Josephines was perfect, spoke to the VIP coordinator earlier that week and she had promised us 2 bottles of kettle one and one bottle of house champagne fro 550!!! Great deal in my opinion for 10 people, we got there and our guest didn’t want vodka so I asked her at the door if we could switch to something dark she easily accommodated us and gave us the same min for our table which was just above the dance floor looking over it. We arrived around 1130 and the club wasn’t packed but it was perfect for us to toast our champagne for the birthday girl and about 30⁄40 min it started filling up so we had our server bring out our bottles. GREATDJ he went from ratchet to 90s r&b mixed. We were on our feet all night, I will be revisiting Josephines

Is this placed closed?! This is my second time coming to this place while visiting DC and it was closed again. The voicemail says it open. How unprofessional! Im tired of ubering here for no reason!

Came here with friends for a birthday party and we had a table. The music was good for dancing. However, i thought the place was pretty trashy. Maybe it was just the people, I don’t know. Guess it’s «upscale» for DC…

I recently hosted a birthday party here, and bought a few tables. As part of the usual accoutrements(bottles of liquor of choice, and exclusive area to celebrate), my guests(50 in total) were to be granted access(w/o charge to them). My friends and family, being the upstanding loving people that they are, did not want me to be upset or find out that most of them were charged to get in, and a few were turned away at the door being told there was no list. All of this came out a few days later, and naturally I was PISSED! To add insult to injury, my sister(the sober one at the end of the night) went to claim the bottles that were paid for but not yet opened, and she was denied by the staff. It’s unfortunate that a relatively decent lounge would see fit to double charge it’s patrons for entry, and then look to double its already high profit on alcohol by taking back bottles(and presumably resold the next day). Not Cool. Never Again.

*Currently this establishment is closed for renovations.* I came here with about nine other girls for a bachelorette party. Having gone to New York City for College I was well aware of the whole club scene – these girls, not so much. DC and NYC are very different when it comes to Clubs, for example DC clubs girls can look completely messy and trashy and get in – NYC is all about style, class and money. If you look like trash you get sent to the curb. I do hope that they become stricter on their dress code here. I see most reviewers saying that they have to ease up on it, oh my gawd please don’t. If there is any more easing up on the dress code everyone will look like they came from a College house party. In fact, when I walked in I was amazed by how this place screamed FRAT party based on clothing. I was hoping for a classy dance party with cute drinks(especially for how expensive they are). I do agree with the other reviewers stating that the entire venue is small, hot and sticky; however, they really do try to make the best of it. The employees were constantly cleaning the bathrooms, wiping down the bar top and mopping up the floor(a lot of pukers, which made the whole place smell of bleach for a while(again FRAT party)). The main room in this venue is very pretty with purple, black, red, pink sparkly undertones mixed with a warm atmosphere – minus the go-go dancers(gross). Luckily for our entertainment, they were done when we got there so we got to see drunken hot messes attempt to dance/fall/slide/grind/throw-up all over them. The venue also has a pit and gold room. I would have to say the gold room was my favorite; however, it was SOFREAKING hot back there that we only would visit for a few minutes and leave. Please note that the stairs leading to this place could seriously be hazardous to all women wearing heels and maybe anyone in general who drank a lot. We were there for about five hours and I saw a handful of people fall down and even up the stairs. I don’t believe I would come here again. Hopefully it was a one and done experience that my friends can check off their lists so that I never have to attend again. Side note – If you’re an attractive woman who dresses accordingly drinks are thrown at you(not literally). The men are EXTREMELY generous and will just throw money at you, basically you can ask someone to buy you a drink. Also, if your feet hurt and you want to sit down, you’ll have to find someone nice enough to let you come to their table since they don’t have seating for non-table customers.

The bad reviews on here are because u expected a place with fancy bullshit. No this is not«The Park» or the Cheesecake Factory this is a night club ! If you wanna have a GREATTIME and not critique the bartenders because they’re serving 30 people and don’t talk to you about how your days going the. This is the place to go! I love the hip hop and r&b they have a great DJ, great place(it’s gorgeous) YESNOTASBIG as UltraBar but THATSWHY I LOVEIT. It’s not a sardine scene where ur smelling someone’s neck which I appreciate! Drinks are a good price and they play Gucci mane lmao that’s awesome to me. If you wanna have a fun wild good time this is the place! I love Josephine’s and appreciate how FUN they are.

