Although my visit was brief, kudos to a hotel bar that can tolerate the shenanigans of the party I was meeting up with. My plane was supposed to get in sooner; however, it was a bit delayed and by the time I met up with my party, several members were three sheets to the wind. There was still plenty of wine flowing for me to catch up, but in the short time I was there, wine was spilled, voices were raised and there was lots of movement of our party. The white wine was very good and was placed in standing silver wine buckets to keep it cold. There were only a few other people at the bar, besides our group, so the setting was quiet and intimate. The bar made no effort to rush us out despite the late hour or the loudness of our group. Fortunately, everyone was within walking distance, but it was a great spot for a night cap.

This spot reminds me of a quote: «The richest one percent of this country owns half our country’s wealth, five trillion dollars. One third of that comes from hard work, two thirds comes from inheritance, interest on interest accumulating to widows and idiot sons and what I do, stock and real estate speculation. It’s bullshit. You got ninety percent of the American public out there with little or no net worth. I create nothing. I own. We make the rules, pal. The news, war, peace, famine, upheaval, the price per paper clip. We pick that rabbit out of the hat while everybody sits out there wondering how the hell we did it. Now you’re not naïve enough to think we’re living in a democracy, are you buddy? It’s the free market. And you’re a part of it. You’ve got that killer instinct. Stick around pal, I’ve still got a lot to teach you.» This spot is where Gordon Gekko and Bud Fox drink $ 18 cocktails and talk business. The beautiful bar and reception area of the hotel it is in are just superfluous to the underlying importance of this spot.

The bar at the St. Regis is as good as it gets. The friendly, incredibly skilled bartenders make every evening enjoyable, and the atmosphere and décor are beautiful. It’s a great place to spend an evening.

Its not the Alain Ducasse influenced affair any longer. The refined and relaxed atmosphere has been replaced with cookie cutter. There’s a big TV screen at the bar, which really takes away from the whole place. The dessert menu which used to be one of the best barely registers at mediocre. Its fine, but now it feels like a hotel bar and tastes like one too. Food is nothing to write home about — the Fritto Misto could be from Macaroni Grill. Bring back the class! Please…

This review is for the St. Regis Afternoon Tea, which is highly recommended. It’s a tad expensive, esp. when you add in the really good glass of champagne. However, there was more food than we could eat and the service was excellent, which is the exception to the rule when having afternoon tea. I actually enjoyed having tea in the hotel’s bar. It was quiet and the staff set a very nice table in the corner for the four of us. We all had the full tea, plus the champagne; the savories and sweets came out on two vintage tiered glass stands. There were toasted tea sandwiches, nice little scones with lemon curd and clotted cream(but no jam, for some reason), and a number of pastries. There are two minuses: 1) The music was awful! It was the oddest music, sorta 70s detective show a la Streets of San Francisco, Cannon(betcha forgot about that one!), et. al., which gradually transitioned to Love Boat type disco. The other minus is that they only have one unflavored tea, Decaf English Breakfast, and it was in teabags. If you are going to serve Afternoon Tea you *must* have a variety of unflavored teas, including black, oolong, darjeeling, etc., together with the stinky teas. So, I’m not sure if I would do it again, but it’s worth trying.

Two visits in a row… Crab Romaine lettuce salad was delicious both days. Booking in advance for high tea which did not disappoint! Tastefully made dry martinis served by good bartender… All enjoyed in luxury hotel and dining setting

Everyday after sight seeing we would come relax in our favorite spot and have a delicious freshly crafted cocktail. The service is friendly, talkative and swift. We recommend the gin champagne cocktail and the Manhattan. To top this place off– it’s right down the road from the White House

I’ve waited for YEARS for DC to catch up to the craft cocktail trend, and no disrespect, there are still few places in DC that really take their craft cocktail seriously. Being from Houston, we have perfected the art of drinking, down to the exact science of ice. Surely, we didn’t invent these things, but it has definitely taken on a craze in the South. Staying the weekend at the St. Regis, we decided to stop in the bar side for a cocktail after a long day of walking, and touring. We ordered two old fashioned, and my husband loved it. I am not an old fashioned drinker, but this particular drink made me a believer. Everything was perfection. The fresh lemon tweel smelled lovely, and sitting next to the fireplace after the weather turning chilly was a perfect fall evening. Their wine list is also pretty extensive, along with a decent list of craft cocktails, whiskeys and additional libations. The only thing that wasn’t 5 star was the amount of time it took to get the drink. We watched the bartender take 20 minutes to explain EXACTLY how he was making OUR drinks to a gaggle of older women. The last time I checked I wasn’t paying $ 18 for him to teach a class on the art of making my Old Fashioned. Great atmosphere, great drink, so so bartender.

