This is my first Unilocal review and I would give 0 stars if I could. I work on the hill so I chose this place primarily for convenience. It says on their website that they invite you to «relax and unwind.» I scheduled an 8AM appointment with Kay so that I could make it before work. At 8:30, she still had not arrived. I finally got a call after waiting for 35 minutes where Kay proceeded to tell me that she had to pay an extra 40 dollars to put her children in daycare and come in early just for MY haircut. I already felt terrible enough to have wasted an hour to come in early and wait for her so her placing the blame on me for scheduling an early appointment just caused additional frustration. Kay offered to still cut my hair and reschedule my appointment but unless she was going to give me a discount or give it to me free, there was pretty much no way I was going to let someone so irresponsible go near me with scissors.

I work on the Hill, so this place is great. My stylist was fantastic and fast. Will definitely be going back for my next haircut.

I went to Tides about 3 weeks ago for a haircut and highlights. It was my first time at the salon; I work on the Hill and was shopping around for a new salon — the convenience(and the prices) convinced me to try it out. And I’m so glad that I did. It’s a little bit of a strange place to walk into initially, at least for me. Granted, it was around 2pm on a Thursday, but I was the only client getting my hair attended to for the most part, and maybe two other gals were in the salon getting a mani or pedi. While disconcerting at first, I realized what I had been lacking from my previous stylist — individualized attention. Not for one second during my haircut and highlight with the owner, Vince, did I feel rushed or not his first priority in any way(and he’s a really funny, nice, interesting person, so his company was appreciated). The aesthetician even came over and sat with me to discuss my facial routine, and I left with a little goodie bag of samples! Yes, they have a full spa — facials, waxing, the works. Technically speaking, this is one of the greatest color jobs I’ve had. A very dark blond naturally, I obviously lighten my hair. I should go more frequently than I do, but c’est la vie. Point is, by the time I get to the salon chair, I’m past due. Like way past due. So, my usual treatment is a somewhat brash re-blonding, very obvious difference from the way I walked in, takes a few days to chill out kind of highlights. Vince’s magic resulted in the most natural look I’ve had in years. Don’t get me wrong… I’m blond. There are no roots. But it looks like I might have grown that hair myself! As for the cut, it’s good. My hair is crazy curly, so it always takes a stylist a few go’s to get it right. But it’s a solidly good cut. All in all, I look forward to this über convenient, incredibly friendly salon right here at the office. And even if it wasn’t at the office, I think I’d even travel to it. Very highly recommended.