I want to give Josephine’s another shot but it’s not worth it. The Venue is pretty cool, it’s small but well designed and the drinks are decently priced. A few things they need to work on is the dress code and the cover charge. Upon arrival i was told the cover was 20 $. I had mentioned I was on the guest list and that didn’t seem to make a difference. I reluctantly handed over the 20 $ and walked into a club of about 15 ppl. It took awhile for the place to get live. And even after there was a decent crowd the music was so off. My friend was not let in because of his shoes. After trying to compromise to the bouncer he said my friend would have to pay 65 $, as if that was a generous offer. We soon took our business elsewhere. Josephine’s could be a really great spot, the staff including the bartenders were nice and security as well but management needs to work out some kinks.

Cover doubles typically after midnight or if any of our club-loving local pro sports team players decide that a night out is the best prep for a game the next day. The venue is smallish, there is a side room that usually isn’t packed but the main dance floor and front of club are usually packed. It’s a solid club experience, drinks prices are DC. Just a quick heads up, I believe Saturday night is old head night or maybe that’s just when the cougars come out to play. Wouldn’t recommend VIP, it’s pretty small and not really roped off. This is also the first place I’ve seen somebody make it rain, dude had to have thrown at least a hundred ones but there wasn’t much of a riot which might be a measure of how classy the crowd is lol. The people nearby quietly grabbed what they could and a friend of mine got enough for cab fare. I usually have a solid night there I just don’t really recommend VIP.

Came here for my birthday and reserved a complimentary bday table from one of the promoters. I got to the front of the club and they said all of the tables were«sold out.» How ironic when throughout the night I saw plenty of tables that were open so basically they just tell people that to get you to come to their club but have no intention on giving you a free table. Terrible. When I tried to actually buy a table all of sudden tables were available. HA! There were some celebrities there the night I went and Josephine’s security were so rude. They cussed women out and threatened to throw them out when they were just standing there watching the celebrity. Nobody was causing any problems and were just trying to have a good time. It was unfortunate because I’m sure that celebrity lost fans due to the situation and many people won’t be returning to the club after that night. The Dj was good and the décor was decent. Overall, I wouldn’t suggest coming to this club especially for a special occasion. They don’t respect their customers at all.

Great place to to party with a classy crowd. Hell, the security even are dressed in Tuxedos. This place is awesome when they are full. If you dont have bottle service and it is a slower night, alot of the hype is just in those areas. But when there is a full crowd its a great place to dance, drink and have a good time.

I agree with the last Unilocaler, YES this is a small venue, BUT I honestly had a good time :). They offer valet parking in the front of the club which was moderately quick as they were PACKED(Sat. Night), which was $ 20. The admission was also $ 20. Drinks were priced as expected for a DC night club $ 13(Ciroc & Pineapple) -$ 15(Shot of Patron). The club itself was JAMMEDPACKED! The DJ played a mixture of today’s hip hop, and a mixture of the ’99-early 2000BANGERS which I definitely ROCKEDTO! Overall if you are looking to really PARTY this is definitely the place to go!

Small venue but an upscale, classy vibe. Friday night was awesome, great hip-hop from DJ Ratchet(LOL) that kept the people jammin’. Overall, men were attractive and tall(amen!) and not overly pushy. Before entering Josephine, I assumed it was one of those establishments were girls were«too pretty» to dance. However, after getting inside, I realized that was definitely not the case! The lower level(where most of the«VIP tables» are) is where all of the action goes on. If you don’t wanna run the risk of getting your sneakers stepped on or sweating your hair out, then I’d advise you to stay on the upper level. If you’re a pretty lady that enjoys drinking, you’ll love this spot. Men are EXTREMELY generous and will get you anything you ask for! Being that I’m not a drinker, I had to turn down many offers, but the amount of requests I got was crazy! P. S. — if your feet hurt and you want to sit down, you’ll have to find someone generous enough to let you come to their table — this is NOT a spot with free seating for the non-table buyers.

Drama at the door.. Cheers! My first visit here was on 6÷06÷2014. I stayed away because I had known it to be the new trendy, hipster spot and I wasn’t sure I wanted that experience. There was drama(not fussing/arguments, but confusion and unclear answers) at the door about guestlists and table reservations. Of course all went well once my friend had arrived who reserved the table. Our table was in the back and fit 3 people comfortably. It was near the entrance to the VIP floor(?) We had a great view of the floor and the pole where there was an incredible dancer. After dancing and a few drinks, her entertainment filled the rest of the night. This particular Friday night, the DJ played hip hop(a decent set) and our arrival shortly before 12am gave us clear reign of the club. It was almost empty. That was quite surprising for me. After a drink or two in, the club began to fill. Not sure how packed it got because I nestled in the comfort of our table space. We ended our night with our friend getting sick(drunk). The bouncers/security were very nice with assistance. I would return, though I may be spoiled by having a table with bottle service.

