-sober streets of Adams Morgan, suthra was filled with people dancing to smae old hip-hop music. The place was packed and was open till 2 am. It’s a small place with two floors, i am not sure what the first floor had, but i could see the DJ. he was called DJSNOW *giggles*.i would go here with a big group of friends, it is not a place to go as a couple or just by yourself. :) They had Indian goddess statues holding a lamp as a decoration and with a talented bartender, who was trying to amuse the crowd with his juggling and other bottle flipping skills. The place would look much better if they had some funky pink or blue seating’s with some golden prints and a better lighting. Sutra you need to change your mantra! :) –smriti

As the owners would say this is where the Adams Morgan upgrade starts. Sutra is a sexy and a bar for adults yet hold the great attraction for young party goers from Adams Morgan and U Street. Really enjoyed both Friday and Saturday. Great atmosphere and music flows really well on both on the main bar and the dance floor above . Hosts/Hostesses are great and the bartenders very attentive & diligent … definitely a must-go place in DC. and refreshing change in the Adams Morgan area.
