Everything Bolt(owner) makes is a winner! Great hard to find Brewery in the Industrial Park area of Washougal. Open only Thursday-Sunday and at certain hours of the day. You wouldn’t know it but this plain white building with a few directional sandwich boards leads you to one of the best Breweries in the Northwest. Their beer is really, REALLY good, and the people who own and work there are very nice. The cold industrial space has been made into a kind of lodge feel, wood throughout, a warm fireplace, 1TV, dart boards and profession corn hole tournaments are held in their warehouse space on some weekends. The Brewery uses different food trucks on alternating Friday and Saturdays during the winter months but come this summer that is going to increase. There is no kitchen but you can bring your own food if you wish or have pizza delivered on the days that they do not have a food truck on site. The day I was there they had a wood fired pizza truck and it was VERY good. Get this. they play LP’s!!! Now how cool is that? Yes. old LP’s, featuring early Elvis, Bob Dylan, James Gang, Frank Sinatra, Glen Campbell and Johnny Cash. I love this place.

I think this brewery was my favorite out of the nine or ten breweries we hit in a weekend. While on these tours it’s hard to try a bunch of different beers at one place when you have so many other breweries on the list to go to but at least you get the gist of it. Here I had a simply marvelous Amarillo Golden Ale! I love Amarillo hops in beer and haven’t had a beer lately that had any of these hops so immediately I knew that that selection would be my choice of beer for this place. The flavor of the beer was complex and simply delightful! The atmosphere is cheery and warm and the bartender was very friendly. An awesome stop made while on this tour and I will definitely seek out 54 – 40 again whenever I am in the area!

Love this place. They did a great job turning a warehouse space into a place with gemütlichkeit-complete with gas fireplace. The beer is really good. We enjoyed a collaboration with The Commons called ‘If it wort for those meddling kids’. Complex flavor, dark appearance. They also have darts. We will def be coming back.

The Brewery(part) owner is a multi-awarded Brewmaster — Bolt Minister. Need I say more. This place is definitely worth a try and you may find yourself coming back. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. The seasonal offerings of their brews are worth the trip. For those of you that don’t want to take the drive to the area and think you can have the same brews in Portland and surrounding area. Guess what? That brewery that you may be going to actually lost their award winning brewmaster. That would be the part owner and brewmaster of 54 – 40. So come on down. Make the drive. I can promise you two things: a very scenic route getting there and one of the best beers you ever had — any one of them or try a sampler. Come on and grab a cold one or two or three…

Love that they are family friendly. Love the feel. Was a little cold, but you’re in a warehouse style brewery… Keep your jacket on or stand next to the fireplace. Good beer with lots of options. We will definitely make this a regular beer stop and it’s not too far from the walking path so it’s a great stop when walking too! No food but bring your own or order a pizza for delivery! The Oatmeal Pale was delicious and my husband loved their IPA. Check them out and support!

So excited to have another brewery in town! Came to the grand opening– love, love, love the tasting room with the big open feel and lodge look. The big windows looking right into the brewery were great! Sat with strangers at one of the many large wood tables and made some new friends. Tried the Cider Riot and a fresh hop beer– very tasty! Don’t mind they don’t have food if they let us bring some in :-) It was pretty loud in there… but a few more Pendleton blankets or some quilts hanging in the tasting room would solve that. Can’t wait to see what’s brewing next!

Awesome! We went to the grand opening, the vibe was great. Lots of people from all over coming in and made some new friends. Beer was amazing, and brewing styles were hip. Tried the oatmeal pale ale and the dark wheat. Heard that the cider was fantastic. I would expect this place to continue to produce extra-ordinary beers and I’ll certainly be back. I hope the food trucks outside become a regular fixture. 54° 40′ or fight!

I really liked our experience here at their Grand Opening. Tried three of their beers and enjoyed each one. Was also given a brewery tour. Tasting Room area was very nice. Lots of old wood, galvanized metal, stone fireplace, wagon wheel-looking light fixtures. They don’t serve any food, their focus is beer. There is a food truck right outside their front door, and people were bringing it inside. Not sure if you can bring in food from anywhere. We had a great time, was given excellent service, and tasted some great beers. Welcome to Washougal 54°40′.
