Taft Bridge Inn

Great location in a safe neighborhood. The home is older (early 1900’s) & filled with antiques. Hard wood floors with antique rugs. I thought this might be charming and a welcome change to the typical hotel, but this choice was an expensive mistake. Only one employee appears to work at this B&B. If you arrive after 7pm, they charge you. If you cancel less than a week (7-​days) there is a charge. I stayed in upstairs room 14 and it was clean. The AC was loud (older), but necessary with the July heat in DC. The shower water was cold (older plumbing?) and after several minutes peaked into a slightly warm temp (felt like a camping shower). The downstairs dining room breakfast was awkward and food was terrible. There is only one dining room table for guests; two of the other guests did not speak English (and had an intense conversation), so decided to sit alone (I was traveling alone) on the lumpy living room couch. The coffee had an old and scalded taste in a smaller glass craft style coffee pot. I requested a new pot of coffee and the employee seemed annoyed and defensive («I just made it 2 hours ago!») The omelet was undercooked cooked w/​out asking which items I preferred (she was cooking it for me exclusively) and arrived with runny interior egg ooze and dry toast. I honestly could not wait to leave. The entire experience felt very creepy. The cost was $ 230 and was a waste. Will never return.

Stumbled on this Bed & Breakfast while searching for a place online. GREAT location –centrally located in between Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan and it’s just North of downtown/​the Washington monument area. Dupont Circle was a happening little area. Lots going on, fun place to have dinner or drinks. Adams Morgan has a different vibe-​there are nightclubs and bars, and cute boutiques, and a ton of awesome ethic restaurants that way too. There’s also an area called U St and it’s got it’s own vibe-​cool live music venues and the famous Ben’s Chili Bowl! Yummm! The Inn’s in a beautiful residential neighborhood, by Embassy Row, amongst some gorgeous homes. The architecture in this area is to die for — from the brick row houses to the federal-​style columns in front of the Inn. There are tons of restaurants, shops, and bars all within walking distance every which way. You won’t need a car (although they do have parking) and the Metro (DC’s subway system) is a few blocks away. The Inn’s probably at least 100 years old, it’s very well kept, has lots of charm, antiques, unique art, tall ceilings, and one of a kind furnishings everywhere. There’s also a nice garden out front — a great place to sit with your morning coffee. My room had fresh flowers, probably from the garden, which was a nice touch. Oh, they serve breakfast and it’s so good. Homemade granola, knish, fresh fruit waffles, banana breads… everyday was something different. The rooms were very nice and quiet. I had room 15 on the second floor with a private bath. The staff were all helpful and super friendly. I met the owner who gave me lots of great recommendations on places to eat and exhibits around town. Definitely ask her for suggestions — she’s lived in DC for 20 some years. The rates are very reasonable considering the location, full breakfasts and personalized service. Oh, they also offer tea in the lounge which is a nice touch. Overall, it was lovely stay and I’ll definitely be back! :)

Great rate! Great people! HIGHLY recommend this to anyone. I had a 5-​day conference at the Washington Convention Center, and my wife and I were looking for something a little different from the standard hotel stay. The folks at Taft Bridge Inn provided just what we needed. I would take the #42 bus each morning and my wife would take the Metro Red Line to see the sites! This is a great way to experience a good feel for life in DC without paying an arm and a leg to stay in closer. And Jennifer, the manager, was simply phenomenal! The owner, Yoshi, is from Japan and apparently a world traveler. She has decorated the home very tastefully with a great blend of worldwide art.
We stayed in Room 19, which is on the top floor, has two twin beds, and shares a bathroom with another guest. Some may not like this setup, so you can pay a little more for a private bath and a queen bed. For us, it was a simple fix to push the beds together. And we had 2 bathrooms to choose from, both of which were usually unoccupied and ALWAYS clean!

Finding Marianne and her charming inn was a high-​point to my week! Due to a third party mix up, my reservation at a hotel near Dupont was canceled, leaving me hotel-​less at the last possible minute. My stars were aligned however, as a quick Google search led me to the Taft Bridge Inn, and they had *one* remaining room for the night!
This beautiful home is on a quiet street a short walk north of Dupont Circle. The interior decorating adds a funky touch; I loved the painted ceiling in my bedroom. The room was spacious with an enormous closet, multiple seating spaces, a fireplace, and a roomy bathroom. The only slight complaint was the bed was a little hard, but that is a minor quibble in an otherwise fantastic experience.
* Check-​in and check-​out were fast and efficient.
* Wireless internet was speedy and free
* Rates were reasonable, and below government per diems (yay!)
* Did not park there, but rates ($ 16) are substantially lower than other hotels in the area ($ 28 – 37)
I was unable to eat breakfast, due to my schedule, and was sad to miss it as it looked delicious. All in all, my short stay was the most relaxing part of my week, and I look forward to a future opportunity to return!

I’ve always been the outlier. A statistical anomaly. If there’s an easy way to do something, I’m likely to find the exact opposite. Even with the greatest of probabilities that I would never find a cute, affordable weekly rental in Dupont near Adams Morgan, I some how managed to come across Taft Bridge Inn.
During the low season (think August heat and humidity in DC), Taft Bridge occasionally rents out their cosy B&B rooms at a totally affordable weekly rate ($ 500-​$ 650).
My en suite bedroom was darling, complete with a mock fireplace and antique working desk. While the bed was not the most amazing thing I’ve ever slept on, it completely fit the bill for what I needed: a quiet, low key yet centrally located room to finish up the last of my contract in the District.
While some might be deterred by the uphill hike from Dupont Circle, I found it just the motivation I needed to work my little stems a bit between meetings. Even in the heat of summer, I wouldn’t say it’s more than a 20 minute walk up from the circle… for the lazy, you could take the metro stop at the Zoo and walk down hill instead. The distance between the two metro stops is about the same.
While I can’t vouch for the B&B breakfast — since this isn’t included in the weekly rate — I would happily recommend Taft Bridge Inn for folks who want a more residential accommodation as opposed to one of the many hotels located in the neighborhood.