I love that this club was an amazing mix of a lounge and a night club. Some clubs the music is good every other song or whatever, the music here was ALWAYS on point and I went on a Friday night. As long as you RSVP before 5pm that day, admission is FREE! its a small nightclub but the atmosphere is great! I loved every second at this club!

Open Bar and Free before 11pm on guestlist. The DJs here can be a little selfish, as they play music for themselves, this alienating their fans/audience. They played some good Hip-hop & RnB, but towards the end they started playing very«undanceable» rap music that most likely they only liked! LOL Overall, the club has a nice look the mirrors on this pillars and walls, giving a very French/loungey atmosphere. I would say there are better looking clubs than this one in others parts of DC. The crowd here is mostly over 25s and African American, with mostly White bartenders and GoGo dancers, LOL Most drinks are over $ 10. The other floors of the club were closed, only the 1st floor was open the night I went(Friday), so that was bit of a bummer. Go here only if you can get in for free!

Bartenders: super efficient(and beautiful) Drinks: $ 8 and up, not bad Vibe/People: great, friendly, variation of college kids to YUPs DJ(in the none hip hop side): horrible, very seldom did the beats allow for couples to get into it, and the«fun» songs weren’t that fun DJ(hip hop side): dude should’ve been in main room Wouldn’t come back, sorry DJ

I came here last night for a friends birthday party. We got two tables in the back near the back bar because they were a little cheaper. I actually liked this because it was less crowded and we were right next to a bar and a few other tables in the area. This was really nice because when your feet were tired from the dance floor you could just chill in the back. One thing to note: they crank the AC in this place. It was a beautiful night last night… only 60 – 65 degrees. So when we were chilling at our table, we were freezing! bring a sweater to keep at your table if you get cold easily. All in all if you have a big group getting table service is worth it. The club is spacious and has clean bathrooms as well. They do charge a dollar for birthday shoutouts which is really inconvenient if you don’t have cash though.

Two Words: NOT. IMPRESSED. At least for the way this place is hyped, I was really disappointed. I was invited out by a friend for his best friends bday to join them at their table on a Saturday. It was easy to get in(literally I breezed it, it was eerily easy lol) and when I walked in I fell in love with the décor. Whoever is the design team behind this place gets a gold star in my book. Sadly that’s where the praise ends. First of all, I actually hated how it was divided up. It was painfully segregated, with the house/club(I can tolerate some of it but this was just bad mixes) on one side and the Urban/Hip Hop off of a side room on the left(that DJ was ok, he played a few questionable selections I might add). It seemed super tight in the urban room, so I tried to bounce back and forth between the rooms to keep myself entertained. The table that our friend had was bad seeing as it was right on the corner whee you turn into the urban room but also sits right off of the bathrooms(so i could smell some um… interesting odors at times) even thought he was told he was going to have a table in another location. The crowd was lame, in my opinion. If I hadn’t ran into my girl from undergrad and been there with my date(not to mention our bottles, heh) i’m positive I would have been miserable. Def wouldn’t have paid a cover to get in. Parking is hellish of course. If you’re into nice looking venues and tryin to be ‘fancy’ then this is def the place for you. P. S. even though I was already at a table with my guy, I had numerous dudes come up to me and ask for me to join their table, even one bachelor party that wanted to combine our parties. That was funny but kinda lame/desperate to me.

Small and intimate, love the mirrors/chandelier/lights. Find myself mostly in the main room. Sad that Mal moved back to Vegas, she was the best dancer in all of DC and RAN josephine’s. Seriously everyone should be in awe when they watch her dance. Love when great dejays pass through, it’s like chilling with your favorite dejay that you won’t get anywhere else. GLOW Thursdays! Drinks are standard DC prices. If you are complaining about the«drink prices» here or anywhere else and can’t afford to drink/tip accordingly, then stay home or go to your shitty dive bar. That is all.

Josephine was a decent place to spend an evening but nothing to write home to mom about. Getting in for free was no problem, a friend put me on the guest list and getting in free before 11 was no hassle. There was no line when I walked up and the guy at the door gave me no attitude or trouble when checking off my name. There was an open bar until 11, so I definitely got my sip on prior, the vodka and cranberries were a little bit too bright red for my taste but after about 6 the buzz snuck up on me as the night went on. Vodka and cranberries were 9 dollars after the open bar ended, actually a fair price in DC. Crowd was a bit of that too cute to dance type even though there weren’t many cuties in the house so dancing was to the minimum. Club looks awesome, nice dancing area and bar and bathroom area was cool as well but while it looks nice the party just never came alive. Music was generic hip hop you hear at almost any club in DC, definitely nothing mind blowing or original. Decent club, maybe worth a visit if you can get on the guest list but definitely nothing you need to break your neck to rush to.