This is a great place to people watch. The cocktail list is a little limited, but the space is gorgeous and service is impeccable.

Classic bar in the heart of DC perfect for complex cocktails, light food and great conversation. There is certainly a French influence to the menu but their seasonal cocktails are some of the most unique selling points. Service can be spotty, but the chairs are incredibly comfortable and the tables spread out, so if you are going to relax after a long day with a libation of your choice, why rush?

The St. Regis bar offers a great launching point for a fun night in downtown DC. The bar itself is very much a lounge(very dim with deep comfy seats and limited bar seating). The drinks themselves aren’t especially memorable but the atmosphere is great. I’ve never had a problem getting a seat immediately.

Before I came here, I was expecting an old school hotel bar with a DC socialite scene. But this little bar is actually a nice mix of old fashion charm and trendiness. The ceiling is high and classically decorated. Yet something about the way everything is arranged and the light is lit that makes the bar somehow hip. We came here at about 8 pm on a Saturday night. Already pleasantly busy, the bar was a haven for nicely dressed couples. It was perfect for us since we also wanted a nice date night. We took a seat at a corner sofa, ordered some wine and cocktails, and cozied up with quiet conversations. Although I didn’t find the drinks spectacular, they were not bad either. We definitely had a good time. If you’re looking for a romantic spot where you can talk to your date and listen to each other, this bar could be it.

*3.5* I love people watching at this bar. I also adore the understated décor of this bar. However, I don’t understand the astronomical prices. Yes, St. Regis is a high end hotel, but charging $ 16 for an mediocre Old Fashioned? With Off the Record bar so close, I don’t know why anyone would come here unless they were dining at Adour. I will definitely have to check out the Mon special that everyone is raving about on the reviews.

We checked out the bar at St Regis before dinner at Adour, nice dark and subdued interior decoration. It was a small trendy little bar, packed with corporate looking people having drinks on a Friday night. I had a Bordeaux by the glass and my companion a dirty martini. The bartender was friendly, chatted with us about what to order at Adour and raved about Singapore Airlines!

The cocktails are fine, the service is woeful but the first-rate fries helped me(mostly) overlook it. Now there’s aloof service and then there’s service that’s so bad you can’t help but remark upon it. Sadly, things here at the St. Regis bar fall into the latter category. I requested an Americano and our server looked at me as if I’d spoken something utterly unintelligible, possibly in a foreign language. Huh? Nevertheless he did return with the appropriate drink so some sort of translation must’ve occurred in the 20 foot span between me and the bartender. Later, he asked us if we wanted another round but then ran away before we could tell him what we wanted. Especially sad for those of us hoping to try something different from what we’d ordered initially. When he arrived with our second round of libations, he didn’t take the empty glasses away when he the deposited new ones. And while I wouldn’t even expect that level of oversight at a decidedly more downmarket establishment, I was pretty stunned that this happened at the St. Regis. At this price point the expectation is that the experience will be stellar but on the night we met for drinks at the St. Regis it seemed as though maybe they’d put the bussers on serving duty for the first time. My Americano was decent but not nearly as good as Quill’s rendition which I cannot help but compare it to given the relative parity of the two establishments(both hotel bars, serving pricey drinks to a presumably discerning clientele about 0.3 miles from one another.) I have a high appreciation for hotel bars but the service here misses the mark. Everything else about the bar seems well-thought out, however. The interior is inviting and conducive to conversation, the cocktails are creative and the fries are pretty close to potato perfection. Sort the service out and I could become a fan!

Me: «Is that head cheese? I think its head cheese.» PIC: «I don’t know…(after some prodding…) Ill eat it.» The PIC took one for the team and tried the unidentified item on the 19 dollar cheese board and glass of wine Monday night special. He said it was«spicy». Ha. All the other items were more than delectable. From the mustard and salami, to the cheeses themselves – the board was an excellent dinner. Aside from the head cheese moment, I felt like a princess here. The room is shiny and rich, and the corner couch looks like it would be a comfy place to candoole and annoy your waiter with said candoolding. In addition to the 19 dollar special, we also had additional glasses of wine, and the chocolate mousse(nice, but not foodgasmic). If you have a free Monday night and want to look pretty and feel pretty in a opulent setting – go here, and forever eat cheese.
